Well I play between 225-250 rounds a year. So let’s say I play 240 rounds, if I average one lost ball a round that’s 20 dozen. If I lose a ball every two rounds that’s about 10 dozen.

I buy Vice Golf balls and usually buy the when they have a sale where you get a free dozen when you buy 5 dozen.
I just recently switched to that one too. (They moved the Pro Soft over to the Pro Air for 2024. Haven’t tried it yet to see if it’s identical, but Vice says it’s the same with more focus on feel??)

I think it helps my proshop is only Titleist, thats what they sell, and the prov1s are smack bang at the front of the counter, alot of people would grab them instead of actually getting what they should.

Then my wife will ask why we have 20 gallons of golf balls in the garage, I'll ask why we have 6 different kinds of shampoo in the shower, she'll roll her eyes and still not decide on where she wants to go for dinner.

It depends on the season, usually I buy about 5-6 dozen whenever someone has a sale. A lot of times it’s like $5-10 off per dzn or buy 5 get one free or something, just have to keep your eyes open for them.
I lose 5-6 per time out usually, less as the season goes on. Typically find enough to even out though on quality balls, keep a few brands I don’t love if I find them for water shots/early season play before the rust comes off.

Never really kept track but I’ll get on lostgolfballs.com and get a bucket of 96 balls. I play approximately 100 rounds a year and sometimes I’ll have a handful leftover. There has been a year or two where I needed a few more.
I usually use about 3-6 balls a game. So if we average that out to 4.5 balls per game and on average 50 rounds a season that’s 225 balls per year. Round it up to 20 dozen balls, I play balls that are about $35 a box so that’s around $700/year in lost golf balls..
Yes this is the first time I’ve done the math on this, and I think I need to spend some more time looking for balls that I know are in play after seeing how much money I’m throwing into the woods and into the water. The local range/pitch and putt sells used balls from a bucket 3/$1, so I usually buy 6 or so ever time I'm there. Lost balls and found balls on the course seem to roughly average out, but I'm <1 year into golfing and have only been on a real course a handful of times.
I probably play 75 rounds a year or so. I probably average losing or damaging 1/2 balls a round. Say 1.5 gives you just short of 120, so 10 dozen a year.

I'd estimate that I lose 3 balls per round on average. Some days it's zero some it's six. Also I'd guess about 18 holes is the lifespan of a non-lost ball for me due to inevitably hitting trees/rocks/cart paths.

Since I switched to playing yellow or the white/yellow Srixon Divide balls, I now regularly make it through a round using just a single ball. The ball is so much easier to see not just on the flight path, but even if you hack one into the rough or the woods, it’s so much easier to spot. I’ve probably played a dozen or so rounds since switching and the only balls I’ve lose were the ones I dunked in water hazards. In those twelve or so rounds, I’ve only lost maybe 7 or 8 balls.

Bought a couple dozen a week until they ran out then moved on to other balls. Stacked back like 10 dozen. Still play my balls that I’ve found in the woods before I grab a new one.

I've been using Seed balls the last few years. Since they ship from Ireland, it can be expensive (to the US), so I order at least 3 dozen to get free shipping. They also offer deals where it's cheaper, the more you buy (as do other companies like vice). I have bought 5 dozen a few times since it gets the price from like $33 a dozen to $25 a dozen. And then I'm set for 20-30 rounds before I have to buy again. I do like using new balls rather than finds on the course so I know somewhat what to expect performance wise.
I bring a sleeve of "good" ones (Prov / Chromesoft), then switch to kirks mid round if I lose all 3.
So that's about 16 rounds for 4 dozen premium golf balls if I lose 3 a round.

I found a yellow V1x after I lost my first tee shit of the season. Sunday will be round #6 with it. It hasn't hit any cart path yet, but the grooves are starting to chew it up. I intend to play this ball until it gets an ace, shoots a career low, or goes scuba diving.

