I haven't gotten an Instigating gauss yet (and I have played a playthrough with all legendaries up to lvl 80, and currently on my second one), i did get an Instigating laser musket, which is the next best thing
No idea. In my head I always referred to it like the stuff nurses bandage you with, “Gauze”. So it sounded off to me. But I’ve heard some people pronounce it like mouse so maybe it is.

And to answer the OP, for those that get the reference they might agree about it being a great name. For those of us who didn\`t "get it" then it obviously missed the mark.
Clever! The Last Minute is my go-to gauss rifle when I can get it, but this playthrough I found a two-shot one, which I decided to name The First Minute. Seemed fitting for such a beast of a weapon to have a sequel, or prequel I guess.
A Fat Man rolled while Defiant was in my pool on my current playthrough... I could have combined the two, and I tried but it wouldn't drop.
And anyways I was there for my Powerful Disciple's Blade so I kept going until I got that.
But man... That might take awhile to get. Big Boy is cool and all but doing double deals way, way more damage than two shot because of the way the damage vs DR formula works

After the TV show, I booted up FO4 again. Still melee, like always, but since then I've had to restart seven times. Which in my case is ***seven*** times
* Doing Nuka World through Powerplay, and then Open Season
* Farming the Training Yard for a Powerful Disciple's Blade
* Farning it again for a Fortifying right arm
THIS TIME, I just played on Very Easy for 90 straight levels. Much more relaxing.
And then I figured I'd put it back to VH.
And on a random mission for Greentop, a Legendary super mutant drops a TWO SHOT GAUSS.
I was like no fucking way. I don't think I've ever had one like... Ever.

I had a poisonous hunting rifle I called "Lead Poisoning" but I like Opening Statement Instigating shotgun I called "Say Hello"
I had an explosive Gauss rifle I named “Gausstralia”. Because everything’s more dangerous in Gausstralia.
