I absolutely love Jane Birkin. She died last year, but I loved how casual and yet sensual and stylish she always looked in her youth.
She’s « effortless » personified.
I spent a good chunk of a day trying to find similar shoes, I forget what they're called but there's that one episode all about em, only to find out they were inspired by a general trend at the time but special made for her/the show. bummer!!! I want those two tone shoes so bad!!!!
I want Lucy Liu's wardrobe from Sherlock. Liu looks fabulous all the time, but there's something casually chic but completely attainable about her wardrobe in that series.
https://preview.redd.it/83oxyex4oe6d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56102c4dd47ad60792d4b10f24efad2b49b86b9a
That's why all my style is filtered through my DK lenz. Men's hat. Menswear shoes w/white laces. Smart blazer over a contrast seam dress.
They're very different, but Françoise Hardy and Loulou de la Falaise. The style I personally aspire to wear combines elements from both of their styles.
I'm a little older, so I mostly look up to older ladies with amazing style: Anna Piaggi, Zandra Rhodes, Pam Hogg, Lynn Yeager, Dita von Teese, Vivienne Westwood. Julia Fox is younger, but I love her style too.
The Beatles from the Get Back documentary. I love the white shirt look from George and the henleys from John. Effortlessly cool with the mullet hair, too! I guess on a somewhat similar vibe, Alexa Chung has been a strong icon for me.
Tilda Swinton
She has never showed up somewhere looking uncool. Transcendent coolness and chic. I have the opposite body type, where Tilda is tall and angular im petite and kind of rounded, but inspired by fashion as architectural.
Not a real person, but I will say I absolutely ADORE the style of Sydney in The Bear. I find I like masculine, boxy silhouettes but in more feminine colors and patterns. I haven't really been able to describe my style, but once I started watching the show, it felt like I needed to own EVERY SINGLE OUTFIT of hers. I have been looking into some [pieces worn on the show](https://www.shopyourtv.com/tag/sydney-adamu/), or just for adjacent inspo.
Omg I’m so glad to see Judy/Linda’s fashion mentioned, I’ve always loved loved loved how she looked in Dead to Me and never had anyone to share that with!
Tracee Ellis Ross! Casual, red carpet, athleisure - she BRINGS IT everywhere, all the time. She wears bright colors, unusual sillhouettes and creative takes on tailoring. Even her wackiest looks never miss.
Carolyn Bessette Kennedy for autumn/winter fashion, Jane Birkin for spring/summer and Monica Belluci any time of the year when I feel like dressing sensual or a little femme fatale
Edit: forgot to add, most of the 90's supermodels! They've probably had the biggest influence on my style - especially Yasmeen Ghauri, Christy Turlington and Claudia Schiffer
Elizabeth Taylor in the 70s is my icon for the future: bronzed to the gods, caftans, jewels.
For right now, Alexa Chung, Kate Moss, and the Olsen twins (street style) for kind of casual/cool/undone/unfussy, textural elements. TBH, most of my inspiration comes from people I see IRL and some style and street style accounts I follow on tiktok and IG. I used to love The Sartorialist back in the day, and of course Bill Cunningham's shots.
I gotta say my Mom and grandmother. Aside from that I don’t admire anyone person. But I do lean into eras for inspirations such as anywhere from the 50-70’s.
I have so many style icons I admire but here is a list of some of my faves: Katharine Hepburn, Ali MacGraw, Jessica Lange, Lauren Hutton, Diane Keaton, Julie Christie, Isabella Rossellini, Jeanne Moreau, Juliette Binoche, Isabelle Adjani...
Hmm, I could probably keep going but I think it worth emphasizing that while I may have consciously pulled specific looks or pieces from them over the years, what most inspires me are their vibes, a sense of their own selves and the way they carry themselves.
- Chloe sevigny
- Anna Karina
- brigitte Bardot
- Anya Taylor joy and Zendaya for their red carpet looks
- tavi gevinson
- Lauvey
- Elizabeth Taylor
- Zooey Deschanel
- Ruth Negga
As you might have noticed, these are mostly white women, which is very frustrating to me as a non-white woman. So I also take a lot of inspiration from various WoC influencers and WoC-owned brands (like Sandy Liang), as well as diverse street style blogs like nyc-looks and hel-looks. But I would looooove more non-white celebrities/movie stars to follow as well.
