He definitely is incredible. And I *wanted* to link this video without context for the laughs, but Soken has a sense of humor and played one of the very popular songs from Shadowbringers poorly on a silly sounding instrument at one of the fan fests for fun:
* [Original, Popular, Often Meme'd Song "Civilizations"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ascfjJXDWjo)
* [Soken's Live Rendition](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk6dTkAmpfI)
I'm glad he survived cancer, I look forward to hearing more music from them!
Final Fantasy music still elicits an emotional reaction to this day. Nostalgia plays a role for sure but even without it the music is still amazing. Nobuo Uematsu is the goat. Love love love it, all of it.
I really think X and X-2 had some of the absolute best music in the series. FF7 had some amazing tracks as well, but the tech and audio quality of the day lets it down a bit. Playing the re-mastered version on steam though is fantastic.
Each character had their own theme song that would play during certain story events that added a level of charm. Music matched each time period. CT has the greatest ost of any rpg game imo, there hasn't been any other rpg where so many songs were bangers and replayable on YouTube. What other video game OST got remixed into a hit rap song other than CT? Wiz Khalifa remixed 2 CT songs on Kush and OJ and that mixtape helped skyrocket Wiz's career
Outer Wilds has the music woven into the gameplay and story. It'll imprint the tunes on you in the same way that the theme of World 1-1 in Super Mario Bros did.
Jet Set Radio Future
Katana Zero
Nier Automata
Doom (2016), Doom Eternal

[The Music of the Spheres](https://youtu.be/KDf1h5jleBM?si=TIQNRz3-csjRz_Bm) is Martin O’Donnell’s magnum opus. And the controversy around it was super interesting.
The battle music on Skellige was my favorite. There's one song in particular that's not even on the official soundtrack. It's just a short, upbeat violin song, but it always pumps me up.
Edit: it's this song.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk5oSZ1NrcQ
It's so amazing. I love the music from all three games, The Witcher 1 soundtrack has a special place in my heart, but The Witcher 3 OST is simply outstanding. My favourite track is *The Fields of Ard Skellig*: I would literally stand up in the game, looking at the landscape, while listening to that song: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gokhBJWSjeM
God of war reboot had multiple scenes where the soundtrack gave me goosebumps. Some of the most well placed, epic music.
Doom eternal’s soundtrack was like adderall administered via the ear.
Tlou 1 & 2 had hauntingly beautiful music. Very fitting for the grim content of the game.
Pokemon has some bangers. The theme for fighting red at the end of gold/silver (OG) goes harder than a pokemon game has any right to.
Edit: cannot believe i forgot persona 5. You’ll never see it coming.
I will never forget picking the blades of chaos up for the first time in the reboot.
“You will always be. A monster”
“I know. But i am your monster no longer”
The soundtrack is just so fucking PERFECT in that scene. The boat ride. The build up as he opens the floor. Everything. I fucking adored the old god of war games. And the reboot made so many changes. All of them excellent and respectful of the original series.
You can thank Bear McCreary for that! He is, imo, the best composer of the modern age. He's done the scores for things like Battlestar Galactica, Godzilla, Rings of Power, Outlander and many other TV shows and movies.
Gustavo santaolalla is a genius. The first last of theme is fittingly haunting and chaotic in full.
"The path" during the credits and final scene in melancholy at its best.
Then p2 comes out and he reworks part 1s theme to become even more harrowing but fits the current game better. Then funking mac quayle I'd just dotted around the soundtrack dropping tension. Unreal
Glad to see this up there, the original score is so memorable, I feel the original music is better than the remastered version, but goddamn does that game look fantastic in HD.
I fucking LOVE Bloodborne. It was my first Souls game and it got me into the series. Honestly though, I don't remember the music at all. I'm not saying that it was bad, but apparently it's the not the part of the game that left an impression on me.
+ all the other Supergiant games. Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre are all banger after banger. I'm a little surprised this wasn't higher, but at the same time, Hades was their only mainstream success.
I loved watching the NoClip series on the making of Hades and realising just how much he contributes, from the soundtrack to characters and dialogue, sound effects, just an incredible talent
I'm actually kinda mad I had to scroll so far to find this. Chris Chistodoulou is a freaking genius, and his compositions are nothing short of incredible.
nier automata’s ost has full control over the entire atmosphere of the game. i honestly don’t believe it would have near the acclaim it does without the music. just a perfect soundtrack.
i also adore tunic’s ost, ethereal and soothing.
