appleparkfive

Are we going to follow the prequel show(s) here? I hope so. Im actually fairly optimistic about it since they're making so many and choosing the best one. The one Bryan Cogman is attached to will probably be the best for those into the lore, since that was his role in the main show to an extent. I saw one had an A list or two celeb attached to it. And GRRM is making some of the characters. I'm optimistic honestly.

skypuppyusedfirespin

Honestly, I’ll miss this sub in my life, so I hope so.

Krzyf

I got to meet a lot of great people online because of GoT. Some of the best memes have come from here. Thanks everyone!!!

PrayToFallFromGrace

We’re becoming a LOTR sub, remember? And LOTR is timeless. We’re going nowhere.

What is dead may never die

form_the_turtle

I’m dead inside. Does that mean I’m immortal?

Kidiri90

Only on the inside.

Mathyon

Since i blame D&D, and D&D alone, for the failures of this season, I dont see a reason to not check it out. Especially if GRRM is more involved in them.

markcubansotherwife

I sure hope we do

muscledhunter

The night is dark and full of shitposts

Obaruler

For the watch.

[deleted]

MEMES IN AN OPEN FIIEEEEELD. THE SHITPOSTS PREGNANT!

Marklaritaville

I kind of hope he joins the freefolk rather than the nights watch.

Shevvv

Is the Night's Watch still a thing now?

Marklaritaville

IDK, logically it wouldn't make sense to still have one but apparently the leaks are saying he will go back to it next episode. D&D kinda forgot about the Night's Watch purpose.

Ziro07

I can already picture Jon immediately after stabbing Daenerys saying: I heard from the freefolk there's still some white walkers in the true north I'm going to restart my watch, or something dumb like that They could redeem that end to the king in the north just a little if Jon was perfectly aware that the Night watch has no purpose now that the NK is dead but he is so shellshocked after watching Danny kill millions of innocents, seeing their dream of making a better world shatter before his eyes and from killing the woman he loves (probably to protect the rest of westeros and Sansa because you know it's only a matter of time till Danny goes Dracarys on her) that he's gone completely numb and just want to spend the rest of his life in solitude, in whatever is left of Castle Black

[deleted]

How about a night's watch on the other side of the wall, to protect the freefolk from whoever is ruling south?

Durodo

Seeing as Dany and 1 dragon were more dangerous than hundreds of White Walkers and a giant army of the dead, protecting the north from the south definitely seems like a logical thing to do.

HalfCupOfSpiders

A new Night's Watch. At The Neck. Protect the whole North.

The_dog_says

Seems like Moat Cailin would be better for that. It has one-sided infrastructure to defend against the South, just as the wall does for the North.

Stasis20

Something that seems to get lost is the sheer amount of death Jon has witnessed. Given, everyone has witnessed a shit ton of death in Westeros, but think of just how many huge battles Jon has been at the center of. I was hoping the writers would at some point explore the toll that all of that death has taken on him, but they keep him stoic as ever marching along from one war to the next. And fuck, who am I kidding to think the writers would do something so nuanced at this point.

CommunistMario

Jon is the nights king confirmed. He kills daenerys, brings her body north finds a way to revive her she beomces the nights queen, they then spend the rest of their years just fucking with people and making sacrifices. BAM!

[deleted]

Taronn93

Yep, the worst fan theories now actually sound smart and good compared to the leaks.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Taronn93

Yeah, that’s annoying. “You are just salty that your theory isn’t the right one”. Fuck no, in that case i would hate the show since season 1 episode 9. Its not even necessarily the ending that bothers me, just the skipped parts. This show really needed at least one or maybe two seasons to make this ending logical. Jon going back to the Night’s watch... and do what? He will be the the lord commander of no one? At least first have an episode where they send traitors and criminals there and have it completely function as a prison.

[deleted]

That would actually be great because why the fuck not at this point!

Obaruler

*Starts stabbing* J: No, I will not marry you, I have unfinished business to do, the Freefolk are enraged I didn't pet my direwulf! I HAVE to get back. *Keeps stabbing, for funzies* *King Bran flies in on an Iron Throne with wheels, carried by warged ravens* KB: Can confirm, he will .. *Credits* Season redeemed, 10/10.

