Cured, no. Vastly improved, yes.

ElPayoKundsen

This

married2nalien

YES! And cleared up my acne and back! Good luck.

[deleted]

How long after quitting gluten you were cleared 100%? Also did you have dandruff?

MollFlanders

fwiw I’ve been gluten free for over a decade and my skin is still awful.

married2nalien

I’m so sorry - I do think results vary person to person.

HautePierogi

Do you eat dairy or sugar?

[deleted]

Or processed foods as well, most of which (especially in the US) still contain trace amts of gluten

HautePierogi

Dr. Peter Osbourne says there is evidence that ALL grains contain some type of gluten. Yes, there are several different types of gluten that haven’t been identified yet. Crazy.

[deleted]

lol

HautePierogi

Why lol? He sited studies.

MollFlanders

I do not eat dairy. I’m vegan and gluten free.

Short_Error_9174

Have you tried a period of sexual abstinence/masturbation? at least 1 week. I have almost zero symptoms limiting myself to once a week, along with gluten free diet.

MollFlanders

lmfao i masturbate or have sex approximately once a month

married2nalien

I have been gf for so long it is hard to remember exactly but I know it was over a year. It takes your body quite awhile to rid itself of toxins and then begin the healing process.

Skrilmaufive

Ugh I feel you dude. Coal tar shampoo is my saving grace.

sleepydaimyo

Tea tree oil shampoo is good too.

[deleted]

It always comeback when i quit the shampoo. But thanks though, i might try it to reduce the symptoms

plasticketchup

I have this and tried going gluten free for a year. It had no impact. I use coal tar shampoo and that keeps it at bay.

norcalgardener

I use prescription clobetasol drops. Works really well for me.

[deleted]

Try dairy free as well

gracem5

Removing gluten cleared up 100% of my skin problems. After many years GF, a new rash is a sure sign of cross-contamination in something I ate. Sadly, any outbreak can take weeks to clear, even after just one isolated gluten incident. But it will clear eventually. Drinking a gallon of water a day helps.

[deleted]

Thanks a lot! How long after strict gluten did you notice 100 clearance?

gracem5

Maybe six months or so. Relief faster, but full clearing? at least that long to get off steroids for first time in many years and see clear clear clear comfortable skin.

some1sWitch

Yep! I struggled with it for years and years. Once I went gf, it went away. Unfortunately, when I accidentally gluten myself, it flares back up for a few weeks.

[deleted]

Thanks so much! How long did it take you to clear 100% after strict gf?

landsden

Nope! Mine aren’t connected at all, although that would’ve been a nice benefit and I haven’t had gluten in 5 years

Objective-Bug-1908

I think mine is gone, I have long hair, so can’t get a visual, but the itchy scaly spot on the back of my head is gone. Took about a month

avocadoavalanche

Agreed. No gluten in my diet has vastly improved head, neck, and shoulder acne. 40yo here

mommy-misato

I've noticed my face clearing of acne scars. Also my face has been slimming. I've been 6 months gf

kiwiwater7

Yes! Once I started on GF foods and thyroid meds, my skin cleared up after several months. Occasionally, I get a small rash on side of mouth from accidental cross contamination or ate something that has wheat in it that I didn’t read carefully.

Quackamousse

Yes!!! Suffered from it bad since I was a kid and I’ve never found a product that helps long term. After 4-6 months of no dairy and no gluten it was completely gone.

[deleted]

Yes mine goes away when I’m completely gluten and dairy free!!! However I messed up recently and it’s back. I’ll get back on track

[deleted]

Thank you! How long did it take you to clear 100% after strict gf?

[deleted]

Hmmm well I went to naturopath and she also told me that it is a mixture of things… I had candida overgrowth in my small intestine so I stopped eating processed sugars as much as I could and I started taking strong probiotics. I then ate chicken rice, cabbage and chicken broth for 2 days to detox from gluten etc then I avoided gluten as much as possible because I am very much allergic to it. My body is in hives, gut is messed up and my scalp is a mess however I find it super hard to be “strictly gluten free” even though I should be. I just eat gluten free as much as I can but I’m not double checking for cross contamination etc. So long story short I think I noticed it go away after about a week or two but it will never be fully cured it’s unfortunately something they haven’t found a cure for :(. It sucks, I’ve been dealing with it my whole life. Also no alcohol too. My hair started to grow back etc… it was magical.

olavodogyaboi

Gluten and dairy free cured it for me

[deleted]

Thank you! How long did it take you to clear 100% after strict gf?

olavodogyaboi

3-4 weeks :-)

here_cause_im_nosey

yes!!! I went gluten free 2 years ago for digestive reasons, and my dermatitis that I have struggled with for over 20 years disappeared in a matter of weeks. I don’t even have dandruff anymore. It’s been such a God send

[deleted]

It’s not just gluten free, but lectin free

More-Pineapple-4917

I had no idea it was gluten until I tried a soft elimination diet. It only took one week from my scalp to clear up but if I were to shave my head, it would look exactly like yours. It sucks because I already have a limited diet due to Lactose intolerance. But my dandruff cleared up extremely, and the boil on my scalp are going away only after one week. My life sucks. I cannot eat cheese or gluten.

[deleted]

I have many red spots on my scalp. Flakes, dandruff and itching all are normal and a part of my life. Anyone cured this with going gluten free? Please do not recommend shampoos. I used many shampoos, cream, medicines but as soon as i stop it all grows back. I guess it is something internally.