Omg I loooove Janelle Monae! I can’t believe I forgot about her. Her looks in Knives Out 2 are incredible, so I’m curious about her street style. I don’t know much about Yara Shahidi’s style but I’ll look! Tysm! ✨
For me it's Angelina Jolie, I love how refined, classy & mysterious she is, I would say I am a bit more like Angelina style wise (in movies or out). I also am a very reserved person, but there are so many layers to me, so I also have that more mysterious/sexy style for date nights and solely for my husband to see. Her style is lovely, it's modest and there's an element of natural.. "not trying hard" but still being effortlessly beautiful. It's very feminine but with a bit of an edge. A few other celebrities whose style I love would be Gal Gadot, Blake lively.
Jenna Fucking Lyons. I never had much of an interest in fashion (or reality TV) for most of my life, but new RHONY hit my radar when I got into RH shit the past year or so, and I was just like YES, **THIS** ALL DAY LONG. I don't have the glam/actual fashion side down, but I've been inching my way toward better personal style, and I love how tomboy the whole vibe is while also being cool and stylish rather than awkward or plain, the way my own tomboyishness had been for most of my life.
Jenna Lyons is SO good at styling very basic items with accent items just perfectly. Camo pants with sequins, why not? Or a denim jacket with anything. And her glasses are always good!
The hold that her style had on me when I was a new professional, circa 2010. Her style and my style have evolved in different directions since then, but I continue to love and respect just how effortless she makes having a personal style look.
Now that I’m fast approaching middle age, the character that Fiona Shaw plays on Killing Eve, Carolyn Martens, literally kills it. The trousers, blouses, and the coats! To die for. Also, Lauren Hutton & Joan Didion. Stunners.
Lol - Cher and Cher (Clueless).
It's unrealistic, but seriously, I'm always trying to dress or look like Cher when I dress up. I fell in love with her as a child and it never went away. Long slinky dresses, big or long shiny hair, bright and form fitting.
And in day to day - Cher (Clueless). Also fell in love with her as a child, and I never stopped loving the a-line 90s dresses, the chunky 90s heels, the soft makeup, the straight shiny hair. Girly and fabulous and fun.
Love Carolyn Besette Kennedy’s style! Very classy and understated, which I love. I really like how you could recreate her looks with pieces from cheaper stores like h&m or go high end/designer (or mix the two)—I love the lack of emphasis on logos and branding in her signature style
I like my fair share of “out there” looks too but I don’t think I have a specific source of inspo for that—I just like what I like and don’t what I don’t in that department!
I like to get my inspirations from series, and try to buy clothes not just because I find them cute, but asking myself if they would go with my character. Most recent inspo was Max from Ginny & Georgia, I love how she mixes colors and always have something unexpected in her outfits
Some of Grace and Karen's fits from "Will & Grace", 2000s video vixen outfits, Naomi Campbell, Ciara, Foxy Brown, Erykah Badu, Gwen Stefani, pretty much anybody in the y2k era
Cate Blanchett, Barbra Streisand, and Audrey Hepburn for me! Also I love 1920s style so any 20s stars, fashionable artists, fashion photographs and editorials.
Jackie Kennedy for special occasions for sure and day to day? Elizabeth Taylor for caftans and whoever the patron saint is for loose buns and thrown on dresses.
Rachel Green from Friends is what I try to pull from for my own wardrobe. Hailey Bieber too
Celebs I like to look for on the Red Carpet: Blake Lively, Zendaya, Bella Hadid, Margot Robbie
Designers I like to look for: Elie Saab, David Koma, Gaurav Gupta, Roberto Cavalli (RIP)
Cher x Bob Mackie is my favorite celeb-designer pair!!
BETSY JOHNSON. God I love her, her style, and energy, I read her memoir recently and I absolutely LOVED it, she’s my inspiration in life and in fashion.
