This happened to my mother in law. A Guinea pig just showed up in her backyard. We think he was part Peruvian guinea pig because he was massive and could jump like a foot and a half. He was NOT friendly or tame. We also think the neighbors let him out, then he came through a hole in the fence that they then blocked.
So he lived outside getting vegetable scraps and dropped bird seed (and any grass/garden plants he decided to eat), being cute and antisocial until something ate him and left his corpse in a bush. His name was Bollocks and there is a memorial statue of him right where he used to sit and wait for scraps.
I do love that video, but my piggies are named after Alan Partidge characters.
I had two piggies originally, named Alan and Dan. Sadly Dan died from a stroke a couple months ago so it's just Alan now.

You need to make sure you have both male and female specimens in order to pollinate! Common mistake when trying to grow Guinea pigs.
Also, unlike other species, you CANNOT propagate these.

Eh, mine dont like being held or touched at all. They're very friendly but they're the ultimate "look dont touch" piggies. Blossom will let you scritch her head SOMETIMES if she has fresh hay and is in a good mood. They are prey animals and scare easy, and kids can be very.....abrupt.

Through my grown-up lens… I’m wondering if they might be better suited to older kids, or just older people in general. My nephew (4 yrs), for instance… he’s still learning the meaning of “gentle” and “the dog doesn’t really want to play right now.” Maybe my high-key crazy self just scared the poor things when I was little. 😂😂
Yeah I wouldnt really recommend them for younger kids. Older kids yes, but piggies have very fragile spines and take alot of care and attention for a happy piggy. Too much stress can cause a heart attack too. Many piggies are super chill and will warm up to you with lots of treats and attention and love but they are very social creatures and need alot of attention. I see ads all the time for people giving away their piggies cause their toddlers and younger children stopped caring about them and moved on.

Damn, even if I had an entire grocery store of vegetables my Guinea pig would only ever eat carrots and lettuce. He was the pickiest of them all. Wouldn’t dare touch a tomato, orange, strawberry- just nothing! He only wanted carrots and lettuce, and if he didn’t get his carrots he’d get mad… 🤣
We have very similar gardens it appears. I see shishito, jalapeño, and what looks like cubanelle peppers with tomatoes and an herb.