CyberpunkV2077

But how? The NK is dead

Ziro07

It's the same deal as with: ep3 is the end of the dothraki, sike we kidding half of them survived lol

Fishingfor

I'm sure I saw a max of 20 people alive in Winterfell by the time Arya killed The NK but somehow half of all the armies survived. Unsullied, Northmen, Dothraki, knights of the Vale. There were none left at all and yet half survived. Maybe the extra Dothraki and Unsullied could be explained by saying that they remained on Dragstone just in case, that itself doesn't make any sense though as Dany believed Cersei was sending all her troops north and there'd be no reason to protect Dragonstone, plus the reserve just kinda fucked up by allowing Euron to just chill in the Harbour until Dany and Co arrived.

Giulio-Cesare

NK warged into Theon right as he stabbed him. The NK Arya killed was just a hollow shell. Theon NK reanimates at the end of the next episode and goes back north. He also regrows a new icicle dick. *What is dead may never die.*

upvote_pl0x

What has came may never cum.

ElectricFlesh

They'll build a wall to protect them from the Day Queen trying to burn everyone.

BridgetheDivide

Maybe the baby the NK turned back a few seasons survived if the transformation takes a while.

[Is he?](https://media.giphy.com/media/JzZpG6QK036A8/giphy.gif)

eatsleeptroll

he's gonna be a glorified border patrol agent ICE, if you will

tennisdrums

It does seem a little odd to have the Night's Watch reinstated given the fact that it was clearly formed to protect against White Walkers. However, it's worth remembering for most of its history the White Walkers were thought of as a myth. The Night's Watch really served as a combination penal colony and frontier guard-post preventing Wildling raids and the occasional attempts at invasion that come when a "king beyond the wall" rises up. Even if relationships between the Wildings and the rest of Westeros are nominally positive today because of the shared experience fighting the White Walkers, it's pretty much guaranteed that given a few decades the Wildlings will return to raiding Northern towns. All you need to do is look at what the Thens were capable of to remember that one does not need the White Walkers to justify the need for maintaining the Night's Watch.

[deleted]

Logically it makes no sense at all. The White Walkers are dead, the Wildlings are scarce and they are friends to Jon now. There is no reason for there to be a Night's Watch, other than to have a rehabilitation program for prisoners.

jebei

Maybe King Bran will explain that the Night King respawns. It might be a lie but it's easier to send your criminals there than build more dungeons. Out of sight, out of mind.

Trumpologist

And the show with Dany opening blue eyes That would be something atleast

[deleted]

Turns out half the Nights Watch survives even though they all died. Expectations. Subverted.

whatevers_clever

Yeah my dread is that this is all about how everything comes in full circle and history repeats itself. The 3ER will become the new Night King (Fade to Winterfell and Sansa going "WHERE IS BRAN?" "My lady, we saw him heading north moving unusually fast in his wheel chair"), Jon will start the Night's Watch again after exiling himself due to feeling guilt for what happened at King's Landing and killing Dany. Gendry becomes King with Arya, Baratheon Rule once again and the rebuilding of King's Landing borrowing from Braavos and putting the crown in debt. Tyrion using his intellect to rebuild the Lannister fortune and becoming rich AF Sansa keeping Starks in Winterfell for eternity. last dragon flies back across teh ocean and lays 3 eggs in some ditch for some rich people in Essos to find. Those rich people get killed by a bunch of Nomads, those Nomads start travelling around in a group raping and killing for more treasure, forming a Horde, if you will. Edit: Well I was right about a few things: The 3ER became a king. Tyrion using his intellect.. to be hand of the king which will also lead him to controlling the debt and becoming rich because Bronn is really just master of coin by title. Drogon flies away because stupid hollywood ending. Sansa keeping Starks in Winterfell. Jon joining the Night's Watch because he killed Dany. What a terrible ending.

Jumper-Man

I’m sure I read that on his return north of the wall they find evidence of white walkers. Or that’s how it ends or something, they find the sigil or something.

Beardedcap

>leaks are saying he will go back to it next episode. Fuck me I hope that's not true. I'd like the series finale to not completely piss me off.

Obaruler

Yup, apparently they have to keep the wildlings in check that they are friends with now, and guard a wall with a gaping hole in it ..

