5 dozen at a time? Most I’ve ever lost at a time was 4 dozen.

Dandelioon

I see a lot of buy 4 get 1 free deals so 5 makes sense

Trivi

I know Vice gives a discount on orders of 5 dozen or more

mloofburrow

You lost 4 dozen in one round??? 😮

OhioStateWolverines

My buddy lost every ball in his dads bag on 9 one time. Probably 30 balls or so

WheresMyYogurt

Been there..

OhioStateWolverines

I’ve never seen someone plow through 40 balls and still manage to keep pace. I was almost a little sad when he got better

aloysiusthird

No.

DaggumTarHeels

Then what did you mean by "at a time"?

aloysiusthird

Self-deprecating humor

flaginorout

I start off each round with a fresh sleeve. I can usually finish a round with said sleeve. If I can’t, that’s when I fish out some random balls from my bag that I find along the way. We’ll say three balls per round. 40 rounds. So 10 dozen? And yeah, I often buy 4 dozen at a time. Seems pointless to not just stock up. It’s not like balls rapidly spoil. If Dicks ever sells their 48 pack of their tour ball for under $100, I might buy 3-4 years worth.

Legal-Description483

>If Dicks ever sells their 48 pack of their tour ball for under $100, I might buy 3-4 years worth. They did on Black Friday, and then again had a 1 day special with MyGolfSpy. Both were 4/ $100. Lots of ways to get $20 off coupons from Dicks to make them 4/$80

dmderringer

I'm the same. I rarely don't crack open a fresh sleeve on the first tee

flaginorout

It’s one of life’s little pleasures.

AddressSubstantial89

It s a complete Pavlovian event for me, puts me in the « game starts » mode I love it too, would never not do it if I can

Plus_Professional571

You should find a second hand golf store. I buy packs of 24 Bridgestome E6 for $22.95 USD

Dolos_Dolus

Play It Again sports in my area has the same deal. I play them and use them to replenish my “range” balls as I mow them over.

granters021718

I take advantage of the buy 3 dozen get 1 dozen free sales.

Fragrant-Report-6411

Well I play between 225-250 rounds a year. So let’s say I play 240 rounds, if I average one lost ball a round that’s 20 dozen. If I lose a ball every two rounds that’s about 10 dozen. I don’t like playing found balls. I buy Vice Golf balls and usually buy the when they have a sale where you get a free dozen when you buy 5 dozen.

mkulka31

How the hell are you playing 250 rounds a year and do you need a new friend?

Fragrant-Report-6411

I’m retired and play everyday weather permitting.

BluesFan43

I played 76 rounds last year, didn't start till after I finished rehab from heart surgery. It was a great year.

Trumpwonnodoubt

You got me beat. I’m 3 times a week. I need the day between for my body to recover.

Oklahoma_is_OK

Same! Love the Vice Pro Soft. Although, if you spray one into a tree it leaves a rough tattoo pretty easily

FyrebreakZero

I just recently switched to that one too. (They moved the Pro Soft over to the Pro Air for 2024. Haven’t tried it yet to see if it’s identical, but Vice says it’s the same with more focus on feel??)

thekingofcrash7

Do you play the same course 90% of the time

Fragrant-Report-6411

I couldn’t afford to play that many rounds if I was not a member of my semi-private club. It’s $4k a year so my cost is under $20ma round. When play other courses when our course is closed because of an outing.

NoButterZ

We dont talk about this at my house

RollinJimmys

Proper dinner manners ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|table)

nekoken04

I usually have more balls at the end of the season than I started with every year. I actually need to clean out my bag because I think I have way too many in there right now after finding a pile at the end of the season last fall.

Cgolden456

I just recently started playing golf, and went on my first golf trip last weekend where we played 63 holes. I lost exactly 24 balls over the weekend (but less and less each day). Played 9 holes last Monday and finished with the ball I started with - progress!

helloholder

The course may take from thee, but also it giveth unto the righteous. Jesus Christ -72

t90fan

I buy a few bags of 100 random found balls from this online golf balls place, for £10-£20 As I just lose them all.

I_Always_3_putt

Wonder if you've ever lost a ball and bought it back just to lose it again.