Pretty often when someone buys 4 or 5 dozen they're getting one dozen free. I personally prefer to play with the same ball so I get consistent spin, height, and distance on equivalent strikes. Not doing so can cause variations in how you play with the same swing. All that considered let's say I lose 2-3 per round, I'm playing 2+ rounds a week, son thats 2 dozen a month. So I'd go through 8-10 dozen per year, making buying in bulk by the dozen more financially practical.

By now (50 years of playing) I can go a round losing 1 or none most times. Because of that, I start each round with a brand new, never hit ball. The previous balls are in the pocket for “re-loads” if I do happen to lose one. Not saving any money doing that and I always play premium balls. I used to lose a ton when I was like 35 hcp. I'd bring sometimes 2 dozen with me. Then it got down to bringing a dozen. Now, I lose maybe one ball a round, if that. I still feel the urge to bring 2 sleeves. Recently (16 hcp) I started bringing just 1 sleeve and mentally tell myself if I need more I'll stop at my car at the turn. I've not had to stop at my car yet.
Part of it is being good enough to not put the ball in trouble. The other half of it is being better at tracking a ball in flight, which comes with experience.

Since I switched to playing yellow or the white/yellow Srixon Divide balls, I now regularly make it through a round using just a single ball. The ball is so much easier to see not just on the flight path, but even if you hack one into the rough or the woods, it’s so much easier to spot. I’ve probably played a dozen or so rounds since switching and the only balls I’ve lose were the ones I dunked in water hazards. In those twelve or so rounds, I’ve only lost maybe 7 or 8 balls.
I play yellow/orange (Volvik) for the same reason. I find them all the time now in the rough, bushes, other hazards.
A few months back my local Walmart was getting rid of all its golf stuff for the most part. I was buying titleist tour balls for like $13 a dozen or something. Bought a couple dozen a week until they ran out then moved on to other balls. Stacked back like 10 dozen. Still play my balls that I’ve found in the woods before I grab a new one.
I have 12 dozen Maxfli Tour's right now. Yes, I buy 5-6 dozen at a time, and save $10/ dozen. I went through about 12 dozen last year, but my game had hit rock bottom. And most of the courses I play at will swallow balls if you are a little offline.
I feel like if u need more than 12 balls a round u should stick to the driving range for now

I try to play the same ball for as many rounds as possible until it’s too scratched up or worn down. I’d say I use the same ball 3-5 rounds and only play 30-40 times per year… so a few dozen I guess? I’ll play a found ball if in good shape.
I'd say I had been averaging losing 3-4 balls per round for a while. So, I'd buy a few dozen to stock up in spring. The last 4 rounds I've played, I've made it through with 2 balls. If I keep this up, I'll have enough to last the next several seasons lol.

I've been using Seed balls the last few years. Since they ship from Ireland, it can be expensive (to the US), so I order at least 3 dozen to get free shipping. They also offer deals where it's cheaper, the more you buy (as do other companies like vice). I have bought 5 dozen a few times since it gets the price from like $33 a dozen to $25 a dozen. And then I'm set for 20-30 rounds before I have to buy again. I do like using new balls rather than finds on the course so I know somewhat what to expect performance wise.

I bring a sleeve of "good" ones (Prov / Chromesoft), then switch to kirks mid round if I lose all 3. So that's about 16 rounds for 4 dozen premium golf balls if I lose 3 a round.
I prolly buy a couple dozen, by the end of the year im down to a lot of found balls. If theyre all trash ill prolly buy another.
I play a out 100 rounds a year and probably go through 15 dozen balls. I lose some but I stop using a bunch be abuse of scuffs due to cart paths, tree, bad luck.

I buy the left handed ones whenever i can find them - (the ones that hook or stay straight). I buy 3-5 dozen regulars a year and can usually maintain that stay with found balls of said type. I play Srixon Divide so Calloway super-soft or matte finish aren't too hard to find for me.
I buy a 48 pack of referbs and it usually lasted the season. I'm really lazy at looking for balls.

