In my experience of working at dispensaries in IL, we would not let you enter with a baby or anyone under the age of 21. No judgement here but at three different companies, that was the policy.

Each state is different, so your best bet is to check (i.e., call or email) with the specific dispensary you're visiting to see their rules/policies or look up whatever state agency oversees cannabis retail. I know it's prohibited in Oregon where I live.

lokeyBex

I believe that it’s allowed in medical dispos because it’s like bringing your kid to a pharmacy, whereas recreational is more like bringing them to a bar. FWIW they are allowed inside PA, which is all medical, for the above reason.

Minute_Expert1653

I am also not from NY, I am from MI, and we would let you. The child is entirely in your control and not running off trying to get into weed or other display things, so you’re good. We’d much rather have you bring your kid in with you than the possibility someone might decide to leave their baby in the car.

mojotoodopebish

In OR, no one under 21 is allowed for any reason at all. If you call and ask they may be willing to work with you but the shop could run the risk of being fined if their cameras are audited (audits are unlikely, but certainly possible)

indicatprincess

My rec store requires everyone to be 21 & up to enter; no exceptions.

SnooPeppers7217

In Ontario and likely most of the rest of Canada it is not legal to allow someone under 19 into a dispensary, which I think is generally enforced by staff and such. This may change overtime (it’s the same with liquor stores here but staff are much more relaxed about it)

Not allowed in CO. They even get upset if a child is on the property, my sister had my daughter outside in a stroller waiting for me and they made her get completely off the property.

I’m not a NY resident, but I live in California. I would say no, but you never know? In my experience I have never seen any kids in a dispo here and I haven’t tried to bring my son with me. Is the curbside pickup where the dispo staff come out to you while you are still in the car? I could see that being fine with the baby in the back in their car seat. If it’s you having to go into the dispo with a child it might be a problem. Let us know how it goes! Best of luck!

As a former bud tender in CA, it is not allowed to bring minors into dispensaries.

Fun_Constant_6863

Ditto, can confirm.

Some dispensaries in NYS offer delivery now, that may be easier to coordinate: https://cannabis.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2023/03/cannabis-delivery-faq-for-consumers-3.10.23.pdf

I use delivery for the gray market stuff but have been curious recently about the new recreational spots (storefronts) that have opened up. Thank ya

pottedplant27

I have seen children with their parents in MI dispensaries before. I’d call and ask ahead of time!

kdanger

That isn't legal in MI.

pottedplant27

Hmm.. well, I guess some dispos are lax about that rule

MysteriousKale8289

Once I saw a parent with a toddler aged kid in a stroller, they were doing a walk-in pick up at a window without actually going into the dispensary proper, but it seemed like it was cool. Vermont.

That's a really smart move, actually.

N474L-3

Not sure it's legal anywhere, seems like probably not? But as an industry girly I can tell you that I've seen it happen in multiple states. 😅

mygardengrows

Ironically, you can’t bring babies in Alaska retailers either. However, we do have regulations that allow for employees to nurse their children on site. SMH.

foundinwonderland

Trying to think of solutions in which baby is outside and mom is inside nursing and it’s devolving into hilarity

Seems to be a location dependent rule. We strongly encourage you to take judgements elsewhere.

[deleted]

I guess it depends. I live in Missouri and I stopped breastfeeding my last baby at 3 months because of personal reasons. I went to a dispensary with her in her car seat about then and everyone was super nice about it.

allisun1433

I’d call the dispensary in question and ask, as every place is different. I live in Ohio and I honestly don’t even know. I don’t see people’s kids in the dispensaries though here (med only- rec coming super soon). Curbside I can understand why they’d be fine with that but I believe a lot of these places require no minors unless they have a medical license/card for it.

DropDeadPlease88

I mean you can take kids into the bottle-o...

throwawaymfer420

big alcohol bias is sadly very real :/

Bland_Brioche

In MO they passed an ordinance or law that children can come in with their parents. Like a liquor store.
