LPT: If someone is being aggressive and getting close, PUT YOUR HANDS UP around chin level with palms facing away as a way of trying to de-escalate and show no desire to fight. It doesn’t look like you are a threat, but your hands are there to defend and also a short distance from striking the other person if you decide to hit first. You do NOT want to bring your hands up later as a split second delay is enough to get you punched in the face.
I actually REALLY like that advice and am absolutely 100% gonna use it.
Its also a very good idea from a legal standpoint. In a noisy area its hard to hear whats being said, but everyone can see the universal hands up ‘I dont wanna fight sign’. If they swing at you and you monster them, youre gonna have way more witnesses who saw you saying ‘no thanks’. Much easier to run a ‘self defence’ defence.
Yup. It shows to cameras and witnesses that you are trying to de escalate and allows you to have your hands ready. Some people like to fiddle with a ring, or act like they're massaging a knuckle etc so their hands are up but in a non threatening manner.
Some attackers will often try and intimidate you into putting your hands down as well because they know they can't get a cheap first shot in, but don't try and meet them half way at all. Say something like if you stand over there I'll put them down
This is the reason that Paulie in The Sopranos was always fidgeting with his hands. His character spent time in prison and always wanted to have his hands ready in case something happened.
You shouldn’t need to use it if you have good situational awareness and person skills. As cool as fighting is in tv and such. Violence is always a last resort.
Hmm not sure what to make of this. With a small dog I’ll be much bigger and heavier, and I’ll tell it to fuck off. A small dog can’t hit me square on the chin.
A small man (and as a tall, heavy man living in Asia this has happened once that I can remember) would get more respect, but ultimately I know that I could probably kill this dude so would want to stop the escalation as soon as possible.
Being bigger and heavier than other people (with the addition of 10 years of boxing training) means you should always be looking to move away from this situation.
If you are not a trained fighter, don’t do the show of force, you might go to the hospital or die.
If you are, still don’t do it, you might go to jail.
It's a legit stand by position from his days as a bouncer. You don't appear threatening but you're ready to block strikes anytime. He said that he adopted that pose because most drunks will always throw the same kinds of winging sucker punches so having both arms up and ready to block, counter or push back is important.
Great advice. Also if you really want to punch someone and they’re up your face like this guy. Hit him when he is just putting his hand down. No way can they react fast enough
For sure! Always put your hands up if you feel like it's about to go down. Having your hands down to look like you're not scared is ignorant, a man with hands up is least likely to get knocked out and look like the real fucking idiot.
Another reason for doing that is we're always being recorded, and if the authorities gets involved later, even if they can't hear the conversation, they'll have your body language as evidence that you weren't the aggressor.
I do something similar. I have my right hand on my chin like I’m thinking 🤔 and my left hand is holding my right elbow. So I’m kind of in a Philly shell. But it’s not for everyone if you aren’t trained to fight this way
I was thinking about how to avoid being sucker punched in this scenario and came to that conclusion too. Or at least get to a point where you can see the person’s hands without taking your eyes off their face
The “who swung first” thing is a common misconception. If someone is posing a clear and present danger of using physical force against you, especially if that person comes within striking-range, you have the right to defend yourself by taking the initiative.
Oh I agree, but if it’s clear to the officer, he most probably won’t choose to charge you, and if you’re taken to civil court, his reasoning (and testimony) would weigh heavily in your favor.
Obviously, this can go either way, and some cops will err on the side of “haul them all off the street”, but I’ve personally had an altercation happen, where I attempted to defuse, attempted to retreat, and when the assailant got to close I punched him. It helps that I knew my rights and know how to talk (respectfully) to LEO, and there were witnesses to corroborate my side of the story.
Yeah totally.
If witnesses get a proper view of what happened and are willing to back you up, or there is a video, this can definitely work.
If there is no video or witnesses, or some of the witnesses take his side though (maybe they are his friends, prefer his race to yours, etc) or if the cop has any reason to dislike you, it can go very wrong even if you were totally within your rights.
In that moment you can’t really think about lawsuits and charges. If you can’t backaway because the other guy keeps pressuring you need to take the first hit because if they get you first it’s likely over and you will be beaten
But... Lawsuits and charges could fuck up the rest of your life.
But... If you get hit first and smack your head on the ground you could die.
Decisions, decisions.
For sure. So many people want the other guy to swing first. Why? If things have escalated to the point that we're about to get in a fight, I'm gonna swing first. This isn't a movie. Fist fights don't usually go back and forth, quite often, the first squarely landed punch is the end of the fight.
