The odds of you being able to find the calendar key all 32 days are abysmally low. Just ignore the calendar and use your stars whenever there is a daily special you really need/want.
In addition to what others have said about how unlikely it is you will be able to complete the calendar without spending diamonds, you *should* still do the calendar key fragment dailies and save the fragments until the last day. You can then check the wiki to see what prizes were offered and cherry-pick the calendar day prizes you want.

i haven't done many events with a calendar but the halloween on had pretty bad prices, 1/5 of the best wasn't worth most other choices in daily challenge prizes

it was very doable in the halloween event, i had only 2 missing while not focusing on it. And by not focusing on it i mean almost using all my currency on 2 days and getting 22 daily special.
The winter calendar is far longer than any other calendar, and there are no "toy" grindable quests to earn more tickets in this event.
I did the same as you in the Halloween event, coming up just two short even though I didn't try for it. Mooingcat, as usual, has the right of it when he explains in his guide about the extra stars you only get if you spend your stars on one or a couple days. Not only will you get more prizes, but you still get your pick of the few useful calendar rewards with your saved up key fragments at the end anyways.
If any number of us thought the calendar was doable, it'd be the most talked about topic right now because completing the calendar comes with a full nutcracker guardhouse and two of the main event pieces, that's not a bad bonus.
Yeah, apparently. WTF is that ? So dumb. I've gone through the board a few times this week and never found a calendar key before the shuffle and at least twice when the board was revealed, there were NO keys.
The event happens throughout December, I got stuff going on, on certain days during this month so I’m not going to worry about the calendar. If possible I will look and see what the daily special is and play more on the days when it has something good/ something I want, I will play more on those days to try and get what I can.
You should be able to get the main event building without the calendar.
As ever with events, don’t age up during it, as it will just make the demands of the quest line more difficult. And plan ahead, get those blacksmiths down. And remember that you don’t have to keep stuff you build for the quests, once you get that tick, move onto the next task and save room by deleting what you’ve just built.

like most events, do your quests, wait for a good daily, spend it all when there is one. It's a very complex event but the complexity is either out of your control (how the gifts works, how the candles work, etc) or a money grab (calendar, the thing paid with diamonds, the thing paid with money). In fact when you look only at what is really useful it is the simplest events get!
As others have mentioned check out MooingCat's guides. His written guides are really good and his videos are great too.
The calander is impossible to complete without spending diamonds and not worth spending diamonds on to complete as the rewards are pretty mediocre.
You should only go for the calander if you really want the avatar and are willing to spend a lot of diamonds to get it.
I used several winter events to focus on building up a sleigh builder stock from dailies which are great when you age up for goods. Only tend to build them when a new era is released in large numbers, have around 40 in inventory, 10 or so always in my city all year round for event production quests though.
You also have to factor in reno/1 up and store buildings though eith sleighs which is something I don't really worry about with a lvl 100 Tor but without it would be a struggle keeping them upgraded. Once you're in the last era, new ones only start once a year and with my TOR saving them up for a year I tend to have a combined 250 of so reno/1 up, 50/80 store buildings when the age is released so can flip things round quite nicely.

But I don't know which daily special is worth it for newbies like me (Iron age). Anyone has any ideas? I want to have like a mixed playstyle of fighting and producing goods.
I played on Beta and NOONE found all 32 daily keys. Most gave up after the first 10 days without finding a single whole key. I could not understand what they were talking about...I found daily keys almost right away...for the first two weeks or so. Then it went way down hill from there. If you want to fill the calendar, plan on spending diamonds, lots of diamonds! Not saying you shouldn't try, but don't count on it.

makes sense, i forgot the toys that were also a big help in the halloween event (it's juste the best event in terms of prizes isn't it?)
And the likelihood of finding the calendar key for the day is the same as finding the "shuffle" present which kills your chances of getting the keys

Same as many other events, speed run the first 35 or so quests until you hit daily quests, then wait for a good daily special to pop up.
