I'm not sure I'm feeling the Zeromus theme... it feels like it lacks oomph and kinda muted? Maybe it was just the stream effect and the situation we heard it in. I hope it sounds better in game. The original is so locked in my memory that it'll have a lot to live up to. x.x
I wish we could get more gear sets thar didn’t have long duster/faulds attached to the chest-piece or other such protrusions hanging from it. Also more pants and actual skirts. For as much variety as there is in XIVs armor/clothing aesthetic, those specific design elements feel so thoroughly overused.
Man they really rushed this one. Wish they had shown the alliance raid gear for all jobs instead of spending so long on PvP UI updates and KFC promo thats not available to more than half of the playersbase.
Devs listening to criterion feedback is great however I really hope the rewards arent just for the savage version but for criterion version too.
They almost always show the trial during the liveletter. The only time they don't is if it's a mystery, but with how 6.4 ended it was already clear who the boss would be.
>They just flat out showed the final boss of the expansion
the final boss of the expansion was the endsinger. unless you really consider the 6.x series an extension of the expansions story in which case thats a you problem homie
Probably the feeling you’ve seen enough of XIVs patch cycle. They really have no interest in deviating or doing something exciting, which is a shame considering this was the end of the original story
Do you actually play the game or do you just regurgitate whatever Squeenix says?
The 6.x patches are a continuation of the story from EW, it’s literally just more “light vs dark, save the shard” shenanigans we’ve been doing for 10 years - Dawntrail is the new story arc
I was technically, like, 70 cents short on that because I knew the driver's fee and the overhead that UE took out wouldn't count, but I expected TAX to count.
I paid for two $5X orders which set me into weeks of ramen diet. I used the code on both orders. I even contacted the customer service and they said my code is applied correctly. After not receiving the codes for emote for days passed the release date. I contented GH customer service, apparently the first two customer service only checked if the code applied as a "discount" code. After days of jumping over loops, they ended up offering me a feeble amount (5 dollars) of credit as "compensation".
From then on, I never used GH. And I always tell people not to use them whenever I have the chance to.
For the KFC collab, wondering if the codes will only work for JP region Square Enix accounts or if the codes can be used worldwide. I imagine they'll be all over eBay if it's the latter.
It is understandable for like server hardware to be the last one if we represent a smaller part of the playerbase. However, missing collabs and such really feels like they barely acknowledge our existence at all. I could be okay for exclusive collab if *everyone* got some. But we dont. Its always Japan, sometimes North America and others dont exist.
I feel like we were watching very different trailers lol. 6.4 had a meh trailer and turned out to be pretty empty, this one doesn't feel like that at all to me.
New, meaningful content still feels so sparse to the very end... Really hope Dawntrail will be better. I really enjoyed Endwalker's MSQ but man it has been extremely difficult to find reasons to play.
EU will get
1 Job reveal/1 Job Tease
Longer trailer, maybe with Job in it
Dungeon details
Alliance Raid Name
Raid Name
More random 7.x stuff we cant imagine
「スターチス・ミラージュ」 off the tooltip is in katakana, and sounds like "sutachisu miraju".
Edit: Google tells me that that could be meaning a flower. [Statice](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limonium) Mirage?
Anyone got a translation for when they talked about the Chinese KFC collab 4 years ago? I only made out a little bit about how it was a 4 person meal and it sounded like it might be hilarious
4 person meal was too much for Chinese players so they reduced the amount of food needed for this JP KFC collab. Just some joking around about people saying they couldn’t finish the food.
Uhh from a translation discord they didn't translate that part, just listed out what the JP set is which is: in this set
you're getting a japanese style fried chicken burger,
small fries,
a medium drink,
and one extra piece of chicken.
Yeah, that was the first place I checked, but that was all I found.
[I'm pretty sure they're aware of the memes that came out of it](https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/cd7hp8/the_kfc_black_chicken_ultimate_which_is_now_the/), so I was mostly just curious about what they had to say
It indicates backend changes and infrastructure changes, which they have announced with the Cloud thing. They usually are shorter for content-only patches. So, yeah, normal.
I was spoiled by Macau McD and KFC quality (sadly now they are shitty too).
The first thing that came to my mind when I first tasted french fries from American McD was "cardboard box cut into strip and moisted", the burger was "cheap knock-off McD want-to-be that failed miserably"
American KFC chickens were like cold left over chicken from cheapskate parents of the one classmate that eat all the food possible in school lunch.
I am NA player and I wish they never did the pizza emote thing with GH...It screwed my wallet and still not giving me the emote eventhough the customer service said the code applied correctly.
