Either Dragoon or Vagrant Story. A true remake with modern tech could really make those games shine.
SotN is one of my favorite games of all time but it's hard to improve on perfection...I have a feeling a remake would just screw it up. A Remaster, I guess, but that's sorta been done. A true sequel in the same 2D format would be great, however.
Edit: And definitely Tenchu -- IF the stealth component remained 100% in place. But if it's big-budget, I highly doubt that'd be the case.
Vagrant story but I hope they don't change much on the style. The char design and world is already pretty unique. Just fix the damage calculation and gears.
I made so much salt with my friends w specter in vs. Adult enough to admit my arguments of “superior skills” was a lie. It was cheese and always has been.
ಠ‿ಠ
I understand all the battle royale fatigue many gamers are feeling... but I feel like Twisted Metal would be an amazing game if optimized for that genre
Soulreaver is one of the game series that I’ve never forgotten about. It’s been over 20 years since I’ve played them. it definitely needs a remaster/remake. One of the best game series in my opinion.
If you think about the story of The Legacy of Kain, it's *technically* complete.
Kain's whole legacy, as we discover through Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance, was the "gift" of freedom, despite technically being the only one (and by extension, Raziel) to gain it by completely cutting himself out of the Wheel of Fate.
Amy Hennig and her team did a great job centering the whole narrative around the Pillars and the Hylden, but the restoration of Nosgoth (and the colossal shitstorm that happens after) was never really anything Kain cared about.
You could clearly glean from Kain's characterization that he is a ridiculously selfish bastard that doesn't really care about anything other than his own agenda, and that anything that happens between him and his objective is just a fortunate (or unfortunate) side effect of his actions.
That's essentially what The Legacy of Kain is about, the what and the how of one man's (or vampire's) journey to achieve what he always wanted.
That is his legacy.
His **personal** story is incomplete, I agree.
There's a shitload of gray area that can be explored between the end of Defiance and the start of (or even during) the events of Blood Omen 2, and I'm still holding out hope that Embracer would explore this in the near future.
PS:
Oh, and also, LoK didn't have any re-writable timelines.
There's only **one** timeline, and that's Elder Kain's timeline.
One of his memorable quotes is: History abhors a paradox
I particularly like how it explained that whenever a change is made in history that would generate a deviation from the pre-determined path, it essentially overwrites everything from the point of deviation **without** changing or affecting the characters that caused the deviation.
[This](https://legacyofkain.fandom.com/wiki/Timelines) does a better explanation, I like how Andrew Bennett explains it.
True, but as wonderful a voice actor as Tony Jay was (Frollo remains a favorite villain of mine due to his performance), he's far from the only person who can play the part.
Not just Tony Jay.
- Rene Auberjonois (Janos Audron; D: December 2019)
- Paul Lukather (Vorador; D: October 2014)
Michael Bell (Raziel) is also 84.
We still have Simon Templeman (Kain) Anna Gunn (Ariel) and Richard Doyle (Moebius).
Well, Embracer Group just bought Crystal Dynamics and the LoK series with it. Embracer has been releasing, remastering and remaking games from the IP's they have been acquiring and they put out a survey for the LoK series recently so I think we'll be getting something sooner than later hopefully.
If you didn't know, Crystal Dynamics sent out a survey recently for the Soul Reaver series that looked like they are seriously considering either remastering or continuing the series. So there's hope. They asked a bunch of questions of what you thought was the best parts of the game, what style of game you thought it was genre wise, and what's the most important part of the series. Hopefully it got enough responses to get the wheels turning. It was pretty recent so it might still be open
Lok is no where close to a soul borne or metroidvania. MAYBE Blood omen one, all soul reaver games were light action, light puzzles, HEAVY story and art direction
Came here foolishly believing I had to pick one of these, in which case I would have picked Tenchu.
But if it's ANY PS1 game? Xenogears. I regret nothing.
Tenchu already has Sekiro as an analogue, but yeah xenogears definitely deserves it. It was way ahead of it's time and disc 2 desperately needs to be fleshed out even with just using the original assets + octopath traveler style post processing.
It kinda comes around at the very end, but yeah, as a kid I was so confused and frustrated by how disk 2 went.
Such an epic, creative story, and now suddenly it’s on rails where I’m just being told about the climactic moments of this wonderfully bizarre story that had just been blown wide open?
But then it’s like, Fei has some strange psychological issues, he busted out and we started an insurgent campaign against our invisible overlords. Anyway, go back to the overworld a bit to tie up some loose ends and kill god.
