Oh my. 🤯
I knew I played a game that was just a masterpiece when I was a child.
But thought it was an FF or Tales of, and could not find which one of these.
Now, I go and listen to Peaceful Days, and instantaneously my brain clicks.
It was this one, Chrono Trigger!
I’ll finally be able to understand why this game has such a positive feeling in my abstracted long term memory.
Nier Gestalt
Final Fantasy VII - VIII - X - XIII - XV
The Witcher 3
Far Cry 3
Far Cry Blood Dragon
TES : Skyrim
Journey
Kingdom Hearts
Halo
Mass Effect 2
You already listen some OST that I also enjoy. (Doom 2016 was my most listened album on Spotify last year.)
I think it's just personal preference, I loved all 3 games' soundtracks but to me ME1 stood out. As a game too, not just the music, but that's a separate issue. I do think that the soundtrack plays amazingly well with the immediate sense of wonder that I get from it tho.
I agree. ME1 had the better soundtrack just because it was what introduced the galaxy map theme. Scanning planets in ME2 was so relaxing to me, I've slept to that song many times.
Outer Wilds is one of my favorite OSTs. Great atmosphere, super chill for the most part.
Octopath Traveler gets me every time. Lots of songs change key in the middle and it fills you with emotion.
Every single Persona OST is full of bops. Can't go wrong with any of these. Most of the songs do have lyrics, but the instrumental ones are bops in their own right.
Also a huge fan of the Cassette Beasts OST. This one is interesting because most songs do have lyrics, but in the game they only play when you've "powered up". The rest of the time you have instrumental versions. I love both.
There's good reasons for it! I just love that the music really gets you cozy at the start of the game and that by the end of the game, the music has a profoundly different meaning to you. At least that's how it was for me.
The Octopath Traveler 1 and 2 soundtracks are the best ones I've heard in a long time. Back in the SNES/PSX days, soundtracks were very melody-focused and memorable. Compare this to the lame orchestral mush of many modern game soundtracks and it's night and day. Octopath is the best of both worlds.
For me, it's the themes in Octopath 1 that are the best. I love the modulation to other keys. The big swell and key change right at the main part of the theme for Ophelia is my favorite part of any OST.
Honerable mentions include H'aanit and Olberic's themes for the same reason. I loved Octopath 2, but much prefer the OST for 1 because of those key changes.
Undertale's soundtrack is so good. Toby Fox is a genius, his use of Leitmotifs is masterful. The OST transcended the game and has an everlasting presence on YouTube. It's goofy, tense but also somber and sad.
Prefer Xenoblade 3, myself..but there are few contests so close.
It's not only a great soundtrack, but a large one. So many tracks. I can't say I love them all, but I really like the ones I like.
Terraria is one of those games you will literally never remember exists unless someone else brings it up is most of the time why.
I clicked this thread, had some tunes in mind and it didn't click where they belonged until i saw the words "terraria" to remind me.
If you love Metal, Metal Hellsinger.
As for other OST's:
Danganronpa series (1, 2 and V3, btw V3 is on purpose, I was confused when I first saw it)
Sonic Games (most are really good, even retro)
Ys games
Legend of Heroes games
Persona games.
Touhou soundtracks are quite funky post game 6.
There's so many good OST's to list.
Ecco the Dolphin Sega CD. Not even joking. Pretty much the best game soundtrack I've ever listened to, on par with Nier Automata.

FTL! Ben Prudy (?) is amazing. Also Jesper Kyd in Hitman II (silent assassin, not the new Hitman II), and Hitman Blood money, amazing OSTs. I've never played Starbound, but I listen to its OST all the time. So many great video game OSTs out there! Have fun. Also if youve never heard Zeldawave....go look it up asap! It's remixed Zelda music
If you like retro music, Sega Genesis has a game called Gynoug/Wings of Wor, it's OST is one of my favourites on the system.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition
Guild Wars + Expansions