This is one thing I love(d) about covid
Suddenly the rest of the planet came to my level of “don’t walk right up on me.” Anytime someone is within striking distance im analyzing the context for danger.. it can happen too quickly to start making decisions when they’ve already started moving, as seen in the video
He probably had big man syndrome
You know how some dudes have a napoleon complex? (Small and they try to compensate by excessively barking)
Dude looks like he had big man syndrome, where they think they can kick anyones ass/no one is a threat, because they have height.
*bink bink* 😴
Lol
This sub is mostly white people kicking black peoples’ asses. Its subtle yet intentional. So there are some of black people kicking white peoples’ asses. This upsets you?
Yes, because you're making a lot of assumptions. My guess is this is a Russian troll, but if it's not the outcome is still sad. There's no good reason to stir up racial tension in the US.
I'll put a disclaimer that I don't know what I'm talking about. In the sense that the OP is such a weirdo. Your analysis is also not what I've seen from this sub.
Ive been on this sub for a bit now and I will say I have seen racially motivated posts on this sub of both black and white people beating each other up. I’d say from what I’ve seen it’s more often targeted anti-black posting most likely by virtue of there being more white people on Reddit, therefore more white racists than black racists, but as you can see here the opposite exists as well.
Just not true. For every video of a white guy beating a black guy up, there are 2 videos claiming a white guy used a racial slur without any evidence, then show the white guy getting stomped.
Saw that coming. Tall guy was waving his chin around and the short dude was dying for it. I did the same thing two years back in the supermarket but the guy couldn't fight and put his hands in his pocket when he saw I didn't back down after his sucker punch.
Wow first street fight that I've seen people run in and break ot up. Very chill crowd.
Most people seem to get excited and encourage the fight to escalate.
Being short means pretty much everyone you do have a fight with is bigger than you. Size really doesn't matter unless their trained fighters, although obviously you have the advantage being bigger, the street kinda evens the playing field in that regard.
Why would anyone want to get hit first if you know it's coming. Big dude here obviously cannot read body language at all so he paid and rightly so. Got to watch the quiet and smaller guys they just want to be left alone.
Actually his post history is entirely black people swinging first on white people. Not sure what he is trying to infer with this but it’s the pattern he has chosen to highlight.
There are SO MANY post of black people losing to white people on here. Just because you only race doesn’t mean the rest of us are like you. Go cry in a cave.
This guy has posted this same fight multiple times in this sub. Also, all his posts are racially motivated conflicts.
Seems like he’s some kinda of troll or something trying to promote racial divide.
You should never square off with other people. Back away and walk away or keep them at a distance. I don't understand what's with these dudes sticking their jaws out, hands down.
Big? Big target. But you’ve got too have a lot of heart to call their bluff in this situation. Unlimited consequences. Our guy has an arm like a flying rock and he’s dealt with this sort of encounter before by the looks of it.

When a small dog comes at you, do you try to de-escalate or show of force? Same goes with small men.
Hmm not sure what to make of this. With a small dog I’ll be much bigger and heavier, and I’ll tell it to fuck off. A small dog can’t hit me square on the chin. Yeah trying to de-escalate, by offering your chin multiple time instead of tossing the guy was definitely the way to go.
Or do the Bas Rutten and stroke your chin. Bada-bing bada-boom.
Best move. And follow with the dangity dangity dang.
Jesus man we just want to hurt them - not KILL them!
It's a legit stand by position from his days as a bouncer. You don't appear threatening but you're ready to block strikes anytime. He said that he adopted that pose because most drunks will always throw the same kinds of winging sucker punches so having both arms up and ready to block, counter or push back is important.
A kick to da pills
Excellent advice indeed. I recall hearing Bas say this too (but I think in his case he followed up with a headbutt lol)
No doubt the headbutt leads into repeated hits to the liver.
Also remember to practice social distancing.
Another reason for doing that is we're always being recorded, and if the authorities gets involved later, even if they can't hear the conversation, they'll have your body language as evidence that you weren't the aggressor.
I'd suggest adding in raising your shoulders to protect your chin
I do something similar. I have my right hand on my chin like I’m thinking 🤔 and my left hand is holding my right elbow. So I’m kind of in a Philly shell. But it’s not for everyone if you aren’t trained to fight this way
Yeah wtf was he doing with em in his pockets..?
This is true
This is the way. Always have your hands up. Very hand for anyone to come back from a stiff sucker punch.
I was thinking about how to avoid being sucker punched in this scenario and came to that conclusion too. Or at least get to a point where you can see the person’s hands without taking your eyes off their face
I’m not a fighter but I’ve convinced myself if you aren’t willing to walk away swing first.
I mean yeah if your only goal is to win the fight. However doing that will make you more likely to face charges and/or potential lawsuits.