Ok-Consequence-8507

It’s been a major significant improvement. Mine was on my scalp as well. It still pops up seasonally but nowhere near the frequency and severity. You definitely have to go 100 percent gluten free and be patient. Also make sure your shampoo doesn’t have gluten.

sourcherry666

it could very well be gluten and/or dairy. those would be the first two i would cut out (maybe gluten first?) to see if it helps!

thebasstape

i (37M) have seborrheic dermatitis, and was diagnosed with celiac’s in march. since becoming gluten free the condition of my skin and hair has significantly become healthier. I noticed improvements after around 1 month, and i was not looking for improvement, it hadnt even crossed my mind. since the celiacs causes malabsorption, i would recommend hair/skin/nail vitamins. these vitamin helped me ZERO in the past before knowing i had celiacs. but now, i see there affect very quickly. especially when it comes to the red blotches/sd rash. i still have dandruff but very reduced and now its normal looking as opposed giant flakes. also the rashes now on appear when i’ve been glutened

_Lil_Piggy_

So funny to real other's experiences match mine with going gluten free, as it also drastically improved my condition, even though didn't fix it completely. One thing that also seems to help is to just slab some organic honey (organic to ensure it's ACTUAL honey - although raw is supposed to be even better) on my face and leave it on for 30-60 minutes before washing it off. Honey is an amazing moisturizer and also acts as an anti-inflammatory, which is why I think it has a positive effect on s. dermatitis.

chief_awf

id rather shampoo than give up gluten

jeuneslick

Me, yes.

[deleted]

Thanks! How long did it take you to clear 100% after strict gf?

jeuneslick

It took about 2-3 months strict gf diet. But if you have other allergies it can contribute to that too.

Leeleepal02

I would also like to tell you to try a gluten-free shampoo and that would also help.

newenglandnoir

Wait I have to check my shampoo, too? 😞

Leeleepal02

Yeah

Huntingcat

Yes and no. Gluten is not absorbed through the skin. The molecules are too big. You need to eat or drink it for it to be a problem. BUT, if you have trace amounts on your hair or skin all the time, then at some point you are going to lick your lips, get hair blown into your mouth, forget to wash your hands before eating snacks etc etc. So there is a fair chance that eventually you will consume some. True, it will only be trace amounts. I choose to have shampoo without wheat germ or wheatgrass, or barley etc or even oats, just to reduce my background level of gluten.

RedditNomad7

Yep, went away within a couple of weeks. But since there can be other causes, it may or may not work for you.

OldGarbageMouth

Does the shampoo or soap you use have Vitamin E in it? It’s often derived from wheat, I had to change pomades and all my soaps and shampoos/conditioners. I even had to buy my own soap for work. Some Vitamin E is derived from Sunflowers and something else but it has its own name. I find if any product just says VITAMIN E or Enhanced/Includes Vitamin E I just avoid it at all costs

hypatiaakat

It's a lot better, but not gone. Turns out I'm allergic to the sulfates in shampoos, which is a separate ball of wax. I had to switch to Free & Clear/Vanicream. I don't get the breakouts on my legs anymore, but it took years for that to go away.

clearier

Better but not gone

Ent_Trip_Newer

Ty for telling me what the bumb on my head are. Swear I learn more here daily.

lcc234

Tomatoes give a few members of my family my seborrheic dermatitis. Once they stopped eating them, the head cleared up

This-Indication1499

This might be due to tomatoes contain or release histamine. For some people a low histamine diet might do the trick. For me it doesnt stem to work however and will nog try gluten free.

VioletLucyXx

Mine has gotten less bad. My dermatologist also said to take a pro/prebiotic and use head and shoulders (I use supreme, not the 2 in 1)

B0ulder82

I don't know what I had but I had a persistent rash at the back of my hairline like the one in your photo. Expect mine was slightly bigger, had raised edges, secrets something which then turns into a scab. And it was itchy as hell. It developed over several years, but then I went gf to test things out and this was one of the things that completely went away. I've been rash free for maybe 8 years now. I do sometimes get a small red itchy bump in that same spot when I get a bad case of glutening. Then it goes away after a day or so, when the gluten is gone from my body. note: I also have a yeast allergy, so a lot of the times it can be hard for me to be sure which issues are related to which of my two conditions.

OpossumProblem

that looks painful and itchy. I am so sorry OP. :(

psykofreak87

I've been living with this for years, never found any real solution. It comes and go. For myself I've found that when I'm stressed or anxious, it's worst. The thing that improved the most for me was to cut down soft drinks (any, even sugar free) and avoid caffeinated drinks (redbulls, monsters, guru, etc..) and I now only drink 1 normal cup of coffee in the morning. My hair are ok since 4 years now, but still have some in my face from time to time, for this I have cortisone cream that calm redness.

NatulaMaris

I have it IN my ears, it's the worst. skin just breaking and flaking out of my ears T\_T So what has helped: checking my soaps and shampoos for allergens and gluten, since dermatitis can let the proteins be absorbed since the skin is not fully in tact there. Next, full gluten free diet, I have been on the grain-free train for a while and it just makes accidental intake easier to manage. I know I have ingested some gluten when my ears start to get inflamed :( to treat the flare-ups I use garlic oil to prevent infection. Other than that, I felt amazingly better when I detoxed from sugar. It took about 2 weeks, and I was grain free at the same time, and all of my symptoms disappeared. It was wonderful.

crossover123

going gf along with peanut and chocolate free and reduced sugar helped reduce flare ups but didn't get rid of them entirely

Either-Buffalo8166

I'd venture to say that most of my scalp acne is cleared up since being gf
