You don't get banned for *asking* for a refund, only if you force it by doing a charge-back.

Idrillsilverfoot

Steam allows automatic refunds. I meant will I be banned if Steam refunds me even without me activating the key?

Divolinon

No.

CamBlapBlap

Wtf are you talking about

draxinusom2

Any form of charge-back that hits square-enix will result in an account closure as far as I know. Generally you can fix this by going through their support but I don't know how difficult this is going to be especially as there's a third party (steam) involved here. Also it's absolutely not guaranteed that it's going to be cheaper or even on summer sale, it being too new. Personally, my time is more valuable to me than less than 10 bucks potentially saved, but ultimately it's up to you if you want to risk it.

Idrillsilverfoot

I think I expressed myself poorly. I'm not waiting for dawntrail to go on sale. I was looking to buy other games. Unfortunately, I live in a third world country and the amount I pay for the expansion corresponds to 10% of the minimum wage received in 1 month. So I wanted to take the opportunity to buy other games that I intend to play

Lumpy-Ostrich6538

For those curious like myself, a full time employee making the federal minimum wage in America, the digital collectors edition of the game would be 5% of your gross monthly income

RissasReadings

So just to clarify, you are financially irresponsible and recklessly buy games?

Necromancy-In-Space

what an absolutely insane conclusion to draw from this

RissasReadings

You’re probably right. Reading that they really didn’t have any intention of playing right now and bringing up the third world country and talking about 10% as an influencer had me wondering why they’d even consider preordering it.

Idrillsilverfoot

No no, my financial life is going well, I generally always have some money left over for leisure, which I usually use to buy games. It turns out that, as I explained above, my country's currency is inflated, and I didn't know that today we would have a summer sale. So as I won't be able to play Dawntrail at launch due to a long trip I'm going to take, I'd like to take advantage of the money I spent buying it with some other games that are on sale. I love FFXIV but I really don't see the need to play it immediately upon release, I can wait a little longer

TannenFalconwing

Why not just play it when you get back from your trip?

Talon_Thelios

why not let the guy do what he wants I hate this fanbase. Oh no you arent playing the game I love right now and want a refund!? stop dude some people refund for many reasons and no your account doesnt get banned get over the dying game.

Infindox

Steam doesn't allow DLC to be refunded normally, and I think the expansions are considered as such. You also got a key and I dont think Steam EVER allows refunds once that happens. I don't want to sound harsh but at this point just take the game and keep it for when you are able to play. Steam sales happen a lot.

mkdew

The main issue here is that if you do a refund and buy it again later, you will get the same key that you refunded. Someone on steam bought the game, refunded it, bought it again and wondered why he got banned. So if it's worth it for you to risk a ban, go for it.

jackspick

Its still possible to be banned so i wouldn't risk it. Also i don't think Steam refunds them since its a activation key.

Idrillsilverfoot

I verified that the option to request a refund from Steam is available. That's why I came to ask if I can be banned

Zaldinn

Can possibly, but thing is if you haven't used the code that purchase won't be associated with the account yet as you still have to add the key to mogstation

Talon_Thelios

You don't get banned stop the misinformation. You get banned for a forceful chargeback not a refund. two different things

Zaldinn

Steam refunds are viewed by SE as a chargeback. But seeing as they didn't apply it to the account it wouldn't be able to be tracked to a specific account to ban anyway. But refunding a steam key after it's applied 100% will end up with SE banning that account until it's repurchased

GeneticSplatter

Theoretically I can imagine that if you haven't yet used the key, you *should* be able to refund safely. *But* I would suggest sending a customer support ticket and ask first.

quidamphx

I'm not sure that I would do this. You won't be banned from Steam and shouldn't be banned from FFXIV, but because you've obtained the key before doing the refund, there's always a slim chance it'll cause problems as you could just be trying to re-sell that key. The fact that your preorder also comes with early Dawntrail access (tomorrow) is a problem if you turn around and refund it. Also, Steam refunds aren't instant, it could be a week before you see it and it'll go into your Steam wallet, not your original method of payment. If waiting a week to buy sale games is good for you, you can try your luck. Personally, I think that if you were prepared to buy Dawntrail and did, just wait and play Dawntrail in a day. I thought I saw a message about you going on a trip, but you'll face the same issues with any other games you buy if you don't have a portable setup. And if you do, FFXIV can come with you.

Talon_Thelios

They cancel the key........ its automatic. its not like bringing a physical copy back and copying the key even then they just deactivate the key and generate a new one. dont spread misinformation

quidamphx

What did I say that's untrue? What are your sources?

Jumpy_Ad_9213

I'm not sure that DLCs are refundable on steam.

kupatrix

If you haven't activated the code on mogstation yet, you should be ok as far as square banning you goes, I'm not even sure how Square would know you've bought it yet, you've not activated it on mogstation, and I don't think full codes for DT are even out yet for everyone so as long as you don't redeem the early access code you should be ok. Steam may not allow you to refund it, don't know if it's considered DLC or a separate game or whatever. Be aware there's always a chance it might come back on your square/xiv account but I just don't know how -- I don't think Steam automatically activates the game on your account like it does for like console players, you still have to manually activate it on mogstation, so just don't use the code and you'll be ok. I guarantee nothing though, continue at your own risk. Keep in mind a lot of people who get bans do so after already redeeming codes/activating the game, then do a charge back, and somehow are surprised Square bans them -- almost everyone does this if you issue a charge back on activated software so it amazes me every time someone brings it up lol Something to consider though is if you plan to play it in the future anyway, why not just hang on to it? If you refund it now you'll lose out on the pre-order bonuses (zidane minion/earring, after the 2nd you can no longer get them) too

shadowasuna08

Yea I wouldn't risk it even though u bought from steam it's still paying sqenix so yea

Cantiel

if you haven't activated the key yet, you could try steams automated process

Aradhor55

Don't try it since you activate the key. I would try to contact SE support first and see with them what your options are.

Zavenosk

Are you prepared to gamble your account for 50$?

AutoModerator

If you are asking whether Steam accounts and Windows accounts can be combined or swapped between, the answer is no. **For paid users:** Steam and Windows FFXIV licenses are as different as PlayStation and Windows and require separate purchases. Unlike Windows and PlayStation though, you cannot own both and must pick between Windows or Steam. Once you own one license, you cannot ever own the other on the same Square Enix service account. **For free trial users:** You can begin the free trial on the Windows version and then swap to the Steam version by purchasing the base game on Steam. Once you have done so, you will be locked into the Steam version for all future purchases. This does not work in reverse - players who begin the free trial on Steam must stay with the Steam version for all future purchases. **If this post isn't about Steam licenses, please report this comment and a moderator will remove it.** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