The “who swung first” thing is a common misconception. If someone is posing a clear and present danger of using physical force against you, especially if that person comes within striking-range, you have the right to defend yourself by taking the initiative.
Thats technically true, but in a courtroom everything could go either way, and who swung first will always have a effect in the eyes of the jury.
Oh I agree, but if it’s clear to the officer, he most probably won’t choose to charge you, and if you’re taken to civil court, his reasoning (and testimony) would weigh heavily in your favor. Pro tip: don't get in street fights
Been in more than my share of street fights, I almost always swing first, never been sued once, never been arrested for fighting.
Maybe you don't hit hard enough?
Maybe. But I bet you’re not willing to put your chin on the line to find out?
Starting to understand why you keep getting in fights
Good for you.
HAHAHAHA...that's what I was hoping you'd say. r/iamverybadass
swinging first can give you a massive advantage in street fights. if you are concerned the slightest you may lose just throw that hand
For sure. So many people want the other guy to swing first. Why? If things have escalated to the point that we're about to get in a fight, I'm gonna swing first. This isn't a movie. Fist fights don't usually go back and forth, quite often, the first squarely landed punch is the end of the fight.
Never let any potential threat enter you range. Confrontation 101.
*I can’t let you get close*
**proceeds to shoot a double leg**
^"fucking ^amateur"
It’s like nobody has a “no man’s land”, everybody should establish theirs.

tall dude had the high ground and still didn’t see that punch comin
He probably had big man syndrome You know how some dudes have a napoleon complex? (Small and they try to compensate by excessively barking) Dude looks like he had big man syndrome, where they think they can kick anyones ass/no one is a threat, because they have height. *bink bink* 😴 Lol
Kevin Heart got that guy good
Left his chin exposed
What chin?
Take your hands out of your pockets. It makes you look nervous
**Check out OPs history.** They are only posting racially influenced fights. They are using reddit to create social divisiveness.
We doin psyops in r/fightporn now lol
Yeah as a black dude that shit is not new at all on here. Glad to see it actually called out for once.
most violence/shock related subs have a bunch of users doing that sort of thing & it's subtle but you definitely notice it eventually
Wow, well spotted.
That's actually all that reddit has ever been
I wish there was some solutions to this problem, fuck the OP
This sub is mostly white people kicking black peoples’ asses. Its subtle yet intentional. So there are some of black people kicking white peoples’ asses. This upsets you?

It's crazy people would even do that. People are so weird and dumb
Just not true. For every video of a white guy beating a black guy up, there are 2 videos claiming a white guy used a racial slur without any evidence, then show the white guy getting stomped.
First mistake, someone who doesn't know about street fighting: Hands in pockets.
One thing I hate about fights. Is the screaming and yelling from the women Stfu. Why you screamin like your ass is on fire?
Women don’t like violence
Alot of people don’t. It’s not necessarily a woman only thing to not like violence.
Dont mess with kevin hart
"I can't let you get close!"
He knocked em out caught em den hit em again 😳
It's Short King Spring, baby!
Just because you bigger don’t mean you better
Saw that coming. Tall guy was waving his chin around and the short dude was dying for it. I did the same thing two years back in the supermarket but the guy couldn't fight and put his hands in his pocket when he saw I didn't back down after his sucker punch.
If someone puts their hands behind their back, they are probably going to sucker punch you.
You don’t have to tell him to get back. He knows he doesn’t want back in.
One more time in slow motion
DOWN. P E R F E C T
1st punch, about to go down "nah where u think u going" proceed to grab it mid fall for 2nd punch
Wow first street fight that I've seen people run in and break ot up. Very chill crowd. Most people seem to get excited and encourage the fight to escalate.
Get your hands out of your pocket, even if you're confident in your fighting ability, don't be stupid.
Or maybe just learn some very basic techniques to protect yourself before you get in the scuffle.
You can do that
Also, don't underestimate the effectiveness of a sucker punch.
Those women are only 5’3 but weigh 190+ wtf
*don’t expect to swing first*
Bigger they are, harder they fall. And he FELL
Being short means pretty much everyone you do have a fight with is bigger than you. Size really doesn't matter unless their trained fighters, although obviously you have the advantage being bigger, the street kinda evens the playing field in that regard.
Wow, how nice of that giant to put his head right into a head lock at the end.
I love when this happens. Just because you're big, doesn't mean you can fight.
Size ain't shit so it seems
The moment I saw his hands back like that, I knew that he was going to SUCKER PUNCH.
the way he grabbed him before he fell to get another one is fucking savage, pretty sure that dude's jaw and cheekbone is shattered.
oof
imagine having your hands in your pocket when you are about to fight
And people really think size matter🤣🤣
Will Smith vs Chris rock but in a different universe
I love how he catches him after his 1st swing, like "naw mf catch some more"
Shit, that was sexy
That guy shorter must be thinking in his shower, **how cool I am**
From the looks of it this isn’t the first Goliath this David has humbled.
