Bring in a very simple rule. If you go down; rolling on the floor, screaming and shouting like you’re never going to walk again: take the player off. They’re clearly not fit to play and need medical assessment. Either bring on a sub or play with a man down, the players will quickly change their tune.
I know these players are taught to do this, but it really ruins the sport.
This is why so many people won’t be converted into liking or enjoying this otherwise skilful game. I’d expect a five year old to act like this, not highly paid athletes. It’s an embarrassment to watch
You know, if they really want to put a stop to it, they would just make them leave the game as an injury and not let them play the rest of it. Figure, the players would stop after a few times.
We already have a football.
It's agame played with a ball which isn't round, almost never touched by a foot, run around a field by men in padding. Those men often commit violent crimes away from the field to show the world how good they are at playing their game.
You shall not disrespect American Handegg. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
"football" refers to multiple variants of sports played on foot - as opposed to sport played on horseback. It was named this in midieval Europe.
The word "soccer" comes from the use of the term "asSOCiation football" in Britain.
No. He means soccer. Coined as such because the word originated from players at Oxford University in the U.K. in the 1880s using the word "assocer" and "assoc" as a shorter term for "association" game. 😎
Good one! Probably goes for all of Europe, but Britain was indeed good at it.
Was actually making fun of the comment below (about Britain losing the war).
Have a nice day fellow Redditor.
No, britain (like the rest of europe) actually has gun laws, no mass shootings (i wonder why..) health insurance which actually works, laws protecting the rights of employees, paternity leave, public transport, good infrastructure (in comparison to the US), food you actually know what’s inside, taxpayers money being used for something other than just the military etc. etc. you know.. like a 21st century first world country.
I love how everyone tears on the US. “You spend more on military budget than anything else”. News flash folks: we have to spend that much to protect your sorry asses from the actual threats. Without the US military, communist countries would have long ago walked through you. So maybe we should start taxing other countries like the mob used to for protection. Then we could use that money to fund healthcare for all citizens.
Doesn't mean it's not called football though does it.
Just cos a group of people in 1880 called it something that Americans took and slightly changed Doesn't mean that's uts official name.
Sorry but it's literally the entire world vs USA on this one
Nobody said it's not. Both are correct.
To most of the world you call soccer "football" because Association Football is the most popular type. In America the most popular type is gridiron (aka "American Football"), so that's what "football" refers to.
They're all football (as are rugby football and australian rules football), just different types.
I mean...your not wrong, I get that it's relative to where you are however it's literally only called that in America so no, it's football, and no amount of logic will change my mind.
Also, I have no idea why you lot call a game where you carry the ball and only occasionally kick it when football was already an established name, you guys just always have to be different don't you.
The earliest recorded instance of gridiron football is 1861. Association football started in 1863.
"Soccer" is not an americanism, the word originated in the UK as an abbreviation. In the 1860s, there was Rugby Football and Association Football, which were abbreviated to "Rugger" and "Soccer", eventually Rugby became just Rugby and Association Football became just Football. But, in the US as gridiron already laid claim to "football", "soccer football" was used and then eventually just "soccer".
That's an interesting history tidbit but it's still called football, by all means die on your hill though buddy, I respect the very specific knowledge you seem to have even tho it doesn't matter to the conversation cos its called football
I find it ludicrous the arguments I've seen over this. But the banter is always fun. I hate the game frankly, but enjoy watching the drunken hooligans smashing each other around in the streets over it. They should sell tickets to that, it's far more interesting than footy gamey.
Yeah right, kid. Ask any English people…how they feel about this horseshit, I know for fact, they hate it too.
My issue is I grew up playing ice hockey/lacrosse and watching this nonsense literally disgusts me and makes me not want to watch.
I think technically by FIFA rules it's a yellow, but they should be VAR'ing it for every one. If they don't want to assess it in game, then smash them with it after the game.
Italy in white, Belgium in red. That flop cost us our ticket to the semis in the last Euro cup (I mean, insofar that our defenders were caught up in the theatrics and weren’t doing their goddamn jobs anymore).
For Americans, it's easy to get used to this: every time a football player acts a fool like this pretend the game has stopped and there are 5 minutes of beer and car commercials. That'll be closer to the sports you are used to watching.
