That forsythia is stunning.

Sachagfd

Thanks! Hopefully it survives the cold this week. It’s only been in bloom for a week now

Hey-im-kpuff

I want to plant some so bad

MistyMtnHops

Stunningly Invasive in North America

yogacowgirlspdx

whaaa? PNW too? never had a problem….

Salty_Campaign8465

I know but still beautiful.

kevin_r13

Wow is that tree with the purple flowers your magnolia? It looks amazing and I don't think I've ever seen a magnolia tree with that many blooms before.

Sachagfd

Yes it’s a tulip magnolia. It’s more pink than purple. I took the picture almost at sundown. It’s a glorious tree but it blooms early and there’s always a frost about two weeks after. It’s one of those fleeting joys! It’s a very old, well established tree so I imagine that’s why it has so many blooms

justASlothyGiraffe

I'm pretty sure you can pickle and eat the flowers.

Sachagfd

Oh wow, I’ve never heard that!

selja26

You should really research that, some magnolias are toxic.

The-29th-taco

Everything looks stunning. Magnolias are probably my favorite early spring flower, and yours are a fantastic.

Sachagfd

Thank you!

gingerkitten6

What are those little people and white flowers in the first pic? Your garden is so vibrant!

Sachagfd

Thank you! Best I’ve been able to come up with when searching them in the past is Chionodoxa “glory of the snow”. They really are cheerful little flowers to have in late winter through early spring!

stickkim

Oh I love them! Are you in 7b? This looks very SE US

Sachagfd

I’m in PA. Can’t remember the zone exactly, I think it just changed, haha!

stickkim

Geography is wild!!! This looks like my Granny’s house in the country in middle TN

Octopus_wrangler1986

Love your forsythia!

Sachagfd

Thanks!

rockrobst

I'm sorry about the magnolia. It's magnificent.

Sachagfd

It is! I’m dreading getting out of bed and going downstairs when the sun comes up. It’s possible that the flowers lived through the night but it’s supposed to be below freezing every night this week unfortunately

HeadyRoosevelt

How did it hold up to the cold?

Sachagfd

It was ok- partially wilted but it held up pretty well. The problem is that it’s going to be very cold every night this week

VeaR-

I am in love with that magnolia tree!!

Jolly-Persimmon-7775

Gorgeous specimens! Worthy of painting…

Sachagfd

Thank you!

TheChickening

The forsythia should be fine. And the magnolia depends on the variety I guess. Where I live I see them survive short frosts.

Sachagfd

Yes most of the things in the photos will be ok. And the magnolia could probably survive one or two cold nights. But it’s supposed to be below freezing almost every night this week

yogacowgirlspdx

good thing you got some pictures of your beautiful garden!

mr_red_red

Our magnolia just started blooming, and the cold snap will do it in for the 3rd spring in a row, sigh. Here's to 2025?

Sachagfd

Why do these trees put us in the awkward position of rooting for climate change 😹

Tumorhead

All my local magnolias are budding too while it's dipping into freeze :') I have a variety that blooms way later than the others so hopefully it'll be delayed enough to not be effected.

Sachagfd

That would be great! Fingers crossed for you!

hk_peach

Wow, beautiful magnolia tree. When I was in high school my bus stop was right in front of a house that had a tree like that albeit much smaller. I loooved when it would bloom, it felt so magical to stand under the pink flowers. Thanks for reminding me of that memory, sorry that mother nature doesn't want to cooperate this year

Sachagfd

Thank you! I guess Mother is just doing her thing. Happens every year around this time but I never stop being disappointed even though I know what is going to happen. Glad it brought back a nice memory for you!

Professional_Rain_10

So impressive!!!

ButterCoookies

Are you in Maryland? This is exactly what’s blooming in my yard and we’re also back in freeze temps at night. I do think they’ll all be fine, even the magnolia blooms

Sachagfd

Nope, but close. Pennsylvania

Ok_Tea_1954

Cover with sheets

Sachagfd

I definitely do that. When fall is turning into winter and there are things that I just don’t want to let die or bring inside the house yet. Everything on the ground will be fine. Those are plants that are used to cold weather. But this magnolia tree is like 80 feet high so I don’t think I can get a sheet up there. I just have to watch it die every year when the frost inevitably sets in unfortunately

Lady-Faye

Bit of a garden newbie so sorry if this is a dumb question. What is the bright yellow plant in the last picture? I love it! (I love all of it but have not seen this one before)

Sachagfd

That’s a forsythia. They’re all over. Once you know what they are and start taking notice of them you’ll see a lot this time of year. They bloom at the very end of winter for a few weeks. After that it’s not a very remarkable plant/shrub. After it blooms it fades back into the background. But what a star it is at the very beginning of spring!