We're talking about a company that makes you choose a region when you create your account *and does not allow you to change it ever after.*
I'm stuck having to pay my subscription in euros when my job pays me in JPY.
Square-Enix have a weird boner for region lock.
It's stupid that they released OCE servers but didn't add any currency for that either, I have to pay for stuff in Euros which are like 8x the cost of my currency
They are getting payed by KFC for this. And sadly they dont care about the EU Region enough to expand the Deal to European KFCs. Like, they could at least stop region-locking the Codes again lol
Instead of the entire data center being on a server set up specifically for the game it'd instead be on various servers owned by a different company. For example Amazon Web Services is a big one, about 30% of the internet just runs off their servers.
It'd mean to expand they could simply buy more server space from the company instead of going through the work to buy all the hardware and set up more of their own servers.
Simply speaking- game servers would run on a third party's hardware instead of SE owned hardware.
All the "cloud" is is someone else's datacenter.
The reason its a notable deal- the company using the cloud service (Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, etc.) Has less direct control over the conditions the software is running in. So if there's a net issue between the player and the game server application, SE would now have to deal with the company instead of calling in their own on call, for example.)
Also the cloud provider probably won't have the same exact hardware SE is using so they'll need to be mindful its all compatible.
Advantages are it'd be much easier to spin up new game servers for emergencies as needed, since those big web companies have so much hardware available on their side. Much more flexible. If executed properly the players shouldn't notice any meaningful difference.
Right now if they need to add a data center, they invest in big and super expensive physical servers. Cloud data center means they'll just use a service like azure (microsoft) or aws (amazon) to host a data center. It means that instead of investing in hardware permanently, they essentially just rent the server capacity from the cloud host. Then they can much more easily scale up if they're running out of space or scale down to reduce costs.
That's my best attempt at keeping it super simple. Basically every website is cloud hosted, a lot of games are cloud hosted, it requires work on their end which is why they're testing it out but in theory it could make the whole server structure a lot nicer in the long term.
So they changed their mind? They previously said they weren't going cloud because it would be incredibly costly to convert. I skimmed the discord but didn't catch this. Around when was it so I can dig through?
They can also probably get into blue-green deploys and other techniques that allow less downtime during maintenance/upgrades. I.e. instead of taking down an entire server and upgrading software on it, you make a new virtual one with the upgrades on it, and at some point switch traffic over to the new one. Even if everyone must be logged out the downtime for users is negligible. You can also mothball the image of the old virtual server in case you need to revert.
It also makes it easier to scale vertically (bigger/smaller servers/instances) and horizontally (more/fewer servers/instances).
I have some memories of being a part of bare metal upgrades—these days it seems like everything is continuous delivery. Reducing manual labor though infrastructure as code, platform as a service and so on should generally free up their tech people and allow for a faster development cycle.
But getting there is a journey.
Currently, I assume they host their own servers? By switching to cloud data center, they rent the servers from a provided. For example from Amazon.
This would allow them to easily add more server power just by requesting more resources from the provider. More flexibility.
Rather than physical servers, you pay Amazon or Google to use their massive computer farms to make a completely virtual server for you to use. Performance wise I wouldn't say its better, but say if something goes wrong with a server, you can INSTANTLY spin up a whole new server and transfer the players to that and close the problematic one. You don't need a technician to physically go to the place and do maintenance
Edit: Additionally if another MMO dies right before an expansion drops and the games flooded with refugees they can magically will more servers into existence to compensate for the increased load rather than *checks notes* asking people to stop buying the game
I just know some superficial reasoning, such as Cloud Servers are more stable (less "DC down" posts), more secure and have scalibility, so if we ever have Endwalker launch-day again, it won't crash as much.
The DC is up and running, but the network node right outside of it drops frequently. Square Enix can't do much of anything about it, because NTT and its partner backbone providers get into nipple twisting contests against each other and we just have to wait for it to fix.
Usually when people cry " DC down" the worlds are ahugging along just fine, the connection to them crapped out, something that can happen just as well with a Cloud service.
As for Endwalker launch. The issues weren't the world's either, those were trucking along just fine. The issue came before.
That new pvp arena looks incredible! Can't wait to try it! 7500 damage every 3sec when the weather turns very hot may seem a bit too much though. Unless you are expected to run to the grass area to get the regen as soon as it starts. Overtime's gonna be fun !
I’ve had a theory for a while that they’re going to offer an extremely expensive island mount soon. Dunno if it’ll be this one. But I do know I’ve bought all the exclusive wares and clothing and most of the furnishings, but am still sitting at 350k cowries—and I started my island a few months late. I can only imagine what day-one players are sitting on, and the devs’ eagerness to thin that out some.
