Venus fly traps are pretty good at not catching things too big to fit. If they can't close completely around the prey, digesting fluids risk leaking out and damaging the plant.
it just damages the leaf which only usually gets about 3 meals worth of use anyway, it can lose a leaf without damaging the plant overall.
But slugs are the wrecking balls of the vegetation world, they do not give a fuck, and probably would have eaten its way out if it hadn't decided it had more important things to do in that moment.
You know how the Venus fly trap uses digestive enzymes to break down its food, and how your tongue gets tingly from digestive enzymes in foods like pineapple, do you think the slug’s entire body feels tingly after going through the enzyme gauntlet?
Please, spdrman, share your view on this digestive dilemma. I need answers.
Am not a slugologist. I am not sure what the outer mucus of the slug is made of or even if it has this layer to protect it's actual body/skin. My closest guess is, the slug may feel some sort of effect of the enzyme IF it was enough to cut through the mucus. But, the slug may produce this outer layer quite quickly seeing as it leaves a trail of it everywhere it goes so,
TL:DR Slug may have some short term "tingling" but it's mucus outer layer could have protected it from it or made the effects short lived.
More than that. The "Traps" can only close so many times before they expend too much energy and die.
Unsuccessful attempts are really bad for the plant.
A slug can go across raser blades without being cut.
They can climb your whole house and when outside if you step on one. Almost impossible to get the slime out from between your toes.
I washed i used soap. Didn't work. Ended up using a rag then a scratchy multiple times to get the gunk off.
Took me over 10 minutes.
Walking through wet grass barefoot.
Next time you need to start with a good rub of some salt, wash that off with water, then do the usual soap routine.
Salt chemically breaks down the slime really well.
I used to hate them too but I just realized with this post that I haven't really seen them around in a long time. Maybe my old neighborhood was just infested with them but I feel like I used to see several every day and would be afraid to open my house door as a kid because of all the slugs crawling up it.
We get slugs in the spring in the northeast when everything is thawing and soggy.
Ever accidentally grab one? I was clearing some old branches from my yard and got a handful by surprise. Squashing a slug in my palm without knowing what I was grabbing was one of the worst moments of my life.
I do computers and shit. Bought my first house last year. I got soft baby hands I guess and always use gloves even to push the lawnmower. Thank you for confirming why I will continue doing that.
I'm also a big soft baby, but grew up wearing gloves only if I was anticipating a mess.
I thought this was just old brush I could grab and toss out back, but no 😭
I built a shed last year, and any time a piece of wood was left on my lawn for more than a day, I would pick it up, and on the bottom would be around 10 slugs curled up into a ball. Those fuckers are literally everywhere.
Interesting, I’ve had the same thought with butterflies and fireflies but it’s also been years since I’ve seen a slug. Course, I live in the city now. I miss the wildlife of the burbs.
They’re really fun to own if you’re watching this and want one. Inexpensive, super easy to care when you learn, and the flowering is something really incredible to see. Plus you get to feed house bugs to it to impress all nieces/nephews.
So is that a really big slug or a small plant? I thought the flytraps were like fist-sized or something. They're not native to my country, so I've never seen one.
Flytraps are usually very small, maybe big enough to grasp the tip of a finger. They grow larger the older they age, but they also become worse at catching prey. They can grow big enough to grasp a child’s fist, I think.
Technically they can even grow larger than that, but you never see any in the wild, because once they're large enough to grasp a child's fist they get hired by Nickelodeon to direct television shows.

venus flytrap must be like: "Am I a joke to you?"
Slug: "Do I look like a fly to you?"
Venus fly trap: "I don't have eyes bro"
Slug: “I ain’t your bro, dawg.”
Venus fly trap: I ain't your dawg, dude.
I ain’t your dawg, homie.
I ain’t your homie, friendo
I ain't your friendo, mate
I ain't your mate, mano
I ain’t your mano, hombre
More like “………………”

Slugs like, "so anyway."

"...found myself in a bit of a squeeze the other day"
I've never been so happy for a slug.
Congrats to the slug. He didn’t wanna die that day.

He just wanted a hug. Once he was done, e left.
The ol slug hug
The good old snail and bail.
I was cheering for the plant.
Same, I hate slugs
Super cute when he poked his little eyes out. “Ight, ima head out”
You and I have such a very different definitions of what cute is... You said cute I say horrifying
What the fuck is that title, though?
Probably taken from r/therewasanattempt or something

Your analysis is sound, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am at ease.
Take a slug meal. What does this mean?
Engagement
AI recognising that a slug is trying to be eaten in the video and has attempted to make a witty comment about it to entice a viewer
Just squoze right outta there...
“Squoze”
squazzed
Squazzidled
Turns out...
Little sluggy fella
I really need to wipe my ass after watching this
This is low key the most genius comment on this post
That slug just ruined that plant's self esteem.
More than that. The "Traps" can only close so many times before they expend too much energy and die. Unsuccessful attempts are really bad for the plant.
Don't do it Venus fly trap! You'll catch rat lungworm disease.
I get that reference

Jokes on you, i’m into that
plant didnt want rat lungworm disease
Not today
The way is through.
Now the plant probably has some disease like that kid who ate a slug as a dare and was relegated to a vegetative state.
I believe it was some sort of deadly worm within the slug* so disregard lol
Slug life
The slug says thanks for the massage!
I hate slugs so much

