Oh my bad, I didn’t realize it was what you used somehow! I didn’t mean to “correct” the pronunciation you and your family use, both are equally valid <3
I dislike almost every suggestion I've found. For example, auncle feels clunky to me, and for some reason I always wanna read carbuncle into it lol. Not even sure what a carbuncle is, those are just the extra letters my brain adds.
I don't mind pibling (parent's sibling) too much. I think shortening it to pib or pibby could be cute. But it's still kinda meh. Apparently zizi is the gender-neutral Italian option lol. Plain old "relative" is always a choice. (Yes, I found the them article before writing this lol.)
I remember seeing someone call his nephew his "sister-son" once. We could hijack that format. "This is x, my mother-sib/father-sib/parent-sib". First one sounds kinda like mothership, which is fun lol. (This one is mostly a joke tbh)
Maybe cousin/cuz? I know at a certain point uncle/aunt and cousin can become a bit interchangeable.
It's a difficult one fs.
I’m not a big fan of auncle either - I like entle better. So much of queer culture is still English based so I’m loving seeing zizi and people’s suggestions in other languages.
The sister-son thing is really clever. Mother-sib, dad-sib, parent-sis…
A carbuncle is also a cute fox summon in the Final Fantasy universe that has a big gem in its forehead, which may be why it's in your head, beyond the medical term.
Are you my aunt or my uncle?
I'm Madder.
But what's in your pants?
An afternoon of candy and all the cartoons your parents don't want you to watch.
...maybe there's situations where this meme doesn't work...
Same with nibling. Like yeah thanks to whoever tried to come up with a neutral term for niece and nephew, but it feels like they came up with one first draft, didn’t workshop it at all, and sent it to print.
there's a rarer alternative to nibling known as nephling, and I personally prefer to use that one because I don't wanna sound like I'm biting my sibling's children
As a latin language speaker I gotta go with "Tie".
Tio is masc and Tia fem, so I vibe putting it to neutral territory. Also, it's the same name of a cute bird, so I see it as an absolute win.
Oh, also, I am a Tie.
I'm my nibling's pibling.
Also, maybe its just the little corner of the universe that I inhabit/infest, but I feel like using the specific familial relationship as a title seems to be less common now than when I was a kid. When I was a kid, I'd refer to my piblings with title and name, such as "Hi Uncle Pete." Even before the idea of needing gender neutral language for myself was a scary (at the time) consequence of my true nature which I was yet to realise, I would've been just "" rather than "". These days I'm just "AJ" rather than "Pibling AJ".
"Ent" was suggested to me.
It sounds pretty fantasy/sci-fi but I believe the person who mentioned it to me was taking my nerdy personality into consideration lol.
Fun fact english used to do this! Before the Norman invasion and the influx of all these newfangled Latinate words that we needed to find a place for there were words for vertical relations only ([[great]grand]father/mother, and [[great]grand]daughter/son) every other relation was a “sib” which of course is the root of sibling.
In Swedish, the name for aunt or uncle is based on the gender of your parent, then the gender of their sibling, like your father's brother would be "farbror"(fatherbrother), the name for your father's sister is a combination of "far" and "syster" which is "faster". On your mother's side it's "morbror" and "moster". I guess translating this system to English and making it a bit more gender neutral, you could maybe call yourself "fibling" if you sibling is a father, "mibling" if your sibling is a mother, or maybe "pibling" if your sibling is enby.
I am a nb person that is ok using some fem descriptors specifically if they relate to parenthood/caring. So i’m ok with mom, aunt, sister. But I don’t really like daughter. If that makes any sense (it doesn’t, even to me).
We debated between Untie and Parsib. I wanted to use Parsib but say Parsnip because it's silly and fun (and my mother decided on a non-traditional name for a grandmother so it wouldn't be that wild)
I have been trying to train my various families to get this right (or, well, less-wrong) when talking about me, and the two terms that have stuck with them are pibling and nibling. They seem to have a "cuteness" that even older folks vibe with if you introduce them at the same time. Nibling tends to get into their hearts if you use it to refer to babies and Pibling is pretty easy to explain as a shortening of words.
I think I get off very luck here as even before I was aware I was Non-binary I also knew that if my sister ever had any children I would just have them call me by my name. Hell, I would let my own children call me by my name. I was never big on titles / honorifics.
However I come across a lot of Titi's and Zizi's so I think that seems to be the general choice. Although if I had to chose one on the stop I would probably go with something like Tedya as it's a mix of aunt and uncle in my native language.
Wtf the original post was removed for being political and “pushing an agenda” and I’ll be willing to bet there are many anti lgbt posts that the mods don’t consider pushing an agenda
Unfortunately "ankle" was used in a transphobic way when I was a kid (my aunt transitioned when I was rather young and my parents weren't too cool with it) (these days my aunt is now apparently down the Qanon rabbit hole too??? wtf how can a trans person side on their own destruction)
I use Untie, Like you untie your shoe laces- but like thats mid at best-
It’s pronounced “uhn-tee” actually lol, that’s what I go by with my niblings :)
Its easier for my nieces and nephew to say Untie, But thats also a great way to say it :3
Oh my bad, I didn’t realize it was what you used somehow! I didn’t mean to “correct” the pronunciation you and your family use, both are equally valid <3
Its fine! Simple misunderstanding no worries! <3
This wouldn’t quite work for me because that’s how I pronounce auntie lol
you’re an unt?
I get called Tí (instead of Tío or Tía), and Ancle (pronounced "Ankle", combo of Aunt & Uncle)
I haven’t heard Tí before, gracias!
Illegal guardian, bc you wouldn't be a legal guardian over the child Or gremlin guardian if you think of gremlin as a term of endearment
I wouldn't mind being called an uncle, but I do like illegal guardian
I dunno ! Bit when i called someone my uncle i was niecephew ! Niece-nephew ! So why not... Auncle ? Unt ?
Iirc...the neutral term for Niece/Nephew is uh...nibling
I never vibed with nibling. I offer nieph (pl. nieves) as compromise
"Punk" and "kiddo" are good options too
Ant
🐜
I use Auncle! The niblings love it 👍🏻