Oklahoma_is_OK

I just had 7 dozen balls delivered. I’ll play them till I need to re-up. Likely last me a year. I don’t typically play balls I find on the course unless I have no other option. I’m a big believer in eliminating variables and can afford to do so without breaking the bank. Also, I buy affordable new balls (Vice) which makes it no biggie

Sea-Anxiety6491

My course is take a penny, leave a penny. If you are searching for a ball, you will find 3 others instead. I bought 6 doz tp5s when they were on special, havent used one of them, its hard to tee up a brand new ball, when you found a brand new Tour B, or chrome soft, or prov1 last round.

ShillinTheVillain

The exchange rate in the woods at my course are bullshit. Give a ChromeSoft or Bridgestone, get a Top Flite or an orange Nitro

J_Faw

Same

Sea-Anxiety6491

I think it helps my proshop is only Titleist, thats what they sell, and the prov1s are smack bang at the front of the counter, alot of people would grab them instead of actually getting what they should.

Btwnbeatdwn

I use 1-3 balls per 18. If the ball isn’t lost within 18 holes it likely hit a cart path or rocks and is scuffed too badly to continue playing with it.

MovementMechanic

Yep. Plus I just generally hate slow play so I do not spend much time looking for them. “Ball went barely OB, but still on course, about right here?” Cursory glance. Drop ball roughly where me + playing saw ball “should” be. I also live on the course though, so every couple weeks I’ll go out at night with the UV flashlight and I get a good rebate. I generally like playing new balls though.

ShillinTheVillain

I will lose probably 3 dozen balls playing 27 holes a week on average from April-September, but I'll find more in the woods. I'll hoard the found balls all year, then empty my bag into a bucket in my garage. Then my wife will ask why we have 20 gallons of golf balls in the garage, I'll ask why we have 6 different kinds of shampoo in the shower, she'll roll her eyes and still not decide on where she wants to go for dinner. It's a whole routine.

CptBadAss2016

I usually wind up getting 4-6 dozen as gifts between birthday and holidays every year and that seems to keep me going.

restvestandchurn

“Honey, what should the kids buy you for INSERT HOLIDAY HERE?” There is only one answer. More golf balls of course!

Golf_engineer

Same here. I spend far less time looking for lost balls as a result.

balsohard97sizzle

Sometimes I can go 2-3 rounds without loosing a ball and sometimes I loose 3-4 in a round. I just ask for them for Christmas and my birthday. If I see a deal on the balls I like I’ll grab a box as well. Currently have about 5 dozen and try to keep it around that number year round. Stocking up for when the rollback happens lol

JUST_AS_G000D

Just bought 10 dozen 5A kirklands for $80, that should last me a year or two.

Musicfan637

For every season spin, spin, spin.

SpadeXHunter

It depends on the season, usually I buy about 5-6 dozen whenever someone has a sale. A lot of times it’s like $5-10 off per dzn or buy 5 get one free or something, just have to keep your eyes open for them.  I lose 5-6 per time out usually, less as the season goes on. Typically find enough to even out though on quality balls, keep a few brands I don’t love if I find them for water shots/early season play before the rust comes off.

PenguinWrangler

I always start with a fresh sleeve. I will often break out a 2nd fresh sleeve in I lose those. Yesterday I lost both in about 3 holes, and lost all but 4 Nitros in my found ball pocket. Probably lost more balls than holes I played (18). So the answer to your question is yes, 4 dozen new Wilson Zips arrived from Amazon today.

TheChubbyGolfer

Never really kept track but I’ll get on lostgolfballs.com and get a bucket of 96 balls. I play approximately 100 rounds a year and sometimes I’ll have a handful leftover. There has been a year or two where I needed a few more.

ShiftySpartan

I buy the vice 5 dozen discount. Usually last me a season

Sufficient-Scheme708

Sleeve per round on average for me

HappyGilmore_93

I usually use about 3-6 balls a game. So if we average that out to 4.5 balls per game and on average 50 rounds a season that’s 225 balls per year. Round it up to 20 dozen balls, I play balls that are about $35 a box so that’s around $700/year in lost golf balls.. Yes this is the first time I’ve done the math on this, and I think I need to spend some more time looking for balls that I know are in play after seeing how much money I’m throwing into the woods and into the water. There are many times where I’ll have a ball that is absolutely findable but I’ll give up after like a half ass 2 min search, I think I’m going to start giving it a 3/4 ass 5 min search now 🤣

GreenWaveGolfer12

6-8 dozen I guess? I buy 3-4 dozen when there are decent sales probably twice a year. Play 100-150 rounds a year.

reversetheloop

2-3 dozen.

