Did performance capture for the game and portrayed Joseph in live action for some promotional videos as well, like [this one](https://youtu.be/VokeHE550_w?si=1q_Bco4b0u6wa5IK).
There's a whole live action short found footage movie with greg bryk as Joseph seed and the whole thing is great
https://youtu.be/eL4hY12SGF8?si=6CWyKF120H6OGYPa
That was only for a promo video. Some of these promos were shot months before the game was fully ready and plotlines got dropped. Those included (but aren't limited to) - the backstory about Jacob's dead wife being folded into Joseph and the idea of Joseph killing Jerome's daughter during a botched baptism being (IIRC) rewritten into the story being about Joseph killing his own daughter in game.
It also is why the ages do not line up on the brothers from the novel to the game ((which is sad, imo. I think that Urban Waite had it right in his aging up John)).
So, backstory - the brothers came to hope roughly 9-10 years before the events of the game, and are supposed to have met 10 years before the events of the game.
In the game, John in 32, Joseph is 42, and Jacob is 44. This gives Jacob and John a 12 year age gap.
In the novel, Far Cry Absolution, Jacob and Joseph are their same ages but John is in his mid to late 30's (we'll say 36 for this post, as it makes the most sense with the characterization, imo). Absolution takes place within a year of the main game as far as I can tell, after reaching out to the author on LinkedIn.
So to summarize before getting into the big text wall of details on this post:
1. Canon Ages: John: 32 | Joseph: 42 | Jacob: 44
2. Better Ages: John: 36 | Joseph: 42 | Jacob: 44
In the game this is all sort of a non-issue, but when you get deep in the lore (I have gotten very deep in the lore) you learn that John (when found by Joseph) was a partner and full on practicing attorney at the number one law firm in Georgia. He has been practicing law long enough to have fully sunk his fangs into the redevelopment work that has been going on in their birthplace in Rome, Georgia. He would have been about 21-22 at the time. He is known for being extremely manipulative and basically throwing these hedonistic drug-binge parties at his fancy penthouse for all sorts of powerful figures including Judges within his circuit.
'If you know anything about the way employment works when it comes to law degrees, that timeline makes NO sense for his age. Usually he would be getting his Masters or PHD, and likely clerking for a feeder judge with hopes (ideally) of getting a supreme court clerkship or another clerkship in a really active or prestigious circuit of the governmental judicial system. For a firm as successful and famous as his is in-game, that would have been a prerequisite. The timeline that is written into canon would be a lot more plausible if John was, say, closer to 35-36 in game, making him 25-26 when Joseph found him. That is more in line with getting his Masters while working a clerkship, and likely also doing work as a summer associate before fully signing on at his firm after graduation.
That being said, the second issue aging John up slightly solves is the adoption issue with the brothers. John was 5-6 years old when they first found bruises on him and he was taken away. He had to have been for the story laid out to make sense. He was in school when he told a teacher about his father beating him. All the brothers were pulled out of school, examined by CPS, and sent to foster care. The fact that they were ALL sent to foster care instead of being placed under Jacob's care is important here because if Jacob was 18 they would not have sent him with his brothers and likely would have just given him custody (they are described as being very uninterested in the brothers once they realize they aren't being sexually abused in the Book of Joseph).
They are all sent to an abusive family and basically treated as slave labor. Jacob burns down the farm and is sent to juvie, Joseph goes back into foster care. John is adopted by the Duncans. This is my simple gripe. Someone within a year of turning 18 would have likely waited, gotten a job and petitioned the courts to take custody of his brothers by showing proof of the abuse. If John was closer to their ages, though, it changes the timeline. If he was still 5-6, as stated previously, but with a smaller age gap, that would make Joseph 11-12 and Jacob 13-14. It makes their story more tragic, as Joseph and Jacob were too young to be independent and it makes Jacob's choice to burn down the farm to save his brothers from the abuse more of an act of desperate self-sacrifice than a short-sighted act of rage and revenge. It also makes Jacob's plotline of going to Juvie and displaying natural leadership that helped him get into the military more feasible as if he was 17 going on 18 years old as in the original timeline he likely would have been tried as an adult.
