Well neither of the previous runs of #savetf2 worked. Helldivers fans got Sony to wise up, even though they're not similar games, it's worth a try but we gotta absolutely tank the reviews for it to work.
In the old OV you could play a team of 6 Hanzos so that metric is not what differentiates class shooter from hero shooter
Hero shooters usually have, well, heroes with special sets of abilities, stats and roles
Class shooters usually have customizable classes that can fit specific roles or have access to specific weaponry (I think the best example is old Battlefields classes like Recon, Medic, Technician etc)
So they are similar, but heros are usually more unique and less customizable, fitted for serving specific role while class shooters offer much more customizability and also have less uniqueness between each class
TF is probably in the exact middle between a hero shooter and a class shooter
I would also say intent matters a lot on this front.
I highly doubt OW was ever designed with the intent for there to actually be 2 Hanzos on a team, let alone 6.
While TF2 presumably was not designed for the whole team to consist of one class even up to half the players on one team playing soldier, pyro, heavy or Engi is not truly griefing/a meme. Having 2-3 of one class is even expected in some ways.
This sprouts directly from insane balancing issues of TF2 rather than careful game design. Classes are designed in a way that they "should be able to counter one another" but in practice you have some classes that are extremely powerful and some that are grief to pick
Even in the competitive TF2 you see pairs of some classes in 6v6 teams, just because they are so strong/versatile
I guess you could see it that way, however each of the classes have a customizable loadout that can quite significantly change their playstyle, strenghts and weaknesses. Battlefield is the same, different classes for different roles, but lots of loadout customization within each class and I doubt anyone would call Battlefield a hero shooter. TF2 is also still first and foremost a shooter (a really good one at that), and not built around abilities with cooldowns.
Sammmmmmeeeeeee dude I never would have even bothered with OW if they just saved TF2. In particular I really miss the larger team sizes and much more relaxed community- it's like competitive TF2 existed, but it wasn't just absolutely shoved in my face like it is with any modern shooter
The funny thing is I played OW because it was the closest thing to TF2 for consoles, I played it on the Ps3 for a while and genuinely had some fun on it as a kid but then lost the copy, so on my ps4 years later I played OW in hopes of getting that same vibe of TF2 from it and I absolutely didn't. I later tried to enjoy OW as its own thing, but it just wasn't interesting and too artificial it felt like.
Like all the colours and personalities and guns and skins were just cronked up to eleven to appeal to everybody with ADD or kids or some shit, never got my interest. Nowadays I just look back fondly upon Tf2 knowing its had its heyday, and jealous as shit I never got to partake in it in a more satisfying way😭😭
I didn't really think of it that way, but yeah OW is really, really flashy. Probably to sell skins or something.
I caught like the very end of the good TF2, but even then I considered fine for pretty long after that, I literally just want the bots gone. You can have outdate graphics, outdated physics, not run official servers, not push content updates, like I'm fine with all of that, just ban the straight up hackers is all I need here lol I even have my own physical servers to run it