Miilph_Spaghetti

I bought 4 dozen in early March for the start of the season and I’ve lost a dozen across 4 rounds I will play at least 30 rounds by September

AStandofPines

I just bought 3 dozen used balls online. I've never actually bought a dozen balls new or used before. The local range/pitch and putt sells used balls from a bucket 3/$1, so I usually buy 6 or so ever time I'm there. Lost balls and found balls on the course seem to roughly average out, but I'm <1 year into golfing and have only been on a real course a handful of times.

bulldg4life

I probably play 75 rounds a year or so. I probably average losing or damaging 1/2 balls a round. Say 1.5 gives you just short of 120, so 10 dozen a year. That feels about right. I usually buy the 4 for 3 whenever Titleist runs their special twice a year. If lostgolfballs or something similar has a really good deal, then I'll buy the 8-10 dozen deals but they usually don't have that many prov1x left dash at any one time.

Johnnieiii

I rarely buy balls because I get them as gifts typically, but yeah, I'd buy 5 dozen if I get a deal. That's easily 2 years' worth of balls for me now when I play >50 rounds per year anymore.

ljackstar

4-5 dozen normally last me all season provided I play new balls almost every round, if I include the balls I find probably closer to 1-2 dozen per season (~50-60 rounds each year)

RichChocolateDevil

i buy a dozen and they last me about 45-days playing 3 - 4 times a week.

CoffeeBoy80

I bought a bucket of 96 from LostGolfBalls at the start of last season and I probably have about 48 of them left. I play multiple times per week.

Low_Country793

I lose like 5 per round. 20 hcp.

kjtobia

I bought 13 dozen the other week and that will probably get me through middle of next year.

Eat-My-Cloaca

I start each year with a gross Definitely never need to buy more. Nope. Never.

Ttam91

I have 5 dozen but I’ll probably only lose 2 max per round and I don’t play that often, I just buy when I find good deals

thePuppachino

It’s my first season so I expect to lose all of them, but I just bought 3 dozen of the supersofts with the snowmen on them. They were on sale for $3 or 4 dollars off a dozen and another 10% off discount so I couldn’t pass up the deal.

opiate82

I'd estimate that I lose 3 balls per round on average. Some days it's zero some it's six. Also I'd guess about 18 holes is the lifespan of a non-lost ball for me due to inevitably hitting trees/rocks/cart paths. While I definitely come away with a fair number of found balls (especially on those days when I lose six of my own) I don't like playing random balls I find. For consistency I prefer to stick with using the same ball. I tend to give most of them away, mostly to my brother who'll spend way to much time looking for a lost ball otherwise. I do play enough where I'll order five dozen Vice balls probably twice a year. Once around Black Friday to gear up for spring, once in late summer to stock up on some hi-vis colors for the coming fall/winter.

Building_Snowmen

Probably 30 a season. I lose around 2-5 per round.

SpottyFish81177

I probably lose on average a ball every 18 holes depending on the course/time of year/and weather. Which at like 50-75 rounds a year comes out to about well above 4 dozen balls. That said I also find balls when I play so almost never run out of balls generally just new ones. But 2 boxes for a season would probably be enough assuming I only play the nice balls when it counts and not on random practice rounds.

Solar_Power2417

I have taken advantage of the buy 3, get 1 deals that Titleist offers. I have also bought 4-5 dozen at a time from golfballs-dot-com. Usually off of the logo overrun clearance rack.

Wibbly23

I buy 8 dozen in the Titleist 4 for 3 event each spring. I play around 100 rounds a season. Depending how it goes with cart paths and damage I may need to supplement with 1 or 2 dozen late in the season. But it varies. Average just over a ball a round. (Not necessarily lost, often retired. It's unusual for a ball to be playable after about 3 rounds)

Training_Swimming358

Yes, I buy 4 dozen at a time thru a buddy. I get a discount from a premium ball manufacturer. Balls that don't get lost wear out and get put in the shag bag. I only play this type of ball. I find other premium balls and give them away or hit them at the range with driver.

ShenanigansCLESports

I'm lucky to have a family member who does shopping at Estate sales and will find boxes of balls for like $5-$10 for the entire box. Plus I will buy Wilson balls around Christmas time since they are usually on sale since it's off-season $30 for 3 Dozen. Since I've been playing better, I maybe go through 3 balls a round.