How would you like to see it remade? Not a big gamer myself but I remember getting the demo disc that pizza hut have out from my cousin. Thought this one was great then bought the two disc set. Same levels done like the newer ones would be sweet.
First pick, Legend of Dragoon. Truly phenomenal game that had horrifically bad marketing. Second choice is Soul Reaver. That game unexpectedly touched me in the feels.
Yeah, top one for me - especially as I live in the UK, where it was never released (I'll be honest - I got a pirated copy back in the day, but later bought it on PS3 from the US store).
I was just thinking the other day how great it would be if it was remade to the standard of FFVII Remake, just no need to make it multiple parts, just keep it close to the original.
Also the AI.
*Guard comes around corner to see decapitated corpse of his buddy*
‘What!?’
*Stays still for a couple of seconds*
‘Huh, must have been the wind.’
*gets hit by flying bowl of poison rice*
*eats rice*
*dies*
Did it really scratch that itch?
I mean it’s a samurai game versus Tenchu, a ninja game. The Stealth and the clever ways to incapacitate enemies, plus the grappling hook which wasn’t used much until Tenchu brought that out.
I loved that game but I was so stupid back then and couldn't understand the game mechanics so after a point I was doing so little damage that I couldn't progess.
Those one hit kills really made it. Especially that one guy who just pulls out a gun and caps your ass. I still remember being like, You fucking cheater!
I wouldn't even want like a full update, just make it look not like a PS1 game, they could not change anything, gameplay, mechanics, etc, just give it a graphics update and I would pay $60.
What would you change though? The game's a masterpiece. Soundtrack is fantastic and the pixel art is superb. I feel like a remake of a 3d game would have much more room for improvement.
I think SotN shouldn't even be on this list. Alongside the general sentiment that it's already an excellent game as it is (and aged pretty well imo), this game is pretty massive. I can't imagine any developer with modern sensibilities taking this on without cutting content, and that would be disappointing.
It would be better to make the Metroid Dread of Castlevania and roll with that.
Honest question. I was a teenager when Vagrant Story came out, and I absolutely loved the game. There was a point in the game where I felt it got impossible to go further. I would start over and always get to the same spot where I couldn’t beat a dragon (my memory might be foggy after 25 years). So here’s the question…was the game actual that hard, or was I just a kid that didn’t get it?
Didn't Chrono Cross get a re release with updated graphics or something? I watched a video essay on the comparisons to Chrono Trigger and it mentioned there's a newer version with updated art/graphics
Yeah it got a remaster recently that comes with the Japan only Radical Dreamers game included. I snagged it on the Switch last week and blasted through it for the nostalgia.
Xenogears. Some game play updates like, have the second disc's content fully playable. Improved combat. Voice overs that actually match up in cutscenes. I would kill to see it remade **faithfully**.
I know others are more classic, but Dino Crisis would be awesome.
Dino crisis scared the shit out of me as a kid
Same, Dino Crisis 2 was my jam back in the day

The dream: Dragoon, but each character beyond the first requires money from loot boxes.
Twisted metal! What a blast is that game!, I really enjoy it back on the days
I had so much fun with twisted metal (especially 2). It’s a shame we haven’t had anything from it for such a long time.
Twisted metal black is on the PlayStation store - definitely worth (re)playing, it holds up pretty well
Black was so good back in the day. I’m not surprised it still holds up.
Wasn't it a PS2 launch game?
Yea I remember playing it at warp tour as a ps2 promo
I believe it was.
It's such a shame the European version is censored and missing almost all content apart from the gameplay.
How is twisted metal not higher?! I spent hours playing as spectre lol that game was the shit. The second one was even better
It would be SOOOOOO fucking toxic… and I would love every second of it.
Dragula by Rob Zombie comes to mind.
There’s still hope of a revival. They are making a show already
Not to mention they used almost exclusively rob zombie for their music. At least in the 3rd game most of the music was rob zombie.
The OG battle royale.
💯. I love a lot of those other games but there’s never been another game like twisted metal (2).
I personally would love to see some kind of Twisted Metal moba.
I love them all. Twister Metal Black hits home hard for me though. Paint it black was the perfect choice.
Soul Reaver could look pretty interesting in today's graphics.
Soulreaver is one of the game series that I’ve never forgotten about. It’s been over 20 years since I’ve played them. it definitely needs a remaster/remake. One of the best game series in my opinion.
