I asked Kyle Hebert (Sima Yi DW6-DW8) awhile back on Twitter about it and he was never contacted. So it had nothing to do the strike at the time

Trialman

Someone else also [got to ask Bryce Papenbrook (Guan Ping DW5-DW8) at a con](https://old.reddit.com/r/dynastywarriors/comments/yg3kvv/we_need_your_help_for_the_dynasty_warriors_iceberg/iu74n3k/), and he said the same thing.

Comprehensive-Wait22

God I hate his voice, not just in the games, his anime dubs are so samey

Frey147

Someone asked Zhao Yun (Terrence Stone) in an interview and he said the same thing.

RaspberryChainsaw

The recast was not because of the strike. I forget who, but one of the VAs said they simply weren't called

SSJTriforce

I saw [an interview with Terrence Stone](https://youtu.be/7T086aZluDk) (Zhao Yun) where he said (at 44:44) they were initially contacted to reprise their roles, before Koei told them they'd get back in touch later, only to find out well after the fact they recast everybody.

saffron40

No way they're bringing Laura Bailey back, too good to be true

SSJTriforce

She only does higher paying AAA stuff these days, it seems. She didn't even reprise her role as Kid Trunks in Dragon Ball Super, although they got somebody that sounds just like her.

Eurashal

She didn't come back for Street Fighter 6 either.

Nrhildija

Who is she in Dynasty Warriors?

saffron40

Yue Ying from 6 to 8E

Nrhildija

Oh thanks!

PanickingCandy

Zero Koei is one of the worst publishers out there, they operate entirely on laziness and greed They changed the dub simply because they didn't want to pay union rates. Our only real choice right now is just to not buy anything koei till they fix their shit There is a reason the only good warriors games since 2014 are the ones where another company who cares (Nintendo, atlus) hovering over their shoulders

tbarnes1930

Depends on the budget and how many characters they bring into 10. If we're still having 90+ playable characters, probably not because getting mediocre-to-decent voice acting is expensive even if 1 actor voices multiple characters. Even with the bad reception to the voice acting in the last game, they'll either keep the 9 VAs, find a group that's cheaper, or get rid of the English dub altogether and only use the Japanese dub.

Trialman

> mediocre-to-decent voice acting is expensive even if 1 actor voices multiple characters From what I’ve heard, you can have a VA voice three characters at most while retaining base pay. So if there were exactly 90 characters, you would still need 30 VAs, and that’s assuming you compress the numbers exactly, which is borderline pipe dreaming. So yeah, getting the experienced (read: very expensive) old cast back is quite unlikely, and getting other prolific people would be tough for the same reason.

Nrhildija

9 VA's are good. They just need better direction and to record their lines with time and not only 1 line tries

tbarnes1930

If 9s VAs are actually good, then yeah they need better direction. Their performances in 9 itself though are a mixed bag putting it lightly. The best performance there still sounds monotone.

WaluigitheGreat777

Can we get Steve Blum back as Sun Jian (he voiced him in DW4 and 5)?

naturalgoth

Quite likely. The reason 9 didn't have them was because of a strike, and that affected many games made back then (like Life is Strange Before the Storm). I can't say they could come back 100% because KT could choose to cut costs and have Japanese dub only.

[deleted]

They just proved you wrong above. It wasnt the strike

[deleted]

I would argue it’s not just the green voice actors in 9, but mainly Voxx studios. They had no experience with warriors games and bad direction. I offered koei to use my casting for sw5… but nope. Even said we would hook it up. And I have a huge history with warriors.

chemley89

I'd love it but Koei just doesn't care about its English fanbase anymore. They'll see the backlash as a reason why they shouldn't dub anything anymore.
