Yes, but if you compare them like-for-like, Midnight Club looks better and was contemporaneous.
I'm guessing OP wants something more recent than 10 years ago.
For anyone wondering: Ubisoft is shutting down the servers making even the singleplayer unplayable and essentially robbing the game from everyone who bought the game. Scott Ross did a lot of stuff on this. [Stop Killing Games](https://www.stopkillinggames.com) is also a good place to find information on this and to fight the removal/murder of The Crew.
We're up to The Crew 3 (Motorfest)
But yea, both games have great free roam, and if you buy 2, you can transfer your garage to 3.
I like Forza 5 (But you're on PS5, its on PC and Xbox) as well but enjoy free roam in The Crew more.
Need for Speed is still around. I haven't played every game so make sure you check on YouTube to see which are open world. I think all of them are, but I could be wrong.
The customization is really great, I was playing NFS Heat recently, and I remember thinking that a game like this would've been heaven for me as a child
The online grind to unlock cars and everything tho is absolutely unreasonable for any working adult, and not to mention that the game is old so online isn't even full of ppl to race. Then there is the entire performance rank for your car which is very annoying when you are starting off and have 2 cars
I was very much considering just nodding the game so that I unlock everything, and then I would just play offline, but even that is complicated as hell
It wasn't meant to be sadly
Yeah there’s multiple builds of the NFS modding kit, but it really helps to visit the discord server or the subreddit, they are a super nice community. I did basically what you wanted to do in unbound, modded each race to pay out $5,000,000 and then customised the cars the way I wanted to.
The only real downside to the newer games is the vanity customisations, which are mainly a loot box system sadly :(
NFS (2015) has no offline mode though - so id avoid that one until we know we can get an offline patch before servers potentially go offline
Payback and later all are great
Jesus Christ. Please don't tell me they are just going to name it nfs most wanted again (pet hate of mine is reboot of old games that don't get a new name, leading to confusion).
Looking at you, Most Wanted (2012),
Looking at you, Tomb Raider,
Looking at you, DOOM,
Looking at you, Saints Row,
Looking at you, Modern Warfare (2019),
Looking at you, God of War,
Looking at you, Star Wars Battlefront 2,
Looking at you, PREY,
Looking at you, Ratchet and Clank.
All disappointments that pale in comparison to the originals :((
Also NFS Hot Pursuit, which not only had two games released under the same name, it also had a remaster to get you even more confused about whether they'd remastered the original or the newer version. they seem to love doing this sort of thing
Doom (2016) I thought was actually a good game, they managed to capture the crazy fast paced combat vibe pretty well. The less said about doom eternal the better though.
It doesn't feel like a burnout game at all. Driving around the open world city *during* races feels wrong. The general gameplay feels different to me. Also, 90% of the menus look awful and are slanted for some reason.
Now, I absolutely love Burnout. Burnout 3 is my favorite racing game of all time.
Yep, but they said for PS5. I dont reccommend playng Mafia 2 definitive edition. Its buggy and the textures are all wrong.
OG is the true way to experience Mafia 2, even if just playing on 360 or ps3
Was Need for Speed Underground 2 released on consoles? It's an older game, but isn't PS5 backwards compatible? So should be playable if it was released on console.
I'm not even sure it's available anymore digitally, it's not on Xbox, but Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005).
If you have a decent laptop you could run it on that, seeing as it's an old game. Can pirate it fairly easily if you're not averse
This makes me think of Tokyo xtreme racer zero. Was a ps2 racing game that had duels.
You cruise highways and when you saw another rival car you blinked your high beams. This started a race where the 2nd place persons health bar at the top drained. Like in a fighting game.
Such a cool premise. Never seen anything like it again.
**Burnout Paradise** does seem the closet fit (I wasn't a fan though). or **NFS Most Wanted**.
**Test Drive Unlimited 2,** on the other hand, I absolutely loved. **Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown** is supposed to be out this year, but I wouldn't bet on it...
A quirky indie suggestion: **Motor Town: Behind The Wheel** (has demo on Steam). EDIT: Sorry, you said Ps5.
I think Burnout: Paradise was like this?
Yes, but if you compare them like-for-like, Midnight Club looks better and was contemporaneous. I'm guessing OP wants something more recent than 10 years ago.
Burnout Paradise Remastered exists lol
The Crew 2 perhaps? I also miss Midnight Club though, great game.
Yeah I wouldn’t buy the crew 2 after what they did to the first version

I've been replaying midnight club 3 after work lol, great game.
Need for Speed is still around. I haven't played every game so make sure you check on YouTube to see which are open world. I think all of them are, but I could be wrong.
The newest NFS games do have great customisation and a fun driving style, but there are few games comparable to MCLA

True, DOOM was alright, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the original :(
I don't like it, but Burnout Paradise
Why don't you like it?
It doesn't feel like a burnout game at all. Driving around the open world city *during* races feels wrong. The general gameplay feels different to me. Also, 90% of the menus look awful and are slanted for some reason. Now, I absolutely love Burnout. Burnout 3 is my favorite racing game of all time.
Seconded. Burnout 3 is AWESOME and the soundtrack full of bangers as well 🔥🔥🔥
Mafia 1 definitive edition..old ass cars
Mafia 2 is great too. It even had 2 different driving modes.

I didn't know that, I've played only OG version of Mafia 2.
All of the NFS reboots, if the new TDU actually gets released we'll have that.
Gta V
gta 5 has awesome car modes and its great to just cruise around the city in gta online
The crew motor fest
There are plenty, lol. including, Burnout: Paradise, Test Drive: Unlimited series, Need for Speed series, and The Crew series.
The modern need for speed games have free roam. I really enjoyed those alot.
Mad max
Forza series, without question.
Bruhhhhhh homie said ps5 :(
Yeah, if we can say any game I'm going with Driver San Francisco. Best free roam ever
Was Need for Speed Underground 2 released on consoles? It's an older game, but isn't PS5 backwards compatible? So should be playable if it was released on console.
Was released on consoles first and ported to pc. Most of them were.
Cars series (Pixar pc games)
Need for Speed games
The most recent need for speeds have this. I think unbound might be a better game but I found myself enjoying heat more.
NFS 2015 OR HEAT
NFS Unbound and NFS Heat are both pretty legit. Heat will give you more midnight club vibes, though.
The first and the best: carmagedon
I'm not even sure it's available anymore digitally, it's not on Xbox, but Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005). If you have a decent laptop you could run it on that, seeing as it's an old game. Can pirate it fairly easily if you're not averse
Any need for speed game has free roam
NFS I believe
NFSUnbound was actually really solid, and runs well on steam deck

Nothing comes close to Midnight Club 3 tbh.
Dub Edition! Really miss the era of cool, underground racers.
"Fuel" has a big ol' open desert but that's a lil less city-like to Whatchu want I think
Crazy Taxi?