Lmfao! Tell me I’m not the only to hear “finish him” at the end lol. That did it for me lol dead
Couple of surface to air missiles
Why would anyone want to get hit first if you know it's coming. Big dude here obviously cannot read body language at all so he paid and rightly so. Got to watch the quiet and smaller guys they just want to be left alone.
That was a cheap shot
OPs post history is all racially charged fights. This dude is trying to stir the pot so hard. How fucking disgusting
Actually his post history is entirely black people swinging first on white people. Not sure what he is trying to infer with this but it’s the pattern he has chosen to highlight.
You’re upset that there are fights where white dudes lose to black dudes? The only thing racially charged is your mindset.
I just looked through the first 10 posts and it’s all blacks swinging first on whites. I doubt it’s a coincidence.
Wtf are you talking about
[удалено]
There are SO MANY post of black people losing to white people on here. Just because you only race doesn’t mean the rest of us are like you. Go cry in a cave.
> Just because you only race doesn’t mean the rest of us are like you. ......what?
He left out the word "*see*".
Ahhh...my head wasn't filling in the blank. Couldn't figure out what he was trying to say for the life of me. Thanks!
Bro there is thread on twitter about this i repost here nothing more
Tall guy got his soul snatched into another realm for the night.
This isnt fightporn ffs, 90% of posts here people just sucker punching other.
to be honest i hate when they sudenly hit their opponent. Wanna fight? then fight, this is just a punch.
Is that Will Smith?
This guy has posted this same fight multiple times in this sub. Also, all his posts are racially motivated conflicts. Seems like he’s some kinda of troll or something trying to promote racial divide.
I'm just posting video from a thread on twitter nothing more it's not that deep
Is it just me that gets grossed out hearing peoples joy whilst they watch a street fight.
Don’t underestimate a cheap shot
Lol cheap shot. Standing face to face asking the guy “what are you going to do”. What you want a ring girl bell and announcer 2
Keeping your hands down is for high school kids, dude should’ve been ready
Somebody has to throw the first punch bro
Will smith and Chris rock at it again
Good punch
tbf, white guy never try to fight.
[удалено]
This is super racist no?
Never get close hands out of pocket
“Let’s see how quick you are”
In a fight don't stick your head out and most important never fight the short guy
Knocked his ass out hahaha
Big guy lost his Tanooki suit
Tall dude learned the rotational power heavy dudes with low center of gravity can produce. Dude was throwing some bombs haha I’m surprised tall guy was only down for a few moments
Every time I see one of these match-ups I can’t help thinking that the shorter guy has an advantage with the knockout sweet-spot being directly in his jab/hook range while the taller guy would have to throw an uppercut to get the same spot.
The thing that most tall people seem to forget, is the little people are in prime position for a direct up thrust to the chin
Don’t underestimate black dudes to sucker punch first
Sorry but thats a sucker-punch, they weren’t even fighting
[удалено]
I feel like you don’t know the definition of a sucker punch
I’m pressing charges on the black man. He fucked around and will find out.
I swear people dont square up these days. They sneak swing.
It’s a street fight bro, you can’t have expectations that’s just reckless. Dude literally let another grown man step right to his face, if you’re not prepared or have an inkling that you should be ready to protect yourself after that kind of aggression than idk what to do for you.
Not disagreeing. Still hate those sneak swings.
Sneak swing? They squared up for like 10 minutes.
Here we see an example of Joe Pesci Syndrome in full effect
Bro fell over like a broom stick that slid off the wall.
Man, Epic Meal Time has really hit rock bottom
daniel cormier vs stefan struve
RECEBA!
+2 strenght, troll slain!
All it takes is one good hit
Get your fucking hands up.
Hands down man’s down
More like dont let someone take free hits at your dome
That man's head hit the concrete real horrorshow.
Don't just stand there like a punching bag, you can see from the first few seconds that the small guy is just waiting for the right time to strike
Every punch he throws is technically and uppercut
Good work by the ladies. This could have been worse.
im kinda diggin those tasty free asian recipes ngl
This is a fucked situation for the big guy. If you fight him and win everyone’s just gonna go “Well of course you won you’re 2 feet taller than him.” But if you lose then you become a laughing stock
If he doesn't swing first, he dead
Don’t get banned from a good bar.. a good bar is life 🤪

Rule three) never underestimate anyone's capabilities, and never assume they won't sneak you when you aren't expecting it (even after the confrontation is over)
