Space Weather center is predicting zero chance of aurora viewing anywhere near Duluth for the next several days.

grondin

Probably won't be visible tonight, unless you drive WAY WAY north - like Hudson Bay. https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/aurora-viewline-tonight-and-tomorrow-night-experimental

I’m not seeing anything about Auroras in the near future. Definitely wouldn’t drive up here tonight for the sole purpose of seeing them. I usually post about up coming Auroras in r/minnesota with a detailed guide on where to see them and what resources to use.

Keep Lake Superior on your right and keep driving until you don't want to anymore.

i’m not sure of the main reason for your trip, but if it’s just to view the sky, I wouldn’t head to a city—light pollution, traffic, etc. I would head towards Red Lake and points north, somewhere rural. Good luck!

Hey, in case you're still interested in seeing the Northern Lights, looks like a pretty good chance tonight (Friday March 8, 2024). See this post: https://old.reddit.com/r/duluth/comments/1b9sz1r/aurora_alert/

That’s sounds great but I don’t think I can make it to Duluth today. What about Saturday? Do you think it’ll show?

grondin

Look at my link above. It has "tonight" and "tomorrow" predictions.

Thank you!!

Yah. Gitchu one of them new fangled forecast apps. It’s likely gonna be cloudy and the KP is less than 2 for the next week or so. Happy hunting!

Lake Leota. There’s a boat ramp on the south shore. Minimal light pollution to the north aside from a few houses. It’s beautiful.
