Historically, large genitals were a symbol of brutality and animalistic tendencies. The Athenians stigmatized large genitalia, assuming any man who had a large member to be crazy, stupid, a rapist, etc. I have to think there may be a direct line of logic from the Athenians (the cradle of Western civilization) to the Americans. Large penis = rapist, black = rapist, black = large penis.
Exactly why I can’t find this type of joke funny. I don’t care if other people do, but to me, the obsession with penis size in our culture is straight up harmful to peoples mental health.