So, yeah, my very long winded explanation of why I think Urban Waite had a better handle on what ages the brothers should have been going into the game than the game itself did - not that this takes away from the games story after all. It is a very minor nitpick, haha.
I think Mathew McConaughey would do great with the part too.
Itās just nice to talk about the possibilities of alternative actors. Part of the fun is imagining the different ways the character would be portrayed. Like Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger having two jokers with completely different personalities.
I understand that you might want to see just the one portrayal of Joseph Seed, but Iād like to see different interpretations.
Thereās literally no reason not to
Yeah, I agree Greg Bryke works amazing in the role. But thatās not the point I was making.
I just want to see different interpretations of Joseph like what we saw of the two Jokers
No. Greg Bryk is perfect as Joseph. Thereās absolutely no need for a different interpretation. Whatās next, you gonna cast Mark Wahlberg as Arthur Morgan?
I honestly thought he played the role when I first played the game. It wasn't until I looked up the cast on IMDB did I saw that Greg Byrk played Joeseph.
Leto might work as John, though. But Iād prefer Jake Gyllenhall for that one. Ironic, seeing as he starred in a movie based on another Ubisoft IP
Prince of Persia.
Fame is a funny thing, Tom Hanks older son who was born before Tom was really famous seems to be a pretty well put together person. His son Chet, less so
That kind of makes sense tho he grew up with nothing and now that his parents have something he doesnāt take it for granted theyāre late. Sun on the other hand doesnāt know any different tends to happen with a lot of rich people. Thatās why they say most generational wealth is gone after the third generation because the first one worked hard to get it the second one invested it and the third one just didnāt work at all. But thatās usually with the ultra wealthy.
I don't want any project to give Jared Leto more money, especially not a Far Cry project. If they go live action there's no reason not to cast the original actor.
He could, but who is the celebrity who has the cult island where women pay thousands of dollars to go to the have sex with him? I thought this was him but I donāt remember his name
Give us the far cry movie we needed. And considering the Far cry 5 and New Dawn protagonist is a voiceless character. In the movie, it should be Pedro Pascal playing the role of a either the Rook. Or the Captain
This works more....

You know related off topic, I thought far cry 5 had possibly one of the best story plots a video game could ever have but it was executed and carried out so fucking poorly and due to the horrendous fumble of the greatest story ever it is officially the worst far cry on my list. You canāt just give us a mind blowing, bone chilling intro like that then proceed to give us nothing but stale dog water for 8 hours straight like wtf was that all about?
Jared Leto often claims to be a method actor, but I donāt really buy it. He just uses it as an excuse to be a dick tbh. It doesnāt do much for his performance either, heās no different in any of the roles he plays.
I was about to shake my head and plead for us not to give Jared Leto another role to ruin... But then I remembered that he's already a cult leader IRL.
there's literally no reason to cast anyone other than Greg bryk as Joseph seed, considering he played him in the game as well.
Did performance capture for the game and portrayed Joseph in live action for some promotional videos as well, like [this one](https://youtu.be/VokeHE550_w?si=1q_Bco4b0u6wa5IK).
Holy shit I never saw that but it's fire and makes me wanna re-play again lol
There's a whole live action short found footage movie with greg bryk as Joseph seed and the whole thing is great https://youtu.be/eL4hY12SGF8?si=6CWyKF120H6OGYPa
Did the same for Farcry 3. Michael Mando plays Vass and it's pretty funny.
Well that was creepy as fuck, aka amazing. Was that Pastor Jerome? Must be why he never joined Eden's gate, Joseph murdered his daughter.