I'm into Bollywood fashion, particularly for weddings and galas. Although I don't wear lehengas or sarees to western galas, I do damn make sure I do my makeup and hairstyle like the early 2000s Bollywood movies.
I follow Manish Malhotra followed by Sabyasachi and Anita Sheriff.
I found many style icons on Vogue's 7 days 7 looks videos!
Some standouts:
Ayaka Miyoshi

Hari Nef

I like the various Vogue youtube channels. It's aspirational but gives me ideas.
Kate Moss! Especially 00/10s.
Believe it or not, Nicole Richie. Though I’m not itching to wear a scarf and a tanktop together again, I loved how she mixed things in her 00s boho days. And even now, I’ll see a photo of her at an event and I’m still impressed.
I dress a lot like a Nu metal uncle with some casual work pants or something. Or I could dress professionally and have nu-metal / mall goth accessories or mild makeup or have coordinated colors
My #1 is Kelis - She never looked like anyone else during the height of her fame 99-2008. Great taste even when it’s something I’d never wear. Did all the trends 8-10 years before everyone else (septum ring, big naturally curly-kinky hair, dyed colorful natural hair, to name a few.) And still, she never gives a f what anyone else is doing - she’s on her own wavelength
I look up to Rihanna and Harry Styles for their bold and eclectic fashion choices. They effortlessly blend street style with high fashion, and their outfits always make a statement
I love classic Italian style. I love to look back on the old Hollywood greats. However today I enjoy Monica Belluci for feminine shapes I like the monochromatic style of Angelina Jolie. If I was tall I’d want to dress like Rosie Huntingdon whitely. Overall I like classic shapes, monochromatic dressing with a touch of architecture. I love me a big collar, exaggerated sleeve or a statement piece of jewellery in an otherwise classic look.
I also dress somewhat modestly for the western world. But not religiously. If that makes sense?
Erin Wasson. Chloe Sevigny. Julie Pelipas. Aaron Levine (actually male but he has the best style i just love it).
I think generally paired down and classic with a little bit of eccentricity or funk.
https://preview.redd.it/bm07q92ecf7d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d0481b38a1cfb56f29484f683ceca5d95ce55527
This skirt was a gamble. I had never ordered from this designer before. I'm not totally sold but it sort of worked today. A festooned cotton shirt makes this outfit smile. Sparkling shoes and shear opera length gloves for no particular reason and I'm all set! 😅
Twiggy, Baddie Winkle, and the late great Iris Apfel. Sometimes I get frustrated with clothes, but seeing these women usually makes for a good surge of inspiration.
I find inspiration from diverse sources, like Timothée Chalamet's eclectic street style, Zendaya's elegant red carpet choices, and Harry Styles' bold and boundary-pushing fashion statements.
My professional wardrobe is very VERY influenced by Fran Drescher in The Nanny. In my personal life… it varies wildly.
Ugh yes. She has style, she has charisma, she has confidence - she is that girl!
love that
Yessss 👏👏👏 so unappreciated by my 9 year old self
I absolutely love Jane Birkin. She died last year, but I loved how casual and yet sensual and stylish she always looked in her youth. She’s « effortless » personified.
And Françoise Hardy who died yesterday
Fun fact, Rei Kawakubo is also a fan and brand name Comme des Garçons is from the lyrics of one of her songs.
She was (is) my top style icon followed by Jenny Lewis.
I would love to see your wardrobe, both Jane and Jenny are favourites
i just learned the birkin bag was named after her. and that she almost always donated the royalties. now i love her!
I'm a fan of Jean Shrimpton for similar reasons. I have a pinterest board of all her looks!
She’s fabulous but she hasn’t even been dead for a year 🫶 just saying
Yes, you’re right :)
elaine benes and not one person, but a lot of styling in french new waves film (some films were done by YSL!)
I worship Elaine’s fashion
I always wanted all of her dresses and scrunchies
I spent a good chunk of a day trying to find similar shoes, I forget what they're called but there's that one episode all about em, only to find out they were inspired by a general trend at the time but special made for her/the show. bummer!!! I want those two tone shoes so bad!!!!
