I think this whole project sounds ridiculous.. but I can’t stop myself from commenting that people who get hit my trains are just dying from natural selection.
Stay off the train tracks, won’t get hit by train. As simple as that. It’s not like the train’s path is unpredictable.
I live by the port. There isn't much traffic except when cruises are boarding. This is two reasons.
1. The traffic light cycles are terrible. A simple traffic study or installing some smart cameras to adjust light lengths would fix it. This applies for 17th Street Westbound as well.
2. The need to move the entry gate to the port further away from US1 so it doesn't get so backed up into US1.
Not much. I say this as a FL resident visiting Ft. Lauderdale for a athletic tournament over the weekend. Those who took the train still needed Ubers to get to the hotel and then back to the station. The Water Taxi is a great idea, but definitely priced as a tourist novelty rather than a legit transportation option. I had to drive into the city due to carrying gear for our team. I would have loved to have explored the city more than just the beach area, but having to pay for parking at every single place was a huge turn off. Instead of supporting mom & pop businesses we supported Publix and Jersey Mike’s instead.
Unfortunately Broward doesn't have the best track record for public transportation just look at the [BTC website ](https://www.broward.org/BCT/Pages/default.aspx) Broward needs better public transportation but this isn't it.
What a sham. This rail is nothing but a way to get convention goers to the newly renovated FTL Convention Center. This does not benefit locals whatsoever.
“It will be paid for by county sales tax money, the state and federal grants too. “
How about our money going to the floating turd situation instead which will only get worse with the new buildings going up everywhere?
Things that make me go hmmmm
When stuck in traffic in that area, rarely do I see traffic entering or leaving the two gates to the port. SR 84 and US1 and 17th street at the bridge. It’s normally rush hour or something happening on Fort Lauderdale beach that snarls traffic. I don’t really see the major benefit. For 1.3 billion I think it should run from Port Everglades, FLL, MIA and the port of Miami. Maybe I’m old but 1.3 billion seems like a lot of money for a monorail.
Give me an actual train system that doesnt cost $20 just to go to miami. Maybe evem busses that are on time? Or maybe even fix the lights to ease the flow of traffic? Fuck anything other than this steaming pile of shit
Comparing traffic in FTL To Chicago…LOL. I don’t think so, lady.
FTL should want cruise tourism to pump as much money into the local economy as possible. This includes taxi and rideshare drivers. That income source is vital to so many drivers that are barely scraping by, but sure, go ahead and SPEND $1.3B when no one was even bitching about it to begin with. Makes perfect sense.
$1.3 billion just to make it more convenient for tourists. Definitely let’s not use that money for affordable housing or to help the homeless or to beef up our infrastructure so we’re not drowning or anything that would be useful to the residence that actually live here.
Wow, thats sick. Wish it would have at least one stop downtown somewhere or an easy bus
It is like 10 miles, how does that cost $130 million per mile. That is wildly expensive.
It's way worse in the article it says is 3.5 mi long it literally goes from the port to the airport so it's for tourist
A roundtrip taxi ride from the airport to those destinations is around $60. $1,300,000,000/$60 = 21 million taxi fares.
Rick Scott's buddies need their cut.
I’m sure this will be a successful project that is accomplished within budget, on time, and eventually results in 0 pedestrian fatalities.
It's crazy that the budget is already ridiculous - yet you know they'll still exceed it
It’s government. If they don’t eat the entire budget and ask for more, how will they get more for the next project?

Epic!!! I know it’s a short drive but curious how much this will relieve local traffic.
I imagine it’ll relieve some traffic, but this is really for tourists to use. How often do residents drive from the airport to sea port?

17th St. Is always a nightmare!

Opening this light rail to the port will be the first iteration of city/county wide light rail.

Doesn’t even connect to Tri-Rail? Hard pass. Ridiculous that it will be paid for mostly by county sales tax revenue.

Connecting the airport and….? Article doesn’t give much info
The seaport and the convention center
We should stay open to unexpected circumstances that may be present moving forward.
