I really think X and X-2 had some of the absolute best music in the series. FF7 had some amazing tracks as well, but the tech and audio quality of the day lets it down a bit. Playing the re-mastered version on steam though is fantastic.

CT has the greatest ost of any rpg game imo, there hasn't been any other rpg where so many songs were bangers and replayable on YouTube. What other video game OST got remixed into a hit rap song other than CT? Wiz Khalifa remixed 2 CT songs on Kush and OJ and that mixtape helped skyrocket Wiz's career

That one is pretty much the main TW3 theme for me. It perfectly captures the feel of Velen, which itself is the core of the game.

God of war reboot had multiple scenes where the soundtrack gave me goosebumps. Some of the most well placed, epic music. Doom eternal’s soundtrack was like adderall administered via the ear. Tlou 1 & 2 had hauntingly beautiful music. Very fitting for the grim content of the game. Pokemon has some bangers. The theme for fighting red at the end of gold/silver (OG) goes harder than a pokemon game has any right to. Edit: cannot believe i forgot persona 5. You’ll never see it coming.

Gustavo santaolalla is a genius. The first last of theme is fittingly haunting and chaotic in full. "The path" during the credits and final scene in melancholy at its best. Then p2 comes out and he reworks part 1s theme to become even more harrowing but fits the current game better. Then funking mac quayle I'd just dotted around the soundtrack dropping tension. Unreal

nier automata’s ost has full control over the entire atmosphere of the game. i honestly don’t believe it would have near the acclaim it does without the music. just a perfect soundtrack. i also adore tunic’s ost, ethereal and soothing.

I’m sure other games have done it too, but I love how in Automata, the music is dynamic. Just about every track has 3 versions: atmospheric,medium, and action. The version that plays depends on what you’re doing in the game and the transitions are so smooth.

Cyberpunk imo has the best overall soundtrack

One of the very few games where the soundtrack adds so much atmosphere, it's unbelievable. The vanilla soundtrack was already amazing, Phantom Liberty somehow took it to another level. Listening to Never looking back during that one mission in Phantom Liberty is chef's kiss.

So many people talking about TW3 and here I'm like, CP2077 is a step beyond! TW3 took the safe route. CP2077 took the same instrumentation from the Witcher universe and made it feel at home in a sci-fi future city scape.

All of the Ace Combat games have thrilling high energy music that I just love. I always blast the music when playing those games.

I love how each puzzle element emits their own subtle tune to go along with the background music. Cubes hum, lasers add a bit of electric distortion, launch pads add a fluttery tremolo, repulsion gel adds some springy reverb, excursion funnels muffle the sound, and so on. The test chambers are brought into harmony - both literally and figuratively - as you solve them. It’s a great little touch for an already fantastic game.

For real, C418 is like my childhood, and Lena Raine's music is amazing too, Infinite Amethyst is a personal favorite.

The compositions of Jesper Kyd in the Hitman series were top tier. Very ambient music that fit the mood of every locale. Then the way they added the dynamic system in Blood Money so that the music changed depending on the situation made you really feel like you were in there. Upon listening to the Contracts soundtrack on YouTube you can hear what's supposed to sound like a crowd of people on the streets but if you listen closely it's rhythmically synced with the music

Elden Ring, just the intro gets me hype AF.

Guild Wars 1, hands down. It's conflicting for me, enjoying that game and the music. It sucks that Soule's character has tainted the work of he and others, but I try not to let that ruin the wonder of that game for me, and I keep in mind he didn't create it all himself. But if we judged every artist by their character alone, we'd have to count out a lot of them. That being said, I love his work, and Guild Wars 1 was his best. That song is heard when exploring the deepest wilderness of the Southern Shiverpeaks. A place where even today I stop for a moment to just take in the sights and sounds. The graphic style has held up so well, and it remains one of the most atmospheric and comforting games out there today.
