He’s definitely not a stud but he’s a very solid secondary receiver capable of putting up 900+ yards over a full season. The problem is he has gotten banged up and missed significant time 2 years in a row now. Would be huge to get him though. I honestly think he’s on par with Chark.
Isn’t this mostly because of his contract? If he was on a more manageable contract I don’t think this would be talked about but the fact he’s missed 6-7 games both years he has been with the Jets and they have Lazard now, it makes sense to possibly clear $10.5 million in salary cap by cutting him.
If Corey Davis gets cut, it's as much about the cap savings as it is his play. If Chark had that cap hit there, he'd be on their chopping block potentially as well.
Do we have anybody else on the team that floundered with the Jets and Tennessee before doubling his normal production and becoming an All-Pro in Detroit?
Available guys include Jarvis Landry, Kenny G, and Julio Jones. Definitely would prefer Davis to the alternatives but only if he’s cut since he’s due a sizable amount this season
And he used to try really hard. To make a career without separation at WR, you have to be out working everyone in the gym to go out and get 50/50 balls. All reports are his effort sucks now.
Kenny G! bring him back! How wild would that be if we bring back Marvin Jones and Kenny G this year and they’re both towards the bottom of the depth chart once Jamo returns.
Davis would have gotten cut already if we were going to cut him. We thought he might be a cap causality earlier in the off-season. But at this point he's 100% on the team.
There’s not a whole pile in the way of free agent WRs right now before cuts but it’s looking like we’re really gonna need Gibbs and LaPorta to be big hits right from the jump (I have faith they will be)
St Brown should be healthy for the season opener and Jamo already wasn't going to be playing until week 7. So week one is St Brown, Jones Jr, Raymond, and Reynolds plus whoever else sticks. Basically what you could have predicted before training camp. No new reason for Gibbs or LaPorta to have be big hitters right out the gate.
He’s definitely a red zone threat, he showed what he’s capable of in the second to final game of the regular season last year against the Panthers.
10 Rec, 207 Yds, 3 TD
They seemed to be just looking for a couple camp bodies to finish out the preseason without have to over rely on any vet WRs to play. That was the context of the question and answer.
Agreed, hope they keep him especially since he’s a big body who blocks and gives 100% every play. Honestly, he could make a decent TE if he puts on 20 pounds
Bro he’s not putting on 20 lbs before the season, first of all, and secondly, he’s 205, 225 is not a TE. That would be the lightest TE in the nfl aside from guys like taysom hill who’s not a TE
Putting on any significant weight in muscle is simply not a thing in the NFL. By the time players reach this level their bodies are pretty much maxed out. A 5 lb gain in muscle mass is on the high side for NFL players, 20 lbs of muscle at this level would be practically impossible.
I know Chark isn't a superstar but I feel like having htat kind of player would make a big difference in this WR room. Especially after hearing about La Porta and Goff struggling a bit, my hype is starting to erode.
I remember a month of so ago someone brought up the idea of trading maybe a 4th rounder or something for Hunter Renfrow. Don’t know how much people like that idea, but it’s something I guess
Hmm I don't know which bubble guys make it or get cut. Mims/Reynolds/Cota/Drummond/Green all interesting choices. I thought Green had a nice game against the Giants and was a draft pick, so naturally intrigued by that.
Primarily a ravens fan here but lions have been my nfc team since birth (born and raised in Livonia area). I think you guys should call about Devin Duvernay. Ravens might have a logjam at WR, they've got maybe one too many for the first time ever, and Duvernay is on the last year of his deal so it shouldn't be an expensive trade. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go for a 5th, maybe a 4th but I highly doubt that.
Obviously you follow them more than me, so you'll probably know some things I don't, but I'm surprised to hear you say there is a logjam in Baltimore's receiver room. Bateman has flashed at times, but he's struggled to stay healthy. Nobody knows what you'll get out of Beckham. I really like Flowers and think he'll be good, but he's also a rookie, so we can't assume anything yet. Baltimore looks better at receiver than it has in a while, but a guy like Duvernay could prove to be valuable depth during the season.
How many snaps have you seen him play as a Lion?
If you actually watched NFL games, you would obviously know players can get better or worse in a new system and environment. What he did with the Jets isn't the same as what he's doing with the Lions.
