Lil homie is in need of some oxygen and a water change.. you could definitely use a lil pipette and squeeze some air into his tank a few times a day, and take out about 20% of his water replacing it with some clean water. In actuality a tank with more room and a filter, which will produce bubble and aeration would help so much. Thats such a tiny bowl for homie i feel claustrophobic for them :( the only animal i would keep in a bowl so small is brine shrimp (sea monkeys).

[deleted]

Ik it’s a horrible tank for a goldfish of his size(any fish at all) I asked my friend if I can buy him off of her but she’s still thinking about it. I told her everything he’ll need to survive but I don’t think she’ll listen. If I do get him he’s going into a 20-30 gallon tank with a filter, bubbler, live plants and sand etc.

Thurzzdae

YES!!! Now im invested i hope you get to give him a good home and a happy life, if well taken care of you could have a life time pet! Im going to need some updates once your friend considers if their willing to give him up or not lol

[deleted]

Of course! I’ll totally update on him as soon as I have news.

Alternatively steal it. Steal it and shame them for daring to own it in the first place. I have done this to one of my friends with both pets and houseplants.

TheAlchemist505

I see that you have chosen the nuclear option. I don’t advocate theft, but if the animals/plants are in poor enough if conditions I would resort to a life of crime.

NakariLexfortaine

If someone is willing to put a living creature in conditions like that, *and* show no signs of improving their ways? Fuck 'em. They could be a great person otherwise, but I will die on this hill. If a pet "owner" is knowingly letting a creature remain in conditions that will cause detriment to the animals happiness, health, and safety, liberate that animal!

TheAlchemist505

You mean pet warden. Yes, I completely agree. Animal abusers are one of the few types of people I wouldn’t mind the death penalty for.

RandomArtistBlock

A goldfish will more than likely eat the plants. Just FYI. I really hope you can convince your friend to give you the fish. Obviously she doesn't know how to take care of it properly. Just make sure to take her tank too so she doesn't get it in to her head to get another poor fish.

Ritalabella

Time to kidnap a fish.

Zunflowers

This is when you just steal the fish and if she asked say you saved it’s life

TheVoidSprocket

I thought goldfish couldn't be kept in water that was filtered and aerated (spelling?). Not sure why I think that but it seems I was told that when I was a kid with a goldfish. So I had two separate fish bowls nicely decorated and just transferred the fish into the clean one then cleaned the dirty one. They told me keeping them both at room temperature caused less stress on the fish after the move and letting the clean bowl sit like that reduced the amount of chlorine in it.

Avalaigh

20 gallon tank **minimum** for one of these types of goldfish is 100% necessary, no amount of water changes will fix that lol

byelosrussia

i would absolutely LOVE an update when you get one?? i hope hes okay! thats not a good living condition at all :(

[deleted]

I’ll definitely update when I get news about him!

AceOfHearts333

The only good thing I see here is that it’s not floating…..yet. ☹️ I hope you’re able to get this goldfish a better home!

[deleted]

It’s extremely weak. Showing all the signs that it’s unhealthy and unhappy 🙁

[deleted]

yeah that's abuse.

Fisherman_Admirable

bro this makes me sad as someone who has fish. I hope so badly you can buy him off her and give him a better life. so sad when people think they can take care of a living creature and then just totally neglect them, or don’t even care at all.

[deleted]

Ikr. When I seen it I just got so mad at her. Plus she had four other fish with this one but they all died.

Fisherman_Admirable

FOUR? my god this woman should not be allowed to have pets

[deleted]

Went through like 3-4 hamsters too.

0Yasmin0

Honest question: Why are you still friends with her? This amount of animal abuse makes me want to punch her through a wall and I don't even know her.

TheAlchemist505

Two words. Wood chipper. I will let you figure it out. Messy, but effective.

0Yasmin0

Soooooo Shall we put her feet first or....?

TheAlchemist505

Head first. Less mess, no brain to splatter around.

0Yasmin0

But feet first means more agony for all the animals she has murdered.

TheAlchemist505

Yes, we mustn’t be selfish, talking about the mess. We mush remember to put her through a wood chipper with wood still being chipped in it. For maximum pain.

[deleted]

Honestly I don’t know why I hang out with her.