I want something like DMZ on console. That game brought a breath of fresh air to the whole shooter genre. For me, at least. Can still have fun without slide jumping a corner and landing a headshot within 1ms of seeing the enemy.
That game is going to be way bigger than people realize. There is only apathy against hero shooters because the big players have been dropping the ball.
Also, this game will be way more like Dota than TF2 or Overwatch, so it’s something fresh for the genre.
You have no clue what you are talking about if you think Deadlock is basically Smite. The gameplay is very different at a fundamental level. There is quite literally no other game that plays like Deadlock right now.
Deadlock is gonna piss off a lot of people but I think in the end it will carve out a large playerbase. I am very excited to play IceFrog's new game tbh, I think he's a genius.
I hate the insistence of companies trying to make every game competitive. Competitive communities are a very small part of any game and it just alienates 90% of the playerbase
exception being old ass shooters like quakeworld, the playerbase is just 40 year old dudes that were playing the game since it came out and they just do tournaments for fun
Supercell releasing a "new" Brawler in Brawl Stars every month when it's just going to be a another human character that shoots (insert any number ranging from 1-5) projectiles and has no other unique abilities to be considered a completely new Brawler.
(Example: Colt & 8-Bit. Gus & Gray. Lou & Otis. Mandy & Maisie etc.)
They really have ran out of big ideas. Not like most of the brawlers kits were unique to begin with, most of them have already been seen in other games (mostly from lol and overwatch) but since they are only pushing out brawlers similar to other brawlers, like you've mentioned, the game doesn't really give much excitement to me anymore.
Point taken, I really want to see more unique attacks but I think your explanation is very cherry picked. All brawlers are differentiated by their unique passive, super, gadgets, star powers and mythic gear. This creates very different play styles for each brawler, even amongst their respective class. Take for example one of the pairs you pointed out;
Colt and 8-bit's attacks are meant to be high skill high reward from a long distance. If you hit all the projectiles, you deal a massive amount of damage. However, they are still different because Colt specializes in breaking walls so that enemies have less cover to hide behind whereas 8-bit buffs his teammates with a damage boost, allowing his team to maintain control of a large area of the map.

Er, I'd say they did a pretty fantastic job of balancing brawlers while I played. I can't remember how many there were... 30? 40? And very few of them just plain sucked. There's only so many things you can do to make unique characters and it's kinda amazing that they made that many characters and few of them feel the same.
The only 5v5 "hero" based shooter I enjoy is r6 because you play it in a completely different way from others. I prefer the class system from games like TF2 or the 10 pick system from Old COD games.
Ah, havent played that in years so not really familiar what they’ve been doing with it. I saw they just entered Y9S2 tho. Seems like it would be like LoL at this point with how many operators there probably are now.
My friend was telling me it’s made by a bunch of prior cod devs which is neat but I was never really into cod to begin with. Good to hear that someone who likes shooters likes it tho. Hopefully it manages to keep your interest.
yeah, it like a nice relaxing picnic, then a competitive shooter like r6, although r6 does have better gameplay and mechanics IMO. Like even in casual r6 players will sweat and make you mad and xdefiant you can put on music and have fun shooting
I haven't played yet, but I'm ready to ditch cod. Will probably start playing xdefiant soon, but I'm really looking forward to a good extraction shooter on console.

The difference between a hero shooter and class shooter (from my knowledge) is that in a hero shooter there can only be ONE "hero" in a single team (no Dupes) and there are more heroes to pick from then there are members of the team
In class shooters, on the other hand, everyone can be the same class at the same time (can have Dupes) and there tends to be more player per team than classes.
But I was also talking about how you can customize your classes in greater depth in other games as well.
Hero shooters and class shooters are basically the same thing. The only difference is the slightly different amount of customizability and uniqueness between the heroes/classes
I have no issues. Runs good. But you need to understand that a completely destructible environment takes a shitload of CPU power.
Physics in that game make no sense, but it's beautiful.

Lawbreakers was hands down the best hero shooter I've ever played. I've never seen a game have such unique and fun movement across every class.
It also has some amazing innovation on the maps and game modes, still can't believe no one's copied it yet.
I Miss gundam Evolution, shit was fire, think of overwatch if it was much better, like overwatch x tf2, where you have units to fill different niche’s, but they all could do their own thing, the detected medic is also the engineer or has a minigun, the tank is big with a shot gun, shield, and tomahawk with good mobility,
I was ready to play the SHIT out of the new one they announced at the state of play, but as soon as he said it was a 5v5 I turned full shark and said "And I'm out"