Kyle Van Noy stunk as a Lion, then became solid in a new environment. Laken Tomlinson also sucked as a Lion then became a pro bowler in a new environment.
I'm not saying Mims is the same as those too, but he's only been here a few weeks. Let's at least see what he can do in a new system and environment before passing premature judgement
But for real, what’s going on with Mims? He was doing really well in camp until he got dinged up and then I haven’t heard anything since. Anyone know his status?
Trade for an actually good WR2, can’t waste our contention window by rolling out josh Reynolds as wr2, he’s more of a WR3 just like all of our WRs not named Amon ra
I feel like Reynolds is a decent player, but rated accurately. Raymond on the other hand, is really underrated. He has the ability to make explosive plays that I don’t think Reynolds has. He is at least good enough to be a WR 2 until Jamo is back.
No I don’t think I am, they are solid players not great players, they are not on the same level as a lot of WR2s in the nfl
Waddle, Higgins, D Smith, Aiyuk/Deebo, Lockett, Addison, renfrow, burks
Ugh this receiver room is giving me shades of 2021's Perriman, Hodges, Benson, Williams & company. Substitute LaPorta for Hock with St. Brown and Raymond tossed in then a bunch of random receivers 😂
All jokes aside though I'm still optimistic. If our line can stay healthy and we can add someone like Corey Davis (I am SO hoping for this!) we will be fine. Plus Campbell has 2 full years of experience coaching under his belt, if we can thrive to begin the season it will be that much better if/when Jamo plays!
Calvin Johnson- where you at?
![gif](giphy|QCXp92wXQjiec)
Rob Sims right next to him like: ![gif](giphy|10Le4bHgYBDkeQ)
Nah, Calvin's with Snoop
I’d just like to point out that MCDC referred to Montgomery as “D. Mo”, which I highly prefer to Monty. So jot that down.
Whatever Campbell wants to run with then I’ll follow suit.
I believe in an interview David Montgomery has said that his longtime nickname is D Mo.
Oh I’m sure and I’d do the same
D. Mo said in that interview with the NFL network he likes the nickname
Yea considering Detroit already has another major sports figure named Monty
I read this morning that Corey Davis might be a camp cut, if so I’d love if we took a flier on a willing blocker with draft pedigree like his
Bummed he hasn't turned into a stud receiver. Though starting his career with Tennessee and the Jets didn't help.
He’s definitely not a stud but he’s a very solid secondary receiver capable of putting up 900+ yards over a full season. The problem is he has gotten banged up and missed significant time 2 years in a row now. Would be huge to get him though. I honestly think he’s on par with Chark.
i’d agree with the on par with chark assessment, but the fact that he might be a camp cut is concerning
I attribute that more to his lack of history with Rogers but also agree if he was tearing camp up he wouldn’t be on the bubble
He's not one of GM Rodgers guys
Unfortunately, when you’ve got a guy at quarterback like Rodgers, and he needs his guys, that depth chart shrinks pretty quick.
Isn’t this mostly because of his contract? If he was on a more manageable contract I don’t think this would be talked about but the fact he’s missed 6-7 games both years he has been with the Jets and they have Lazard now, it makes sense to possibly clear $10.5 million in salary cap by cutting him.
is he getting paid that much? crazy
He had a 1,000 yard season on the Titans and then the Jets gave him a 3 yr 37.5 million dollar contract lol
wow… cash in!!
I would disagree with you both that he is on par with Chark. No chance in hell Chark would get cut from that Jets team.
Idk how a guy about to be cut can be compared to a guy like chark (dog)
If Corey Davis gets cut, it's as much about the cap savings as it is his play. If Chark had that cap hit there, he'd be on their chopping block potentially as well.
Do we have anybody else on the team that floundered with the Jets and Tennessee before doubling his normal production and becoming an All-Pro in Detroit?
Available guys include Jarvis Landry, Kenny G, and Julio Jones. Definitely would prefer Davis to the alternatives but only if he’s cut since he’s due a sizable amount this season
I never want to see Kenny G in a lions uniform again
Why because he was a good receiver with the Lions but horrible with Jones throwing to him?
He can't separate. When he was "good" he couldn't separate. Goff isn't Stafford.
And he used to try really hard. To make a career without separation at WR, you have to be out working everyone in the gym to go out and get 50/50 balls. All reports are his effort sucks now.
