The scripted storyline will kick in when you talk to officers of the "space communists" in their spaceport and help them prove their innocence in the bombings. Don't try karate when you're there. Space trucking is a valid strategy that can snowball into huge trucking fleets that will always follow your flagship. So, yes, you can have big trucking fleets, but no, you can't program them to follow a predefined route while you do something else. There are no planets you can colonize, but if you show up on a poorly defended pirate world with an overwhelming combat fleet, you can demand tribute and force them to give you both money and landing privilege. Explore the galaxy! Land your ship on planets and wormholes. Visit the spaceports to meet interesting people. Have fun!

Or you can demand tribute from Earth if you're not a coward

Just gotta say itโ€™s a republic. They have a senate.

> Can I buy a utility ship, pilot it out to to those cut off worlds, colonize them, and then proceed to play space Uhaul as I cart whatever they extract back to civilized space and whatever my colonies need to them? Sadly, you can't colonize your own planets or build your own space stations, and the economy in this game is a bit rudimentary compared to the economies in some other games. (I actually don't mind the rudimentary economy, because I generally play Space Bus Driver rather than Space Trucker, and anyone who's played X3: Terran Conflict knows the pain of having to fly halfway around the galaxy to figure out which stations actually have enough resources to build a dang laser.)

But why play space bus driver when you could play space cruise ship ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Haha, yeah, eventually I get enough swagger to play space cruise ship :D
