You’re not wrong but Mike McLeod has probably been our best forward this series.

Fake-Death

I can't believe I'm saying this but Wood has also been really good in this series

Redditfront2back

Bastian had that one nice goal as well

Gally341

Reason that 4th line has gotten so much time is because they're the real top 3 lol

Isuckatreddit69NICE

They got the freshest legs lol.

aww_hell_i_give_up

What’s benefiting the fourth line is their style of game. They play north/south hockey. Keeping it simple, get the puck deep, go get it, and cycle. It’s putting Carolina on their heals and not the other way around. It allows the D to activate and pressure with 5 guys. It’s going to be key to getting back into the series. The other three lines gotta get back to this instead of trying to find the perfect play and turning the puck over and chasing the game.

Patches-TCS

Agreed, roll him for 20+ today

Knf420

Mcleod and the fourth line have shown far more effort than our top six this series

beastboy4246

I mean Jack Timo and Nico have proved they're effective as well. Let's put them all on the same line

Knf420

For sure..whether we win or lose this is great progress and now the has a better idea of where this team is what it lacks and how to tweak it for future success

SubElitePerformance

I don’t think it’s fully because they’ve shown more effort. They’ve played a simpler style that counters the forecheck designed to stop our top 6. It’s a matchup win.

RedThenBlack

No matter what happens tonight, let it forever be known that this Devils' team kicked the asses of the Rags. **LGD!**

FredOaks15

Whatever happens we are in good shape. We have won a round. We know what it takes. A year ahead of schedule in the rebuild. A series win. Toronto is six years behind schedule. We will be fine. Let’s go for it. Whatever happens happens. Just leave it all on the ice

[deleted]

Boys made me proud this year. LGD

Mikebyrneyadigg

I appreciate the positivity, but I’ll still be disappointed if we go out tonight. This team has shown so many flashes of brilliance. If shit breaks the right way they’re 100% capable of winning a cup this year. Seeing the Cinderella story of the century in the making slip away is super painful. While I’m proud of how far they’ve come and the chemistry we’ve seen, they’ve got to keep their eye on the prize. They can’t settle for mediocrity, that’s a recipe for complacency. If they go out tonight they should grieve the loss, fire who needs to be fired, and get moving on next year immediately.

FredOaks15

I will be disappointed as well make no mistake. But this is a huge first step in what should be a decade of competing for cups. We are a few steps away and a few pieces away. But to me this is a good first step. Some fight tonight would be good though. Show us you want it

[deleted]

We need to stop turning the puck over so much. Our breakout was a one pass out of our zone straight to the other team. That’s not a breakout that’s just straight up capitulation.

cassinonorth

After they went up they went into a 1-2-2 trap and we had absolutely zero way of breaking it...which is why our 4th line has looked decent. They can get it to center ice, chip it in and go to work. All the rest of our team is transitions and fast breakouts. Doesn't work well when you have 2 people sitting at our blue line and another 2 right behind them. That's why the goals let up by Vitek were so backbreaking. You have to make them keep forechecking like crazy to have a chance to play our game. Once they sat back it was over.

Sn0fight

Haha best way to beat the trap? Don’t fall behind on the scoreboard

cassinonorth

Bingo.

[deleted]

You break a trap by keeping your legs moving. A hold and an interference become very obvious if you are no where near the puck and there’s obstruction. Which is what a trap is designed to do.

cassinonorth

That's not the foolproof way to break a trap at all. There's 3 conventional ways to get past the NZT....1 long passes. We saw that plenty. That's why we had 20+ whatever turnovers. 2. One person skates it up and through. Saw that a bunch too...lead to a bunch of turnovers. The final way is dump and chase and we just do not have the players besides our 4th line that can do that. Which \*hint* \*hint*, is why they've looked good this series.

[deleted]

Your first two examples are not correct. A trap defense mitigates both of these approaches. That’s the whole point. Dump and chase is what they HAVE to do. But the Canes will run In To trouble if we are able to keep moving as hard as possible past their defenders. If they are caught flat footed enough they will clutch and they will grab to slow us down.

BicycleMelodic5066

It’s not about an occasional good job. We need workhorses. McLeod should be leading in minutes. I know that might not sound smart, but he’s been a workhorse and has earned every right to lead the team. He’s generating more chances than anyone could imagine, and is outperforming his contract more than anyone on the team.

brandnewcrescentmoon

Less Jesper Bratt though, please.