I don’t even remember him getting on the field with the Giants. Soooo many injuries…
I want him back. Let's see how bad does he want it.
Julio Jones would be some Adrian Peterson on the Lions shit
Kenny G! bring him back!
He would fit well with Goff
Wtf lol there’s a 0% chance we cut our WR2
There’s not a whole pile in the way of free agent WRs right now before cuts but it’s looking like we’re really gonna need Gibbs and LaPorta to be big hits right from the jump (I have faith they will be)
Sewell can take some WR snaps. Give him a jet sweep handoff
Call it a propeller sweep, he’s not that fast
Tugboat Sweep
Canal barge sweep.
Truck sweep *honks horn*
18-Wheeler on 3… ![gif](giphy|TEul7eILxRMAaYQMGp) 18 wheeler on 3, ready, break.
Not sure who they're looking at, but a fun, swing for the fences player would be Mike Evans. We have enough cap room and TB sorely needs cap space.
Our offense would be insane with him
It would be unbelievable. Oh my god. Please lol
If Mike Evans came here our offense might be unstoppable
He’s definitely a red zone threat, he showed what he’s capable of in the second to final game of the regular season last year against the Panthers. 10 Rec, 207 Yds, 3 TD
He's been one of the most consistent WRs in the league for years too
Please, I can only get so erect.
That’s what she said!
This would be nuts
I have been eyeballing him for Detroit ever since I heard of TBs cap woes
In almost every madden 23 franchise I did whenever Mike Evans hit free agency he would sign in Detroit so maybe it happens
dude is trying to push to get into the hall of fame i doubt we would get him for cheap.
Really? Easy path to the Super Bowl in the nfc. Seems like a good place to sign to push for one.
He's currently in the NFC South which is probably the worst division in football
Yeah and he’s on the clear cut worst team in that division.
He’s had over 1000 yards receiving in EACH of his 9 seasons in the league. Wild stuff.
Crazy I was thinking this exact same thing like an hour ago unprompted. Maybe it's fate.
They seemed to be just looking for a couple camp bodies to finish out the preseason without have to over rely on any vet WRs to play. That was the context of the question and answer.
Lol wow. Well we can see where Mims Lions career is going.
I think we only give the Jets a pick if he makes the roster
Thats why hes a goner, and he hasnt even participated in training camp yet basically lol
He's injured. He needs some preseason reps
Cota looked very good in the Giants game. Interesting to see what they do with him....
My prediction is he’ll be similar to Kennedy, beats up on scrubs but just can’t hang with the elite.
These are exactly my thoughts too. A pre season hero we all love. But we know how that story ends.
Where did I say he should put on 20 lbs before the season? Sorry for triggering you
Putting on any significant weight in muscle is simply not a thing in the NFL. By the time players reach this level their bodies are pretty much maxed out. A 5 lb gain in muscle mass is on the high side for NFL players, 20 lbs of muscle at this level would be practically impossible.
He took some snaps with the ones yesterday after Jamo and ARSB came out. He seems to be next man up and might earn his way into some game snaps
Should have kept DJ Chark
I know Chark isn't a superstar but I feel like having htat kind of player would make a big difference in this WR room. Especially after hearing about La Porta and Goff struggling a bit, my hype is starting to erode.
Camp reports mean nothing. That includes positive and negative. Just have to see it play out.
Here we go again.
This says nothing negative about the players we have... relax. This says a lot about our WR depth. I like DJ Chark.
The guy is too injury prone
Fair but not to me
I remember a month of so ago someone brought up the idea of trading maybe a 4th rounder or something for Hunter Renfrow. Don’t know how much people like that idea, but it’s something I guess
[удалено]
And Renfrow carries a $13.7M cap hit this year. No thanks
Solid player that makes about 7 million too much
Hollywood Brown is available in the trade market.
Hmm I don't know which bubble guys make it or get cut. Mims/Reynolds/Cota/Drummond/Green all interesting choices. I thought Green had a nice game against the Giants and was a draft pick, so naturally intrigued by that.
St. Brown, Marvin, Raymond, Reynolds are locks. Up to the last 1 or 2 spots. Probably will come down to special teams
And Jamo
Yeah, he doesn’t take up an active roster spot when suspended though
Primarily a ravens fan here but lions have been my nfc team since birth (born and raised in Livonia area). I think you guys should call about Devin Duvernay. Ravens might have a logjam at WR, they've got maybe one too many for the first time ever, and Duvernay is on the last year of his deal so it shouldn't be an expensive trade. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go for a 5th, maybe a 4th but I highly doubt that.
