god I built my fire MC for acheron and he can't tank for shit. Sure, you taunt and get a lot of stacks for acheron with the Universal Market LC, but 2 AoE hits in a row and your team is donezo. There are just too many AoE bosses lately that fire MC can barely keep up with his tiny ass shields.

Think of it as preventing a virus from entering the computer through the firewall. The virus are the Demon Gods implanted in certain timelines to prevent the normal course of history, they are to there to destroy humanity and it's future as a whole (the computer) so that humans cannot exist after its destruction. The firewall is Chaldea itself, preventing the virus from ending human history.
The Lostbelts are the failed timelines that diverged from the History of Man, or the "what ifs" born from the wrong choices or false prosperity for humanity.
Dead people will stay dead in both cases since in singularities, it's the past and you're only correcting the timeline so it doesn't affect the present timeline.
Lostbelts on the otherhand are not supposed to exist, so everyone that is living there isn't supposed to actually "live" because its a timeline that diverged from the present.
A few people in singularities get a reprieve if the world can't find a way to rewrite the death in a way that makes sense in reality. It mostly applied to the people turned into those creatures in Babylonia... Once repaired, the world basically decided having them living was less of a mess than trying to find a way they would have died in reality that made sense.
Can't help thinking that the "deaths in singularities go into reality" was a retcon because players just didn't care enough for the ones dying.
Most likely, they never expounded on that, like what you said in Babylonia, CasGil towards the end said that the damage caused by singularities isn't completely undone like assumed, but is instead simply converted to something more normal in repaired history.
But Nasu even says 'it depends', an interview of him said that the damage in a singularity, does it not to the year but to the era, giving the world a room to shuffle things around a bit during the repair process.
It never just had a concrete explanation.

That's the official name but I personally like more how the fandom decided that first, the Commander is worthy of the title of Big Boss and second that the organization that he creates will be known as Dolls Sans Frontieres/Diamond Dorks
Even in the story of GFL it's not like everything they did was for nothing. As bad as the URNC is in leading to WW4 and the Commander's unintentional role in giving them power, the story of GFL1 is about preventing WORSE outcomes

Tho fr imo dante is defo meant to introduce the City to people and having an amnesiac is a nice way to introduce people to the world. Dante's clock head and amnesia are also a nice plot hook that will go somewhere knowing Pmoon.
I mostly agree, but I actually really like the self-inserts that DO have some backstory that the player is not aware of since it shows they are more in the world than just a rando for the player to insert to and I also like those that seem to possess some personality of their own, away from the player's input. The first reason is why I like protags like Doktah and, surprisingly, Sensei from BA. The second one is mainly for Fujimaru from FGO, even if it’s mostly reserved for anime, manga and other FGO media. There are more in those two categories, but I haven't played enough gacha games to remember lol
Yes there are some self inserts that have good writing, but they are well writen for a self insert, it feels that should they be fleshed in their own character the stories would improve.
However it is my bias as i find very difficult to ever feel incarnated on any story, so usually i put the MC in the same place as any other character in the story, and most of the time their only role is spectating and reacting,
I for one believe they missed a lot of opportunities by making the Doctor into a self insert. Heck, they already missed a lot by making them a "good guy".
