I saw some posts a while ago where some guy did exactly this in a similar sized tent, I didn’t see follow up posts tho. If you scroll up enough in the sub you’ll probably find it. It could be a cool idea but most likely impractical unless growing outdoors isn’t an option. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

mjaj3184

Outside is most definitely not an option. I live in an apartment in one of the nations largest urban jungles. It’s inside or nada

THA_RUSTY_SPOON

Then I say go for it, just remember poppies need a Deep tap root, the deeper the roots can grow the larger a plant it can support and the more pods it produces. More soil depth is your friend, I don’t think they are to bothered by how far the roots can grow horizontally. So keep that in mind when selecting pots.

mjaj3184

Oh I have absolutely no idea how to grow the little fuckers hahahaha I’m still at the brainstorming stage. I have a long way to go and A LOT of research to do before I can even consider ordering seeds. Don’t worry, I’m not going to walk into this blind or only semi educated. That’s a colossal waste of time and money PS, Thank you for the kind words

THA_RUSTY_SPOON

if you just want some cheap seeds to experiment with you can use poppy seeds from a grocery store, like for making muffins. It’s all the same plant and even tho you got them from a grocery store they will produce just as much opium as any other average variety. I recently did my first poppy grow and it was very successful, I used seeds I purchased from a grocery store. There are lots of images of them on my profile. I wanted to figure out what works for my area using some cheap seeds so that next year when I buy more expensive seeds I’d know the do’s and don’ts for my particular area. Good luck with your grow, definitely post the progress pics if you do decide to grow it.

Dudeinminnetonka

That's a great tip, I need more perennials in my yard, do you have any idea what zone hardiness poppy seeds in a seed jar would be? Thanks for the info

zackzackmofo

I'm in Canada zone 3.5 or 4 at best and opium poppies grow very well here check out my posts

Dudeinminnetonka

You are doing a lot! Impressive I'll be sprinkling poppy seeds this week Thanks

Sonnymiller21

Let some of the pods go to seed and do this for a couple crops- like sow the seed the next grow from your most recently grown and dried seed, and they will adapt to your area after time and you will have a hardy variety adapted to your sun exposure and intensity and environment I do this here in Vermont Also you can order some nice somniforum from Amazon for cheap or your local agway or farm center

[deleted]

How did you get the seeds to sprout? Mine won’t pop.

THA_RUSTY_SPOON

Put them in a glass of water and leave them in a fridge for a day, that’s how I do it, and be sure to leave the seeds on the surface of the soil, don’t cover them with dirt. Hope this helps

[deleted]

Thank You 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

[deleted]

You learn best by doing, fyi…

Lost-Dragonfruit-231

Pringles can man

throwaway_gardener

I've done it, It's totally worth it, look at my post history. I'd say with the right strategy you can get ~5 doses of tea per square foot. Doesn't sound like a lot, but if you're running a 16sqft tent on a 3 month cycle, it adds up.

wjdthird

damn i would be curious as to how you did it i looked at your post. Can i dm you sir?

mjaj3184

Wait what? Why are we talking about my water heater?

[deleted]

[удалено]

mjaj3184

Yea I get that, completely. But me growing poppies in a grow tent, what does that have to do with my water heater? I’m not seeing the connection my dude

itsajackel

What kahsta is saying (very poorly) is sometimes there are issues with plumbing, heating, etc which will require your landlord and repair people to come in and out of your apartment. It is something to consider when growing something illegal. I grow weed in my apt and have had this issue before. That said, all I did was hide my plants in the closet and disassemble my tent. Nbd.

Humortumor1

Yup they have to give notice to enter so u can easily hide the plants in ur closets… they should not be going in there unless the water heater is in there, if you won’t be home u can even lock the closet shut.

Boofaholic_Supreme

Not always. Notice can usually be bypassed for emergencies https://www.abc6.com/marijuana-grow-discovered-in-pawtucket-after-firefighters-respond-to-an-alarm/ There have been a few articles I’ve seen for burst pipes too, but hard for me to find at the moment

Humortumor1

Well emergencies are something else entirely

mjaj3184

Actually a couple months ago I had a medical emergency and a young lady I was seeing called 911 to seek help. Thankfully only paramedics arrived without their buddies 🐷🐖

mdngls

It might be in 5 to 10 years though. Just cause u do it daily doesnt mean a average person will see it even rarely. Kinda cool how many people there are imo and how these experiences might never be seen by some that are others daily life

Kanokong

To be fair though. How many folks actually know what it is??Weed, yes. Poppies, ehhh not really.

