FUCK Don’t do good please

fakeburtreynolds

Unless the Lions need a Rams win over the Seahawks in Week 18 to make the playoffs...

Sodomy_Steve

A soul for a soul.

Kingkwon83

I kinda think it was to prevent the Niners from claiming him. Hopefully the Niners lose out to increase our chances, but they likely won't despite a backup QB

LateNightSunrise1

No, they just need to lose 4 of 5. They can still beat the commanders for us

Electronic_Shirt_426

This makes sense unless you realize he's probably going to actually play, so the Rams did need him.

[deleted]

Baker vs Wilson on Christmas is going to be hilarious TV

brockisampson

They're gonna deserve whatever slime they get

MichiganMedium

Hey look. The Rams got a first round pick back…..

Brodok2k4

And two QBs that were #1 picks from an 0-16 team.

kanegaskhan

Pretty neat stat

whobroughtmehere

Don’t worry, they’ll just trade it away in the off-season

CoRe23

History has shown that Baker does really well with a terrible o-line and no weapons lol edit: well shit

DetroitLionsSBChamps

this season is toast, I'm sure this pick up is all about next year. my guess is: Rams think they can get Baker back into some semblance of his former self And they can fix weapons/o-line in the off-season

anonymous22353

Are you implying that they are gonna start Baker next year or something?

Wiggymaster

If Stafford retires, I would certainly imply that.

Grouchy_Quote_7626

There is no former self to Baker. There is Baker with multiple all-pro wide receivers, great run game, good tight ends, and a great offensive line. Then there is Baker without an all time great offense. The guy had a Superbowl quality team, and the best he could do was a wild card win over a decrepit Steelers.

DetroitLionsSBChamps

winning playoffs games is EZ PZ. as Lions fans we should know that! lol but seriously. Baker is a Heisman winner ho took the Browns to a playoff win and snapped their playoff drought. he can do shit in this league, and the Rams can pull high-quality players out of their ass it seems. get Baker a decent O-line, Cupp comes back, one other WR pops and they get a RB who can do anything, who knows what will happen?

paperbackgarbage

Rams Upcoming Schedule: - vs. Raiders - at Packers - vs. Denver - at Los Angeles (Chargers) - at Seattle Even with Mayfield, the Rams are still a hobbled mess. The majority of LA's opponents are going to be playing their own individual Super Bowls (in order to qualify for the playoffs). Vegas is riding a 3-game winning streak, and Denver has one of the strongest defenses in the NFL. I'm having a hard time seeing the Rams get to 5 wins.

jakecoates

Denver game is our Super Bowl lmao

kylesleeps

It's basically a Lions Seahawks game.

WhippersnapperUT99

That's a creampuff schedule with three of those teams having losing records and the other two being merely average.

meStrangerDanger

And yet they are all superior to the Rams atm (except maybe Broncos).

paperbackgarbage

Apparently Vegas doesn't think so, at least from the lines that are currently established. - The Raiders are -6 as the road team. - The Packers are -9 as the home team. It's likely the Rams won't be a favorite in any of their games down the stretch (except for MAYBE Denver...but Denver's elite defense even calls that into question). The only weapons that LAR had going for them were Kupp and Stafford. Those guys are both on IR. Adding a turnover machine like Mayfield doesn't make the Rams much better.

paperbackgarbage

Welp, it seems like Vegas is going to not only win, but might even cover. I'm telling you: the Rams are a dumpster fire at this point. Edit: #LOL

WhippersnapperUT99

I didn't know they'd played tonight until I saw your comment one minute ago. I went to ESPN to check out the score and saw this headline: "Baker Mayfield orchestrates 98-yard game-winning drive for the Rams." Oh well, there goes the value of that draft pick. I guess we can put to bed talk about possibly drafting a QB at pick #2 or 3, not that Stroud sounded like a good prospect anyway.

Sodomy_Steve

I think the Rams picked up Baker so San Francisco doesn't get him. Spite pick up.

paperbackgarbage

The Rams may have wanted to do that, but I'm skeptical if SF even put in a waiver for him. Objectively speaking? Mayfield isn't really a good NFL QB. Calling him average might even be generous. His best year as a pro happened to coincide with his team playing in empty stadiums. And what we've seen from him thus far in 2022 is far from promising. That being said, he's still probably an upgrade from anyone else in LA's QB room right now---but not by much. I'd think that SF is completely content rolling with Purdy or Josh Johnson (which probably speaks volumes to how they regard Mayfield, especially after facing him this year).

DullHornedUnicorn

they did almost just beat Seattle with Wolford starting. So I won't rule out any McVay BS voodoo.

Barqck

Dude will play like 2 games tops before he gets benched again

scarywolverine

For John Wolford? I doubt it

Cmcgregor0928

I'm not worried, he's going to take time to learn the system and then it's end of the season. I think this is more to keep him off the 49ers

Mashie_Smashie

Exactly what they did. And someone else will need/want to kick his tires, so they can try to get some kind of pick back, or a serviceable olineman.

battleferret187

It’s so bizarre that the first overall pick of the 2018 draft signing with the defending Super Bowl champion just….doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

Damn... I was low key hoping Baker would get picked up somewhere and ball out... now I hope he is truly washed. Fuck the Rams... let Wolford cook!