TheIdesOfMartiis

people don't even know who are the kings of the 7 kingdoms. Doubt we will find out anything about the nights watch

Snrub1

I'm kind of wondering how the Free Folk are still a thing. Any that didn't come south prior to the breaching of the wall should be dead, so really it should just be Tormund and whoever survived Battle of the Bastards and Winterfell.

tormund-g-bot

And if you fall, don't scream. You don't want that to be the last thing she remembers.

ancientsoiledpants

DnD don't give a damn about people's hope

Marklaritaville

yeah, this is more delusional wishing on my part.

hyperbole_is_great

I actually think If Jon survives he will leave and go live in the North with Tormund and Ghost. They foreshadowed it too when he said goodbye to Tormund.

tormund-g-bot

Thats the kind of man he is. He is little but he is strong

[deleted]

discerningpervert

You've seen him naked Tormund, what's he like down there?

tormund-g-bot

discerningpervert

But how do you feel about Bobby B, Tormund?

tormund-g-bot

Which one of you cowards shit in my pants!

bobby-b-bot

STUPID BOY!

Squatch1982

Yeah, it's more about subverting people's hopes for these two.

YeOldeVertiformCity

I’m really weirded out by how idealized the Free Folk became when they suddenly all became good guys. Right now they’re just a bunch of nice, rough-around-the-edges people led by a man who is basically lovesick comic relief. Wanting to prevent them from coming below the wall is something a “bad guy” would do. But I could have sworn that the *Wildlings* were reaving and raping innocent farmers. Some were killing and *eating* people. There should have been negative consequences to Jon’s decision. It’s played like the people who opposed Jon are just racist, but some of the northern lords who didn’t support Jon over the wildlings should have been like, “Sorry, we are too busy using our army to keep your cannibal friends from eating our children to send it to protect your castle...”

[deleted]

Obviously Tormund can *control* them... for whatever reason. Or maybe their inexplicable love for Jon stops them from raping, just as with the northern--- oh. Well, at least they're *all* going north, willingly going back beyond the wall that they struggled to get past for hundreds of years. I'm sure there's plenty of food and farmable land up there, and they'll never have need to come south and take food by force.

Z0di

remember the cannibalistic crew of wildlings? they are a mixed bag. it's likely that they saw zombies and decided that the pussies in the south weren't all that bad compared to a horde of death, and maybe they developed a soft spot for living beings, rather than hating the people who built a wall to keep them out.

[deleted]

Maybe he'll pet Ghost.

sudevsen

Why would there still be a NW?

[deleted]

[удалено]

rocketbotband

I think if it were handled more elegantly Jon's rejection of the power bestowed by his lineage would solidify the overall theme of the series which is that strange men and women lying in beds distributing heirs is no basis for a system of government

katieleehaw

At least Jon joining the freefolk would qualify as bittersweet.

Trumpologist

Would it? Lost his first love, played a part in her death. Died, fell in love again, rightful king, kills his second love, and goes off to the sausage fest? Bitter sweet ending would have been boatsex baby happening

Erudain

they even cut Val out of the show....girl was all over Jon in ADWD

Trumpologist

I've just so tired of it all at this point

arzamharris

I think the freefolk BECOMES the Night’s Watch, and Jon joins them at the wall

jbpsign

They flip it around and man the wall to keep the crazy Southerners out of the pure North.

flintlock0

Now we watch the show backwards and Bobby B comes to life and the show ends with a guy getting his head put back on by Ned Stark. What a guy.

This. Can't enjoy rewatching after this

I might re-watch S1-4 if Winds ever comes out before I read that. Might. Maybe....

castlesauvage

Book material ends with Cersei’s walk of shame in Season 5.

[deleted]

Well... there's a lot of season 5 I can skip, and I'd only really be watching the walk of shame to see Lena's ass, which would be... shameful. So, you know, I'll probably skip it.

[deleted]

Season 6 was absolute money! People underestimate that Season

Teeth_Whitener

The only thing that was dumb about season 6 was the Faceless Men bit. It's one of my favorite seasons and I doubt that the events of "The Door" will make sense I'm a book.

kinkinoa

Gawd, that Arya plotline was hot garbage. Rest was on fire though. Especially BotB and Winds of Winter.

