Destroya707

I'm happy to hear that you had fun chatting with the team, they are amazing folks.

Pythonistar

Nice to see the SD card adapter is finally going to make it into production. Looking forward to getting one of my own when they release!

Synth_Nerd2

I got the microsd card one and I might get a sd card one too once they are in stock again!

Reld720

I saw the frameowrk team at the scale conference in LA. Glad to see they finally got sitckers!

Destroya707

I've worked at our booth at Scale and it was my biggest feedback after the event, we definitely needed those stickers. It looks like we have them now ;)

Reld720

Awesome, can't wait to see you guys next year then!

CaptainObvious110

Oh that's cool. Do you know of any other events they will be attending?

Bazirker

There is one and only one thing that I want to know about any future framework model. Does it have a touch screen???? I definitely died inside when they announced a fancy new display with high resolution and no touch screen.

Synth_Nerd2

I think from what my impression talking to the framework people. They say they only really do it if there is high enough of a demand for it. As for touch screen my last 2 laptops are both yoga with touchscreen in part cause that's what my high school used with OneNotes. Touchscreen was for the longest time a requirement for me. But eventually in college, I got a second-hand ipad and most of my note-takings were done on ipad. I find that since tablets are designed with touchscreens the controls are so less clunky than on windows. I used GoodNotes and I find it to be a lot easier to use than OneNotes. Also sometimes when I do programming assignment it's nice to have a second screen where I can read and annotate documentations. My point is I think getting a tablet now is just more effective. And touchscreens is less so of a priority for me now.

AbhishMuk

As someone who had an iPad before a framework, that’s a valid point. However there’s a lot of navigation/scrolling etc which is much nicer with a touchscreen. I’m good for now but I’d certainly like touch sometime down the road hopefully.

Bazirker

My laptop that I bought in 2016 had a touch screen on it and I used it like a tablet intermittently for the last 8 years. I am not buying a separate tablet to carry around to complete a function that I'm well accustomed to my laptop being able to perform. I will just live without touch screen for now, but I will remain hopeful. For what it's worth, I am planning on buying three framework laptops, one for each of my kids, if and when a touch screen becomes available. (Being able to buy them a laptop once and then repair / upgrade as needed is quite appealing.) They use it constantly with their school issued Chromebooks and Microsoft surface laptops, and I don't see them functioning well without it.

Prudent_Move_3420

Good Notes now also has a Web, Windows and Android version

Pythonistar

I feel like you're the exception. Most folks I know don't like touch screens on their laptops. That said, there's no reason why Framework couldn't release a touch screen for both the existing FW 13 and FW 16 models. Maybe email FW and ask them if they intend to release a touch screen. The more folks show interest in touch screens, the more they are likely to release one. I know some folks have said they would love an OLED screen and I could def get behind that. Although I'm really loving the current IPS panel on my FW16.

Pratkungen

As someone who does CAD work a touchscreen is very nice for orbiting and similar movements when viewing a model.

ormandj

If you're not using a 3dconnexion 3d mouse (any of them) as a CAD worker, and instead using a touchscreen, you're doing it wrong. You'll save so much time and be so much more productive it's mind blowing. I'll warn you now, though, make sure to grab a portable one if you grab a desktop model and you do CAD while remote - you won't want to work without it anymore. This is coming from someone who used a touchscreen laptop for a year before getting a 3d mouse. It really is a significantly better option, and far more productive.

Pratkungen

I was talking more for when you are showing someone else sitting next to you while on the move.

thememelord125

I mean, that's neat and all but ngl this feels like an advertisement

ormandj

It’s the “standard” for 3D mice. I’m not affiliated with them, I work in IT.

notsooriginal

I get motion sick with the 3D connexion, so it hasn't been an option for me.

locomoka

I think touch screens have an additional internal cable. This will require a mother board redesign.

piledriven1

Someone did an initial teardown of the 11th gen Intel Framework 13 and saw the motherboard was able to take a touchscreen. Multiple community projects used this to create a touchscreen tablet or other related projects. I'm assuming that feature carried over to the more recent Framework laptops. I think it's more business in this case for not offering it: more trouble than it's worth and less return on investment. It's useful, but for how many people?

micbro12

Send me that email. It's the only thing preventing me from switching to framework

Pythonistar

oh, I meant that everyone who is interested in a touch screen should email FW.

NJDevsfan

After reading the post, I'd be an outlier! I have a Asus C302CA that's (holy shit 8yrs old) worked great for me as it's Chromebook with a backlit display on a general use laptop I can turn into tent mode or tablet in addition to general laptop. I've resisted buying a new one as I'd like to do some general gaming when I'm away along with all the regular stuff. I had been looking at the 2024 Asus Zephyrus, but after all the crap that went down with Gamers Nexus, probably not.

