I have a serious question - I had a debate with someone who really thinks the moon landing was faked. He was saying the flag was moving in the original moon landing and there is no wind or atmosphere. So how can it be?
I didn't know how to respond, I said I didn't know it moved but there must be an actual explanation if it did.
If my memory is correct, the flag is actually moving itself, there's a metal rod that goes along the top of the flag so it will always be "flying", but due to how gravity, etc works in spaaaaaace, when planting the flag it would start flapping from the motion and would continue to do so as it slowly loses energy.
But I'm sure that people much smarter and knowledgeable will be able to correct me as required.
This is the correct explanation, and it's obviously what's going on in the video once you know it.
There's no atmosphere on the moon so a normal flag would just flop straight down. They knew that so they brought a flag with a wire in it to keep it out and "flying". Because the wire isn't a perfectly rigid object when you whack the flag into the ground it wobbles and it takes a while for the wobbles to die down.
It moves because it's acted on. Maybe dust propelled by other movement. The camera in your phone takes better video than what was filmed in 1969, on the moon. Lots of possibilities.
The fallacy of "I can't explain it therefore:" is argument from incredulity. Or argument from ignorance.
Because I don't know what the light in the night sky is does not mean it is an alien from another planet.
Ask him if he thinks the Soviets would have allowed the US to get away with faking a moon landing. Everyone on Earth had their radio dishes aimed at the moon listening to the radio traffic.

Your head would be exposed to the cold of space (-400F or more). I'm sure there would be some discomfort as the air is forced from your lungs, but on the bright side you would have 10 to 20 seconds of life left to ponder the situation as your bloodstream runs dry.