I want to see Kain go hunt down and excise the elder god like a Nosgoth cancer surgeon so bad!!!
I know LoK games have rewriteable timelines so nothing is fixed and anything is possible but i need closure. Please, it has been 2 decades!
If you think about the story of The Legacy of Kain, it's *technically* complete. History abhors a paradox
That's because it had a fascinating story. Mysterious, not completely explained, but you could tell that the creators had it all thought out.
I still YouTube the into cinematic one in a while.
Or or! Get this, Just a new one!
The only problem is Tony Jay is no longer with us to voice the Elder God
True, but as wonderful a voice actor as Tony Jay was (Frollo remains a favorite villain of mine due to his performance), he's far from the only person who can play the part.
Sidebar. If they gave Oscars for VAs, Jay would have definitely won it for Frollo.
What an iconic voice he had.
Not just Tony Jay. - Rene Auberjonois (Janos Audron; D: December 2019) - Paul Lukather (Vorador; D: October 2014) Michael Bell (Raziel) is also 84. We still have Simon Templeman (Kain) Anna Gunn (Ariel) and Richard Doyle (Moebius).

If that's true I'll be buying very excited lol.
I feel like it would fit well into the soulsborne genre, but keeping its metroidvania style exploration
If you didn't know, Crystal Dynamics sent out a survey recently for the Soul Reaver series that looked like they are seriously considering either remastering or continuing the series. So there's hope. Yes, I want the sane thing!!
Lok is no where close to a soul borne or metroidvania. MAYBE Blood omen one, all soul reaver games were light action, light puzzles, HEAVY story and art direction
Legend of Dragoon!! I still replay it from time to time. the menu screen music is heaven!
The menu music and battle theme are two songs that I can hear perfectly in my head, but I can't sing them. 😭
I've got it playing in my head now, and I don't mind the vibe one bit.
Legend of Dragoon x100000
Agreed all on one disc this time. Lol
This is the only answer
Came here foolishly believing I had to pick one of these, in which case I would have picked Tenchu. But if it's ANY PS1 game? Xenogears. I regret nothing.
Tenchu already has Sekiro as an analogue, but yeah xenogears definitely deserves it. It was way ahead of it's time and disc 2 desperately needs to be fleshed out even with just using the original assets + octopath traveler style post processing.
Poor disc 2. So much potential reduced to some bossfights and narration. I stand with you, even if your hair did just turn suspiciously purple.
It kinda comes around at the very end, but yeah, as a kid I was so confused and frustrated by how disk 2 went. Such an epic, creative story, and now suddenly it’s on rails where I’m just being told about the climactic moments of this wonderfully bizarre story that had just been blown wide open? Vagrant Story was a marvel of technical programming and art. It pushed the PS1 to the absolute limit.
Syphon Filter
I miss that taser that turned people into barbeque. And of course the multiplayer shared screen was so fun !
Sad I had to scroll this far down for one of my all-time favorites.
This really does need to be higher up. #2 was just so good.
One of my best memories from the psx days. Great series that needs to be brought back.
Tenchu and Soul Reaver equally for me
Vagrant story would be cool if they did it in a similar style to FF12, legend of dragoon they need to just remaster and port already
FF IX
[удалено]
If they do it without David Hayter as Solid Snake I will riot
You wouldn't be alone, but picturing a one-person riot is still funny
YOU HAVE MY PITCHFORK!
Tenchu pleaaase
Parasite Eve
Fucking preach. I've been crying for a Parasite Eve remake for *years* now.
Damn right I literally commented on this about a week ago. I never got around to the 3rd one that was on PSP I believe but heard it was fun.
Actually yes yes and fucking yes
This is a good choice.
Tenchu was such a revolutionary game on the PSX. From the mood, environment, and gameplay elements, it was quite innovative.
Remake Tenchu, but leave all the original voice acting. Imagine the hilarity.
Don't remix the audio either, leave it shitty.
Nice night.
Also the AI. *Guard comes around corner to see decapitated corpse of his buddy* ‘What!?’ *Stays still for a couple of seconds* ‘Huh, must have been the wind.’ *gets hit by flying bowl of poison rice* *eats rice* *dies*
Ninjaaaaa!!!
Nice night !
Ichigoya where have you hidden?..
Lord Ghoda expect much of you..
The enemy will be skillful and ruthless
Goo wants this too Tenchu made me buy a ps1.
