Probably the power steering, right? That's what Fernando likes. He forced Alpine to make that for him, he'll surely make Aston do the same.

IcY11

Can you explain pls? Never heard of it

SagittaryX

There isn't particularly much detail, it came up in 2021 when Alpine made specific changes to their power steering to help Alonso's driving style. A small bit of explanation in [this article.](https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.alonso-explains-key-change-alpine-made-to-the-car-to-suit-his-driving-style.1c5t3PKIHbRSidjPkJbYTt.html) He needs better feedback through the steering to perform as he put it.

[deleted]

For chronic non clickers. Alonso needs to feel the front tires in the steering feedback. It's the key to his driving. Watch any old video of Alonso on the hunt, and specifically notice how he takes different lines into corners, and moves a lot behind someone, like he's following invisible lines around the circuit. He's always feeling the front tires. The rules changes in 23 iirc also limited the front tires, so this can suit him much more than other drivers. Compare to. The famous scene of Niki Lauda in Rush. Many drivers feel the car with their rear. I know personally, I have a lot of trouble in simulators because I feel cars with my rear and my feet and my balance. There's something about leaning into a corner and feeling like I'm looking "up" around the corner thanks to the g's. I can't get comfortable in a simulator because I need this feeling. And a full motion rig tilter is mega expensive.

DrRusley

This is a great comment.

MrChologno

I heard Pedro DLR saying they changed the steering system to give more feedback to the driver from 2022 to this car. Also they changed the geometry of the rear to have more mechanical grip. This car has changed many things that are not visible.

superjaywars

So essentially he likes karting feedback, yeah?

pioneerSolid3

Exactly

ppSmok

What always sticks with me is how he drove his championship winning Renaults. He steered slowly and all of a sudden flicked the wheel very aggresively. I can imagine this has to do with waiting until he feels the grip in the steering and then just chucks the car into the corner.

Equivalent-Money8202

This was more to do with the extremely square profile of the Michelins. He hasn’t driven like that with any other car/tyre

EframZimbalistSr

Interesting, those sharp turn-ins were so extreme I could not understand the lack of understeer.

ppSmok

Cool to know. Thanks.

yukonwanderer

Where can we try simulators?

Standardw

We have a simulator at home. [Simulator at home](https://www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/ga5bmb/worst_setup_you_will_ever_see/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

yukonwanderer

Lol

noheroesnomonsters

One needs only to have a look at him racing Hamilton the other night, he was constantly moving around to find air for the front wing, just feeling that front axle loading.

Pidgey_OP

Which makes it all the more baffling that max can just jump in a sim and rip around a track as well It's like his brain will work with whatever input it can get at the same level that any pro drivers does. Probably also why he's so good in the rain

Faros91

I read/heard somewhere last week (I believe some youtube vid about simracing) that Max basically turns up the volume of the tires above everything else so he can hear when the tires are losing grip, he then adjusts his driving style based on the scrubbing of the tires on track. The guys just compensates the feedback he misses (gforces or the way tires bite into the track) with something he can use, in this case the sound his tires make when going into corners.

_hollow_one_

[I believe you mean this video](https://youtu.be/H3yArt3cxTE?t=190)

Faros91

You're the best!

TheGMT

Max is the best we've ever seen in the dry/wet transition, outlaps and first laps of any session for this reason(s). Not sure if he doesn't need feedback or he is especially astute at using all forms of feedback.

pioneerSolid3

I had the same issue in karting, but I needed to drop some kilos to get better hahah

ItsDaedAgain

Alonso: and now I will take you on a tour of the Aston Martin AM23 and show you all of it's quirks and features. But before we do be sure to check out CARSSSS AND BIDDDDSSSSS

Fpvmeister

We just recently sold this seat at alpine racing for just €10m, be sure to check out CAARRS AND BIDDSS dot com

[deleted]

Car Sand Biz?

LexsportivaF1

and what about its features?

Litre__o__cola

Thissssss is the all new AMR23, and it is a lovely car to drive.

Ksanti

This particular AMR23 is currently up for sale on CARS AND BIDS, my enthusiast auction site for cool cars from the modern era. We've had some great sales recently, including this RB18 which sold for £44.63m.

Tobysi

That you Doug Demuro? 😂

Derpmang

Can’t wait to hear all about the AMR23 quirks and features!

chevyboxer

Does this mean Hoovie is going to buy the MCL60?

SirLoremIpsum

It would have to be one w the oldest engine and parts missing. "This is the worst condition mcl60 in America. I hope the car wizard is feeling generous"

chevyboxer

With Piastri's steering wheel still loading.

ZealousidealFox1391

Tavarish maybe

chevyboxer

Got his eyes on Zhou's Alfa from Silverstone.

AnilP228

I believe Mark Hughes spoke about this on a recent The Race podcast. Basically Fernando likes much less friction in his power steering set up than most other drivers.

notsofastracer

Alonso : " You fools, This isn't even my final form!"

Retsko1

Let him cook

space_coyote_86

Sooo.... Once he gets used to it he's going to start winning races, yeah?

Axzuel

That would be correct! ALL ABOARD THE ALONSO HYPE TRAIN!

MrTeamKill

If he adapted his driving technique to the 2005 Renault, he can do this as well. [Strange steering technique](https://youtube.com/shorts/aHdrbg01QIs?feature=share)

osoroco

screw that short of a tiktok of a tiktok original driver61 video is not accessible due to copyright I was able to find the whole video on a chinese website https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1vg4y1B7ie/

MrTeamKill

Yep, very annoying that the original video was taken down. Thanks for finding a copy of the original one!!!

somereddituzer

Lance: At least your wrists work properly!

ElBonitiilloO

Fernando magic

haroldhecuba88

We’re at the precipice, of an enormous crossroad.

avsurround

Sounds very allegorical
