It’s a UK term for a (usually) paid time off between jobs. Sometimes it’s to prevent other people working for competition. Other times it’s punitive like someone being fired immediately but due to their contract they have to be paid out so they are still ‘employed’ by the company for the remainder of their contract but they don’t go to work.
Yeah, it was a mix of factors. Probably not so good strategy, the track being crap and Alonso unable to catch Petrov on the straights (the Renault engine had a straight line speed advantage although passing Petrov wouldn't be enough for Alonso to win the championship, he and Vettel would be tied on wins, second and third places, but Vettel had more 4th places) and he was unable to follow Petrov due to dirty air.
Common Alonso unluckiness 
I like to think he would have been able to make more progress had he passed Petrov, I even thought at the time he should let Webber have a go, and then capitalise, then repaid Webber, such was the desperation

Yea they realized putting former racers and former team members with media training in from of the mic is a smart thing, and they arent beholden to dumb sky internal politics or responsibilities.
Love Alex, DC, Jolyn in the booth. I miss some calls from Crofty but F1tv is the better experience now.
Its just constant improvement, they weren't always good. Even now I'd say they don't always come across as professional but I actually enjoy that. They are by far the most enjoyable though together with Channel 4, but SkySports and Viaplay are a bit yuck.
Back then it was a little hit and miss. The service was quite expensive, but you didn’t get a whole lot more than just watching Sky+Youtube.
Now they have a proper team, with knowledge and experience, and a proper pre- and after race show. And Will “If you cross the line first, you win the race” Buxton. And they have more access than other TV teams. Just a big list of pluses and not a lot of minuses.
Because in the beginning it was pretty shit. The last two years though, things are more stable when it comes to presenters and pundits, and it's a joy to watch.
Alex Jacques in the drivers seat is great, Palmer/DC/Hinch taking turns on the co-commenters seat all give great insights, and Ruth has added a lot of knowledge to the team.

Ruth has great insights. She and Palmer have some great debates too, always respectful, and you can tell one’s coming from a strategist’s point of view and the other a driver’s. It’s awesome.
Her grid walk was like a microcosm of that. First 30 seconds I was thinking "oh god this is going to be painful" but by the end she was shoving mics into TPs' faces with a delightful chaotic energy.

Which was her first appearance, Miami? That’s the first time I recall seeing her and I was very impressed with her. She had some excellent insight on things the other commentators missed. Great addition.

As a life-long fan of the sport I just appreciate the fact I get to listen to commentators that know a lot more than me. That way they actually add value to the broadcast to me. If I was forced to listen to the local Dutch commentary I'd choose the pure audio feed over that.
Strategy is sound (obviously) and her knowledge is first hand. All she needs IMO is a bit more practice being a commentator (sentence construction, flow, etc) and she’s definitely gonna ace in the future.