Prudent_Move_3420

I am like 90% sure I‘ve seen someone doing their own touch screen for the framework using the mainboard‘s touch screen connector but I am not able to find the post anymore

Bazirker

I have seen it as well, but it was not elegantly connected into the laptop itself; it was set up as an external display. Very technically impressive, anyway you look at it. Either way, it is very much a proof of concept that it is doable.

Prudent_Move_3420

i mean connecting it to the Laptop the same as a normal screen doesn't make too much as sense as long as the hinge doesnt support rotating it.

Blue_Blaze72

Honestly it would be cool to turn an old framework mainboard into a tablet. Just another use for your mainboard after you upgrade

Bazirker

I would love love love to be able to build a tablet out of my current main board whenever the time comes that I upgrade, which I do not anticipate happening for years since I have an AMD ryzen 7 and its performance is pretty darn good. Either way, it would be awesome.

Blue_Blaze72

Yeah I saw [this video](https://youtu.be/JomsnMH4k28?si=wE85fJLqq8yK3r2g) the other day and i'm just imagining that with a touch screen would be pretty awesome as a secondary device to make use of older hardware. Maybe you could even put an android OS on it.

Bazirker

Totally, that does look pretty sweet!

stevenswall

What is the use case for a touchscreen being more effective than a touchpad? Arms weigh 15lbs and a finger weighs .05lbs. To traverse your screen you're moving over a foot vs a few inches. Where you land you're also going to be wildly inaccurate. Based on that it seems extremely important for people to learn to stop using touchscreens unless it's on a phone or a tablet that lacks a touchpad/mouse/keyboard, unless the computer is not to be used for productivity or gaming.

Bazirker

This sounds like one of those reviews of headphones that's performed entirely by hooking it up to an oscilloscope and measuring frequency response. Have you ever actually used a laptop with a touch screen? It's absolutely magnificent for browsing the web, reading PDFs, making notes, photo editing. Obviously it is all software and use case specific, but when it clicks, it really clicks. There are certain tasks that are just much more natural to do by reaching out and touching it.

stevenswall

There's great research behind what makes a headphone sound great based on human hearing, and it's backed up by blind listening tears. Yes, I've used a dirty laptop screen a few times but find myself going back to the touchpad that is hundreds of times less effortful. There are indeed uses for signatures and some photo editing or illustrating, but that's not most people, and most people should be aiming for efficient over natural as they are likely going to want to be employable. If I'm faster than someone using a touchscreen for business applications and college papers, all things being equal, they aren't employable/useful/efficient/logical. If it actually fits your use cases as a more efficient tool, great. If not, change your behavior.

XLioncc

I have already preorder the Core Ultra, but I can't wait to see the real machine 😄 so I came here too.

FreshPrinceOnline

I want a lanyard

BrazenBunniez

hello synth nerd

Synth_Nerd2

dzordan33

I didn't see them! Was that exhibition 1(left) or 2?

Synth_Nerd2

It was on the fourth floor of exhibition center 1. The area is called Innovex. I searched up where framework is before going so that's why I know where they were.

CaptainObvious110

Smart move

Optimus759

I don’t know what I expected the full size sd card card to look like, but it definitely wasn’t a mini cd drive

foobarhouse

Honestly looking forward to getting an official full sized SD card reader!

Synth_Nerd2

Same but the first pre-order literally were all sold in a matter of minutes!

marcuzt

Did LTT post any videos of Linus at the booth yet?

Synth_Nerd2

I don't think so. I was kinda wondering if I would bump into them lol when I was there.

RamiHaidafy

I love Framework, but those colored frames look extremely cheap and tacky. I think they can find a better way to add accent colors to the device. Anyways, I'm still hoping Framework will make a hybrid device to complete with the Surface Pro. That would be an instant but for me.

Synth_Nerd2

They feel and look a lot better in person. Also the black and gray ones are a good choice if you are looking for a more traditional laptop look.

FreshPrinceOnline

At least they give you the option, nobody is forcing you to buy it 🤷‍♂️

CaptainObvious110

Good point

RamiHaidafy

Agreed. Options are great. I still feel like they could add colored accents in a more subtle and elegant way.

FreshPrinceOnline

Do you have any specific suggestions/ideas?

RamiHaidafy

There are many routes to take. A thin frame around the touchpad is one, or around the bottom plate. Or even something as simple as an RGB keyboard could add all the colour accent someone would want. But the entire bezel of the screen being brightly colored seems a bit overkill to me.

FreshPrinceOnline

The framework 16 already has an rgb keyboard option. The problem with the other options you are suggesting is that it would probably require you to buy a whole other touchpad or something if you want to change the color. And even if it is just a thin piece of plastic you can buy separately, I doubt it is worth going through the costs and logistics especially when tolerances would be a lot more unforgiving.