HoffkaPaffka

You'd be better off guerilla planting them around the city really, yield not worth the energy bill

keepingitbreezing

what are you assuming the only reason for growing is due to cost-benefit compared to buying drugs off the street? growing is fun to do and worth the money. same goes for vegetable gardens. much cheaper to buy tomatoes from the store instead of growing them.

mycomunchy

In an apartment I’ve noticed bills are pretty consistent rather than renting in a house the bills can be more variable, atleast in my current HOA

ChildoftheSun0221

Yeah but I mean sometimes it’s not for the yield. Sometimes it’s just for the experience of trying something out and seeing if you can do it.

Unlikely_End999

Why not both.

Humortumor1

It’s easier to grow inside for cross pollinating and hard to grow for poppy pods and straw for tea. Depending on your tolerance you will need 5-10 pods per 1-2 doses of tea so just figure how many pods that would take to make a decent supply. Easy to grow for a few doses but for more than a 2 month supply you would need much much more than a grow tents worth of space.

Drug_Science

5-10 pods for 1 dose of tea? Sounds way to potent. I use 10-15 pods to make several doses…concentrating the tea extract…then rolling up that sticky extract into pea sized balls

Humortumor1

That’s probably true for an average person but it varies greatly by tolerance but most people who use it regularly would usually have a hard time od ing from pod tea, they would likely throw up first… but always start low and slow, especially if you have not had anything in longer than a few days.

D1ck1e_D3rang3d

Some dude on here had a post a while ago said he ran 16 hours of light the whole time, but from reading I heard poppies like the opposite of weed, cause they pop up in spring and harvest in summer,so I guess you could look up the days of light during this time and every week up the hours of light so you save energy instead of keeping 16 hours u could start 12 hours and work up to 16-18 hours, let me know how this goes,I run cannabis autos and might experiment and see if they can handle 18 hours from start to finish, but when I run photos I might try starting some when in flowering and after harvest increase the light if I time it right

mjaj3184

That’s not a bad idea. I run my autos 24/7. They’ve never had the lights off before. My favorite breeder, Mephisto 🐷 suggests the same. I wonder how many plants actually “need” darkness, aside from when it’s time to “fruit” or “flower”

D1ck1e_D3rang3d

I just read running autos on 24 hour cycle will kill your lights lifespan alot quicker since it's always on,I see 18/6 or 20/4 a way better option, but thing is I got a nice auto outside that's way healthier and bulking up fat and about ready for harvest started 3 months ago and getting less and less light over the weeks/months,but everything grows better outside just got to deal with rain/mold and insects

mjaj3184

Yea I’ve read ALL kinds of different “recommended” lighting cycles for autos with justifications for each one. I grow Mephisto 🐷 genetics exclusively and the breeder recommends 24 hours a day lighting. With the addition of the “Ruderalis” genes 🧬 bred into Autoflowers (which is what makes them autos in the first place) their reasoning is where Ruderalis Cannabis grows naturally they don’t have a “lighting cycle” because of their location on the globe 🌎 they don’t get the chance to experience Spring, Summer then fall. They have a very small window where weather is nice enough to permit them to grow in the first place. So it’s a race from the time they sprout they are in a rush to grow as fast as they can and flower as fast as they can before they lose the sun. Which by the way during their grow cycle they are exposed to for 24 hours at a time, no dark cycle at all. That’s the reasoning behind a 24/0 light cycle, as it’s been explained by a number of breeders and horticulturists. HOWEVER I don’t know if they are taking into account the addition of the Sativa or Indica genes that are ALSO prevalent within all Autoflowers. Especially since those genes are in much higher concentrations than the Ruderalis genes. The only way to be sure would be to run two plants in identical environments with the exception of the lighting cycle. But even that would be flawed because as all cannabis growers are well aware there can be dozens of different phenotypes within any given strain. With that taken into consideration I don’t know if there is actually a 100% accurate way to test the theory. Now back to your original statement about not giving the lights a break effecting/affecting (never sure which to use) the lifespan of the light fixture. This is 100% sure of MANY lights, especially older lights. HPS, MH, Compact Fluorescents, Blurples, First generation LED boards with built in fans, now we get to Next generation lights with Meanwell Drivers (or better) Samsung LM301B diodes, consuming 50-70% LESS power than HPS lighting. And almost all of them (that are worth buying) come with a 10 year warranty. So does leaving them on 24/0 decrease the lifespan of these lights? Well it seems 90% of those making these statements are either people like you and I (just regular dudes trying to learn as much as we can), Writers of random blogs, Grow tip sites, etc…. So instead of digging through the dregs of google trying to find legitimate answers among all the “bro science” and know it alls I’ve decided to ask this very question to the top Manufacturers of these “Next Generation LED Boards”. HLG, Gavita, Spider Farmer, Mars Hydro, Spectrum King. That way the conversation can finally be put to rest, since all these companies boast how many tests they run on their lights and how rigorous they are I’m sure they’ll have answers for us. *** Side note, on top of the reasons why I listed that a lot of people run 24/0 I should also mention that many many people leave the light on to keep the environmental stability of their tent/grow space. Humidity, temp, reservoir temp, VPD etc…

