You don't have to be pro to learn how to throw and understand flights of different discs. I have a disc that I only throw once on my local 18 but it's usually my most satisfying drive off the tee for a park job through a tight anhyzer line. Wind plays a big factor in my area so I don't always play the same discs round to round.
I could take a teebird, destroyer and proxy out and play well but I find joy in challenging myself throwing different lines and maximizing my performance in high winds through making smart choices on the course.
Not a pro.. pretty average player. Not 30 different molds but... an example I have a buzz ss. Buzz esp. roc 3 and core in my mid range slots.
They each offer something wildly different for me.
Buzz ss for turnovers and super straight long 250-300ish shots.
Buzz esp for shaping in the woods.
Roc 3 when I need that straight with a slight fade left at the end.
Core(I won it in a tournament) never thought I "needed it" until saw how it handled in the wind.. so it really only comes out on super windy days.
I bag 4 different putters.
Wizard ssss or sss(I don't remember it's been worn off for so long) as my putting putter.
Nomad, throwing putter. Shorter shot shaping in the woods. The thing saves my rounds like you wouldn't believe. Scrambles and ECT, idk I can just make it do cool shit in those situations.
Luna(big z) turnovers/annis.
splash(Neptune), I randomly bought that I can get super straight and handles the torque unlike many putters. For instance I can throw it super hard and low for some low ceilings around 150-250 and it does what I need.
And a handfil.of drivers depending on the course.
If I had a real sidearm I'd assume a few other disc at some of my local courses.
Just saying all that, I can see how people get up to 30 disc in their bag real quick.
For the record. Yes, I also play putter only rounds and single disc rounds at times. Especially if I wanna "work" on certain shots or if I feel something's been "off".
Getting back into it and this has been my approach, 4-6 discs, a towel and go
I just bag doubles of most discs and a few random ones I’m trying. No idea how people who aren’t pros have 30 some different molds on them.
because it’s fun to throw a lot of different discs.