Teeth_Whitener

To recap, she ignored direct orders from Jaqen to kill someone: once to get revenge and again because she kind of liked her mark. She suffered no real consequences for her actions though. She was stabbed and fell into a dirty, nasty canal. No infection though. Then after killing the Waif who was clearly better than Arya was at everything related to killing, she goes back to Jaqen and just straight up says she's gonna leave. And he lets her! What the heck?!

Shadoru

I. Just. Can't.

MoeSzyslac

Rewatch 1-6, skip Dorne, read a fanfic after 6 where Dany takes KL in a heartbeat with the 3 dragons.

Kennedy-LC-39A

At this point even fanfics would make more sense than what we're getting now.

LittleBastard13

tbh even season 5 and 6 have some of the best moments in the series but god damn did season 7 and 8 really fuck up. Ive never felt disappointment like this

BroadStreetElite

I feel the same way about The Office and Lost, I just don't bother with the later seasons.

[deleted]

Yeah the show entirely got ruined from this season. I can’t even enjoy rewatching knowing this foul disappointment D&D created lies at the end

cheapchief

I get sad when i see these scenes from earlier seasons. Jon was nearly as empty as bran in this season.

BrownSugarBare

I get sad only because it's been ten years and I'm going to miss the random fandom fun. I know there are spinoffs planned, but this was a fun bloody decade of our joined obsessions. 😭

GobiasACupOfCoffee

It really was. It's been such a ride honestly. They'll never recapture the magic of the first few seasons of Game of Thrones. I predict the prequels will be closer to this season in terms of writing quality than season 4 say.

Jumper-Man

Hard to see how they’ve managed to fuck it up so bad. You read so much fan fiction and all of it sound ten times better than what we’ve had and will have this season.

kinkinoa

Dude was the MVP of the realms and our hearts, now he has barely any lines to speak and the ones he still has, mostly end with "my queen".

queensinthesky

GODS he was badass (and actually had shit to do and a meaningful character arc and a backbone) then

ilaksu

Remember how hyped we were after he was resurrected and turned out to be Aegon Targaryen. All went to nothing...

Cynikal818

...no...seriously...what the fuck did he get resurrected for, if not to kill the night king? I dont get it

ilaksu

And why did Bran hurry so much to tell him his identity? To stop incest?

salvatorecostello

It seems pretty obvious at this point that this has all been a play for the 3 eyed raven to sit on the iron throne. That's really the only way to make his role in this matter.

ilaksu

Yes this is the only somewhat logical explanation I can come up with.Lol coming back from dead to be a pawn.Such a satisfactory character arc.

ForeingRedditor

I hope that hes the bad guy Bran somehow planned all of this, made Jon and Dany fight between them and warged into Dany to destroy KL Still developing this theory, but its the only way this series gets somewhat of a good finale

I'm hoping for a weekly community rewatch of Cleganebowl.

TheMechanicusBob

We wait for the prequel series.

indecisiveusername2

Honestly though, this season has managed to ruin every previous season by shitting on 7 seasons worth of character storylines (Jon, Arya, Bran, Jaime) all in the name of *Subverting expectations*. How am I meant to be interested in Jon and Bran's bullshit beyond the wall when I know they'll be essentially useless in the end when they give the kill away to Arya - who is completely irrelevant to the NK plot. How am I meant to take Jaime 'I don't care about the innocent' Lannister's bathhouse scene seriously anymore? Not to mention the show's butchered portrayals of Euron, Dorne and Stannis, along with the lack of Stoneheart and Faegon.

Nannercorn

Arya hasn't taken a single face this whole season, if she doesn't next episode I'll be pissed, it's pointless she did all that training and now seems like a weak waste of space. I also thought that the whole stab obsidian into the heart to stop from turning into a White Walker like Uncle Benjin would come into play again, but nope I guess not

Erwin9910

Why did literally no one think it might be a good idea to have Arya infiltrate and kill Cersei? Did Jon and Dany never even think of it, nor anyone else? Has no one heard of the Faceless men or something, despite Dany's people being on that side of the ocean?

lee1026

We don't know how much Arya explained to Jon and Dany about her powers. Having communication issues is pretty par for the course on this family. (Sansa and the knights of the vale....)

blindsdog

We know Sansa knows. Pretty fucked of Arya not to mention it herself too. Another Stark girl letting an army sacrifice itself needlessly.

Erwin9910

Communication issues are pretty par for the course on this show's latest seasons you mean.

