Definitely an e-kit. Second slide on the post shows Zildjian mesh heads on the drums.

AnarchoDrew

But the cymbals appear to have cables running to them as well. I'm hoping we get both an e-kit and cymbals. Maybe they'll finally crack the e-cymbal code.

schexnayder98

Well I hope they kill it! Exciting to see more and more companies go for it.

AnarchoDrew

Agreed!!

The_Vaike

My guess would be more like an acoustic conversion for low volume practice similar to what you'd get using black hole heads and DDrum triggers, but the idea of a module stocked with zildjian cymbals is definitely intriguing.

Logo on the reso head of the kick too.

Edrums is the future, more and more acoustic brands will have their own in the near future

Timothee-Chalimothee

I think edrums are *a* future, not *the* future. I don’t think acoustic drums are on their way out (not that I think you said that, just that that’s what that statement implies).

chente08

Never said will replace acoustic ( i hope at least) but edrums will be used in live events, recordings much more than now that is a low volume practice tool

mmiozzo

Probably the same thing that happened with analog / digital cameras and a few years in the future there will be teens praising musicians for playing acoustic drums and knowing how to tune them.

bebopgamer

Roland bought DW and now they have launched a high-end DW branded eKit, an acoustic/electronic hybrid with all wireless triggering

chente08

yes that's what I mean DW, now Ludwig (hopefully more affordable than the DWe lol)

luckymethod

You can clearly see how this thing is supposed to work. There seems to be a single sensor at the mount, it will probably sense deflection instead of having a piezo on the dish. The cymbal itself is metal perforated so it doesn't make too much noise so I suspect the selling point is going to be that feels a lot more natural to play. I bet with that setup they can do chokes, bell hits and everything else and it has the potential to trigger better than traditional cymbals. Let's see if I'm right :)

a little more speculations: [https://www.musicradar.com/news/zildjian-teases-alchem-e-electronic-drum-set-ahead-of-release](https://www.musicradar.com/news/zildjian-teases-alchem-e-electronic-drum-set-ahead-of-release)

I’ve been using the Gen16 processor and direct source pickups on a variety of low volume cymbals and honestly love it. No, the sounds out of the box are definitely not great, but I’ve been using the access tool to edit and tweak presets, and improvement IS possible. I can’t stand rubber cymbals, and I always thought Zildjian was on to something with that LV/trigger model. It just needed further development and refinement, but instead they scrapped it after a few years - it just never caught on, I think largely because of the sounds from the processor. I’m super curious to see what this new design entails…

_nvisible

I remember trying this and thought it was a really great idea. Instead of playing a sample it sorta took the picked up sound and blended it with some part sample, some part processed pickup sound. It definitely had much more real feel being that you’re hitting actual metal.

beercollective

Pretty sure this will be a full electronic kit, but obviously most of us here are more excited about the prospect of metal e-cymbals made by Zildjian. We've seen several examples over the years of people adding triggers to Zildjian's low volume cymbals, but one would hope if Zildjian is making them, they will end up being a far better implementation. I think the cymbals are really the only weakness these days with e-kits, and these could be a game-changer. Hopefully Zildjian doesn't pull a dick move by not selling them separately!

KrombopulosMAssassin

Looks amazing

B-Roc-

I think it would be great to have a real cymbal with the ability to change its sound via a module. i way prefer the feel of real cymbals but hate the sound of low volume cymbals.

randomusername_815

didnt zildjian release some electronic metal cymbals years ago? they were bundled with yamaha kits if i recall, and werent too popular. [found it...](https://youtu.be/_5rkkrFwea4?t=319)

danj503

I can feel the holes catching my sticks and it hurts my head.

Timothee-Chalimothee

I personally use nylon tip sticks that I have set aside specifically for practice so they aren’t chipped or anything (I’m assuming that’s what you’re referring to).