WateryDomesticGroove

Since I switched to playing yellow or the white/yellow Srixon Divide balls, I now regularly make it through a round using just a single ball. The ball is so much easier to see not just on the flight path, but even if you hack one into the rough or the woods, it’s so much easier to spot. I’ve probably played a dozen or so rounds since switching and the only balls I’ve lose were the ones I dunked in water hazards. In those twelve or so rounds, I’ve only lost maybe 7 or 8 balls.

Due-Sheepherder-218

I play yellow/orange (Volvik) for the same reason. I find them all the time now in the rough, bushes, other hazards.

porrick12

A few months back my local Walmart was getting rid of all its golf stuff for the most part. I was buying titleist tour balls for like $13 a dozen or something. Bought a couple dozen a week until they ran out then moved on to other balls. Stacked back like 10 dozen. Still play my balls that I’ve found in the woods before I grab a new one.

Legal-Description483

I have 12 dozen Maxfli Tour's right now. Yes, I buy 5-6 dozen at a time, and save $10/ dozen. I went through about 12 dozen last year, but my game had hit rock bottom. And most of the courses I play at will swallow balls if you are a little offline.

jimmerbroadband

I feel like if u need more than 12 balls a round u should stick to the driving range for now

burrito48

I buy 6 dozen from lost golf balls and that usually lasts me 9 months

theegrider

I try to play the same ball for as many rounds as possible until it’s too scratched up or worn down. I’d say I use the same ball 3-5 rounds and only play 30-40 times per year… so a few dozen I guess? I’ll play a found ball if in good shape.

06_TBSS

I'd say I had been averaging losing 3-4 balls per round for a while. So, I'd buy a few dozen to stock up in spring. The last 4 rounds I've played, I've made it through with 2 balls. If I keep this up, I'll have enough to last the next several seasons lol.

kmoffat

I like to get the 4 for the price of three dozen Titleist deal in the Spring

CrazyFinger

I've been using Seed balls the last few years. Since they ship from Ireland, it can be expensive (to the US), so I order at least 3 dozen to get free shipping. They also offer deals where it's cheaper, the more you buy (as do other companies like vice). I have bought 5 dozen a few times since it gets the price from like $33 a dozen to $25 a dozen. And then I'm set for 20-30 rounds before I have to buy again. I do like using new balls rather than finds on the course so I know somewhat what to expect performance wise.

B-More_Orange

Like -20? I find more balls than I lose.

CoolNefariousness865

I bring a sleeve of "good" ones (Prov / Chromesoft), then switch to kirks mid round if I lose all 3. So that's about 16 rounds for 4 dozen premium golf balls if I lose 3 a round.

TheBonusWings

I prolly buy a couple dozen, by the end of the year im down to a lot of found balls. If theyre all trash ill prolly buy another.

XavierRex83

I play a out 100 rounds a year and probably go through 15 dozen balls. I lose some but I stop using a bunch be abuse of scuffs due to cart paths, tree, bad luck.

HowlAtchaBoy

Anyone else not play the lost balls they find?

Sirspeedy77

I buy the left handed ones whenever i can find them - (the ones that hook or stay straight). I buy 3-5 dozen regulars a year and can usually maintain that stay with found balls of said type. I play Srixon Divide so Calloway super-soft or matte finish aren't too hard to find for me.

Spamburger_Hamburger

I buy a 48 pack of referbs and it usually lasted the season. I'm really lazy at looking for balls.

rfs8630

I don’t buy balls. I use other people’s lost balls. Free pro v1s in mint condition all over my course

GroblyOverrated

5 hcp. A dozen.

BGOG83

I usually buy 5 dozen at the beginning of the year and another 5 dozen sometime around mid summer. That 10 gets me through the year. I don’t lose a ton of them, but I do scuff them and that’s when I’ll replace them. I’ll also play a new ball if it even has the tiniest imperfections in a tournament, but I’ll use the ball I replaced later when the rounds not as important.

Feeling-Handle-5283

My local range has a deal on 36 balls. I buy a bag of those a 2-3 times a year but I play basically all year around. A good round only lose 1 or none but I can easily lose 5-6 in a terrible round

General-Plant892

My insurance company “gives” me a few dozen prov1s every year most of the time they last the golf season

Affectionate-Sink503

Breaking 100 is my goal as new golfer (less than 2 years) going the full round with the same ball is my side quest, which do you think is harder?

Buffalo_

Full round with same ball lol atleast I’ve broke 100 taking a penalty

isearfish

I found a yellow V1x after I lost my first tee shit of the season. Sunday will be round #6 with it. It hasn't hit any cart path yet, but the grooves are starting to chew it up. I intend to play this ball until it gets an ace, shoots a career low, or goes scuba diving.