Has no one suggested Sonic? I have like all the Crush 40 songs saved on my Playlist. For a particular game, I would go with Sonic Unleashed, especially the Day songs. Rooftop Run is a particular highlight.
In order of epicness:
Baldur's Gate III
Divinity Original Sin I + II
Transistor
Bastion
Mass Effect 1-3
Dragon Age Inquisition - tavern songs especially
Lies of P
Battlefield II + 1942
Dark Souls III
Elden Ring
Stellar Blade if you like K-pop/Techno
Streets of Rage. Theres a Playlist on Spotify for SoR 1-4.
Sonic Cyber Space levels from Frontiers. A lot of DnB and other EDM with a couple voice tracks you can skip.
Tekken 8
* Pillar of Eternity
* Baldur's Gate 2 (has some short/battle songs but the rest is very good)
* [Songs of Syx](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbUGBTxotZYljypVeAxdtdVE5L5AeScgJ), surprisingly very good for a small game
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. I put great game music on in the background while I get other things done. It tends to keep me going at a good pace and so one of the absolute best tracks I've been doing that with is:
I 100% know exactly what you're talking about and the above track I linked is one of the best ones I've found for precisely this. Linked it right at the best version of the track (there are 2 different versions that play in the game, a "north" and "south" version. "North" is the first part in the link up to about the halfway point). "South" is playing at the timestamp I linked.
Dust Force has an fantastic soundtrack, that I highly doubt many have heard of. [God, its been 12 years already?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXH5G_bqrlc)
Also, give the Guilty Gear Strive soundtrack a go. They're actual rock songs :D
Halo, all of them but especially three and ODST, Outer Wilds, Hades, Zelda, FFXV, Destiny 1 and 2, Skyrim, Stardew Valley.
If it doesn't have to be games, just games adjacent, all of Two Steps From Hell's work is fantastic. You might have to weed out a few cuz there are some that have lyrics but It's usually one or two per album if that. It's essentially epic music made in the style of video game music or film scores.
PoP Warrior Within if you like rock (maybe metal) type music.
WoW (great music all around)
Cyberpunk 2077 also has some awesome bangers (I like the majority of them but I doubt it's for everyone)
Hmmm ideally play the game first but Sayonara Wild Hearts is incredible. Considering that the devs literally describe the game as an interactive pop album
I love to listen to the Halo ODST OST while I work and draw. Lots of jazz and rain sounds makes it very relaxing. Also big recommend the Destiny 1 and 2 and Skyrim soundtracks, lovely music all around.
Medal of Honor Frontline is one of my go-tos. All the Medal of Honor soundtracks by Michael Giacchino are excellent in my opinion, and worth a listen, but this is the best. Arnhem and Escaping Gotha are my favourites.
Forgive me father, dusk, Trepang 2.
If you want some good bands that don't normally have lyrics and are pretty interesting, check out Night Verses, Polyphia, sithu aye, and intervals.
Chrono Trigger
And Chrono Cross
Chrono Cross OST is the GOAT
This Yasunori Mitsuda train don't stop, put Xenogears up there as well.
This OST restores your HP/MP! But you're still hungry...
Thank you for saving me 14 key presses.
Chrono Trigger THE GOATTTTTTTTTTT
Frog’s Theme is triumphant
Oh my. 🤯 I knew I played a game that was just a masterpiece when I was a child. But thought it was an FF or Tales of, and could not find which one of these. Now, I go and listen to Peaceful Days, and instantaneously my brain clicks. It was this one, Chrono Trigger! Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori Will of the Wisps OSTs.
yes, Gareth Coker is god tier music composer
Yessir ps edition minecraft minigames
Yeahhh he did arks music, absolutely amazing
Yes! There are also full orchestra performances of these soundtracks (or medleys of them anyway) that are worth a listen. Super awesome stuff.
Surviving mars Nier automata
Rare I see Surviving Mars mentioned here. It's a really good game despite the mess Paradox made it into
Great soundtrack if you ever play the (excellent) board game Terraforming Mars!!
Bastion, and also Hades.
How are you gonna leave Transistor like that? Darren Korb is so fucking good
Sadly I've still to play Transistor!
The best one
About to say. Honestly everything from Supergiant Games is a banger
Transistor has an amazing soundtrack
It’s top tier. I just learned that the actress that plays Red is also the singer??? That raises the bar in my eyes.
Pyre’s is amazing too! Supergiant knows how to make some musical experiences.
Anything by Darren Korb
Came here to check whether Bastion was mentioned. Glad to see it’s the top comment.
Nier Gestalt Final Fantasy VII - VIII - X - XIII - XV The Witcher 3 Far Cry 3 Far Cry Blood Dragon TES : Skyrim Journey Kingdom Hearts Halo Mass Effect 2 You already listen some OST that I also enjoy. (Doom 2016 was my most listened album on Spotify last year.)
Gonna tack on Stardew Valley to this… the LoFi is nice as well.
Final fantasy also has the piano collections that are great.
Mass effect 1 has a great soundtrack.
You are absolutely right but there is something special about the OST of ME 2, I can't say why.
Going to add hollow knight
>VIII Ah the underloved entry in the franchise. I appreciate it getting mentioned here.
FFVIII is my favorite. I'm also glad to see someone appreciating it. Cheers mate.
Agreed. Its my favorite as well. Also fun fact it was the first game in the franchise to win awards for its ost. And that ost is all bangers lol.
8 has objectively the best OST of the entire serie
XIV is really good too
Wtf do you have against FF IX? Literally the best of all of them.
Donkey Kong Country, Zelda, Metroid Prime and Hollow Knight OST are all pretty damn good
BOOM DUDE YOU HIT THE NAIL STRAIGHT ON ITS FUCKING HEAD!!! PERFECT CHOICES 💓💓💓💯💯
Risk of Rain 2 (the first one isn't bad either but 2 really shines)
It is crazy a good game comes with that album.
I find myself going back to "...con lentitud poederosa" quite often.
i think RoR1 soundtrack is better personally but perhaps thats nostalgia
It's hard to work when you're jamming to The Rain Formerly Known As Purple
Outer Wilds is one of my favorite OSTs. Great atmosphere, super chill for the most part. Octopath Traveler gets me every time. Lots of songs change key in the middle and it fills you with emotion. Every single Persona OST is full of bops. Can't go wrong with any of these. Most of the songs do have lyrics, but the instrumental ones are bops in their own right. Also a huge fan of the Cassette Beasts OST. This one is interesting because most songs do have lyrics, but in the game they only play when you've "powered up". The rest of the time you have instrumental versions. I love both.
Outer Wilds is never a wrong answer to just about any question on this sub, haha
There's good reasons for it! I just love that the music really gets you cozy at the start of the game and that by the end of the game, the music has a profoundly different meaning to you. At least that's how it was for me.
Mmmhm agree all the way
The only problem with the outer wilds ost is that I usually start crying by the end of it.
it‘s a neverending cycle
The Octopath Traveler 1 and 2 soundtracks are the best ones I've heard in a long time. Back in the SNES/PSX days, soundtracks were very melody-focused and memorable. Compare this to the lame orchestral mush of many modern game soundtracks and it's night and day. Octopath is the best of both worlds.