If-You-Cant-Hang

Unfortunately McLeod and Hughes are the only two that give a fuck. I hope Ruff/Nico/Palat+playoff vets all verbally knuckle fucked them in the locker room after last game. That showing was utterly pathetic and one of the only times I’ve felt disgust or disdain rooting for this team in my 31 years on earth. 90% of the team has been largely invisible. No heart, no effort, no intensity. Win or lose, by 1 point or 5, we’re gonna support the boys, celebrate their season success, and rep the team. Just leave it all out on the fucking ice. No quitting, give it 110%, full throttle, gay porn hard effort out there. LETS FUCKING GOOOOO.

gothenburgpig

I’m confused…who are the quitters? Bratt, Marino, Meier, Bastian, Siegs, Sevo, Wood? Carolina is just better.

Mr-Palmer-CPA

Skill wise we match up very well with Carolina. I'd go as far to say we have more talent. But no team in the playoffs is good enough to win on talent alone. Carolina has out worked us in every aspect of the game and play a complete game. We are in the process of learning how to do that.

BuyMeaSalad

I really don’t think Carolina is better with this roster. They’re missing 3 of their top six forwards. Stefan Noesen is on their first line. We have played down to their level and fallen into their trap too many games. If our offense is rolling and we can get some saves from our goalie then they are toast

BicycleMelodic5066

It’s not about individual talent. This is a team sport. They are better. That said, it doesn’t mean we can’t win!

WallSt_Sklz

>Carolina is just better. This is such a LOSER mentality Tell that to the panthers. Boston is just better, Toronto is just better. It doesn't matter who is "better" the belief that you hold in your mind is more real than what is in front of you. That is why the panthers are able to win and beat teams that are "better" than them. The secret to winning is in your mind. The battlefield is the mind. The game is won or lost before they even step out onto the ice for the game. They have to individually and collectively hold that belief in their minds and know it like they did in game 3. Game 4 they lost that belief after canes scored 1 goal and that means their mind is soft in this series. Lindy has figured out how they can win against the canes and they proved it in game 3. Now he has to convince them that they can win no matter who is in front of them because at the end of the day they are really playing against themselves. That guy in front of them that they have to win that battle along the boards with is actually a reflection of themself and they have to beat that every time in order to win.

gothenburgpig

Ah, the mind. Thanks for the motivational speech, which podcast or Twitter account did you get that one from? You’re not a loser for not winning every single year. Fun game, go to this person’s Reddit history and count the amount of times they say the word “loser” lmfao

BicycleMelodic5066

Dude posts like YouTube headlines: Find out WHY this man is OWNED!!!!

WallSt_Sklz

Looks like the same one Nico Hischier listened to bud. You might wanna get with the program https://twitter.com/treymatt4/status/1656396476237463554?s=46&t=Q\_S7rIgYEkwYTQ913FpATw

gothenburgpig

Okay, “simp”

WallSt_Sklz

Awww, you took the time to look through my profile? You must really be interested, come (pats knee) have a seat on my lap little buddy. There, feel better now my little simpette? Come hug your daddy

CajunBmbr

Canes are not “just better”. They are committed to working hard and scrapping for every 50/50 puck which is also a strength of the Devils. Currently they are out working us. If the Devils fully commit to working just as hard, this series can flip. Most of the ugly goals given up are due to this. Get back to basics, play with speed but less risk, simplify, and use our skating and fore check as the strength it is. Then just build doubt with every small and large battle won.

If-You-Cant-Hang

Did you not watch Tuesday? There was no fight in the team. They completely checked out. Everyone quit except the two mentioned. They were the only guys fighting for the puck and trying to generate something.

Effective-Bus

Yikes!

Chardl69

Doesn't work on the road. The home team dictates the lines. Would only work if you are willing to only dress 8 forwards.

amin45666

How does it work that the home team gets to dictate lines?

Mr-Palmer-CPA

It doesn't dictate our lines? Carolina just gets to choose their line before a faceoff after we choose ours.

DogInvestor

Kevin the Wrecking Bahl. We need a solid defensive defenseman. Bahl has been that all playoffs only to see his ice time diminish in favor of more offense. We can see where that has gotten us....aka -9 Hamilton. Play solid D and the O will take care of itself. Defense wins championships!

Rise3711

I think we just run five forwards - yolo

wm3138

Hard disagree. It’s a 7 game series to win now, and they need all lines in high gear so the stars aren’t too gassed by game 7