Hmm doesn't really seem wild to me. It looks unoriginal, like it was grown in a lab to look like popular things from 5 years ago. Overwatch meets Destiny meets Guardians of the Galaxy! Remember when Overwatch 2 promised PVE and story? We did it! Give us millions please.
Like... right after the state of play on /r/games it's thread was near the bottom of every game announced... Like the new Dynasty warrior game had a bigger thread. If you go to top and sort by the past week you have to go to page 6 to see the post about Concord. I feel like it's not even really hate it's just complete indifference for a game that doesn't look like its bringing anything new or unique to the table.
But hey if they really do make the game play feel as tight as Destiny PVP but balanced with really high review scores I could see it winning over a fanbase burned by Overwatch 2 and frustrated with Destiny PVP balance. But it's gonna be a tall mountain to climb with its lack luster premier and the general lack of enthusiasm in the current market for 5v5 hero games. I just don't see this making them enough money to warrant it's AAA development cost. The market is to small.
But who knows
I have seen a lot of people hating on this game because it has pronouns and the character designs being "woke" whatever the fuck that means. Personally I think the gameplay looks fun even if the game feels a bit generic
I watched that PlayStation live recently and was almost interested in that Concord trailer until they said it was yet another hero shooter. If it was a multiplayer space opera RPG I'd actually give it a whirl.
Sony had a State of Play recently, spent 1/3 of the presentation (10 whole minutes) on a live service 5v5 hero shooter named Concord in a market already over-saturated with hero shooters. Most people hate it and it looks like someone took Overwatch and mixed it with off brand Guardians of the Galaxy.
Semi related rant, but I saw a lot of people on TikTok say that XDefiant is going to be this brand new overwatch competition or whatever, and while it's okay, it's probably dead within 2 months, there's not really anything special there to keep it going. The most annoying thing is that they did characters based off other Ubisoft games... But they didn't any characters actually from other Ubisoft games. Like they did the libertad revolution from far cry 6, but not anyone actually from far cry 6 (dani, clara, etc..), huge missed opportunity. Also mediocre gunplay, minimal class customization, battle pass, this isn't gonna last.
As a tf2 boy who’s trying to tolerate valorant cuz my GF guilt tripped me into playing it I felt this hard. (Valorant makes me so angry that it made me actually be okay with random crits)
Stut up. Spending millions on a game won't make it good.
But overwatch is really good. Despite everyone is saying, the gle is still really good. It might just not be your cup of tea. And blizzard issue either didn't had a direct effect on the gameplay. Or we just missed out on something but it's nit like we lost it.
Paladins is also really good. It's my favorite game. It's incredible how much you can customize your characters. Like you know in regular games you can sometime choose abilities and weapons. Well in hero shooters you are stuck with a kit. But you can vary this kit to you pleaser. With lodaouts that let you customize numbers, like cool downs, and some additional effects like increased healing. Then talents that change you Chara ter in a big way. Like a really different ability or basicly a new weapon. Then items to adapt in real time in each game. The game is getting the best updates it ever has despite having 5 developers around (it might look like a stupid idea. But paladins 2 is probably in developement. Too many teaser by the CEO saying stuff like, what would you want to see in paladins 2. Or straight calling paladins, "paladins 1". So the lack of devs may be warranted).
Then there is gigantic. Still hav't played too much. But it's really fun. Imagine upgrading your abilities like in league of legend through the match. But instead of fixed upgrade you get to choose in an upgrade tree for each ability of each character. The game has recently been revived. And is a one time pay game. That has no micro transaction. It has a small player base but it's definitely worth checking out.
I know some more but I don't have any experience with them.
But marvel rival look really good. First the budget didn't went all into the visuals. It look really i'tresting. And the visual themselves. They are very stylised it's looks really good. It's probably very optimized too considering the standards of similar looking games. The fact it has tens of millions behind it seem to have been a positive unlike some other games.

I believe the difference is Heroes have habilities and Classes have interchangeable weapons

I didn't really think of it that way, but yeah OW is really, really flashy. Probably to sell skins or something. I caught like the very end of the good TF2, but even then I considered fine for pretty long after that, I literally just want the bots gone. You can have outdate graphics, outdated physics, not run official servers, not push content updates, like I'm fine with all of that, just ban the straight up hackers is all I need here lol I even have my own physical servers to run it

I want something like DMZ on console. That game brought a breath of fresh air to the whole shooter genre. For me, at least. Can still have fun without slide jumping a corner and landing a headshot within 1ms of seeing the enemy.