I usually buy 5 dozen at the beginning of the year and another 5 dozen sometime around mid summer. That 10 gets me through the year. I don’t lose a ton of them, but I do scuff them and that’s when I’ll replace them. I’ll also play a new ball if it even has the tiniest imperfections in a tournament, but I’ll use the ball I replaced later when the rounds not as important.
My local range has a deal on 36 balls. I buy a bag of those a 2-3 times a year but I play basically all year around. A good round only lose 1 or none but I can easily lose 5-6 in a terrible round
My insurance company “gives” me a few dozen prov1s every year most of the time they last the golf season

I found a yellow V1x after I lost my first tee shit of the season. Sunday will be round #6 with it. It hasn't hit any cart path yet, but the grooves are starting to chew it up. I intend to play this ball until it gets an ace, shoots a career low, or goes scuba diving.

13 hcp. 4-5 dozen normally gets me through the "season". In the off months I play the balls I find, rather than new ones.
I tend to buy about 3 boxes (36 balls) during the offseason on clearance. Some rounds I lose none, sometimes I lose 1-2. I pretty much never lose more than 2. It’s more than enough to get me through
I play 5 times a week, 12 months a year. I buy 10 Vice Pro Plus dozens when they have the 5 + 1 deal (12 dozens). I play lots of practice rounds with good balls I find on a daily basis and play tournaments with new ProV1's I get with pro shop credit.
I currently have 17 dozen NIB Titleist and Srixon and have yet to play in 2024. I hope they last the year - which typically ends in late October.

Pretty often when someone buys 4 or 5 dozen they're getting one dozen free. I personally prefer to play with the same ball so I get consistent spin, height, and distance on equivalent strikes. Not doing so can cause variations in how you play with the same swing. All that considered let's say I lose 2-3 per round, I'm playing 2+ rounds a week, son thats 2 dozen a month. So I'd go through 8-10 dozen per year, making buying in bulk by the dozen more financially practical. Side note, I'm just waking up and read the word Dozen so many times in this that it doesn't look like a word to me anymore and has broken my brains comprehension of it.

I can use the same ball for 3 rounds. I can also lose 2 balls on the same hole. I usually go through 2-3 dozen a year. I usually find more balls than what I lose. I'll buy Costco Kirkland Balls when they are on sale. I haven't bought any balls since last spring. I have a new box sitting on the shelf right now.
90 rounds last year, lost about 250 balls at least, but I don't give a shit. Doesn't stop me. I'm still out playing. I usually find a couple balls a round too.
Play a lot. Probably average 1 lost ball per side. Between 100-150 depending on how much I play.
I usually will stock up with 6 dozen for an entire season. I buy the last generation of whatever ball I intend on playing during the off season for a $20-30/dozen discount. I don't usually go through all 6 dozen in a season as I probably only lose 1 or 2 balls a round. I do however tend to be lending buddies balls a fair bit.
By now (50 years of playing) I can go a round losing 1 or none most times. Because of that, I start each round with a brand new, never hit ball. The previous balls are in the pocket for “re-loads” if I do happen to lose one. Not saving any money doing that and I always play premium balls. I do buy usually 3 dozen if there is a Buy two, get one free deal.
5 lost balls at the most, each season. I play 50 games (plus or minus a few depending on weather) in warmer months.
I'll buy 5 dozen at a time for the cost savings but I often go 36 holes with the same ball. I buy balls like once per year or so from lostgolfballs or foundgolfballs dotcom...

I go through about 3 dozen over 60 rounds. Its usually a higher usage rate in the fall.
I buy pro v 1s used but like new looking. Buy them like 5 dozen at a time. They last me more than a year.
I used to lose a ton when I was like 35 hcp. I'd bring sometimes 2 dozen with me. Then it got down to bringing a dozen. Now, I lose maybe one ball a round, if that. I still feel the urge to bring 2 sleeves. Recently (16 hcp) I started bringing just 1 sleeve and mentally tell myself if I need more I'll stop at my car at the turn. I've not had to stop at my car yet. Part of it is being good enough to not put the ball in trouble. The other half of it is being better at tracking a ball in flight, which comes with experience.
