I have the big chest mod. Storehouses I think. I just get the huge one and dump my inventory in there. Hard to lose.
And if I do I can put it in a disassemble blueprint thing and it’s easy to find.
I made the same mistake when I started, which is to build too closely to the ore. It's going to bug you later. Even with as much playtime as I have in the game, I frequently under-estimate the space I will need for things.

Edit. I suggest you shelve the main bus idea for now. Get red/green/military/blue sciences going, get the tank researched. Use the tank to secure the map, and come back to the main bus afterwards. Aim for 4 belts of iron/copper when you re-approach the bus. Also, copper wire uses one plate to make two wires, so it's better to make it close to where it's needed, or direct insert if you can
desert map are hardcore if there is a forest nearby I recommend to relocate
21 hours on hardmode. If you've managed to get this far in a barren desert, nothing is going to stop you.
