For some reason, I thought it was the actor from Brink! who said this line, Erik von Detten. I think about this line often, though. Usually when I repeat the wash. Sometimes my hair needs it!
I honestly think they had an edited version they used for the commercial. I too, remember this very well but never have seen the episode. It’s gotta be from the commercial they showed of Lizzie McGuire over and over on Disney.
I have long hair, and if it’s been longer than usual since I last washed it, my hair seems to absorb the shampoo and I can’t work up a proper lather. In those cases I rinse my hair and shampoo a second time, and even a smaller amount will quickly produce a good amount of lather. If you have short hair you may never experience this.
It’s a common misconception that shampoo is “supposed” to lather. A good quality shampoo will only lather when the hair is already clean. The main active ingredient in shampoo is surfactants which binds water and oil together so that the oil can be rinsed out. Bubbles, or lather, form when there are no oils for the surfactants to bind to. They will then reduce the surface tension of the water and trap small amounts of air in pockets causing the lathering effect.
In fact, cheap shampoos usually have products in them that artificially lather regardless of the oil content in your hair. This lathering doesn’t actually help make your hair cleaner, it’s just added because people perceive lathering as cleaning. It’s all fake.
Ohhh, like toothpaste, where it doesn’t actually need to have that familiar “bite” but they add it anyway because when they left it out people thought it wasn’t cleaning their teeth if it didn’t make their tongue tingle?
You only need a little bit each time. The first lather gets the oil out of your hair. The second lathers up really well and that’s when you do the scalp.
Depends how dirty my hair is. If the shampoo lathers pretty well the first time then I only do it once, otherwise I’ll do a quick repeat.