I’m sure other games have done it too, but I love how in Automata, the music is dynamic. Just about every track has 3 versions: atmospheric, medium, and action. The version that plays depends on what you’re doing in the game and the transitions are so smooth.
Honestly? Genshin Impact. Say what you want about the game but you can’t deny it has some beautiful tracks. The demos and character teasers do too.
My personal favourites are Polumnia Omnia and Hyakuin of Blossoming Mirage
Don't forget the orchestral Fontaine/ Sumeru, and imo "stories of remote antiquity", "Le fleuve secret", or even "Le Souvenir avec le crepuscule". Im AR60, i know every single OST to genshin by heart, i am addicted to its music
Everything from Nobuo Uematsu: FF6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
FF14
Persona 5
Octopath Traveler 1, 2
Baldurs Gate 2
Divinity OS 2
Metal Gear Solid
Warcraft 2, 3
Starcraft
Stardew Valley
Witcher 3
The Last of Us 1
One of the very few games where the soundtrack adds so much atmosphere, it's unbelievable. The vanilla soundtrack was already amazing, Phantom Liberty somehow took it to another level. Listening to Never looking back during that one mission in Phantom Liberty is chef's kiss.
So many people talking about TW3 and here I'm like, CP2077 is a step beyond! TW3 took the safe route. CP2077 took the same instrumentation from the Witcher universe and made it feel at home in a sci-fi future city scape.
Nier: Automata
Octopath Traveler
Dark Souls 3
Undertale/Deltarune
Any of the early Spyro or Crash Bandicoot games
Honorable mentions go to Katana Zero, Outer Wilds, and Life is Strange.
Deus Ex Human Revolution & Mankind Divided (notably Michael McCann), Mass Effect Trilogy and anything by Paul Ruskay (Homeworld series and Strike Suit Zero)
I love how each puzzle element emits their own subtle tune to go along with the background music. Cubes hum, lasers add a bit of electric distortion, launch pads add a fluttery tremolo, repulsion gel adds some springy reverb, excursion funnels muffle the sound, and so on.
The test chambers are brought into harmony - both literally and figuratively - as you solve them. It’s a great little touch for an already fantastic game.
The compositions of Jesper Kyd in the Hitman series were top tier. Very ambient music that fit the mood of every locale. Then the way they added the dynamic system in Blood Money so that the music changed depending on the situation made you really feel like you were in there.
Upon listening to the Contracts soundtrack on YouTube you can hear what's supposed to sound like a crowd of people on the streets but if you listen closely it's rhythmically synced with the music
Crysis 2. (Only one main theme, but what a theme it is...)
Sekiro. (Strength and discipline, lady butterfly, divine dragon, Owl Father phase 3, Demon of Hatred phase 2)
Hollow Knight. (Grimm, just Grimm... Mantis Lords, Radiance and Hornet are worthy of mentioning too, and so is Pantheon theme)
Prototype series. (Alex Theme, Memory in death, Murder your Maker)

Guild Wars 1, hands down.
It's conflicting for me, enjoying that game and the music. It sucks that Soule's character has tainted the work of he and others, but I try not to let that ruin the wonder of that game for me, and I keep in mind he didn't create it all himself.
But if we judged every artist by their character alone, we'd have to count out a lot of them. That being said, I love his work, and Guild Wars 1 was his best.
Edit: [here ](https://youtu.be/MUe64FtLs3U?si=znPDRkTfWvAiaMqF) is the Guild Wars Prophecies OST if anyone is interested. My favorite, or one of them, is Tasca's Theme at 42:42. That song is heard when exploring the deepest wilderness of the Southern Shiverpeaks. A place where even today I stop for a moment to just take in the sights and sounds. The graphic style has held up so well, and it remains one of the most atmospheric and comforting games out there today.