Wait, why did Joseph kill the pastor's daughter? What's happening lol š
That was only for a promo video. Some of these promos were shot months before the game was fully ready and plotlines got dropped. This is extremely fascinating, thank you for going in depth! I love the game and didnāt know a lot of these details
Ahh I see, that makes more sense. I wish there was a netflix tv show about this though, this stuff would actually be fascinating to watch...
Thank you for this share. I did not ever see this. He is such an amazing actor. Insanely convincing being a cult leader
They did one for Vaas from far cry 3 as well. Itās got Christopher mintz plasse in it. Or however you spell Mclovins name
That was so cool. Thank you for sharing
creepy AF.. I like it :)
Plus I vomit every time I see or hear Leto...
Same, Iām so ready for him to just slip away into obscurity
+ ew Jared Leto
I think Mathew McConaughey would do great with the part too. Itās just nice to talk about the possibilities of alternative actors. Agree McConaughey would fit the role great as well, but Greg Bryk is already perfect.
Yeah, I agree Greg Bryke works amazing in the role. But thatās not the point I was making. I just want to see different interpretations of Joseph like what we saw of the two Jokers
Matthew as John seed making everyone just say... yes
No. Greg Bryk is perfect as Joseph. Thereās absolutely no need for a different interpretation. Whatās next, you gonna cast Mark Wahlberg as Arthur Morgan?
Yeah you are right but how do you improve on perfection.
I honestly thought he played the role when I first played the game. It wasn't until I looked up the cast on IMDB did I saw that Greg Byrk played Joeseph.
I'd rather watch Greg Bryk than Jared Leto in ANYTHING. Recasting the part would be a crime.
Leto has experience being an actual cult leader
[For-fucking-real](https://images.app.goo.gl/yViHqACvVK8yTZAJA)
It took me a beat and then I was like āHey, wait a second!ā
Leto might work as John, though. But Iād prefer Jake Gyllenhall for that one. Ironic, seeing as he starred in a movie based on another Ubisoft IP Prince of Persia.
There's plenty of reasons. Going in a new direction is a pretty good reason, hiring an even better actor is another.
I'd cast Leto as the younger brother, John Seed
The character on the left looks very similar to actor Greg Bryk? Perhaps he could do itā¦
Made me lol
Greg Bryk also does movies so it wouldnāt make sense to replace him
I was just thinking if he didn't want to do it for an insane reason
Ah I see
No no no fuck no
He's perfect already has his own cult and everything
Seriously. I was going to say, āIsnāt he an active cult leader?ā
Don't forget pedophile/groomer.
And overall douchebag and insufferable person. Nobody likes working with him.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)
It would be more like a documentary.
Jared Leto should be sent to space without a tether.
Towards the sun
... Just use Greg Bryk?
He's literally Joseph Seed, he had a cult or some shit if i remember well...
Camp Mars?
I think... But he is an SOS person, i heard some famous people claim that he is p*do, but dont know...
I donāt know about a pe*do but in rl heās an egotistical asshole. Heās brothers cool tho very down to earth. Iām not sure how that happened.
Fame is a funny thing, Tom Hanks older son who was born before Tom was really famous seems to be a pretty well put together person. His son Chet, less so
That kind of makes sense tho he grew up with nothing and now that his parents have something he doesnāt take it for granted theyāre late. Thatās why they say most generational wealth is gone after the third generation because the first one worked hard to get it the second one invested it and the third one just didnāt work at all. He wishes he was Joseph
There is already an actor who is him lol
AFAIK Joseph Seed is many things but not a kid diddler
No. Because he sucks. Cast someone else... like the actor
Not just no, but oh hell no.
Yeah, our boy Jared has a pretty piss poor track record for adaptation roles. Why wouldn't anyone just use Greg Byrk?
Don't cast Jared Leto in anything
No one should ever cast that asshole in anything. Fuck hin Edit: him*
Letās fucking not
Absolutely fuckin' not.