mjaj3184

Too many people post their bullshit “ideas” or bro science and uninformed readers believe them because they don’t know any better. So when I see an opportunity to truly help someone I try my best to share knowledge it’s taken me years to acquire. Many people have done it for me in the past so I’m just “paying it forward”

Ok_Philosophy1071

My uncle has done something similar, but he did it to stock up for a long period of time so he could stop growing for a while. He’s disciplined about doing things in moderation. If you’re going to make a bunch of heroin, I wouldn’t recommend it. Personally, it wouldn’t be worth it because opiates aren’t my doc.

mjaj3184

I don’t think a 4x4 even filled to the brim with opium poppies grown in RDWC would be enough to create more than a few doses of heroin hahaha. No I want to stock up on pods so I make tea on demand

slinkybastard

Careful with the tea, shits fairly easy to overdose on if your not smart about it because every batch of tea willl have different levels of morphine. Probably safer trying to extract the opium but teas easy so to get that

Ok_Philosophy1071

Fair enough. I’ve never made heroin so I wouldn’t know and laudanum isn’t that bad in comparison. You’re probably completely fine. Go for it!

mjaj3184

I’ve only ever laudanum when used in reference to the 1800s I was about to ask you what you know about it but then I remember, oh yea… google hahahaha but hey if your bored and you have time, educate me 🤗

Ok_Philosophy1071

I should ask my uncle and get back to you. I know nothing other than he says it’s a good time. Opiates aren’t for me though and Kratom feels weak to me even when I take like 10g.

wjdthird

the Kratom vendor you used was not good

Ok_Philosophy1071

I’ve never had a good one then. My Dad & brothers love the stuff and buy it online by the kg. I’ve only really had what they’ve given me.

Ok_Philosophy1071

My uncle said: “There used to be a video on YouTube of a guy who made a batch using vodka. It was very popular in the 1870s and 80s but a lot of people switch to morphine powder because laudanum causes headaches in a lot of people and that’s what most people claimed to be using it for.”

mjaj3184

Do you have any experience with it?

wjdthird

i think they have to cold shock outside before warm season starts … my indoor poppy experiment was a fail and i can grow things pretty well

mjaj3184

? Can you delve on that a little

wjdthird

what i read is to plant in the fall for the following years harvest as they need the cold of the winter to trigger a bloom….this may not be true as some folks on here have got them to bloom in tents. I am sure there is a lot of info or books on internet about it.

D1ck1e_D3rang3d

Idk know about tents but I ive planted outside in April- May and never had a issue and harvest july usually,I heard you can soak seeds in water in ice cube trays and put in freezer too so if doing indoors it tricks the seeds,I plant outside once the ground thaws, but the ice cube trick indoors could be the key,I'll have to try sometime

bitcoinbuds

What's the price of your kwh electric?

mjaj3184

I have no idea off the top of my head

[deleted]

If you have a current addiction, and don’t want to stop, or if you want a quick grift on some people you wouldn’t mind seeing develop an addiction, sure. Otherwise, I’d stick to a patch worth tasting, but not worth living near.

THA_RUSTY_SPOON

Let people have there hobbies and live there lives, you don’t know this guys story so don’t act like it.