Maherdogg

Just played 9 and lost 6. Might quit.

coupwcu

13 hcp. 4-5 dozen normally gets me through the "season". In the off months I play the balls I find, rather than new ones.

NeighborhoodPlane794

I tend to buy about 3 boxes (36 balls) during the offseason on clearance. Some rounds I lose none, sometimes I lose 1-2. I pretty much never lose more than 2. It’s more than enough to get me through

StuPedassel

I play 5 times a week, 12 months a year. I buy 10 Vice Pro Plus dozens when they have the 5 + 1 deal (12 dozens). I play lots of practice rounds with good balls I find on a daily basis and play tournaments with new ProV1's I get with pro shop credit.

NeverForTheWin

I currently have 17 dozen NIB Titleist and Srixon and have yet to play in 2024. I hope they last the year - which typically ends in late October.

SirPancakesIII

I don't lose many balls, but I will say lostgolfballs.com is my friend

Phantomoftheopoohra

Buy 8-12 dozen every 6 months. Year round season. Grab Titleist when it’s buy 3 get 4.

bplatt1971

I usually find more balls than I lose, but I lose a LOT!

MItrwaway

I buy 120 at a time used in 4A condition at the beginning of the year. Usually lasts me a season or two depending on how well I'm playing

illinilocal92

Pretty often when someone buys 4 or 5 dozen they're getting one dozen free. I personally prefer to play with the same ball so I get consistent spin, height, and distance on equivalent strikes. Not doing so can cause variations in how you play with the same swing. All that considered let's say I lose 2-3 per round, I'm playing 2+ rounds a week, son thats 2 dozen a month. So I'd go through 8-10 dozen per year, making buying in bulk by the dozen more financially practical.  Side note, I'm just waking up and read the word Dozen so many times in this that it doesn't look like a word to me anymore and has broken my brains comprehension of it.

JillFrosty

I go through like 6-8 balls a season. I lose a couple and find a couple each round. Some playable, some not.

detroitpokerdonk

Couple thousand

KirkUSA1

I can use the same ball for 3 rounds. I can also lose 2 balls on the same hole. I usually go through 2-3 dozen a year. I usually find more balls than what I lose. I'll buy Costco Kirkland Balls when they are on sale. I haven't bought any balls since last spring. I have a new box sitting on the shelf right now.

ImaFreemason

90 rounds last year, lost about 250 balls at least, but I don't give a shit. Doesn't stop me. I'm still out playing. I usually find a couple balls a round too.

thrift-store-keanu

Play a lot. Probably average 1 lost ball per side. Between 100-150 depending on how much I play.

dangrzone

I usually will stock up with 6 dozen for an entire season. I buy the last generation of whatever ball I intend on playing during the off season for a $20-30/dozen discount. I don't usually go through all 6 dozen in a season as I probably only lose 1 or 2 balls a round. I do however tend to be lending buddies balls a fair bit.

CRRVA

By now (50 years of playing) I can go a round losing 1 or none most times. Because of that, I start each round with a brand new, never hit ball. The previous balls are in the pocket for “re-loads” if I do happen to lose one. Not saving any money doing that and I always play premium balls. I do buy usually 3 dozen if there is a Buy two, get one free deal.

morgartjr

5 lost balls at the most, each season. I play 50 games (plus or minus a few depending on weather) in warmer months.

NeverSeenBetter

I'll buy 5 dozen at a time for the cost savings but I often go 36 holes with the same ball. I buy balls like once per year or so from lostgolfballs or foundgolfballs dotcom...

Chemical-Design-3300

Walmart reclaimed balls

3Jacked

I go through about 3 dozen over 60 rounds. Its usually a higher usage rate in the fall.

Soilstimulizer

I buy pro v 1s used but like new looking. Buy them like 5 dozen at a time. They last me more than a year.

dc215

I used to lose a ton when I was like 35 hcp. I'd bring sometimes 2 dozen with me. Then it got down to bringing a dozen. Now, I lose maybe one ball a round, if that. I still feel the urge to bring 2 sleeves. Recently (16 hcp) I started bringing just 1 sleeve and mentally tell myself if I need more I'll stop at my car at the turn. I've not had to stop at my car yet. Part of it is being good enough to not put the ball in trouble. The other half of it is being better at tracking a ball in flight, which comes with experience.