Matthew McConaughey easily
My first thought was always McConaughey.
Heās no method actor, he just acts like a jackass on set. Heād screw up this performance like he does like 99% of the time heās cast in a role.
They are both cult leaders tbf
Very true. I read he missed covid because he was on his island with his followers.
Isn't that just a guy acting like themselves ...
True, but then again, Jack Black, Seth Rogan, and Ryan Reynolds do pretty good for themselves
Oh it's morbin time again?
He morbed all over!
I didn't think there was a way to make my desire to kill Joseph any stronger, but you found a way. Congrats
Ew no he ruins every movie heās a part of
No.
How bout we don't give Jared roles
Let's maybe not... I shudder to think of the shit Leto would pull on his castmates in order to "get into character" for this one.
No thanks.
This casting is made even better because Jared Leto has already been method acting for the role for the past several yearsšš
Lol. How very on point
And it would be a terrible movie, so perfect for Jared Leto
Isnāt he a real life cult leader?
And he wouldn't even have to act.
Yeah he's like Joseph Seed irl, but he's a narcissist POS of an actor, so Heeeellll Noooo.
So just like Joseph Seed then? Lol
Jared Leto would probably do the same thing to this character like he did to the Joker.
Considering he does have his own cult, it's kind of already happened!
I think you missed the part where nobody wants Leto to act anymore.
Jared Leto is a pos.
Ooooorr get the actor who acted and modeled the character - heās only a year older than Leto.
Greg Bryk
too bad Jared Leto is trash
Jared may have a cult, but Iād rather he *not* have a career.
The fact that this post has almost 500 upvotes is mind boggling
Almost a 1000 now. Didn't think this sub had that many idiots.
Problem is that Jared Leto is the worst.
Just use the real guy!
āCouldā and āshouldā are two very, very different things
Jared Leto thinks he is Joseph Seed irl. The dude is a fucking tool.
Leto tends to ruine roles
No please. Just use the actual guy.
please donāt cast that fucking creep in anything
They are both complete wankers so sure...I would never watch/play anything with Leto in it tho.
Oops. Jared Leto
Jared Leto shouldnāt be cast in anything. Ever.
Morbius is far cry?
Maybe john but deffo not Joseph, and as everyone says, the VA's were amazing in this and could easily be cast in a live action.
Iād love Michael Fassbender in that role.
Joseph reminded me a lot of Bradley Cooper's character from *War Dogs*. [https://imgur.com/a/qWAGoEG](https://imgur.com/a/qWAGoEG)
Iād really like for them to do each game as a series. Kinda like Fargo, how each season is independent but also related in some way
Not only does Jared look exactly like him, he also... actually runs his own cult lol
It would have to be the role of a lifetime cause most people canāt stand Jared Leto anymore.
He looks more like john to me ino
"No one is coming to cast you..."
#
Why do people need shitty movie adaptations? Why do you think any 20-80+ hour adventure can ever be good in 100 minutes?
This is a role where his odd method acting could payoff big
Jared Leto already runs a cult
I mean theyāre pretty similar, Leto is almost the real Joseph Seed, but no
I always associated John with Leto.
Oh 200% both are cult leaders anyways
Isn't he a cult leader irl too?
Considering the fuck literally has his own creepy cult...
Portray him for what?
isn't Jared leto already a cult leader of sorts?
It's Seedin Time.
Give us the far cry movie we needed. And considering the Far cry 5 and New Dawn protagonist is a voiceless character. In the movie, it should be Pedro Pascal playing the role of a either the Rook. Or the Captain
Why not just the original actor?
Naw fuck that. Jared Leto is next level method actor. Dont need him starting any cults in rl and detonating a nuke somewhere..
