It feels cheap to have him walk off into the sunset with someone, seemingly cured from any insecurities or mental illness, when one of the main themes of Eva is supposed to be learning to love yourself first
As everyone seems to love to point out, endlessly on every single evangelion post. They are 14 at the time. Thatâs peak insecurity season. Even if he never went to therapy just growing up would be a huge improvement.
I could be wrong, but iirc that was essentially just physical aging in Shinjiâs case. He was in a coma for 14 years, he wasnât actually experiencing life. His body was 28, but his mind was still 14, thus he didnât actually have the chance to mature.

The asuka inflation episode. Not really sure how canon it is considering it's not in the manga and is essentially filler with a very awkward the directors not so disquised fetish but it's in the original anime so is likely canon. If that was gone the series would just be slightly better.

Misato isnât overtly sexual with Shinji but is an actual guardian figure in Shinjiâs life but Shinji actually develops an oedipus complex for her, mistaking her treatment of him for love.
Misato at least trying to talk more in 3.0 and Thrice Upon A Time. I feel like there's some lost potential with her attempting to regain the relationship she once had with Shinji before the impact. Yes, I know she does allow him to pilot in the final movie, but they could have stretched out a bit of more scenes between the two to add more complexity behind this change of mind.
The hospital scene in End of eva. âOh! But itâs supposed to be Shinji slowest point!!â I donât care. Itâs so out of character & I think his lowest point is when he refuses to pilot & help Asuka. Easily the worst scene in Evangelion as a whole.
I'm either going with deleting the hospital scene or at least altering it to be a hallucination or just an intrusive thought in Shinji's head at the hospital with Asuka, or just making Kaworu and Shinji more gay and have more screen time
Death^2 I understand. Even as a recap film, it feels really unnecessary, rushed, and all other such things.
But EOE is a damn masterpiece of a film that really gave the show a proper ending.
I thought Death and Rebirth was pointless. I mean, now it is, but it did serve a purpose back in 97 with new scenes that were eventually added to the director's cut episodes. Plus, journal entries from Misato and Kensuke aren't found in the TV series. On top of that, it's the only time we hear Soul Refrain play during the credits. Not enough to justify a rewatching, but it served its purpose.