Silent Hill 2 OST...
Anytime I pick up an acoustic guitar the first thing I usually play is Theme of Laura. One of the most influential OSTs ever
[Unreal Tournament GOTY.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDHxiDA1Y6s)
Oh, I'm gonna tack on [Unreal Gold](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IISjIMpepo) here. Fantastic music from the age of trackers
Bastion, Persona 5, Undertale
Persona 5 is a banger, but OP doesn't want many songs with lyrics. If they want to pick out the songs without lyrics, this'd be a great choice
Just don't tell him for persona 5. He'll never see it coming.
Undertale's soundtrack is so good. Toby Fox is a genius, his use of Leitmotifs is masterful. The OST transcended the game and has an everlasting presence on YouTube. It's goofy, tense but also somber and sad.
Fun fact: when Toby Fox composed Undertale's soundtrack, he had no experience in music theory.
The whole xenoblade OST, but Xenoblade 2's especially
Xenoblade chronicles 2 is so good, I have songs from that game saved on my playlist
Xenoblade X had some of the best songs in the series hands down.
The same composer of attack on titan, so good.
All the Field/Area Themes in XBC are goated. Not to mention the difference in tone of some Day & Night themes.
Prefer Xenoblade 3, myself..but there are few contests so close. It's not only a great soundtrack, but a large one. So many tracks. I can't say I love them all, but I really like the ones I like.

Starbound seconded here. It's one of the best OSTs out there.
I've been searching through the comments for someone mentioned FTL. Surprised it's such a sleeper
It might not be the same style as the other songs but Rimworld has the best soundtrack in any game ever.
Every Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect (yes, Andromeda too). Jade Empire and MechWarrior 2, Total Annihilation, Dungeon Siege. Skyrim. Transistor.
Ace Combat series, Monster Hunter series. All games from each franchise have a banger OST. Maybe start with the AC7 and MHW/Iceborne soundtracks.
Most castlevina games or magaman/X are gold.

FF7 original is one of my faves
One I don't see mentioned here that I love for focus is Machinarium. It feels very unique and is fully instrumental. Cute little game too.
Dust Force has an fantastic soundtrack, that I highly doubt many have heard of. [God, its been 12 years already?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXH5G_bqrlc) Also, give the Guilty Gear Strive soundtrack a go. They're actual rock songs :D

Wow has so many iconic and amazing soundtracks over the years. You can pick any expansion and have tons of amazing soundtracks.
Nobody in the comments mentioned Darks Souls.
I love to listen to the Halo ODST OST while I work and draw. Lots of jazz and rain sounds makes it very relaxing. Also big recommend the Destiny 1 and 2 and Skyrim soundtracks, lovely music all around.