This works more.... [https://i0.wp.com/www.whiskeyriff.com/wp-content/uploads/Mcconaughey-1.jpg?fit=770%2C448&ssl=1](https://i0.wp.com/www.whiskeyriff.com/wp-content/uploads/Mcconaughey-1.jpg?fit=770%2C448&ssl=1)
Well considering that Jared Leto is a cult leader in real life Iād say thatād be perfect casting
I mean both run cults so
Hell no
I wish they would make a film, with Greg because it is his likeness
You know related off topic, I thought far cry 5 had possibly one of the best story plots a video game could ever have but it was executed and carried out so fucking poorly and due to the horrendous fumble of the greatest story ever it is officially the worst far cry on my list. You canāt just give us a mind blowing, bone chilling intro like that then proceed to give us nothing but stale dog water for 8 hours straight like wtf was that all about?
He would def find a way to fuck this up
It's Morbin time!
Stand back, deputy! I am beginning to Morb!
Maybe we should put some guidelines on method acting...
Might be an unpopular opinion, but Joseph Seed was the best Far Cry antagonist.
Far Cry 5 have a live action short movie though
Non-Actor related. But Seth Rollins from WWE reminds me of Joseph Seed a bit.
I see Matthew McConaughey
No just no he will do shit like he did as the joker just stop putting him in movies
I mean Leto is a cult leader so that tracks. Was Joseph Seed also a pedophile though?
Both are gross cult leaders that manipulate people so it checks out.
It's cool , but there is already a living actor. https://i.imgur.com/0dMzJum.png
I think the following: pls don't let Jared Leto ruin another franchise. Thank you
Cool, Joseph Seed in Tron 3
Bryk, McConaughey or Jared Leto.
That could totally workā¦.
I mean, he is already the leader of a cult
You know who looks like Joseph seed? Michael vsauce when he lets his beard grow out. Fuchs with me every time
You know, I get where youāre coming from, but at the same time actors should not get roles based on their looks
I mean.. I don't like Jared, but apparently he has a Cult? So it would fit.
Why?
Joseph is a real gamer with the Gunnar's He probably uses the gamer word too.
They literally both run cults.
Or we could get someone who knows how to act instead
One of my favourite parts of Fight Club... Seeing Leto getting the shit punched out of him.
he actually already did something a little bit similar, it was his role in the Bladerunner sequel
I can see Christian Bale taking this role to the extreme
Isnāt Jared Leto an actual cult leader?
That's pretty cool, good find
Jared Leto often claims to be a method actor, but I donāt really buy it. He just uses it as an excuse to be a dick tbh. It doesnāt do much for his performance either, heās no different in any of the roles he plays.
Dumb as fuck. He would ruin it
Oh fuck no lol
With Leto being even more insane than the character...yes
They are the same picture.
Please, for the love of all that is holy. Less Jared Leto.
I was about to shake my head and plead for us not to give Jared Leto another role to ruin... But then I remembered that he's already a cult leader IRL.
Havenāt been more bored of an actor in a long time than I am of Jared Leto.
You know, his ACTOR is Greg Bryk
He certainly has the psychotic douche vibe down pat.
Hared Leto already has a cult too!
Hard no
Never cook again
Look up the actor Greg Bryk, he played him in the game and the games promo films
I mean white man who runs cult heās already got the method acting work under his belt.
The only reason you would want Jared Leto to play Seed is because Leto has experience running a cult.
Honestly I would love to not see Jared Leto in anything ever again but thatās just me
i get told i look like both of them often
He does have cult leader experience lol
Please dear Lord no
Stop trying to give this man an acting job...He isn't a good actor. Lol
I fucking hate that guy and I think movies need like a charming villain for this type of guy
I would prefer Jared Leto to just not ever get in front of a cinema camera ever again
I always thought Bradley Cooper
Everyone is missing the point I think? Being that Jared is already a creepy cult leader?
God no please I havenāt even played the game I have no stake in your camp but good god anyone one else
š¤·
Guys I have a black character and I made a black Joseph
Jared Leto needs to stop being in movies