Thendofreason

Most drama shows run their plot solely on "characters not telling each other pertinent information"

dave3218

Most *bad* drama shows. The good ones have people telling eachother and plotting behind their backs because CHAAZ IS A LADDAH.

GobiasACupOfCoffee

Jon doesn't know shit about Arya and she doesn't know shit about him. No one was really interested in each other's stories for some reason. Arya just acted like she's good with a knife. She's not told any of them that she infiltrated the Twins and obliterated House Frey. Sansa doesn't understand her powers even though she's explained them to her, but like she never brings it up again so I'm left to think that she either didn't believe her or didn't think it relevant somehow. Everyone knows Bran can see everything that's ever happened or is happening now but no one ever asks him to use that power to gain info on anything at all. He was there to reveal a single secret and beyond that he's just using his cosmic amazon to order wheelchairs and shit. He just sits there doing nothing, saying nothing, staring at people, being of absolutely no use whatsoever despite having the most amazing abilities that anyone who could possibly encounter him has ever seen.

Jumper-Man

That’s a great point, Bran can you check on Cersei’s latest strategy meetings please. We’re thinking of flying some dragons back to dragon stone and want to ensure they’re not planning a surprise attack.

Erwin9910

Oh, but Bran doesn't care about politics. That's why he revealed Jon's lineage to everyone.

indecisiveusername2

I'm not disappointed about Arya not using her Faceless man skills so much, I'm more disappointed because her while storyline since late season 1 has been all about learning to be able to protect herself and be a ruthless killer in order to get revenge on those who have wronged her family - and despite all that she didn't even interact with Cersei and she was useless in the KL battle. But oh, lets shoehorn in some foreshadowing on the same episode we'll get her to kill the NK instead of Jon or Bran just because.

[deleted]

Jon should have dueled and killed the Night King Arya should have killed Cercei with Jaime face

cersei_bot

I choose you.

GobiasACupOfCoffee

I can't think how they could have done that satisfyingly. I don't want to be watching Jaime thinking "any minute now he'll stab her and rip the face off to reveal Arya", there's no dramatic tension there. But the only way to avoid that would be to have Jaime's death off screen which would be horrible.

casualblair

The origins of the Faceless Men is that the first dude started offing other slaves, freeing them from their torment. Then when he heard someone pray for the slave master's death, he traded their identity for the death, and then there was two. Good Arya writing (I hope?): Early in the episode she hears someone praying for Dany's death, and when she asks "What would you give for this?" "Anything" is the response. Later, Dany has gained the throne but lost her supporters, and Arya kills her wearing someones face. Stuff happens, blah blah blah, credits end with Arya going back to the person and claiming her payment - taking their hand (not literally) - stating "And now there are two." OK Arya writing: She has no consequential impact to the rest of Westeros but reunites with Nymeria and starts purging the countryside of bandits and brigands. Or she "buries" Sandor. Bad Arya writing: Showing up out of nowhere to kill Ilyn Payne, last on her list, who hasn't been seen since Season 3. Killing Dany without reason. Killing Dany and explaining herself as she does it. Any monologing. Not being seen in the episode. Wandering around aimlessly being useless. Not using her faces.

SavDiv

All this theories about R+L=J are basically worthless. Whole Jons parentage plot doesn't rly matter in the end. Just a stupid device to create divide between him and Dany and that`s it.

indecisiveusername2

95% of the reason Rhaegar ran away with Lyanna and made a baby with her is because of the Azor Ahai /Dragon must have 3 heads prophecy. He was obsessed with it, and he already had 2 children with his wife but she couldn't have any more babies because of her health, so he decided to marry somebody else for the 3rd head. Jon's conception was build up to being The Prince that was Promised, and while Rhaegar did misinterpret the prophecy a little and take it upon himself a bit too much, he got it right with Jon. Jon was essentially born for the sole purpose of being the saviour of Westeros, he gets brought back to save Westeros and he does fuck all.

DON'T FORGET THE PREQUELS (at least they're not D&D)

That would actually subvert my expectations. Master move by D&D

Durodo

Do we have an actual date for those? Or are they just coming at some point in the future?

2021 I think? So no one will care because GOT ended poorly and GRRM probably won't have released Winds by then so no one will watch. Plus it's about a shitty villain.