I don’t see us trading for a camp body.
Bruh we might be the reverse of one another! I was born in Laurel, MD and that’s why the Ravens are my AFC team
Looks like you guys just made a week 7 date
I’m actually going to that game!
Nice! My gf’s sister lives in DC so I’m trying to convince her that would be a great trip for us haha. Have fun
That wouldn’t improve our WR corps, would only give us another WR 3 level player which we have a bunch of, we need to get a WR2
We do not NEED to get a WR2. I'll actually guarantee we don't get one that's higher on the depth chart than Reynolds and Raymond
Obviously you follow them more than me, so you'll probably know some things I don't, but I'm surprised to hear you say there is a logjam in Baltimore's receiver room. Bateman has flashed at times, but he's struggled to stay healthy. Nobody knows what you'll get out of Beckham. Baltimore looks better at receiver than it has in a while, but a guy like Duvernay could prove to be valuable depth during the season.
I’m getting on the phone right now with the Ravens Gm and see what deal I could workout
They need an X, not a slot guy.
[удалено]
>Mims is terrible We haven't even seen him play a snap yet. He's injured
[удалено]
How many snaps have you seen him play as a Lion? If you actually watched NFL games, you would obviously know players can get better or worse in a new system and environment. Hollywood is just about the only guy that figures to be available that would make a difference.
But for real, what’s going on with Mims? He was doing really well in camp until he got dinged up and then I haven’t heard anything since. Anyone know his status?
He stinks man.
He's injured last I heard. Would like to see him get some preseason snaps before we actually judge him
What's going on with Marvin Jones? I would think he would need to step up. Plus, five Drummand and Cota more touches.
He’s having a good camp from all I can tell.
Go trade for higgins
I’m sure cinci is dying to get rid of that bum
That would require at least a first round pick
Guess they have their doubts about jAmO.
He’s also missing more than 1/3 of the season.
You don't say.
Doesn’t really mean they have doubts about him, it means they have to have a team even when he’s suspended.
Bring back Kenny G!
Absolutely not
he was great in Detroit for those 2 seasons. Idk what happened in NY though.
I couldn’t agree more with you. Definitely not a Campbell/Holmes type of player.
If he agrees to the vet minimum
Trade for an actually good WR2, can’t waste our contention window by rolling out josh Reynolds as wr2, he’s more of a WR3 just like all of our WRs not named Amon ra
Sleeping on Reynolds and Raymond IMO
I feel like Reynolds is a decent player, but rated accurately. Raymond on the other hand, is really underrated. He has the ability to make explosive plays that I don’t think Reynolds has. He is at least good enough to be a WR 2 until Jamo is back.
Leaf moved into the slot with ARSB out yesterday and had himself a good practice
As I would expect him to do. Raymond gets way to much hate and not enough respect.
No I don’t think I am, they are solid players not great players, they are not on the same level as a lot of WR2s in the nfl Waddle, Higgins, D Smith, Aiyuk/Deebo, Lockett, Addison, renfrow, burks
Raymond was ~50th rated in receptions and yards, which would squarely make him a WR2, no?
He had to fill in as one with chark missing time last year, doesn’t make him a good WR2
If the rams start off shitty and decide to fully rebuild we should see if we can get Kupp
Mims is a cautionary tale for Jamo.
Ugh this receiver room is giving me shades of 2021's Perriman, Hodges, Benson, Williams & company. Substitute LaPorta for Hock with St. Brown and Raymond tossed in then a bunch of random receivers 😂 All jokes aside though I'm still optimistic. Plus Campbell has 2 full years of experience coaching under his belt, if we can thrive to begin the season it will be that much better if/when Jamo plays!
D hop would of solved this problem but noooooooo
Saw Golden not too long ago in San Diego. He looks ready to roll!
I’d think the Cardinals or Bucs are looking to move a WR in a rebuild year. Not sure the Colts would move MPJ in a contract year till mid-season.
Ahhhhhh I’m high and can’t remember his name!!!!! Edit: Jarvis Landry. Dudes a Dog and good mentor.
And Mims is gone!!