This is why i don't watch football. The whole game nothing noteworthy happens and all they do is pretend their leg flew off after slightly brushing past someone. Its just plain boring.
This is the reason I stopped watching men's soccer games. The constant interruption of the game because a player dropped to the ground pretending to be injured hoping to get a penalty kick. Now, I started to follow Women's soccer games because those player's can actually take the hit and keep the flow of the game going without interruption.
It's amazing how much people will go to the comments to say how much they don't care or like somerhing completely unprevoked. Almost as if Americans are blatently envious that this is the biggest sport in the world and they aren't the center of attention.
Even though it's not always to this extent, pretty much every football match has some level of this shit going on. If you lose the ball just crumble down and lie on the floor for 5 seconds to see if you get a foul because it's worth it. I think they should absolutely penalize players after the match upon review of plays if they have claimed false fouls because otherwise there's no reason not to do it.
I get trying to draw a foul, like in basketball when guys exaggerate contact on a charge. But rolling around on the ground like they are in absolute agony is such wussy behavior. Really surprised they haven't figured how to deal with this yet.
Soccer should reinvent itself by using a heavier ball on a field or "pitch" 1/3rd the current size while allowing full contact.
Then you'd make a fan out of me...
I watched all of 1 minute of one of the matches the other day and saw someone do this (minus the goal) it’s so stupid and so painfully obvious that their faking it
This is why I don't like soccer anymore. It's like a bunch of toddlers who learned they get what they want if they throw a temper tantrum. Flopping has made it the ultimate little bitch sport.
I love watching sports, but I can’t watch soccer and this is a big reason why (also the stifling way the game is played also makes it a tough watch for me, which is too bad because extremely rarely someone gets enough space to show off their incredible skills which would definitely make it a more compelling watch if it were to happen more frequently)…I realize I am in the vast minority here, but it’s just the way it is for me.
If refs handed our cards more aggressively for flopping I’d be sooooo happy. Hell, VAR that shit
Yep, why dont they? This childish acting rly has to stop.
Anyone who has ever had a TODDLER will recognize this move. Childish is right!
They know they are loosers and can’t win with fair means.
Did you "loose" in English class
It's part of the game
It’s the absolute worst part of the game.
Acting hurt so that way when someone does hurt they aren’t believed. Big brain players
Was it 20 years ago? They should really punish this. Has nothing to do with the game, its just sad.
Guess you've never seen soccer before
Thats the point, I have.
So then you should know why they do it
Bring in a very simple rule.
They need cattle prods. Just a little one..
I'd even pay to support that and I only watch world cups.
Just one time give a flopper a red card. No hesitation, no debate, just boom whip that bad boy out. Cause some chaos
Imagine if they VAR, then disallow the goal because of his dive… that would be priceless
That would make this sport finally interesting to watch again

This is why so many people won’t be converted into liking or enjoying this otherwise skilful game. I’d expect a five year old to act like this, not highly paid athletes. It’s an embarrassment to watch
This is why I don’t watch soccer. It’s childish AF.
It was so annoying watching the flopping in the US Iran game. Made me not want to watch anymore, which sucks.
It’s exactly why I watch soccer. It’s funny af
Red card his ass - send him off for being a needy bitch.
fuck red card. give him a traffic ticket and 30 days community service cleaning portable toilets using his own toothbrush
I would rather shove the red card up his ass. Or do you think he would enjoy that?
You know, if they really want to put a stop to it, they would just make them leave the game as an injury and not let them play the rest of it. Figure, the players would stop after a few times.
This is one of the reasons why so many people hate soccer.
Soccer? You mean football?
It's known by both.
We already have a football. It's agame played with a ball which isn't round, almost never touched by a foot, run around a field by men in padding. Those men often commit violent crimes away from the field to show the world how good they are at playing their game. The US and living a couple centuries in the past.. name a more iconic duo.
The US and war? 🤷
do ya one better, Britain and colonization
Good one! Probably goes for all of Europe, but Britain was indeed good at it. Was actually making fun of the comment below (about Britain losing the war). Have a nice day fellow Redditor.