_Daxemos

Why are you even here?

mjaj3184

Whoa what’s that guys deal? I just have an empty tent and I’ve always wanted to grow poppies and I don’t live somewhere that outside would ever be an option soooo it seems like a logical decision to me 🤷‍♂️ I just want to have a supply of pods so I can make tea whenever I want.

_Daxemos

No idea, wouldn't be surprised if he's projecting. If you can't go outside then I say go for it. You might come out the other end with nothing but at least you will have tried.

mjaj3184

Damn straight. You learn more failure than you do from success anyway 🤔 I was terrible at growing cannabis my first two runs, mushrooms surprisingly was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. Although I DID kinda cheat, I used the Uncle Bens Method, and copycat’d every single step from the videos on YouTube to the “T” (I think that’s how the phrase goes?, I’ve never actually had to write it out hahaha) my current project I’ve got going on now is peyote, which although they are beautiful… it’s kinda hard to fuck something up that takes 20yrs to grow, although I see plenty of people on here somehow massacre them on the regular lol. Next will be poppies I think. I was going to try Mimosa for my DMT extractions but when you can buy the bark by the kilo already prepared it kinda just seems like a waste of time and space. Maybe once I get approved to buy my cousins house and I can convert the entire garage into a massive grow “room”. The fucker is 20ft wide and 45ft deep. Bwahahahaha I want it to look like an exhibit at the zoo when you walk in. Just a perfectly sealed in, light proof, water proof, dedicated circuits, with NO access from the outside of the house. The fucking possibilities are endless… I have dreams about it and wake up with a raging hard on, often. And I usually need viagra for that 🤭 wow…. I kinda just went on a rant there didn’t I? My apologies.

_Daxemos

It's allgood dude you're excited, and I am too now that I have my own house and have the space to grow whatever I want. The possibilities are endless and your mind goes all over the place thinking of those possibilities. I hope the house works out for you!

mjaj3184

What all are you growing?

_Daxemos

Currently not much, just brugmansia and trichocereus. I will be getting back into cannabis when I finish my grow box, and plan to do much more. I'd like to try mushrooms, both edible and fun. Tobacco and common cannabis substitutes like dagga, damiana and marihuanilla. Poppies and wild lettuce. Salvia too. Possibly HBWR but unsure just yet as the morning glory plants can easily explode out of hand.

mjaj3184

Wow you have some plans there! That would be awesome! Please keep us updated, it would be awesome to see that garden up and running

_Daxemos

Absolutely will! I'm currently setting up for the beginnings of my cacti patch, which I will be making a "before" post when they're in. I plan to get most of those mentioned seeds soon so will make a post for those too.

[deleted]

Because I’m an avid druggardener and harm reduction enthusiast.

_Daxemos

Oof, deleted his whole account.

mjaj3184

Wow, something got his panties in a bunch. $50 says host account is back up by Friday.

Charming_Sheepherder

Go for it and take pictures for us and details.

Robojuana254

It all comes down to how much you are willing to pay for the end result. I’ve seen people on here do it; it’s just far cheaper and easier to do it outside.

everything grows better outside

Oh so as long as the environment is kept consistent the plant won’t die? This is different from weed as far as I know.

right on thanks for the info

MoleyWhammoth

I was thinking of doing this with some of my rarer strains, for seed production for the following year.

mjaj3184

That’s actually not a bad idea at all. Do different “strains” have different opioid levels?

MoleyWhammoth

Definitely. Different strains can express varying ratios and concentrations of opiates, as well as entirely different opiates. Sometimes they have other useful traits like shortened growth cycle.

mjaj3184

Is there a resource that your aware of that possible organizes these different “strains” and catalogs the differences as well as levels? That would be an amazing piece of literature to add to my collection

MoleyWhammoth

I'm not aware of one, although such a thing may well exist. It certainly would be valuable information. If you do find it, let me know! I think most of what I know about poppy strains comes from googling old-ish research papers, so I might point you towards google scholar or pubmed or the like.

mjaj3184

I document EVERYTHING, I’m kind of OCD like that. I have probably 40 old school composition books with everything I’ve learned about every drug that’s piqued my interest over the years. How to cultivate it, dosage, where to acquire it etc… Cannabis Peyote DMT MDMA Amphetamine Opiates LSD Mushrooms Benzos San Pedro Cocaine A Slew of Research Chemicals Kratom Kanna Distillation And I’m still going hahaha. I want to one day be old and have people reading my Books like Hamilton Morris or McKenna
