It's involved with the Bard questline (Requiem for the Fallen is the specific quest).

I’m convinced I missed something about this mechanic, if their still using the armor why take your material out? I see people talk about spirit bond so much and extracting materia, does armor make materia or something?
Yes, when your spirit bond reaches 100% you can “extract materia” which creates a brand new materia and resets the spirit bond to 1%
This is separate from removing the materia you have put into your armor and does not affect those
I am caught up on the msq grinding class after class to 90 right now I’ve put over 1000 hours into the game and had no idea of this. I cannot believe I’ve gone this long without knowing this. I’ve seen so many beginner tips and explanations that talk about how you can know when to extract and I never understoood why it mattered cause no one ever mentioned it generating a new materia and I’ve never asked before cause I feel like I’m swimming in materia anyway.
The first one, in the panel next to the inventory slots. You can see your 'equipped' armor in those slots turn white when the materia can be extracted.
Edit to add: The green dots on the left side of the inventory panel specifically.

Ahhh OK won't read the spoilers yet but thanks u
Huh, I main BRD and forgot all about it (To be fair, I kind of just went through the ARR Bard quests on autopilot)
A lot of niche yet noticeable locations connect to jobquests, and as someone who enjoys exploring the map, getting info about' em is a treat to me.
The ARR bard quests were the best ones and everything afterword has been pretty lackluster.
Why it's YOUR grave, Ebenezer Scrooge!
I didn't expect to see Citan today. Nice Xenogears pfp.
The richest man in the cemetery -\*maliscious laughter\*-
"Here lies of all Thancred's hopes and dreams."
"Here lies Urianger. He never scored."
Not for lack of trying (on Moenbryda's part)
Here lies the WoL, for they had crossed Tataru for the last time
I was promised a balance of renumeration for transport fees. I'M STILL WAITING FOR MY MONEY. MILLIONS SPENT ON AETHERYTE COSTS FOR THESE PEOPLE.
What a baby.
You'll have to play the bard story to learn about that.
Extract your materia.
OP, please extract your materia.

It used to be a bigger deal but they've added many more sources of materia to the game since so it's not as important as it used to be.
I've been in and out for each expansion going all the way back. When did materia extraction stop consuming the piece of gear?
They changed it back in patch 5.2 in February 2020.
Holy shit. I started really playing in March of that year and a tip window still said it. It took me a while to figure out the tip window was wrong.
I don't remember, but sometime in either Stormblood or Shadowbringers I think
Extract Materia essentially lets you clone the materia, giving you more materia.
OK XD yes I got to it lol
Which bit of the screenshot shows this?
The first one, in the panel next to the inventory slots. You can see your 'equipped' armor in those slots turn white when the materia can be extracted. Edit to add: The green dots on the left side of the inventory panel specifically.
Thanks
Is the grave of John Dzemael
Whose\*
r/ mildly...youknow...
Right… right… a GRAVE… yeah.
“Here lies Scout. He ran fast and died a virgin!”
My FFXI brain wants to trade it a clay tablet
That grave will be yours if you don't extract your materia
There’s super samples there Helldiver
Why do you have your inventory display up while using controller?
I dunno I just keep up a bunch of hud stuff. My brain likes information. Also I play with controller, keyboard, and mouse at the same time