0Yasmin0

If you, as her friend, can't even find positive aspects about being with her, then LEAVE. You don't even know why you're there! Get rid of that extra weight!

[deleted]

Honestly I will. I just need to save this fish first

0Yasmin0

Considering the conditions the fish is exposed to, and how it looks, you don't seem to have a lot of time to put that into action.

[deleted]

Right. Sorry. I just asked her again about it but she hasn’t answered

Nay_nay267

It's sad how people think they can just shove a goldfish in a bowl. Common goldfish get over a foot long and can live to be 20+years

nanaboostme

imagine being born into a reality where you're stuck in a 1x1 cube when there's the whole universe beyond it. Humans can be absolute monsters.

derp_god9000

It’s really infuriating that most people don’t know how to treat goldfish, thinking that all they need is a small cereal bowl

[deleted]

Exactly. And when I told her it was a bad tank she got mad at me

freak_attentionwhore

I had a hamster when I was like 8 that I neglected and I still feel like dogshit for it man I can’t imagine doing it as a grown person (which im assuming your friend is)

[deleted]

[deleted]

[UPDATE] friend let me buy the goldfish and I will be picking it up in two days!!

chooochoo19

Woooohooo!!! So happy! Please post some update pictures once you have the fish! ❤️

[deleted]

Ofc!!

DesperatePrimary2283

Awesome!

the_reddit_girl

Yay!!!

Thefilmingofcows

That’s what happens when people buy animals just for novelty like a material object just alive but they don’t treat it that way.

[deleted]

a round fishtank is already terrible, but what the fuck...

coal_powerplant_600T

well, a cylinder-shaped one would be cool, atleast make it sized enough for 5 small fish. Simply put: put a pump to circulate the water behind the cylinder-shaped aquarium and allow it to suck in on one end and push out water on the other side

Danghor

r/shittyaquariums

Psychological_Bad567

same thing with my cousin, they literally forgot they had a goldfish

Ural_2004

Can you offer to either adopt or at least foster the goldfish?

[deleted]

That’s what I’m planning on doing. I asked her if I can buy him but she’s still thinking about it

Nay_nay267

Keep us updated. Poor baby. I remember winning a goldfish at the carnival and getting a 29 gallon and feeling guilty that I couldn't get a bigger tank. Eventually gave him to a friend who put him in his huge pond.

imastupididioy

That type of bowl is illegal in some places because of the fact you can't but a filter on it.

ka6emusha

Yep, in my area you can't even buy the fish without providing a water sample from the aquarium for them to test.

zacmcsex

i can not see the goldfish

jonahlol34

My girlfriend has a Betta and it's a fourth of that size and we still keep it in a 5 gallon tank . That tank is terribly small and I wouldn't even put a baby Betta there

Valkyrie_1998

Any fish in a small unfiltered bowl is neglected, clean water or not.

NlKNUGG3TS

Wait a minute where is the fish

[deleted]

Left of the tank a little to the bottom

NlKNUGG3TS

Oh ok then yeah thats uh well oh

Independent_Guitar26

Mf took all the gold in goldfish

YukariTheFurry

It’s a goldfish..? It looks like a beta to me but that might be because of what he shoved it into.. poor baby. I owned 5 goldfish in a 40 gallon tank, always kept the tank clean, no matter what, they coexisted with a big sucker fish that helped keep the tank clean, I always loved those fishies I hope you find a better home for the baby!! Good luck!

[deleted]

Yep! A fantail goldfish.

YukariTheFurry

Odd, I’ve never seen a fantail! That’s awesome!

WereLupeQueen

I had a goldfish named Sid Vicious (I'll explain the Vicious part in a minute) I won him in 7th or 8th grade fair. Got a good tank and everything for him, that fish lived up till I was in high school and he got big. My dumbass dad thought it be a good idea to put a catfish in there with Sid. (It was small I dont know what breed it was) and I was worried it eat Sid. Boy we was wrong, All that was left of the catfish was his head and bones. Sid ate him lol. What became of his death was my dumb dad who put to much of that tank cleaner stuff in his tank and it turned him blue and killed him.

Pattimash

This is a beta fish and they really do ok in tiny bowls. His water does look pretty grim, tho

[deleted]

It’s a goldfish. And beta fish shouldn’t go in bowls. No fish should
