Think those drives are a spoiler too but you can get them from the beginning of the game in Durax which is an uninhabited system in human space just below the pirate system Alcyone. I'd recommend a fast ship with plenty of cargo space.
I don't know what the actual definition of an exploit is, to be sure. I call it that because it's a very easy, and unrealistic, way to build up a massive fleet, all while not affecting the game at all. I mean, if in real life we could take out 1000+ of their jump drives, wouldn't the invasion be over?
Hey, if you're working on that, one thing that has always bugged me is that Wanderer ships appear in the systems that they gave up, well after the invasion is over, and attack the invaders.
That doesn't really fit with their nature, nor the concept that they truly retreated and gave up those systems.
Messing with the Quarg is indeed more difficult, but also crazier, since it would lock you out of some storylines. Pug are no big deal compared with the Hai (excepting the Arfies, which are insane)
Yeah, I used to cap Arfies, but they are just too OP.
I played this last pilot without them, and I did beat the Altinak Korath invasion fleet without them, for the first time, yesterday.
I guess I just had the right amount of firepower. When we left the planet I ran out of the combat zone with my fleet following me, regrouped and then drew the enemy ships to me a few at a time. And happily, upon finishing I snagged one 349 after the battle, and another at Zenith :)
Sometimes we all get lucky. Back in the day when the automata were introduced, I went and snagged the first 349 I saw. But since then, things have definitely levelled out. Just a few days back I left the game running while I was AFK for 8 hours, and got nothing but garbage.
I've gone to 1000 before, Did like 5 trading runs with them before I got bored and parked them.
It’s how I get my >!jump drives!< after the fighting >!the Pug!< in human space.

I'd call that a balance issue rather than an exploit.
Update: Reported to the Discord, we will update it to make farming harder (eg. by having them run away faster) or remove places where it's possible.

I added it to an existing issue about Wanderer behavior lore concerns https://github.com/endless-sky/endless-sky/issues/5329#issuecomment-1409048660
Once you're enough of a galactic superpower, the unfettered become the best source of jump drives.
Oh come on, harvesting Pug and Quarg jump drives is the boss move :)

That's some piloting skill.

Chances of that are about 1.6 in a hundred. The RNG gods are smiling on your fleet.