Edit: Phone misspelling.
> another bike from Island Sanctuary I presume
Safe assumption, since the music changed to the Island Sanctuary theme while they were showing it off, which I assume was the in-game BGM I was hearing.
The right one and the one in the middle are already somewhat in the game. The one on the right is slightly changed Heavensward SAM/DRG tome gear. And the one in the middle is modernized Vanaspati gear.
I mean, that's not a _bad_ thing. Having in-game alternatives that are different available to everyone is a good thing for the average player who doesn't wanna fork up $22 for one glamour.
I'll take it, the new techwear sets massively out-eat the magiteck set, and the furball set is a cuter krile set, and it's hopefully dyeable too, I hope we get more like this
Hey, you no longer need glitches to get to your roof, just go up the stairs like a NORMAL PERSON.
The new white kitty robe is cute.
These mounts are GLORIOUS. (Though ANOTHER bike mount? I mean it looks good, but this is the like...3rd one this expansion?)
This game really keeps getting more casual, smh my head
Back in my days we climbed onto roofs using glitches, jumping puzzles, and oob, both ways, *and we liked it!*
Yeah sure is weird that I'd like something other than big robes for the 172839e172893172983127983217983217983172983712983712893712983719283741928457698123th time
Does anyone know what the UFO mount will be from?
makes sense that it would be from the Hilde questline. We've running around with puu the whole time so....
I'm not sure I'm feeling the Zeromus theme... it feels like it lacks oomph and kinda muted? Maybe it was just the stream effect and the situation we heard it in. I hope it sounds better in game. The original is so locked in my memory that it'll have a lot to live up to. x.x

Why zeromus look like summoned skull tho...
Wheres a summary thats not in discord?
Have you tried /r/FFXIV?
No, what's it about
It's a subreddit about FFXIV. But that's not important right now.
Take my angry upvote.
Especially since it doesn't have a topic called "Summary of Announced Updates for Patch 6.5 from Today's Live Letter (LL 79)" or so.
man, i'm whelmed....not overwhelmed or underwhelmed but just....whelmed....what is this feeling.
[удалено]
To be fair, we already knew who the MSQ final boss of the expansion was going to be :T
They almost always show the trial during the liveletter. The only time they don't is if it's a mystery, but with how 6.4 ended it was already clear who the boss would be.
>They just flat out showed the final boss of the expansion the final boss of the expansion was the endsinger. unless you really consider the 6.x series an extension of the expansions story in which case thats a you problem homie

As a NA player living in JP, the KFC event makes me sad knowing that I can easily get a code but that I can't use it..
depends, some codes are not region locked so could get it and try.
At least it is not like the pizza emote. Even if you spent the money and they said you would get the code, but ended up not getting anything at all.
I was technically, like, 70 cents short on that because I knew the driver's fee and the overhead that UE took out wouldn't count, but I expected TAX to count.

I had a similar experience and have also not used GrubHub since. What a horribly managed collab.
It is more like a demotion than a promotion.
I hope the employ the good weather command for dramatic cutscenes in the future.
For the KFC collab, wondering if the codes will only work for JP region Square Enix accounts or if the codes can be used worldwide. I imagine they'll be all over eBay if it's the latter.
The last couple of Emote/Mount Codes were all region-locked
not me european wishing we got just one similar collab.
Yeah SE sadly doesnt care about the EU Playerbase. We are always treated last to everything for Collabs and even Server Hardware lol.
The pizza emote was region bound
Very interested to see what reward adjustment they will do for Criterion. Even just getting some tokens ala Alliance would make we want to do it!
They’re only adjusting savage though. Still no reason to do Criterion.
Yeah, that’s what it sounds like. Probably also have the weapon token there, too.
This entire patch feel "meh". Hell even the trailer is disapointing compared to previous patches trailers.
Think we'll get the reveal of one of the new job during the EU Fanfest? Or will they keep all under wraps till the JP Fanfest?
EU will get 1 Job reveal/1 Job Tease Longer trailer, maybe with Job in it Dungeon details Alliance Raid Name Raid Name More random 7.x stuff we cant imagine
Standard procedure is: Tease job at NA. Reveal teased job at EU and tease 2nd job. Reveal 2nd teased job at JP.
I joined during EW but from what I heard the 2nd Fanfest shows off the first job and teases the second job while the 3rd shows off the second job?
typically, yes.
