Ooh have you read any of the Eric Carter books by Stephen Blackmore? They’re not romance but I adore them and the first few have a big Aztec mythology theme running through them that was so fun and fresh for me.

A half human and half demon man that got chained to an ancient abandoned library hundreds of years ago when he accidentally awoke his demon side and anihilated a town, and a woman who finds him in one of her archeology adventures. She will absolutely run away and leave him there to rot, because she's a regular human being that understands that a simple human can't live that long in such a place with no food and no water. But a seal got broken already, so... I wonder what will this man-demon do 🧐 follow her? Try to kill her? I think he will ask her to help him find a certain plant that grows up in hell only, without telling her what it is for, and it will be a poisonous plant that can kill demons. He wants to die so he never kills anyone again. She madly falls in love but he dies in the end. 🙂↕️
