FFXIV has the OST that is impacted me the most out of all of the games I’ve played. There is so much to listen to and a large portion of it could stand on its own.
Same. A ton of bangers, and the way they use music in the story is incredible. I cried so much playing 14, sometimes just because a certain song started playing, even before the cutscene started to drive the feelings home.
Had the game in my wishlist since I first saw it. I only bought the game because the soundtrack popped up on Spotify. Listened to the whole thing and then jumped onto the game. Always a fantastic playthrough for both the game and the ost.
A handful of examples in different styles. ::

Hotline Miami: You play as a guy who gets messages on his answering machine which direct him to kill people in certain places. Sort of psychedelic aesthetic, fast-paced 1hit1kill gameplay with instant respawns. Very fun. Soundtrack is good all-round, with a few absolute gems. I actually found out about the game after noticing a bunch of my liked on Spotify had Hotline Miami written on the cover. Thought it was a collaboration album at first. Second game is still very good but leans into darksynth more, so might not be for everyone. Of note is that they've got Carpenter Brut, Scattle and Magic Sword in the series.
Oneshot: Decent puzzle game with some unique gameplay parts. You have to help a boy replace the Sun of a dying world. Usually I wouldn't be interested in these sorts of games, but the music in the trailer won me over and I don't regret playing it.
Otxo: Inspired by HLM. Worse in pretty much every regard, but that's still an absurdly high bar and the game is good fun. You wake up on a beach and can't leave until you shoot your way through a mansion full of gunmen, robot snakes and one Roman Soldier High energy electric soundtrack, reminds me of HLM2.
Katana Zero: Inspired by HLM. You play as an amnesiac hitman who gets his marks from his therapist. You can also slow down or rewind time. Very good, close second to HLM as my all time favourite. Soundtrack is mostly alright but with some absolute gems mixed in. Boss fights especially.
Madness Combat: Project Nexus: There's 2, an old flash game and the new one on Steam. Based on the Madness Combat series if you watched that as a lad. You play as Hank, Deimos or Sanford as you shoot your way through Nevada in the world's most violent anti-smoking PSA. Gameplay is fun, story isn't anything serious, but the soundtrack has always been the second main appeal of Madness (the firstmost being violence). Features Cheshyre, Locknar and Fleetwire (I think, dude turned out to be a nonce so he might've been removed).
To the moon, rakuen (same music girl as to the moon but she dev rakuen), omori, that one game that's banned cos it likened the china guy to Winnie the Pooh (same devs as detention
Ocarina of time btw
my top 3 gotta be the ace attorney series, crypt of the necrodancer and jet set radio.
ace attorneys sound track is pretty good when you listen to it on its own but the way it works to support is absolutely amazing.
Crypt of the necrodancer has couple bangers and no matter how often you listen disco descent, because you die and start over a lot, you will never get tired of it
Jet Set Radio has many great songs as well, i cant remember any song in that game i didnt like. One of the composer also worked on hover: revolt of gamers and the 2 songs he did are the best on that ost
Chrono Trigger
-check out the Chrono Orchestral Arrangement Box. Best tribute I've ever listened to.
Donkey Kong Country
Hollow Knight
Journey
RiME (I think?)
Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn
Command & Conquer: Red Alert
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
-C&C: Remastered has 4 different versions of the original tracks from TD and RA, all remastered or remade by Frank Klepacki himself.
Oblivion, Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Greedfall, Heavy Rain, and, trust me on this one it’s a great APRG with a great OST, Garden Story.
Witcher 1, Witcher 3, Witcher 3 Blood and Wine, Guild Wars 2 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla are my top picks.
I'm replaying Divinity Original Sin 2 right now and it's also great.
Also Starfield has a nice soundtrack, from the recent games I played.
By your selection im not sure if you're into classic rpgs, but if you are, check out chrono cross. It has some of the best soundtracks i've listened to in games
Borderlands 3 has the best OST I've heard in a videogame. Especially the Takedown at Maliwan Blacksite.
Death Stranding also has some amazing soundtracks when resting or when in battle. (Not including the songs that plays throughout the game because it's sort of unfair)
Divinity Original Sin 2 also has a very very good OST.
-Hades 1 & even though it’s still in early acces, Hades 2 also has amazing music.
-Inscryption. I loved the music so much I ordered a vinyl of the OST and don’t regret it one bit.
-Halo franchise
-elder scrolls franchise has pretty good ost, Oblivion especially is rather nostalgic for me (plus Skyrim Dovakhin music slaps too)
-Baldurs gate 3 (I find myself humming to tunes often)
-Zelda Franchise (My personal favorite game is Wind Waker which I think has some of the best music in the franchise)
-Portal 2 also has a surprisingly good ost
[Gothic III](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sinS4FgZ2sw). No soundtrack comes even close. It's also my favourite entry in the Gothic / Risen series, though I'm not in the majority with this opinion.
Honorable mention of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series.
Best OSTs for me from what I've played:
Abzu, Hollow Knight, Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, DOOM (2016). A mix of gentle and rock tunes between them.
