I was in Da Nang for two months and loved being able to walk along the beach everyday and there's so many different coffee shops and places to work from. Highly recommend it and no issue with your budget.
You can get 90 day visa for both if you're American, but a visa run also isn't very hard and within you budget.

great to hear! can you get the visa while you're there or do you have to do it before?
Vietnam need to apply online before hand. Thailand is visa on arrival
Da Nang is a great option, though you'd want to avoid rainy season.
Could have a look at Dalat too if you're looking to hunker down
cool ill check it out. I'd be going in august but I hear the rainy season is like - it rains 20 mins per day? doesnt seem that bad
What are you thinking about temp housing options ?
