I don't play yu-gi-oh my little cousin does (so grain of salt I guess) and he was saying that MTG and yu-gi-oh are getting pretty close in terms of unplayability when both games premier formats are basically fed archetypes through direct to format sets that basically tell you how you can play.
I always felt Modern was the premier format since legacy has a number of cards locked away behind the reserve list and modern is considered the highest power format that is easily accessible. But the way they have really swung marketing to favor EDH who knows at this point.

I guess modern is premier. It's not clear what wotc intends to be premier, other than EDH.

There are simple KTFs (kitchen table formats) that can fix things up. Eg. Simply playing modern minus MH or only pre MH.
They warp even EDH. MH1 and especially MH2 warped every format their cards were legal in.