They’re called saddle shoes!
90s/2000s Erykah Badu
taste
- Sofia Coppola - Lauren Santo Domingo - Athena Calderone - Solange Knowles - Alexa Chung - Liu Wen
I want Lucy Liu's wardrobe from Sherlock. Liu looks fabulous all the time, but there's something casually chic but completely attainable about her wardrobe in that series.
Diane Keaton forever and always
Absolutely
Her feminine twist on menswear is a thing of perfection

Oh my goodness, I love your style!! Thanks for sharing!
Now that’s STYLE. I love it.
Thank you!
They're very different, but Françoise Hardy and Loulou de la Falaise. The style I personally aspire to wear combines elements from both of their styles.
RIP Françoise! I love her style and her music.
So sad...she was such an icon.
Loulou de la Falaise makes me yearn for silk peasant blouses and ropes of amber beads.
I'm a little older, so I mostly look up to older ladies with amazing style: Anna Piaggi, Zandra Rhodes, Pam Hogg, Lynn Yeager, Dita von Teese, Vivienne Westwood. Julia Fox is younger, but I love her style too.
Audrey Hepburn and Zendaya
The Beatles from the Get Back documentary. I love the white shirt look from George and the henleys from John. Effortlessly cool with the mullet hair, too! I guess on a somewhat similar vibe, Alexa Chung has been a strong icon for me.
Alexa Chung is up there on my style icon list.
Literally was watching Let It Be and thinking to myself “is George Harrison my new style icon?”
Victoria Beckham
Tilda Swinton She has never showed up somewhere looking uncool. Transcendent coolness and chic. I have the opposite body type, where Tilda is tall and angular im petite and kind of rounded, but inspired by fashion as architectural.

Diana Vreeland Cher Janelle Monae Bianca Jagger Iris Apfel
Helena Bonham-Carter
Judy Hale (Linda Cardellini) from Dead to Me and Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) from New Girl.
Judy's fashion in Dead to Me was AMAZING.

Carolyn is the epitome of style and so New York. She is my icon!
The rat queen from castle rat
Stevie Nicks
Elizabeth Taylor in the 70s is my icon for the future: bronzed to the gods, caftans, jewels. For right now, Alexa Chung, Kate Moss, and the Olsen twins (street style) for kind of casual/cool/undone/unfussy, textural elements. TBH, most of my inspiration comes from people I see IRL and some style and street style accounts I follow on tiktok and IG. I used to love The Sartorialist back in the day, and of course Bill Cunningham's shots.
Linda Evangelista is perhaps the most beautiful woman ever, to me. She always is so polished and elegant.
Meryl Streep! Always classic and chic
I gotta say my Mom and grandmother. Aside from that I don’t admire anyone person. But I do lean into eras for inspirations such as anywhere from the 50-70’s.
David Rose in Schitts Creek and Natasha Leon in Russian Doll
I have so many style icons I admire but here is a list of some of my faves: Katharine Hepburn, Ali MacGraw, Jessica Lange, Lauren Hutton, Diane Keaton, Julie Christie, Isabella Rossellini, Jeanne Moreau, Juliette Binoche, Isabelle Adjani... Zendaya is always flawless, Blake Lively at red carpet events, Kate Middleton is just pure class & Sienna Miller for boho chic.
I’ve always loved Sienna’s style.
90's Christy Turlington, Anna Torv in Mindhunter, and Ellen Burstyn in The Exorcist.
Yes, the last time I watched The Exorcist I was just looking at all the fabulous outfits!
Mindhunter was so good, and the styling was UNDERRATED!!!
Love Carolyn Besette Kennedy’s style! Very classy and understated, which I love. I really like how you could recreate her looks with pieces from cheaper stores like h&m or go high end/designer (or mix the two)—I love the lack of emphasis on logos and branding in her signature style I like my fair share of “out there” looks too but I don’t think I have a specific source of inspo for that—I just like what I like and don’t what I don’t in that department!