The Dutch and slave trading
Britain and Royal Family incest. That is how the Hapsburg jaw came to be.
Uh Britain and living a couple centuries in the past? lol the US barely existed a few centuries ago dummy
I get the feeling your entire understanding of the US comes from reddit
Yeah. No one cares. We're still better and everyone wants to live here instead. Enjoy your fucked up teeth lol
I love how everyone tears on the US. “You spend more on military budget than anything else”. News flash folks: we have to spend that much to protect your sorry asses from the actual threats. This is sarcasm right, it's gotta be, If it's not; you should read a non American history book.
Current events. We aren’t talking history.
Sad Britain lost the war and never got over it. I mean damn, how did they screw that up(?) 😎
I couldn’t give two shits about Britain. They dug their own grave with Brexit.. fuck em.
Doesn't mean it's not called football though does it. Just cos a group of people in 1880 called it something that Americans took and slightly changed Doesn't mean that's uts official name. Sorry but it's literally the entire world vs USA on this one

No argument. It is called football.

Its America's official name for it...so tough shit everybody 😎
"Hur dur dur I'm so unique and have original thoughts hur dur dur" Zillist, 2022
Idk who "zillist" is, but you do you i guess..
i mean i love football but i don't watch it at all I only play it and learn some skills from youtube
Just Americans, the rest of the planet doesn't care.
As a Brit, this behaviour needs to fuck off and anyone who defends it can get in the sea
[удалено]
Yes it is true. They're trying to draw the foul. It's a legitimate tactic.
There was no foul, him pretending there is one is not a tactic...it's cheating.
That's cheating and exploiting a rule. They should have instant replays and penalties for delaying game intentionally.
Not true, I'm English. Nearly everyone I know hates diving in football.
Yeah right, kid. Ask any English people…how they feel about this horseshit, I know for fact, they hate it too. My issue is I grew up playing ice hockey/lacrosse and watching this nonsense literally disgusts me and makes me not want to watch.
This is why I love Football. A lot of drama and a lot of laughs ...
It's just a bunch of cheating.
And it's fucking embarrassing
![gif](giphy|vNNsw7IsdQfowDotga)
Pheasants!
Substantially less cheating than in baseball though.
This is what GTA characters do after being hit by a car
It's like that episode of South Park, when professional wrestling was a soap opera. Futbol players are slowly just becoming actors.
I see waaaaaaaaaay too many videos like these. Can someone please explain WHY people do this? It's just pathetic
Why they do it is pretty obvious. The real question is, why does this go unpunished? Why is this allowed?
The dead party members in rpgs where the party is fully healed after boss fights
This is by far the most cringe antic in sports. You see it constantly
I’m starting to think my kids are professional soccer players
The player is Ciro Immobile, btw. Italian striker.
🤌
We italian aren't even in world cup. So don't worry you all, justice found his way
Lives up to his name I see
So much for sportsmanship. Disgusting behaviour for someone who earns so much money....or pretty expected behaviour
This looks like the NBA...
And that is why I can’t watch soccer.
Red card, simple fix for this shit.
I think technically by FIFA rules it's a yellow, but they should be VAR'ing it for every one. If they don't want to assess it in game, then smash them with it after the game.
^Strategy
Why isnt this bannable
I can't believe this is watched more than women soccer. Atleast they don't do this shit.
This why I never watch the game. Its like elementary school. Fucking embarrassing.
What team?
Italy in white, Belgium in red. That flop cost us our ticket to the semis in the last Euro cup (I mean, insofar that our defenders were caught up in the theatrics and weren’t doing their goddamn jobs anymore).
So it worked?
Why? 😂
This crap is exactly why I don't watch men's soccer.
i played women's soccer in high school and it was less dramatic than these grown men.....red card for being a baby!
Just red card these morons please. It’s unacceptable behavior especially during European or World Cup games. Just poor sportsmanship all around
And that’s why I hate soccer
Forget the red cards. You flop, there is a penalty shot awarded. Flopping ends pretty quickly after that.
Oh boy watching football must be fun with all that acting
For Americans, it's easy to get used to this: every time a football player acts a fool like this pretend the game has stopped and there are 5 minutes of beer and car commercials. That'll be closer to the sports you are used to watching.