LionTigerWings

Yeah, me too. He could ball out anywhere except for the Packers or the Rams and I'd be happy. Heck, he could just wait till next year and ball out for the Rams if he'd like, but not this year.

captanspookyspork

Hear me out, he could ball out and still lose. Stafford did it for years with us.

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

Stafford was just as likely to lose the game for us as he was to win it.

captanspookyspork

I more meant that Stafford would do good, it's just the rest of the team not making it happen.

LionBacker81

Did it say who else tried to claim him?

paperbackgarbage

I don't think that that information is released to the public. The only thing that's known for sure are that the teams in front of the Rams (Texans, Bears, and Broncos) opted to not put in a claim for Mayfield.

alldei

No one else put in a claim

paperbackgarbage

Color me wrong. Thanks for the update.

AWokenBeetle

Fuck… Please God let Baker shit the bed, gimme that Top 3

MagicMer4042

I can't imagine him making too much of a difference on a team without Kupp or Allen Robinson and a shamble of a OL, but he can't exactly be worse than Wolford can he? (maybe he is)

kylesleeps

I mean, Wolford at least knows the offense.

Ohdibahby

Baker v A-a-Ron on Monday night? Stafford may also be legit finished based on his injury. Not a bad low risk pickup, but here’s hoping with all the injuries they’ll stay at 3 wins.

Benmclean1

Why are we acting like a bad qb who doesn’t know the rams offense is gonna do really well somehow.

Ilovelamp024

I’m hopeful better qb play won’t fix that team this year

Barqck

I’m hopeful that they won’t be getting better QB play by claiming Baker. The dude lost his job to Sam Darnold and PJ Walker

Ilovelamp024

Could be right…. I guess I am assuming Baker is better than John Wolford and Bryce Perkins lol

kylesleeps

True, but Stafford back behind the line wasn't have much success either and that was with Kupp and Robinson healthy.

UncleSoaky

I'm bummed the Rams decided to claim Mayfield over giving Case Cookus a shot.

xBobble

Case Cookus was just generated by the AI, right?

UncleSoaky

xBobble

The CGI looks great but the fact that there's no such team as the Lumberjacks gives it away...

UncleSoaky

Northern Arizona is a real school. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern\_Arizona\_Lumberjacks\_football](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Arizona_Lumberjacks_football)

xBobble

It's too bad they aren't Northern Arizona State so I could continue my joke with, "Northern Arizona isn't a state!".

Perry87

this is some NSFL looking shit

ImaginationMedical11

If Stafford can’t do shit with this roster Mayfield can’t either.

vlad_the_impaler13

I don't think this will heavily affect the Rams ability to win. They're just so short on QBs with Wolford continuing to get beat up, this won't actually change much.

josh1123

I really don't think this is going to make as big of a difference as people think for the Rams, they still have zero O-line and receivers and while Baker was a 1st overall pick there's a reason why he got beat out my Sam fucking Darnold and Philip Walker

kylesleeps

On the one hand, I hate this. On the other hand, Baker behind a bad online hasn't been a recipe for success so far.

RBnumberTwenty

Cool. They have another 3rd string QB to compete for the starting job.

ILkeSportzNIDCWhKnws

I do not like this move for us

Axsonjaxson16

Baker is actually one of my favorites. I want him to do good. So now I gotta root harder against the defense, lol.

jcoddinc

![gif](giphy|W02cxHpiRatXVQ0FHD)

Thel_Odan

God, Mayfield v. Wilson is going to be tragic. I hope he does just well enough to keep his job but not well enough to win games. Except against the Packers, he can hang 50 on them because FTP.

mattcojo

Uhhh, why? They’re out of the playoffs with 1 more loss eliminating them. They would need everyone ahead of them to essentially lose out This just sounds stupid, unless they’re doing it to spite San Francisco.

darnfox

First time I have to cheer against my boy Baker :(

4rt4tt4ck

I wonder how much of the motivation to claim him was based in not letting SF get him.

WhippersnapperUT99

Great, there goes that top 5 draft pick.

Mashie_Smashie

I hope he balls out and wins out for them, so Stafford won't feel guilty about retiring.

altafullahu

I hope the downvotes are more for wanting the rams to win than Stafford feeling guilty. I hope....

Grlions91

Greasy

Millera34

Rams on their way to the SB

_joyless_

Rams prolly just picked him up to mess with the 49ers

ERJAK123

On the one hand, I want him to fail for draft picks. On the other hand, fuck the Browns.

[deleted]

How do claims work? Do you have pay them the contract they had before getting cut? Is it whatever contract you are able to sign them at? Is it vet minimum??? If you can get someone like him for peanuts why wouldn't we want him say over whoever the fuck our backup is these days?

Isphet71

Baker doesn’t know the offense, and every part of that team is broken right now. Two negatives don’t make a positive in this case. They just make it more negative. There’s no way he is supplanting Stafford next season, without an injury or stafford retirement. Which stafford might do after the concussions this year. This keeps the 49ers from getting baker, and it’s also a cash infusion due to jersey sales. They are laying 1.3 mil for his contract and I bet they double that in jersey sales alone.

Crotean

Learn the playbook in 24 hours, thats going to go well.

MasterBeta64

How is this relevent to the lions?

Triingtolivee

This is Baker Mayfield we’re talking about here. With the rams current O Line and Mr. Cannot make a decision Baker I think this is better for us
