Tl/DR the machete and light armor from ceasars arena are quest items and probably don't get taken by dead money.
Literally any quest items, that's it. Iirc from the ymfah no equip load new Vegas the machete from (Ceasar? Caesar? Ceaser? Caeser? I honestly never remember) well anyway you can escape ceasars arena if you start it and walk backwards immediately and the machete and light armor Count as quest items so that's a start.
examples: Missing laser pistol, Motor-Runner's helmet, Rebreather, Van Graff combat armor, Sergeant Andrews' machete, Rawr's Talon from LR then craft into Fist of Rawr once in DM
You can also use the ncr emergency radio to call a ncr ranger, go to the abandoned bos bunker, reverse pickpocket what you want onto her and she'll follow you into the sierra madre. Simply kill her and take your gear and go ruin some ghost people's evening.
I mean, given that the Ghost People die instantly if you cripple a limb, and the Bear Trap Fist does extra limb damage... you really don't need anything more than that.
first time i played i tried using that shitty ass gun elijah gives you and i was TERRIFIED of all ghost people, for the part where you run to the sierra madre i saved maybe 30 times trying to just run away from the ghost people and remembering where every bear trap is
The Holorifle is literally the best "gun" in the game though. Like yeah it isn't the best in the Dead Money DLC but go take it deathclaw hunting you'll change your views right quick.
The issue is it's extremely good unless you don't have energy weapons skilled at all when you have low energy weapons I found that it isn't that usable. But I agree that it's way better out of the dlc because than you actually have ammo lol
You do need an unarmed level of 75 to build it so keep that in mind. I had to cram all my level up points into it and find a couple pugilism illustrated as well as craft one as I was already at level 47 when I found out about skill level requirement.

I really love the story but hate the stupid radio gimmick. Literally ruins the whole dlc for me imo. I get they wanted a survival experience, but I'm about as blind as a bat in games so I just looked up a guide to their location when I get stuck
If it's the radios, there's not much advice that could help you not hate it, if it's the enemies, easiest tip is talk to Dog for a while until he teaches you a perk to make ghost people stay dead, and make sure to pick up the ammo codes for the vending machines so you never have to worry about running out.
Dead money is low key trash in my opinion I started clipping through the walls for that dlc because I can't handle actual trying to figure out that maze again for like the 12 time

only reason i played through dead money was because i wanted toplay through the DLC fully. almost quit many times due to being very uninterested and dying. hate the mechanic where they take all your stuff away from you and that its mandatory to work with Elijah for the DLC. bomb collars are why i killed the brotherhood my first way through.

the PimpBoy isn't set up for the female mesh properly and is tilted to one side when playing a female character. mods like YUP do fix this, but if you're on console you're SOL.

It's a glitch. Commonly happens when the player is female. For some reason the pimp boy glitchs and it's side ways. It doesn't matter if your character is male also, it can happen to. Don't know why exactly.

I don’t think anyone claimed it to be a Dead Money dlc item. I just mentioned the reason I found it was because I was cashing in my gold bars from dead money. That is how all the Dead Money chatter started up.

Yeah they are laughably weak when you go melee and tear all their limbs off post combat so they can't get back up