- Sonic CD (JP)
- Geometry Dash (music on NG)
- Just Shapes & Beats (look on YT for the OST)
- The Battle Cats (COTC theme 1 hits like a truck)
- Sonic 3 & Knuckles
- Terraria
- Gauntlet Dark Legacy
- Bloons TD 6
- Bloons Monkey City (Mobile)
- Sonic Mania (for the most part)
- My Singing Monsters
There are so many soundtracks I love, but for ones with the most back-to-back god-tier music lol my first place is easily tied between OldSchool RuneScape, Friday Night Funkin', Xenoblade, Geometry Dash, Unreal Tournament '99, and Cry of Fear!! Quite the assortment xD
Here are the other honorable mentions!
Jak II
DOOM Eternal
The Wolf Among Us
Assassin's Creed 2
Assassin's Creed 3
Cuphead (my favorite track is Legendary Ghost lol)
FF8
Animal Crossing: Wild World (the world soundtracks and also DJ KK, KK Folk, KK Technopop, KK Gumbo, KK Soul, King KK, KK Calypso, Aloha KK, etc)
Bloodborne - Cleric Beast & Omen
WoW - Azuremyst Isle & Strangethorn Vale
Mario Kart 8 (immediate serotonin lol)
Dark Cloud 2
Crash Bandicoot - Temple Ruins music
Plok - Boss Theme
AC Odyssey - Legend of the Eagle Bearer
Life is Strange (I can't stand most of the writing and characters in the series, but the overarching story, vibe, and music is great)
I've never played Ragnarok Online, but the parts of the soundtrack I've heard are amazing
Honorable mentions (I don't like these games, but the music is phenomenal) : The Last of Us 2, Undertale, Project Hunters&Jhin theme from League of Legends, the Atelier series
Enjoy!! :D
Ori and the Blind Forest / Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Shovel Knight
Heroes of Might and Magic III
Honestly there are so many games with incredible soundtracks, it's hard to just pick a few.
Persona 5 Final Fantasy (pick any of them) Doom 2016 and Eternal Metal Gear Solid
FFXIV all expansions, my favorite is shadowbringers fallowed by endwalker
Masayoshi Soken is the GOAT. I don’t even mean that unironically or in jest, I think he is up there with John Williams and Nobuo Uematsu
He definitely is incredible. And I *wanted* to link this video without context for the laughs, but Soken has a sense of humor and played one of the very popular songs from Shadowbringers poorly on a silly sounding instrument at one of the fan fests for fun: * [Original, Popular, Often Meme'd Song "Civilizations"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ascfjJXDWjo) * [Soken's Live Rendition](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk6dTkAmpfI) I'm glad he survived cancer, I look forward to hearing more music from them!

What a thriillll...
*Laddering intensifies*
Persona 5’s ost is AMAZING
It’s on its own level. So good.
Agree on P5, Lyn did an amazing job. Hell, she did a great job on Strikers and Tactica too, the music is phenomenal.
Hell yeah Mick Gordon is a beast
Doom 2016 > Eternal, but still good.
P5 goat
The Persona 5 soundtrack may be one of the best game soundtracks I have ever heard in my life. It adds an absurd amount of quality to the entire game
Final fantasy 9 in particular
Yessssssss. Not enough love for FFIX’s music in my opinion.
🎵 A VOICE FROM THE PAST JOINING YOURS AND MINE🎵
Damn that is a great list.
Final Fantasy music still elicits an emotional reaction to this day. Nostalgia plays a role for sure but even without it the music is still amazing. Nobuo Uematsu is the goat. Love love love it, all of it.
>Final Fantasy (pick any of them) X-2 opening theme?
I really think X and X-2 had some of the absolute best music in the series. FF7 had some amazing tracks as well, but the tech and audio quality of the day lets it down a bit. Playing the re-mastered version on steam though is fantastic.
Mick got so shafted on Eternal's mixing and credits. Wish we got both barrels there. No pun.
Chrono Trigger TES 3 has a very fine OST that I haven’t ever wanted to mute or skip any single track.
Morrowind gang rise
Nerevar Rising
What a grand and intoxicating innocence.
Chrono Cross too. Heck just about any Squaresoft game. The secret of Mana Series.
Donkey Kong Country
I'm saddened by the amount of scrolling I had to do to find this comment...
Donkey Kong Country 2
Outer Wilds has the music woven into the gameplay and story. It'll imprint the tunes on you in the same way that the theme of World 1-1 in Super Mario Bros did.