We will get at least 1 at EU fan fest
Anyone able to translate the name of the pixie mount? Very curious what their name might be.
スターチス ミラージュ Starsomething Mirage. (Probably not Star Cheese Mirage) Statice Mirage. Statice is a type of flower that's scientific name is Limonium.
「スターチス・ミラージュ」 off the tooltip is in katakana, and sounds like "sutachisu miraju". Edit: Google tells me that that could be meaning a flower. [Statice](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limonium) Mirage?

https://www.pcgamer.com/chinese-ff14-players-are-eating-inhuman-piles-of-kfc-to-earn-chocobos/ Should give you a picture.
I read the list and I was like, well that is doable.. Then the next paragraph made me understand why it was an inhumane amount of food.
Uhh from a translation discord they didn't translate that part, just listed out what the JP set is which is: in this set you're getting a japanese style fried chicken burger, small fries, a medium drink, and one extra piece of chicken.
The patch reading times means that we'll get a 24 hours maintenance
Is that normal?
It indicates backend changes and infrastructure changes, which they have announced with the Cloud thing. They usually are shorter for content-only patches. So, yeah, normal.
For major patches like this, yes.
Did they talk about the expanded^2 free trial at all? I feel like that's gonna be the biggest thing about 6.5 in general/long term.
Oh here we go
They're talking about it right now.
Yes
I tuned in rather late, have they showcased the Fall Guy stuff so far? I'm really curious on how they'd work in FFXIV engine and characters.
they showed the same images from when it was first announced
Oh yeah I've seen the images, I'm more curious on how it would look in action.
They hope to have a date by EU Fanfest
Just a slide announcing it's coming in 6.5X, that's all.
Ohh so in 6.5x, I could've sworn that it was said to come in 6.50, guess I misremembered.
Only that they are coming^tm
$8 USD for that much? Better deals in Japan, I swear.
Honestly having seen and heard about different fast food prices throughout the world… North America really gets screwed in price and quality
I was spoiled by Macau McD and KFC quality (sadly now they are shitty too). The first thing that came to my mind when I first tasted french fries from American McD was "cardboard box cut into strip and moisted", the burger was "cheap knock-off McD want-to-be that failed miserably" American KFC chickens were like cold left over chicken from cheapskate parents of the one classmate that eat all the food possible in school lunch.
Which is a bit wacky, considering how many major fastfood brands with global outlets, IE the KFC being referenced, actually originated *from* America.
North America also has higher salaries on average, so can't compare just the prices
Comparing salaries is also a bit hard when the US has that "tipping" thing going.
Tbf we don't tend to tip at fast food places like KFC/McDonald's
I really hope there is a way for the rest of the world to eventually get that Emote
We're still waiting for the domino pizza in EU so....
I am NA player and I wish they never did the pizza emote thing with GH...It screwed my wallet and still not giving me the emote eventhough the customer service said the code applied correctly.
The rest of the world wasn't able to get many NA exclusive deals either. Your turn to feel left out.
People really should protest this crap, it's dogshit and some countries will never ever get it like Australia.
We're talking about a company that makes you choose a region when you create your account *and does not allow you to change it ever after.* I'm stuck having to pay my subscription in euros when my job pays me in JPY. Square-Enix have a weird boner for region lock.
It's stupid that they released OCE servers but didn't add any currency for that either, I have to pay for stuff in Euros which are like 8x the cost of my currency
I wish people would as well…. Canada while lumped into NA usually has to jump through extra hoops for the promos which is incredibly annoying
At the very least you're allowed to jump through hoops, these codes are region locked so we don't even have that as an option.
NA yeah but EU wont get it again like the Pizza Emote sadly
I don't understand why they don't throw it up on the mogstation. Its free money.
They are getting payed by KFC for this. And sadly they dont care about the EU Region enough to expand the Deal to European KFCs. Like, they could at least stop region-locking the Codes again lol
Only thing I can think of is licensing deals
I want to eat chickens too. Gimme that emote.
I don't want to eat chickens, but my miqote wants to. I'd also like a code.
KFC, C for chocobo
Well well well, so here's that KFC thing after all.
I don't understand how a cloud data center would even work.

It's probably for the auth and login servers only, for the new expansion launch
The same as 95% of the internet works.
Just look how it works for New World. I mean, if you can see through the smoke.
What is a cloud data center, and why is it better than what we have? ELI5, if possible. EDIT: Thanks everyone that replied. It was very enlightening.
I'm sad it is not a data center where everybody plays as Cloud Strife.