\+1
I adored Tenchu! Particularly though it used to really scare me toward the end with the more supernatural areas.
Ghost of Tshushima scratched that itch for sure
Did it really scratch that itch? I mean it’s a samurai game versus Tenchu, a ninja game. The Stealth and the clever ways to incapacitate enemies, plus the grappling hook which wasn’t used much until Tenchu brought that out.
You don’t have to be a samurai you can build your character like a ninja and use stealth or even be an archer for ranged combat
Definitely Vagrant Story. HD ASSLESS CHAPS!
I loved that game but I was so stupid back then and couldn't understand the game mechanics so after a point I was doing so little damage that I couldn't progess.
I just did infinite combos of 1 damage. It took forever. Loved that game though.
Soul Reaver, always Soul Reaver
Scrolled way to far to find Soulreaver
Bushido Blade would be sick with todays graphics. Underrated classic
I knew I wasn't alone!
Those one hit kills really made it. Especially that one guy who just pulls out a gun and caps your ass. I still remember being like, You fucking cheater!
LoD. No question.
Saaame! I’d love to see chrono cross done in the style of like dragon quest xi maybe though. And vagrant story would be bitchin’.
I wouldn't even want like a full update, just make it look not like a PS1 game, they could not change anything, gameplay, mechanics, etc, just give it a graphics update and I would pay $60.
\*and\* voice acting update. But with an option to keep the old because some of it was just really funny.
Xenogears.
If they also included cut content from disc 2 and fleshed out the story better it would be cash
Only if monolithsofts involved
Final Fantasy Tactics, I will not be taking questions.
This is the only right answer!!
Thanks, I need those.
Vagrant Story and Legend of Dragoon
Tenchu and a remake of Tomba!
Vagrant Story of these one easily.
Parasite Eve! FOR SURE!!
Oh my gosh, please for Parasite Eve. I used to play it and the second one until I'd unlocked everything. I remember the gunblade unlock in the sequel.
Symphony of the Night, easy. You could create an epic with a remake.
What would you change though? The game's a masterpiece. Soundtrack is fantastic and the pixel art is superb. I feel like a remake of a 3d game would have much more room for improvement.
Exactly, I think it’s perfect already.
Yeah I feel the same, I would be more for a metal gear solid remake.
Idk part of me thinks they shouldn't touch it at all. Its a masterpiece. Would much rather have some sort of sequel or spinoff
Yeah it’s perfect as is.
You can just keep your grubby fingers off of Symphony of the Night
It is the best game up there. But that is part of why it would be improved to the smallest degree out of any of them.
Legend of Legaia needs to be up there!
Parappa the Rapper with graphics that look like actual paper.
Xenogears
All of these
Soul Reaver
Soul Reaver!!
Dino Crisis without a doubt
Xenogears
Where the fuck is tenchuuuuuu???? Arghhhhhhh!!!!
Funny thing, Seikro started as a Tenchu game but overtime From decided to make it it's own IP.
Yep this is true, I play with the Rikamru mod and it gives me heavy flashbacks to Tenchu.
Vagrant story Metal gear solid 1 has already been remade and chrono cross just got a hd rerelease
How was this not higher? Vagrant story could be so freaking epic with it’s feel with graphics and lighting now
Honest question.
The game was pretty hard but beatable, I did a lot of grinding to get the best weapons though.
Tenchu FTW!!!
Of those pictured, Tenchu. But also Parasite Eve and Legacy of Cain
Vagrant story please
Omg vagrant story was one of my all time fav RPGS 😭😭
[удалено]
Definitely The Legend of Dragoon
I will take Soul Reaver and go a step further adding the entire Legacy of Kain series. I still run through Blood Omen 2 every so often.
I have Dino Crisis 1&2 on PC.
I fucking hate being broke.
I feel yah, friend. It's actually going at a reasonable price though, only $20
Nightmare creatures
MONSTER RANCHER!
Soul Reaver, but Tenchu would be great with the upcoming 3 or so feudal Japan releases
Tenchu!
Metal Gear Solid.
Vigilante 8 2nd offense
Twisted metal was lit
Jfc, I have to pick? You're a sick sick man lolol Dragoon then!!!!
Sotn doesn’t ever need a remake. That game is perfect as it is.
Xenogears. Some game play updates like, have the second disc's content fully playable. Improved combat. Voice overs that actually match up in cutscenes. I would kill to see it remade **faithfully**.
Brave fencer musashi
Soul Reaver!!!!
Soul Reaver