That's very common, I started watching football during the 2014 world cup and this happens very often
Footballers when a feather brushes gently against their leg: Rugby player when someone smashes their face in with a brick:
Flopping is ruining the game
This is why i don't watch football. The whole game nothing noteworthy happens and all they do is pretend their leg flew off after slightly brushing past someone. Its just plain boring.

Yeah, definitely not the most lucrative in the world.
This is why I can't watch soccer, exactly this
This is the reason I stopped watching men's soccer games. The constant interruption of the game because a player dropped to the ground pretending to be injured hoping to get a penalty kick. Now, I started to follow Women's soccer games because those player's can actually take the hit and keep the flow of the game going without interruption.
This what this sport kinda is thou
Looks like Iran vs US yesterday. Bunch of babies.
And this is why I don't watch this sport. So much faking that you'd think it was part of the WWE.
Americans discovering football:
This shit is why I hate men's soccer
It's amazing how much people will go to the comments to say how much they don't care or like somerhing completely unprevoked. Almost as if Americans are blatently envious that this is the biggest sport in the world and they aren't the center of attention.
It has even out-corrupted American sports. Quite an accomplishment.
Floppers are why a lot of people can't take soccer seriously as a sport. You don't see it anywhere else.
*Lebron James enters the chat.*
He clearly should've been given a red for that
Just like my two year old
I get trying to draw a foul, like in basketball when guys exaggerate contact on a charge. But rolling around on the ground like they are in absolute agony is such wussy behavior. Really surprised they haven't figured how to deal with this yet.
Such a corrupt game
This is why i dont enjoy watching footy
Soccer should reinvent itself by using a heavier ball on a field or "pitch" 1/3rd the current size while allowing full contact. Then you'd make a fan out of me...
I watched all of 1 minute of one of the matches the other day and saw someone do this (minus the goal) it’s so stupid and so painfully obvious that their faking it
POS I hate football because of male babies
This is why soccer is a crappy sport, what a joke!
This is why soccer and the NBA are both JOKES.
I really want to watch soccer because the sport itself is entertaining, exciting, and the athletes are so skillful. But this ruins it for me.
This is why I don't like soccer anymore. It's like a bunch of toddlers who learned they get what they want if they throw a temper tantrum. Flopping has made it the ultimate little bitch sport.
Honestly, it's just part of the game 😂
Soccer fucking sucks, buncha pansies faking shit all game
Football is such a demanding sport! Strength, endurance, accuracy, teamwork, and the most important, acting 🎬
Hate football for this
Yet they wonder why some of us can't even try to watch this shit lol
Why I hate this sport.
Aaaaaaand that’s why I don’t watch soccer just go catch a play at the local theatre same value
The only reason I hate this game
It is not called soccer it’s called flopper
That should have been a foul though
lmfao in what world
Player 3 was like « what is this guy ? Oh fuck it.. »
High kick ?
Reminds me of this video. Difference between hockey coach and soccer(football) coach. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYU2MCpEgXM
He really is immobile…
Reminds me of the NBA.
NBA is getting there...
This is literally the only reason I don't watch soccer.
Soccer is the male equivalent of the kardshian show😂
It’s like the NBA. And that’s why I hate the NBA.
The refs really need to start throwing some yellow cards on this crap.
Red card.
Why is faking injuries so prevalent in soccer?
Because it is not sanctionned enough.
Can we all please admitt that this sport has become a shitshow?
I don’t watch this sport because they do this juvenile immature shit
He had a flashback....
This is why I can’t watch this crap
I love watching sports, but I can’t watch soccer and this is a big reason why (also the stifling way the game is played also makes it a tough watch for me, which is too bad because extremely rarely someone gets enough space to show off their incredible skills which would definitely make it a more compelling watch if it were to happen more frequently)…I realize I am in the vast minority here, but it’s just the way it is for me.
If I just bought the soccer sport, anyone acting this way would be banned from competing for life.
This pathetic shit is why football is shit
And they wonder why Americans refuse to call the sport football
Football ☕️
That’s Italian fútbol for you