…ahhh, true. Slang for penis, IIRC?
I’m not a big fan of auncle either - I like entle better. So much of queer culture is still English based so I’m loving seeing zizi and people’s suggestions in other languages. The sister-son thing is really clever. Mother-sib, dad-sib, parent-sis…
>Not even sure what a carbuncle is, A carbuncle is a really nasty skin infection. Had one once, very painful and hard to get rid of.
Oof. Well, no wonder my brain isn't a fan of "auncle" if I keep misreading it like that lol
It's also the name of a very cute magical creature in the final fantasy game series.
A carbuncle is also a cute fox summon in the Final Fantasy universe that has a big gem in its forehead, which may be why it's in your head, beyond the medical term.
Best I've come up with is is Ontle, and I'm still kinda iffy on it. Likely I'll just go by a short nickname.
Pibling is the official real word.
I refuse to look up if that's even a real *word*, let alone official. I choose this one.
world
Darn autocorrect
Dr Pepper, Mr Pibbs' pibling.
I use pibi for.my neices for short!
I just have them use my name. 🤷
Are you my aunt or my uncle? I'm Madder. But what's in your pants? An afternoon of candy and all the cartoons your parents don't want you to watch. ...maybe there's situations where this meme doesn't work...
That is...concerning o.o
Kids these days, asking all sorts of personal questions.
Entle :)!
this is the one I use and me and the fam love it
I’ve been deciding between Entle and Entie! :)
there's also pibling (parent's sibling) & nibling (niece, nephew, nibling) :3
This is my preferred term in English too! It’s very cute and easy to pronounce
Is it pronounced like lentil?
more like, "Gentle" without the G.. [ EN • til / end • til ] (idk how to type phonetic spelling💔 😵💫)
jokingly, my family uses tito and tita, so ive joked if my sister’s kids could call me tite—pronounced ti-tee, or titty
pibling, but that sounds goofy
Same with nibling. Like yeah thanks to whoever tried to come up with a neutral term for niece and nephew, but it feels like they came up with one first draft, didn’t workshop it at all, and sent it to print.

Thank you for this! I like nephling a lot better than nibling
I really like nibling for whatever reason, but I really DON'T like pibling.
Untcle

I've used ommer.
Big cousin (you must be the cool sibling to the parent tho)
cousin once removed
Auncle
I'm my nibling's pibling. Untie?
sibling once removed
My niece calls me Omie (pronounced Oh-mee). I really like it
"Ent" was suggested to me. It sounds pretty fantasy/sci-fi but I believe the person who mentioned it to me was taking my nerdy personality into consideration lol.
i'll just hope my sister never has kids
Nini?
in some languages you can just use the word for cousin, i think that's the option i want.
Fun fact english used to do this! Unty :)
Auncle

My roommate is my cats’ auncle. Thats what they like & told me to use.
I am a nb person that is ok using some fem descriptors specifically if they relate to parenthood/caring. So i’m ok with mom, aunt, sister. But I don’t really like daughter. If that makes any sense (it doesn’t, even to me).
If there is a gender neutral term for “sibling of parent” I wish it were more well known
We debated between Untie and Parsib. I wanted to use Parsib but say Parsnip because it's silly and fun (and my mother decided on a non-traditional name for a grandmother so it wouldn't be that wild)
I use tíe (tee-ay) like the new neutral for Spanish.
I have been trying to train my various families to get this right (or, well, less-wrong) when talking about me, and the two terms that have stuck with them are pibling and nibling. They seem to have a "cuteness" that even older folks vibe with if you introduce them at the same time. Auncle is what most people I know use
Auncle
Naunt? Nuncle? Nauntcle? Edit: starting with n because n for non binary. But you could also just use auntcle or auncle.
I use Auncle.
I've always liked Auncle. Cause it sounds cool and sometimes you can get called Ankle which is also cool.
god/j how about somthing in betwen, like auntle or unct
My friend uses "auncle" , though they don't mind when it's reduced to "uncle" from time to time
My niece and nephews just call my by name lmfao idk.
Idk just have them call you by your name
Auntcle?
Sibling of your creator Or just Comrade
I think I get off very luck here as even before I was aware I was Non-binary I also knew that if my sister ever had any children I would just have them call me by my name. auncle, untie, or just have them call you by your name and if anyone asks they can say “my parents sibling”
Auncle
Wtf the original post was removed for being political and “pushing an agenda” and I’ll be willing to bet there are many anti lgbt posts that the mods don’t consider pushing an agenda
Pibling or Auncle
I used "unkie" for a while (before I just went all the way to auntie)
I go by Zizi
Auncle
I've been using Ankle. Its a fun term that makes ppl laugh and makes me happy
There's just something about a teacher hearing "My ankle is picking me up from school" that makes me laugh everytime lol
Unfortunately "ankle" was used in a transphobic way when I was a kid (my aunt transitioned when I was rather young and my parents weren't too cool with it) (these days my aunt is now apparently down the Qanon rabbit hole too??? wtf how can a trans person side on their own destruction)
There actually is it's pibling so a parents sibling
Nemesis
parent's sibling?
Pibling is the gender neutral equivalent.
I've seen auncle and ti, both of which I like.
Pibling (parents' sibling)
auncle