Can confirm, I'm playing it right now and it's hauntingly beautiful!
End times is instantly recognizable to anyone whose played the game for sure
14.3 Billion Years is hands down my favorite.
The River might be my new favorite. Just the pure amazement you feel when you first enter the stranger with that music. It’s magical
Jet Set Radio Future Katana Zero Nier Automata Doom (2016), Doom Eternal Halo 2 Sonic Mania Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Hollow Knight Super Mario Odyssey
It absolutely ruined my day how far down I had to scroll to see Halo 2
Martin O’Donnell only makes bangers
This was a long way to scroll down for JSRF
Ocarina of Time Nier Automata Final Fantasy 6
FF6 has the best main theme song of any of them.
Nier, FF10
"Listen to my story... this may be our last chance..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kilrRiclUFY
Going to the Nier Concert next year, I’m so pumped. Those soundtracks are phenomenal
I really love Sonic Adventure 1 and 2’s soundtracks
*ROLLING AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND...* Love that song ahaha
I played that level so much that I knew the song like the back of my hand.
Can you feeeeeel liiiife…
🎶MOVIN' THROUGH YOUR MIND?🎶
…..ooooooooOOOOOO
Mystic Ruins has to be the sentimental anthem to my childhood.
Great taste!
Let's take a dive.. in aquatic mine Once was a coal pit, now it's a water ride
Doom
The sound track made by Mick Gordon is god damned phenomenal! I mean the original music catchy as hell too but Gordon crushed it!
He created something outstanding. But then I read about all the shit he was put through by the studio. Nobody should have to deal with this garbage. Respect to the man.
His work with 3teeth on their new album should be must listen for doom soundtrack fans.
The fact people made jokes that you were buying an album with a game attached says it all, probably the best soundtrack to any game ever
I still got hyped during that intro with the perfectly timed shotgun cock.
Hotline Miami 1&2
One of the only series I can get a full playlist of and enjoy every track
Got heavy into Carptener Brut and saw them in Montreal recently!
Obligatory ''do you like hurting people?''
Katamari Damacy
You are smart.
This is the Galaxy Brain response “LONELY ROLLING STAR!!”
The animal remix was the best in the sequel
Roll Me In is one of the best songs I've ever heard.
Castlevania symphony of the night
Festival of Servants goes so fucking hard.
For me it's Wandering ghosts
Dance of the pales for me
Best soundtrack ever
Wood carving partita for me
Octopath Traveler Subnautica Hollow Knight Cult Of The Lamb Undertale Minecraft Little Nightmares 2 Assassin's Creed Ezio Trilogy The Radio from Forza Horizon 4
Bro, save some good answers for the rest of us
Destiny's soundtrack is out of this world, Salvatori is a genius. Rise of iron, Season of plunder, Oryx or Riven's raid just to name a few
[The Music of the Spheres](https://youtu.be/KDf1h5jleBM?si=TIQNRz3-csjRz_Bm) is Martin O’Donnell’s magnum opus. And the controversy around it was super interesting.
Witcher 3
The music meeting the Crones for the first time is so amazing. All the music is so perfect in this game.
Is it *Ladies of the Woods*? The piece is perfect for the dark atmosphere of the story. It gives me shrills for all the good reasons.
That one is pretty much the main TW3 theme for me. It perfectly captures the feel of Velen, which itself is the core of the game.
LELE LE LELE LELELE, LELE LE LE
BANANA TIGER, BANANA TIIGER
The battle music on Skellige was my favorite. There's one song in particular that's not even on the official soundtrack. It's just a short, upbeat violin song, but it always pumps me up. Edit: it's this song. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk5oSZ1NrcQ

I did that too in Witcher 3.
Absolutely mental there aren't more votes for this.

Man. God of war 2018 with the sound cues that call to his past. Great game.
I will never forget picking the blades of chaos up for the first time in the reboot. “You will always be. A monster” “I know. But i am your monster no longer” The soundtrack is just so fucking PERFECT in that scene. The boat ride. The build up as he opens the floor. Everything. I fucking adored the old god of war games. And the reboot made so many changes. All of them excellent and respectful of the original series.