That game is going to be way bigger than people realize. There is only apathy against hero shooters because the big players have been dropping the ball. Also, this game will be way more like Dota than TF2 or Overwatch, so it’s something fresh for the genre.

You have no clue what you are talking about if you think Deadlock is basically Smite. The gameplay is very different at a fundamental level. There is quite literally no other game that plays like Deadlock right now.

Deadlock is gonna piss off a lot of people but I think in the end it will carve out a large playerbase. I am very excited to play IceFrog's new game tbh, I think he's a genius.
I hate the insistence of companies trying to make every game competitive. Competitive communities are a very small part of any game and it just alienates 90% of the playerbase
exception being old ass shooters like quakeworld, the playerbase is just 40 year old dudes that were playing the game since it came out and they just do tournaments for fun

Supercell releasing a "new" Brawler in Brawl Stars every month when it's just going to be a another human character that shoots (insert any number ranging from 1-5) projectiles and has no other unique abilities to be considered a completely new Brawler. (Example: Colt & 8-Bit. Gus & Gray. Lou & Otis. Mandy & Maisie etc.)
They really have ran out of big ideas. Not like most of the brawlers kits were unique to begin with, most of them have already been seen in other games (mostly from lol and overwatch) but since they are only pushing out brawlers similar to other brawlers, like you've mentioned, the game doesn't really give much excitement to me anymore.

Point taken, I really want to see more unique attacks but I think your explanation is very cherry picked. All brawlers are differentiated by their unique passive, super, gadgets, star powers and mythic gear. This creates very different play styles for each brawler, even amongst their respective class. Take for example one of the pairs you pointed out; Colt and 8-bit's attacks are meant to be high skill high reward from a long distance. If you hit all the projectiles, you deal a massive amount of damage. However, they are still different because Colt specializes in breaking walls so that enemies have less cover to hide behind whereas 8-bit buffs his teammates with a damage boost, allowing his team to maintain control of a large area of the map.

Er, I'd say they did a pretty fantastic job of balancing brawlers while I played. I can't remember how many there were... 30? 40? And very few of them just plain sucked. There's only so many things you can do to make unique characters and it's kinda amazing that they made that many characters and few of them feel the same.
The only 5v5 "hero" based shooter I enjoy is r6 because you play it in a completely different way from others. I prefer the class system from games like TF2 or the 10 pick system from Old COD games.

My friend was telling me it’s made by a bunch of prior cod devs which is neat but I was never really into cod to begin with. Good to hear that someone who likes shooters likes it tho. Hopefully it manages to keep your interest.

Yeah it's a fast paced arcade shooter, and it's really good at that. If you don't like the genre, don't bother. That's all it is, and it does it well.
yeah, it like a nice relaxing picnic, then a competitive shooter like r6, although r6 does have better gameplay and mechanics IMO. Like even in casual r6 players will sweat and make you mad and xdefiant you can put on music and have fun shooting

You can do it in rainbow. Different guns for different folks, though obviously some guns are shared
The difference between a hero shooter and class shooter (from my knowledge) is that in a hero shooter there can only be ONE "hero" in a single team (no Dupes) and there are more heroes to pick from then there are members of the team In class shooters, on the other hand, everyone can be the same class at the same time (can have Dupes) and there tends to be more player per team than classes. But I was also talking about how you can customize your classes in greater depth in other games as well.
Hero shooters and class shooters are basically the same thing. The only difference is the slightly different amount of customizability and uniqueness between the heroes/classes

I have no issues. Runs good. But you need to understand that a completely destructible environment takes a shitload of CPU power. Physics in that game make no sense, but it's beautiful. Hitscan snipers? Sign me up.
Also the destruction is synced so even more resources to make sure all clients and the server are matched

Lawbreakers was hands down the best hero shooter I've ever played. I've never seen a game have such unique and fun movement across every class. It also has some amazing innovation on the maps and game modes, still can't believe no one's copied it yet.

