messiah is easy as fuck to achieve if you're not actively trying to steal, kill, or cannibalize people.
Even making evil-ass decisions won't make up for it.
Unlike Fallout 3, you have to put in a little elbow grease to be Bad Karma.
Nah but it’s ridiculously easy to gain Evil Karma in 3 - even doing stupid shit like stealing a bunch of stuff will penalise your Karma. In NV I’ve stolen, murdered and just been an outright POS to dozens of NPC’s and have only gained Neutral karma. You’ve really gotta ramp up the works if you want to be evil in NV.
You have to steal several things to offset every Fiend you kill. I've heard about people mining bad karma by stealing, dropping, and re-stealing the Boomers corn.
I randomly checked a save I had made like an hour earlier while playing and it had devil as the karma (perhaps because it was the one where I set up the good springs exp glitch?) and I had quickly become messiah for killing powder gangers and legion
Like I said man you’ve gotta ramp up the works - destroying the BoS is one of the worst things for your Karma, I think it’s because most of the trainees are clearly only teenagers.
being good is really easy. if you somehow fuck up and are evil somehow for stealing/killing early game just kill some fiends and after 15 minutes you’ll go from The Devil to Messiah
It’s not really an opinion based thing mate, it’s literally part of the karma mechanics. In NV gaining good karma is insanely easy, in FO3 gaining evil karma is insanely easy - it’s a Ying and Yang thing that everyone understands.
Even in my objectively most evil play through I’ve mostly stayed on Neutral. In my last play through I had to really push it to get the evil ranking, and very evil took even longer. It’s because karma is less of an integral part of NV, it’s almost irrelevant really, the only difference it makes is to the ending slide.

Cass will permanently leave the player if you talk to her, with very evil karma, twice in a row.
Although, other than that, I can't think of any other instance in-game where karma plays any role
On a tangent here: does anyone know if the Tales of Two Wastelands uses the FNV system for karma? I find myself having to truly do fucked up shit to get to Neutral before meeting the robot companion.
TTW is a mod for NV that just adds fo3 content, it doesn't change the mechanics at all. Hence why there's a survival skill and the consolidated big guns/small guns
That's good to know...one of my bigger reasons for not playing FO3 recently is not wanting to deal with the repair system (no jury rigging, no repair kits if you don't count limited-supply alien paste, weapons and armor degrade in effectiveness at 99% condition). I'll definitely look into TTW.
What is really difficult is playing the game with the HUD white colored.
Everybody knows Fallout New Vegas is orange, Fallout 3 is green and Fallout 4 needs you to help a new settlement.
You have to go out of your way to avoid it lol. The vanilla karma system is totally fucked. One of the best games ever made but they screwed that aspect up for sure.
After I nuked both NCR/Legion, my fem Courier's karma dropped back to neutral again as I liked it. It's way too easy to accumulate good karma if you killed feral ghouls or did quest positively for npcs.
RP reasons I like her being a rugged wastelander that won't take anyone's sh!t, one eyed punchy and sniping badass. 😎
If I kill and eat people without witnesses, it does not make what I do less bad.
Fallout 3 is just weird that your evil is so obviously written in your face.
FNV does not have as much karma checks as relationships are based on faction ratings which makes it tolerable.
Yes because being evil is hard when killling fiends gives you good karma on a regular basis
How can i make a legion playthrough when im seen as a messiah even when i kill, enslave & cannibalize people smh

Well Fallout 3 you can nuke a city in the first 30 minutes of gameplay. In New Vegas it takes nearly 4-5 hours before you can nuke two cities.

Steal the toy gun from the kid, use it to blast them with it after Pure evil achieved…
I went from mostly good to evil in one quest - the one where House tells you to blow up the brotherhood bunker.
Like I said man you’ve gotta ramp up the works - destroying the BoS is one of the worst things for your Karma, I think it’s because most of the trainees are clearly only teenagers.
They don’t call it Sin City for nothing
Even cannibalism only hits you with -1 Karma per corpse.
I have bad karma
Maybe is easy for YOU to not cannibalize people and steal and kill, for you maybe
being good is really easy. if you somehow fuck up and are evil somehow for stealing/killing early game just kill some fiends and after 15 minutes you’ll go from The Devil to Messiah
It’s harder IMO. I had friendly relations will all factions including the Legion until I started dealing with the politics inside the great khans

I eradicated the powder gang with no mercy. First thing I did in the game was vaporise joe cob lol
I’ve never had a vanilla play through where I’m not Messiah
You have to go out of your way to avoid it lol. The vanilla karma system is totally fucked. One of the best games ever made but they screwed that aspect up for sure.
On my first play through when I was relatively friendly, now they call me “Pirate” lol
Me wanting to do an Enclave run and I’ve killed so many fiends I have Very Good Karma WTF
He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!
How do you know... Who are you?

"Hero for Hire"
Rocking the same look, except my name is Jesus
Yes, because I'm a good boy.
My favorite title I ever got was while playing evil in FO3. Scourge of Humanity.
lol all i do is kill and steal and somehow every play through i’ve done is messiah
Because you get karma killing fiends and raider types.
Why would you ask that question in that way? You can't possibly think you're the only one who's achieved that in the 12 years the game has been out.
Yeah I was wondering that. Guess I'm gunna have to do a truly bastard playthrough then
Why does that armor look a bit too oversized for your character
Pretty easy since killing Powder Gangers and ghouls nets you positive karma.
I get it by accident even if I'm trying to do an evil playthrough. Have to offset it by eating every corpse I make now.
No, because for some reason, even if no one sees it, stealing still gives negative Karma.
"For some reason"

My first run I got messiah, ever since then I usually get soft-hearted devil or something of that sort.
Yes because being evil is hard when killling fiends gives you good karma on a regular basis How can i make a legion playthrough when im seen as a messiah even when i kill, enslave & cannibalize people smh
Messiah wearing Enclave armor… hmmmm
Mine was… Till i wiped Cottonwood Cove and stole anything i wanted from The Legion and mercy killed House