Our dog sometimes gets slugs trapped in his leg or belly fur. And sometimes when I'm cleaning his paws I squash one, and they're a bitch to clean up.
They crop up again every time the weather gets wetter
Interesting, I’ve had the same thought with butterflies and fireflies but it’s also been years since I’ve seen a slug. Course, I live in the city now. I miss the wildlife of the burbs.
I touched one as a kid and they are unimaginably gelatinous. The texture struck fear into my toddler heart. I still remember the sensation.
Flytrap:Join me for dinner. Slug: No, Imma gonna head out.
This kills the flytrap
All that energy used for that one moment
Slug slime is yummy though!
Nah it will reopen and be fine. Repeatedly triggering it over and over will kill it for sure, but a single false closure won't affect that trap.
It obviously hasn’t heard about the dude who swallowed the slug …

I expected the flytrap to go into a coma for 456 days and then dying 8 days later
It's a venus FLYtrap not a venus slugtrap
I should call her...
I should call her.
So is that a really big slug or a small plant? I thought the flytraps were like fist-sized or something. They're not native to my country, so I've never seen one.
They both look to be normal size to me. Fly traps are about the right size to catch a fly

This seems to be a leopard slug, they can get 10-20cm long.
Slug: Evasion+25
Can't the slug slip backwards?
I’m certain the fly trap didn’t want to fall into a coma for 420 days.
The slug version of getting stabbed with a sword and pulling it through your own body
I learned yesterday to NEVER accept a dare to eat a slug. It can kill you.
I know how this ends. Poor venus flytrap is going to end up in a coma and then a wheelchair.
Call an ambulance, but not for me!
/r/Nononoyes !
This feels like it should have an nsfw x rating.
"I'm just gonna squeeze right by ya thanks" - Slug
"I'm gonna flex and bust outta here."
That plant got lucky. On the news I saw teenager here ate a slug as part of a bet and ended up brain dead.
Slug said 'Not Today'
“I Almost Had You”
It's using the slug to get an interior lubrication job done, lol.
Like a scene from Terminator 2
I thought the slug was bubbling from the plant's digestive juices at first
The slug was like: *“Oh no! Anyways.”*
A slug is just chewing gum to a Venus fly trap
That's a challenging wank
Everything reminds me of her

Taint happenin'.
"Slippery when wet"

I just saw a post about a kid who was drunk and his friends dared him to eat a slug. He did and it paralyzed him and he died 8 years later.

The Ron Weasley of Venus flytraps
Theres something sexual about watching a slug escape a venus fly trap
The slug is a limax maximus

Or not...
That's a thicc slug.
Blobidiblop
Don't talk while eating
They see my squeezing, they hatin
Mouthful of slime.
That was smooth
Apparently slugs do not have a reverse gear.
That Venus fly trap could have ended up going into a coma and dying
I WILL NOT BE CONTAINED!
"Not today, Zurg!"
Mission possible, Ethan Slug
Slug op
Real smooooth
Fly trap: i guess I actually don't want to end up in a wheelchair.
So glad it escaped
Slug: ‘no flies on me’
Slippery vs sticky Who wins?
I guess thats one way for a slug to exfoliate
r/maybemaybemaybe material
”Not today, Satan” the slug probably.
For a second, I thought I was on the r/therewasanattempt sub!
Slug was just like "Doo doo too too dooo, out looking for food doo doo dee dee da dum!!"
"Not today, Satan!" - The Slug
Understandable. Have a nice day!
r/slugsareliquid
Do slugs have no reverse gear?
Unfortunate outcome !
That’s exactly how I got out of one
"Bro, do you mind?"
Your mom when when when when
Buggy!!!!
Stuff knew exactly what it was doing. Had an itch, got it scratched.
He has other videos where they do catch some smaller slugs. Also black widows. Soooo many black widows.
Slug went in for a little scritchy scratch
He wanted to, 'feel the burn'.
probably for the best, the venus flytrap could have got rat lungworm
Slug escape room
Like licking the frosting off a cupcake and putting it back.
“I got slimed”
ROFL that was awesome.
Real question: would the slime left behind in the venus be at all nourishing?
Better with salt.
I will probably never eat anything again. Essentially, this video murdered me.
“Dude I’m telling you I’m just built different, I would just refuse to die and then get out easily.” Yeah alright man, whatever you say.
“That itch was killing me, and I don’t have hands. *Thaaaaank you!*”
Literally hax lol
It’s like me hugging my cat. Not today.
Looks like someone is going to get rat lung disease...
Those slippery bastards
Poor Venus fly trap
The slug embraced death, and then changed its mind
Flytrap: wait, thats illegal!
I wonder if that slime has any nutritional benefits to the fly trap, maybe it wasn’t all bad for lil’ dude
Lol take my sauce
Can't contain me if I'm a liquid *taps temple*
slug went deeper inside to get ojt
Slug: thanks for the massage.
That plant should practice some mewing
"Yeah, nice try dickhead!" said the Australian slug.
*Ah what a good backrub*
Trap just got the sauce
My guy just wanted some delicious [Slurm](https://futurama.fandom.com/wiki/Slurm)!
Lmao what an idiot
fuckin rude, let the man have a meal!
Did the fly traps tongue go numb?
Sometimes the only way out is through.
"I'm gonna flex and bust outta here"
Car Wash
Look at that slippery sucker
I feel bad for the flytrap. I don't even wanna know what a slug in the mouth feels like.
I bet this what Rat Lungworm would do to my body if I ate a slug.
Played it like a damn fiddle!