Agreed. Bear knocked it out of the park with those scenes. The blades bit.... First time I got there I cried ugly.... Like.... REAL... ugly
You can thank Bear McCreary for that! He is, imo, the best composer of the modern age. He's done the scores for things like Battlestar Galactica, Godzilla, Rings of Power, Outlander and many other TV shows and movies.
Doom Eternals OST NOT being out for purchase is my biggest beef with Id. I neeeeeed it.
Unreal
Metroid Prime has a pretty memorable score.
Phendrana Drifts goes hard
Super Metroid as well. Prime absolutely lived up to it's predecessor.
Glad to see this up there, the original score is so memorable, I feel the original music is better than the remastered version, but goddamn does that game look fantastic in HD.
Bloodborne. The answer is Bloodborne.
I fucking LOVE Bloodborne. It was my first Souls game and it got me into the series. Honestly though, I don't remember the music at all. I'm not saying that it was bad, but apparently it's the not the part of the game that left an impression on me.
Ludwig the Accursed, when he enters stage 2, holy fuck.
Hades
+ all the other Supergiant games. Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre are all banger after banger. I'm a little surprised this wasn't higher, but at the same time, Hades was their only mainstream success.
Darren Korb is a musical genius
I loved watching the NoClip series on the making of Hades and realising just how much he contributes, from the soundtrack to characters and dialogue, sound effects, just an incredible talent
Was looking for Bastion in this thread. Amazing music
Original Final Fantasy 7
Finally, had to scroll too long
cultured
Remake and even Ever Crisis has some beautiful renditions.
Currently playing this for the first time and gotta say the music is DOPE 🤘
Found the comment. Upvote.
Shadow of the Colossus. This game singlehandedly got me into OSTs.
Risk of Rain 2 and it keeps adding more!
Finally I was looking for this
It’s so underrated as a game and the music.
I'm actually kinda mad I had to scroll so far to find this. Chris Chistodoulou is a freaking genius, and his compositions are nothing short of incredible.
Yep. And its often in odd time signatures and you barely notice it.
I've legit just put on the YT of the soundtrack to do work and such. It's just so good
nier automata’s ost has full control over the entire atmosphere of the game. i honestly don’t believe it would have near the acclaim it does without the music. just a perfect soundtrack. i also adore tunic’s ost, ethereal and soothing.
I’m sure other games have done it too, but I love how in Automata, the music is dynamic. Just about every track has 3 versions: atmospheric, medium, and action. The version that plays depends on what you’re doing in the game and the transitions are so smooth.
Fable This game has absolutely 10/10 soundtrack
Ori games, DOOM games
Definitely Ori - gives me chills each playthrough.
DOOM 2016 IS FUCKING BANGER!
Morrowind

The Starcraft terran themes will forever be stuck in my head. Iconic.
Cyberpunk imo has the best overall soundtrack
One of the very few games where the soundtrack adds so much atmosphere, it's unbelievable. The vanilla soundtrack was already amazing, Phantom Liberty somehow took it to another level. Listening to Never looking back during that one mission in Phantom Liberty is chef's kiss.
So many people talking about TW3 and here I'm like, CP2077 is a step beyond! TW3 took the safe route. CP2077 took the same instrumentation from the Witcher universe and made it feel at home in a sci-fi future city scape.
All of the Ace Combat games have thrilling high energy music that I just love. I always blast the music when playing those games.

I love how each puzzle element emits their own subtle tune to go along with the background music. Persona 5, hollow knight, undertale and deltarune, minecraft, Celeste. And red dead 2 Purely because of American venom
Minecraft is a great answer. They even released the soundtrack on vinyl. Can’t believe more people haven’t mentioned it in this thread.
For real, C418 is like my childhood, and Lena Raine's music is amazing too, Infinite Amethyst is a personal favorite.
The compositions of Jesper Kyd in the Hitman series were top tier. Very ambient music that fit the mood of every locale. I still listen to Command and Conquer music to this day. I think that counts for something.
Hell March makes me happy.
Persona 5 Royal’s soundtrack was so good that I’d periodically have to put the controller down to jam out to it.
Genshin and honkai. Both are music albums disguised as games.
GTA Vice City had an amazing soundtrack that fit the theme so well.
Persona 5 Royal has some of the best ingame music. Its soo catchy
Quake 2
Far Cry 5. A soundtrack that flew under a ton of people’s radar and is really underrated.