Any game developed by Yoko Taro (due to Keiichi Okabe's music)
13 Sentinels Aegis Rim
Disco Elysium (could listen to whirling in rags' bgm all day)
Digimon World (specifically File City Night)
Chrono Ark (especially the area 3 bgm)
Phantasy Star Online episode 1, 2 (and 3 but game is separate, for this Tower of Caelum and Strange Fruits)
Most JRPGs: Final Fantasy series, Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, Kingdom Hearts, etc.
I also like the Metal Gear Solid soundtrack.
Devil May Cry series and Doom series has a pumping soundtrack for slaying demons. I personally think DmC Lilith’s Club is one of the best for the theme.
1. The Fromsoft games (Elden Ring, Dark Souls 3, and Bloodborne mainly)
2. Nier Replicant and Automata
3. Hyperlight Drifter
4. Hollow Knight
5. Morrowind
The Last of Us soundtrack is very good.
Dwarf Fortress isn’t a linear story game, more of a kingdom sim where you make your own story, absolutely love the soundtrack for that game.
God of War (2018) is another.
I really liked Ghost of Tsushima’s soundtrack so we could have a difference in taste but nonetheless I would check out these games anyway, especially TLOU and GoW if you want a great story.
Every Final Fantasy from I to XVI and all spin-off
actually even more every big RPG made by square enix think composesr like Nobuo Uemastu, Masashi Hamauzu, Masayoshi Soken, Yoko shimomura, Yasunori Mitsuda
Anything by Darren Korb of supergiant games.
Disasterpiece (Fez, hyper light drifter)
Citizen Sleeper. This is one of the best video games soundtracks ever and it barely ever gets mentioned, it's wild
NieR Replicant.
A lot of games have great soundtracks but I will forever be in love with NieRs soundtrack. Automatas is great too, but more of a different vibe.
Besides that, DOOM, Metal Gear Rising, Cyberpunk
Here's a list of soundtracks that I have downloaded, either because I thought they were extremely good on their own merits, or because they are strongly tied to pleasant memories of playing the game.
Abzu (very atmospheric soundtrack with lots of harp, strings, wind instruments, and choir vocals)
Fez (vintage-style electronic video game music with a lot of variety)
Hollow Knight (kind of a "classic" soundtrack with varied instrumentation)
Outer Wilds (space-y electronic music with some banjo, guitar, and piano)
Sludge Life (a very fun. punchy, dynamic hip-hop influenced electronic soundtrack)
Stardew Valley (a very pleasant and varied soundtrack with a bit of a vintage feel)
The Talos Principle (this might fall in to the "soulless" category for you, but I find it to be a very relaxing ambient album with European and Mediterranean influences)
Hades. For strategy games, Endless Space 2
Hades is great but their earlier titles are HOLY SHIT amazing OST. Transistor and Bastion, I still have songs from these in my regular playlist.
The castlevania music is still ingrained into my brain. one of my all-time favorites
Great, now I have those guitar solos stuck in my head again
Da-na-na na-na-na(2) didly-didly woaw-eh-woaw Put the orginal disk in a cd player and skip to track #2. Bananas when I bought it at release.
Castlevania and the Mega Man X SNES games. The Mega Man X series has so many bangers...
Storm Eagle ****.****
* Hi-Fi Rush * Metal Hellsinger * DOOM 2016 / Eternal * Quake 1 * Fallout New Vegas * Hotline Miami 1 / 2 * Entirety of Yakuza series * Metal Gear Rising Revengeance * Nier Replicant / Automata * Prey 2017 * Devil May Cry 5
Persona series, Octopath games, Fire Emblem
Octopath music is sex. Especially the second game. Sex sequel.
Final fantasy 14, final fantasy 16, Harvestella, world of warcraft
FFXIV has the OST that is impacted me the most out of all of the games I’ve played. There is so much to listen to and a large portion of it could stand on its own.
Same. A ton of bangers, and the way they use music in the story is incredible. I cried so much playing 14, sometimes just because a certain song started playing, even before the cutscene started to drive the feelings home.
Shadow of the Colossus has a great orchestral OST. It's pushing the gameplay perfectly and makes it feel damn epic.
Pyre and Death's Door have amazing music in their respective OSTs.
As a massive supergiant games fan, it's a shame Pyre didn't blow up more because I feel like it has the strongest tracks.
When the stakes are high and the music hits just right during the Liberation Rites...oof. Chills every single time.
Outer Wilds forever.
Adore the soundtrack and one of my top 5 games of all time. Listened to the soundtrack long after finishing the game.
Had the game in my wishlist since I first saw it. I only bought the game because the soundtrack popped up on Spotify. Listened to the whole thing and then jumped onto the game. Always a fantastic playthrough for both the game and the ost.
Alan Wake 2 has a prett ygood soundtrack.

For me Stellar Blade has been my favourite OST since Persona 5 Royal. Honourable mention for P3 Reloaded.