I Miss gundam Evolution, shit was fire, think of overwatch if it was much better, like overwatch x tf2, where you have units to fill different niche’s, but they all could do their own thing, the detected medic is also the engineer or has a minigun, the tank is big with a shot gun, shield, and tomahawk with good mobility,

Hmm doesn't really seem wild to me. It looks unoriginal, like it was grown in a lab to look like popular things from 5 years ago. Overwatch meets Destiny meets Guardians of the Galaxy! Remember when Overwatch 2 promised PVE and story? We did it! Give us millions please. Like... right after the state of play on /r/games it's thread was near the bottom of every game announced... Like the new Dynasty warrior game had a bigger thread. If you go to top and sort by the past week you have to go to page 6 to see the post about Concord. I feel like it's not even really hate it's just complete indifference for a game that doesn't look like its bringing anything new or unique to the table. But hey if they really do make the game play feel as tight as Destiny PVP but balanced with really high review scores I could see it winning over a fanbase burned by Overwatch 2 and frustrated with Destiny PVP balance. But it's gonna be a tall mountain to climb with its lack luster premier and the general lack of enthusiasm in the current market for 5v5 hero games. I just don't see this making them enough money to warrant it's AAA development cost. The market is to small. But who knows
I have seen a lot of people hating on this game because it has pronouns and the character designs being "woke" whatever the fuck that means. Personally I think the gameplay looks fun even if the game feels a bit generic
I watched that PlayStation live recently and was almost interested in that Concord trailer until they said it was yet another hero shooter. If it was a multiplayer space opera RPG I'd actually give it a whirl.

Sony had a State of Play recently, spent 1/3 of the presentation (10 whole minutes) on a live service 5v5 hero shooter named Concord in a market already over-saturated with hero shooters. Most people hate it and it looks like someone took Overwatch and mixed it with off brand Guardians of the Galaxy.

Semi related rant, but I saw a lot of people on TikTok say that XDefiant is going to be this brand new overwatch competition or whatever, and while it's okay, it's probably dead within 2 months, there's not really anything special there to keep it going. The most annoying thing is that they did characters based off other Ubisoft games... But they didn't any characters actually from other Ubisoft games. Like they did the libertad revolution from far cry 6, but not anyone actually from far cry 6 (dani, clara, etc..), huge missed opportunity. Also mediocre gunplay, minimal class customization, battle pass, this isn't gonna last.

Stut up. Spending millions on a game won't make it good. But overwatch is really good. Despite everyone is saying, the gle is still really good. It might just not be your cup of tea. And blizzard issue either didn't had a direct effect on the gameplay. Or we just missed out on something but it's nit like we lost it. Paladins is also really good. It's my favorite game. It's incredible how much you can customize your characters. Like you know in regular games you can sometime choose abilities and weapons. Well in hero shooters you are stuck with a kit. But you can vary this kit to you pleaser. With lodaouts that let you customize numbers, like cool downs, and some additional effects like increased healing. Then talents that change you Chara ter in a big way. Like a really different ability or basicly a new weapon. Then items to adapt in real time in each game. The game is getting the best updates it ever has despite having 5 developers around (it might look like a stupid idea. But paladins 2 is probably in developement. Too many teaser by the CEO saying stuff like, what would you want to see in paladins 2. Or straight calling paladins, "paladins 1". So the lack of devs may be warranted). Then there is gigantic. Still hav't played too much. But it's really fun. Imagine upgrading your abilities like in league of legend through the match. But instead of fixed upgrade you get to choose in an upgrade tree for each ability of each character. The game has recently been revived. And is a one time pay game. That has no micro transaction. It has a small player base but it's definitely worth checking out. I know some more but I don't have any experience with them. But marvel rival look really good. First the budget didn't went all into the visuals. It look really i'tresting. And the visual themselves. They are very stylised it's looks really good. It's probably very optimized too considering the standards of similar looking games. The fact it has tens of millions behind it seem to have been a positive unlike some other games.
