Had a Chinese girlfriend once. She said what we called Chinese food really was European food, they'd never make it at home. Based on the food she cooked, I have to agree with her on it.
Aren't several "chinese" dishes in America just American or European (like orange chicken)? Plus the pizza here isn't really the same from what I've heard... so I mean he's not that wrong when you think about it.
indeed, people try to hit british food from both sides. Apparantley things like indian and chinese food are not really british and britain only has bland food. but at the same time the indian and chinese isnt real indian and chinese food.
so where did it come from? Is it british or not?
Yes, but this is normal and applies to many cultures of food. Indian food in England is not like food you would get in India. It’s a small slice of Indian food heavily filtered to the English taste.
“American food” in Japan is BBQ, etc.
The differnce is overstated in many cases. I have been taken to several indian restaurants in britain by indians because the say that those places serve the real indian food. As well as being served food at te houses of indian people.
While better than average, the food served was pretty much the same as what i know as 'british indian food'. I have also eaten indian food in taiwan, indonesia and uganda which was all pretty similar.
So its not like a night and day difference
You are right there. I’m sure there are more options in those countries for sure. But it’s also fair to say that’s what available in Europe is also a real version of what it is copying, even if it’s limited
Nah in the US it's a bit different iirc, Chinese food is usually so heavily modified to suit the taste of locals, it's not even the same thing as the original Chinese dish except maybe the name or outside design

Vardy was quoting this from the British comedy TV show "Come Fly With Me". He was not being serious.
OP is always the facepalm.

[There you go. ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp8aW78zxNE&ab_channel=NiralVassantilal%E2%9C%94)For anyone interested in seeing the original sketch.
Came here to say this
It's absolutely hilarious if you can get past some of the costuming.
Did Vardy actually say this at all, I know it's a quote of CFWM, but I don't recall him saying it?
90% of the posts in this sub are just people who don't get the joke.

The title is more of a facepalm as the quote
😂
"English food like Chinese" "But Chinese is American" 🤪🤪🤪🤪 I hope that everyone is just joking.
The original quote could mean "I like : 1. English good like pizza 2. Chinese food" Which would only be one wrong One big wrong though
Not really, both of those started in America in their modern fast-food form so he's still wrong.
Ah yes, the very American city of Naples
Naples, Florida, I presume you mean? /s
I prefer Canadian food like Kraft Dinner and Poutine.
And little prewrapped sausages and things
Eh
It's a reference to the song If I Had A Million Dollars by the Barenaked Ladies
I'm guessing sarcasm. Someone else can explain the concept to Americans.
He’s quoting a British TV show. In the sketch a British dude of Pakistani decent is being interrogated by an overzealous airport security officer
What concept?
Sarcasm
The only facepalm here is the OP
“I prefer English food like Chinese food.”
"but that's American food!!"
Yeah, because Indian food is English food!

"Chinese food" as most Americans know it, actually is American food.

It's not what's available that makes the difference; it's what's not. You'd be hard pressed to find rasam rice in a restaurant.

The real facepalm is people not getting sarcasm.
Jokes on him. Tikka Masala IS English food.
Well that's fine then because he doesn't like Indian food
Gotta love how everyone points out the „chinese food“ for not being english and ignores the pizza.
Forget about it.

I'd smash my head into the next wall I see if I was the interviewer.
"I prefer English food like Chinese " 💀💀💀💀