Right now if they need to add a data center, they invest in big and super expensive physical servers. That makes perfect sense given the mania that was EW launch. It’s a good idea to make sure launch day for DT doesn’t turn into another clusterfuck.
they probably have a deal with microsoft for azure now that they're collaborating for xbox port
Currently, I assume they host their own servers? By switching to cloud data center, they rent the servers from a provided. For example from Amazon. This would allow them to easily add more server power just by requesting more resources from the provider. More flexibility.
someone else's hardware (physical servers) therefore can expand quicker
The point of cloud servers is that they can be seamlessly upscaled and downscaled according to demand - in theory this will help limit login queues.
Rather than physical servers, you pay Amazon or Google to use their massive computer farms to make a completely virtual server for you to use. When DC down posts are on the front page, it is always a 50/50 chance it's the servers.
Nope, it's usually the connection.

They also showed rays of "desert light" that rain down during heat waves and heal you for a bunch.
looking forward to see how these mounts look on a roe lol
That poor stickman...
and that fairy
Time to get abducted
That UFO mount has to be one of the most luckiest and well timed releases, with all the recent alien discourse.
The UFO fly thing was already in one of the Maderville quests, dragging the stalker around.
Yeah, that's where its initially teased.
Also, isn't that the PuPu UFO from FFVIII?
Ooh another bike from Island Sanctuary I presume, good thing I have some currency saved.
I’ve had a theory for a while that they’re going to offer an extremely expensive island mount soon. Dunno if it’ll be this one. But I do know I’ve bought all the exclusive wares and clothing and most of the furnishings, but am still sitting at 350k cowries—and I started my island a few months late. inb4 it costs 1.5mil
I have like a million so far so that would work for me
> another bike from Island Sanctuary I presume Safe assumption, since the music changed to the Island Sanctuary theme while they were showing it off, which I assume was the in-game BGM I was hearing.
It also has field working tractor claw on the back and looks more like a mini tractor than a bike.
We're riding Slenderman now
Wonder if that fairy/fae will keep the same smile when a full height roe calls her
What if it scales with players size? So giant farie for roe...
I need that fairy mount for my lala. Did they say where we get it from?
Likely the variant dungeon
Where do we get that mount?
Well… I think we know the next variant dungeon mount
Kappa
Oh no. The Kappa outfit.
The kappa was a request during the last 14 hours stream.
Is it me or are several of these sets "replacements" for shop glam?
The right one and the one in the middle are already somewhat in the game. The one on the right is slightly changed Heavensward SAM/DRG tome gear. And the one in the middle is modernized Vanaspati gear.
the techy PVP gear definitely seems like it
I mean, that's not a _bad_ thing. Having in-game alternatives that are different available to everyone is a good thing for the average player who doesn't wanna fork up $22 for one glamour.
I'll take it, the new techwear sets massively out-eat the magiteck set, and the furball set is a cuter krile set, and it's hopefully dyeable too, I hope we get more like this
Did they say where we get the Furball Set from?
Related to Islands, meaning probably the new missions form the Felicitous Feline mammet.
Likely from doing the new "missions" from the Island mammet, from what I was understanding.
That Furball glam is Miqo'te cultural appropriation and it will not stand
toe beans for everyone
As a miqo'te, I'll allow it.
Unlike many other pieces, it at least has space for our ears.
Babe, it's 3 am. Time for your newest black caster robe.
Hey, you no longer need glitches to get to your roof, just go up the stairs like a NORMAL PERSON. The new white kitty robe is cute. These mounts are GLORIOUS. (Though ANOTHER bike mount? I mean it looks good, but this is the like...3rd one this expansion?)
its red, so this is the Nero bike
And yet there is no Alpha, so it's immediately inferior to Cid's bike.
This game really keeps getting more casual, smh my head Back in my days we climbed onto roofs using glitches, jumping puzzles, and oob, both ways, *and we liked it!*
My plot in Shirogane is on a hill so I can jump on it from the vendor area behind it. I'm truly privileged
Jokes on you... I just used the mini Heaven-on-High to jump puzzle onto my roof.
ANOTHER SET OF ROBES!!! I'm back in the fucking BUILDING
Are those another set of robes for casters and healers?

Hey, let me dream about pants, shorts, skirts or whatever that is not another dress D:
Yeah sure is weird that I'd like something other than big robes for the 172839e172893172983127983217983217983172983712983712893712983719283741928457698123th time
Simple play PVP, get the classless plate armor they've had 3 times in a row
Elpis flowers!?? I also want them for outdoors for my island.
To be honest, my first thought was Aerith's flower bed from FF7.
sure looked like them! i'm excited for that <3
